Noisiest Hotel I have ever been in, at any time of the day. I completely understand when it's the guests making noise, it happens. But this is the staff making noise the entire day. If you feel like sleeping in or anything, think again. Once one house keeper knocks you away, you politely ask not to have housekeeping today, only to be knocked awake by another one. And afternoon naps? Think again. They have construction going on on my floor. My question was obviously why did they make my room available to book if there was going to be construction. But they don't seem to care. They just let it go on. This hotel does not make its guests feel special. I would not recommend

Work on the following:
1. Hotel and internet photos are not the same.
2. Bath tub could not be closed to fill with water and I had to get maintenance to fix it.
3. Room not looking as advertised. Very noisy Saturday nights.
4. Ate a soup starter at the restaurant. It promised croutons and crispy bacon bits inside, instead like the internet photos I got bread pieces and bacon strips that is just cooked.

This hotel has a weird mix of 80's and modern, african-asian-colonial...the service was good when we checked in at almost midnight. The space is large, with bedroom, bathroom, kitchenette and lounge, with an outside patio that overlooked an urban courtyard of water features. The biggest let down was how dirty this hotel was for this reason alone I wouldn't return to this hotel. Please jik the tiles throughout the hotel, and esp in the bathrooms, the black mould is dreadful!

Definitely the worst stay ever. Room (which was supposed to be non-smoking) reeked of cigarette smoke upon entry and throughout our stay; it was spacious but dusty and unclean. Most unprofessional staff, who shout at the top of their voices from 6am - good luck getting any sleep. Breakfast is subpar. So much potential but definitely not worth it.

This place has gone from great to average in the last 9 months. Can easily be improved upon.
Cons:
There was very limited hot water available for two people to shower one after the other (in winter!)
The internet voucher codes provided did not work at all no matter what we tried. We ended up using our mobile data only.
There were no two pin plugs provided, we had to call reception for this.
No hand towels were provided, we had to call for these too.
Only 3 tissues were in the tissue box so cleaning staff basically reused a previous guest s box for us.
No dishwashing aids (soap/sponge) were provided.
Only mugs were provided, no drinking glasses were available.
After house cleaning refreshed the room on the second day, they refolded our used bath towels and did not provide fresh ones.
The fridge was off, and a staff member came to assess the issue which turned out to be a tripped switch.
The television facilities are dated and way behind what places like Sun International offer.

Pros:
Staff are very friendly and respond to requests promptly.
The layout and furnishings in the executive suite king are very warm and homely.
Air-conditioning/room temperature was spot on and not underpowered at all.
There's enough storage for clothing, food and personal items throughout the room.
Bathrooms are clean and well provided for. (Hairdryer and GHD hair straightener wall mounted)
Beds are comfortable and you could shut out daylight completely if you wanted to.
It's situated close to everything you'd need, so driving isn't essential.

Nice hotel especially for a family with kids. No Swimming pool, milk and sugar in the rooms they put enough for 2 people only even though we were in a family room. Did not replace soap bar with the cleaning. I must say their Guest service was responsive when you request extra supplies

This hotel is FILTHY and DISGUSTING. It is infested with cockroaches, and the carpets have never been cleaned. The carpets are sticky and yucky. (please keep your shoes on). We were moved after complaining, from a two bedroom apartment on the 4th floor, infested with cockroaches, to a two bedroom apartment on the 2nd floor with cockroaches. We didn't even stay for the full booking. Stay away from this hotel. Worst holiday ever.

This hotel is rated 4 stars and is marketed that way. As with all things you pay a premium price for, you expect a certain minimum standard. It all looks pretty on the surface, at a fleeting glance, but then you pick up a little something and then you start to pay attention. At the outset, we didn't get the room type we asked for. That was resolved. The sofa was stained. It looked like bodily fluids in my opinion. There was no directory of services or a room service menu. The shower drain didn't flow properly, so we were in standing water for the stay. They tried to fix it. It didn't work. Not very hygienic. The walls had streaks on it, in the bathroom, like wet towels slammed against the wall and the resultant droplets rolling down. There was a similar effect on the elevator doors. Breakfast buffets should look presentable at all times until the window closes. The TV channels were very fuzzy. I had to switch the TV off. Exiting the parking each time was a hassle as the ticket only worked on entry. I just wasn't that comfortable with my stay here. I hope they pay some attention to detail going forward.

Good experience however the toilet was smelly. There was a constant smell coming out of the toilet, unsure as to whether the water was recycled but it was a really bad smell!

Faulty charging points in the room

We had the most wonderful experience. Really value for money. We stayed in the Executive Suite with 2 rooms. Beautiful spacious rooms with beautiful decor. What was so wonderful was even with all the electricity outages in Durban we didn't even realized that there were outages until you step out of the hotel. They have generators running during those times and we did not even hear it. The breakfast was wonderful with amazing coffee. Staff was friendly and made as feel at home. Shopping Mall just over the road with all the restaurants. We will definitively stay there again and recommend this hotel to friends. Again thank you for making our trip to Durban an unforgettable experience.

Lovely Hotel situated in the heart of Gateway Shopping District. Walk away from Gateway Mall & other entertainment places. Musallah (Prayer Rooms) is also just accross the hotel. Parking for the Hotel can be accessed from Aurora Drive & it is free. Just hand ticket to reception when checking in & they will activate the free parking coupon.

Room was just outstanding. Much bigger than other hotels in the area. Executive Suites comes with Small Kitchen, Lounge Area, Balcony & Ensuite Bathroom.

I really enjoyed my stay at the Royal Palm Hotel & will definitely recommend it to my friends & family.

Thank You for your hospitality. Will see you guys soon.

I generally stay at the Royal Palm Hotel when traveling to KZN on business. This time around I had no water to shower, the water from the taps and shower head was trickling out for 2 days (resulting in not being able to shower at the hotel). There was hair in my towels. The aircon took forever to startup (I gave it a reasonable amount of time before assuming it probably needs to be serviced or cleaned). The interface on the tv is extremely slow (one would get frustrated trying to browse channels). I hope for future guests the Royal Palm Hotel invests in proper ironing boards and irons as well! The ironing board I was given was quite flimsy and kept on falling over (someone could potentially get hurt while ironing).

Spent a lovely birthday weekend here with my hubby. The room is very well lit and with a modern feel. It's very spacious. Well equipt to combat the load shedding. The staff are friendly and ready to assist. We had room service for our first night and it was served with no fuss. A card machine was even provided so we didn't have to wait to pay till check out. The rooms are clean and neat. It is good that the hotel is situated right across from gateway making it very convenient if you need to grab something quickly or for a quick dinner. The breakfast at the Thyme restaurant was nice on the Sunday. There was quiet a lovely selection however I forgot to get any pics. On the Monday, the vegetarian options were extremely limited. Like I mean there was like nothing appetizing for a vegetarian. In this day and age with vegans growing in popularity I think the hotel should adapt its menu accordingly. Also we live in South Africa, this is a rainbow nation. I'm pretty sure most people know the most Hindus fast on Mondays and Tuesdays. Some nicer vegetarian options would have been amazing. It was a lovely stay all in all.
