Rosamond Gifford Zoo Review

Compared to Rochester and buffalo zoos the habitats here are much better. Very nice.

Awesome Zoo that really takes care of their animals!

Took my granddaughter to the Zoo on a cold February Day. It was cold and windy but we had a great time and enjoyed the howling wolves and the tiger rooming in the snow-covered thicket. Will definitely be back when it warms up and other animals are wondering. Would highly recommend a safe visit, which they do provide.

We had a great time. We just think that the Lion doesn't have a fair amount of space comparing to the Asian goats

The zoo itself is fantastic the staff and animals are very friendly and social and the exhibits are nice without being to over crowed to see the animals that being said their affiliated company the jungle cafe located inside the main building is disgusting between the lack of cleaning both in and out of the kitchen and the quality of the food being a down right joke I'd sooner eat my leftovers from 2-3days ago off my bathroom floor than eat there again.

Good zoo, though a bit small. The real perk is that it is open most days, especially when many of the other local attractions are closed. Kids enjoyed watching the elephants and monkeys.

We always have a great time at the Syracuse zoo. A variety of animals and things to do.
Veterans discount is amazing when you have a family of 6. So we always try to donate or buy from the store while we are there to support the zoo

It was a great zoo very clean, everywhere animals where clear & were taken very good care of. We were there little over 2 hours but 3 hours would been better.

Since it was the Zoo Boo, I was surprised at how many exhibits were closed.

Offers military discount. Kept pretty clean. Fun for the kids with lots of walking. Interactive exhibits. Closes around 5pm.

Very disappointing closed at 430 and very little to see! Souviniers were very expensive!

Fun family place for kids. Even when your kids range from 17 to 22.

Would like to see more animals brought in. Have taken my kids here a lot in the last couple years. They love it.

The Rosamond Gifford Zoo is a wonderful conservation success story. The Amur leopard cubs are just part of the story. Together with their parents they represent more than 1% of the entire world population of this critically endangered species. Come check out the cubs and all the other conservation successes at the zoo as we try and keep the wild wild.

This Zoo is just adorable all around, baby elephant, red pandas, there s something for everyone in your family and it s a great time. They have mist machines for those hot summer days which is a life saver sometimes.

Not thrilled with the size of many of the habitats but the aquatics department is really great & you can tell that the staff really care & put in a lot of effort.

This is such a nice zoo! So many exhibits for such a great price! The only disappointing thing is that we went on a really hot day in August and almost all of the snack and ice cream shops were closed. It was near the end of the summer, so it may have just been a staffing issue. Overall a great place with a nice variety of healthy animals to enjoy. We also really liked the gem mining and dinosaur exhibit that was running at the time.

It's a source of so many good memories for me. But why I rate it three stars has to do with the animals. They seem sad and their spaces are so small. The flamingos are pale pink instead of a vibrant color because they don't get enough shrimp, the monkeys just run in circles and I feel as though the animals diets and enclosures aren't up to par.

We love the zoo with a passion! We are members and have adopted both the Red Wolves and the Eurasian Eagle Owl. Wonderful place!!

Much more than we were expecting. Lots of animals and well kept enclosures. We had a great time. We will be back in the summer.

My son had fun but I feel like there is less there to do then their used to be. We saw the whole zoo in like an hour.

This place has really gone downhill. It was the first time in 20 years and I was disappointed. There was a lot of construction and closures, but even the animals didn't seem engaged.

Always PACKED by 11am but very fun. If you don't like huge crowds go early

my hometown zoo and I am a member, they are doing a great job.

This is the nastiest, poorest, most unkept zoo I've ever seen in my life. The animals all looked depressed and poorly cared for. The majority of people that attended the zoo were very ghetto, from hoods to pure trailer trash. I thank God I didn't have to pay to go to this zoo. I would've demanded a refund.

If you want a very below par, uneventful, depressingly bad and pointless trip this summer, then this is definitely the zoo for you.

It was Great,loved the zoo, But I whis that the store sold the stuff animals for less for the children a d family's, some sad fancies when I left the store

Had a great trip labor day weekend and the whole family enjoyed the visit.

Was very disappointed after visiting two parks where the animals seemed happier and better taken care of. Small enclosures for big cats is depressing. Prices werent bad and they do host alot of events, its just is not the place i would visit again with my child. Visit the Wild in Chittenango or Animal Adventure near Binghamton.

I haven't been to the zoo in a long time, was happy to go and to see all the new and old animals.

I had a great time taking my daughter to the zoo for the first time. I think that the zoo will be back to a 5 star zoo once the construction on the elephant enclosure is done, but when we were there, there was a lot of construction sounds, and entire paths were blocked off. With that being said, I cannot wait to go back to the zoo in a few weeks when the weather is warmer and the construction is done. I am sure it will be a 5 star experience!

Grandson loved all the dinosaurs in the exhibit, we had a great visit!

A quiet day to spend with the family. Some parts are blocked off, but still enough is open to enjoy and walk with the family.

Great zoo compared to our local zoo. Been there a handful of times and always have a good time. Can t wait until my son is a little older and can really enjoy it. Worth the trip.

Love this zoo, they have a lot of new babies including patas monkey and red pandas.

Have to call and make an appointment to go now, due to Covid. All the children's interactive exhibits are closed, as is the cave. Still fun, and much less crowded.

There were many animals here, but I feel like it needs more hands on activities for both, children and adults. Maybe a splash pad, or a few pellet & petting stations where you can feed nice animals, would liven it up, but there was lots to see. I like the station where kids can "milk a cow", and the "mining for gold". That past was fun and funny!

My children love the Rosamond Gifford zoo. I am impressed by all of the renovations that have already taken place, and I look forward to seeing what is in store for the future!

Today was my third or fourth visit to the Rosamond Gifford (Syracuse) Zoo. It is generally clean, has a good variety of animals, and I like the layout. It nicer to visit in spring or summer, but we've been in the winter too.

While it's reservation only and the indoor part of the zoo is currently closed (thanks Covid) - it's extra chill right now. Fewer people seems to make the animals a lot less stressed. The Elephant enclosure is huge now, which was a major problem in previous years. Now if some of the bird enclosures we tripled or more in size I'd give it an even higher rating. Great for the kids and looking forward to the whole place reopening in full!

This zoo is set up so nicely. All the indoor stuff is all in one long building. The outdoor part is in a nice circle. The staff is very friendly as well.

A large group went as part of a graduation celebration. It was indeed memorable. We were from 1 yr. to 67 years old and new things were learned by all. A wonderful day in the park.

We were really excited to visit after reading about the zoo and how recommended it was on lists of things to do in Syracuse... but I have to say the visit was extremely disappointing. The overall atmosphere was somewhat depressing, the first thing you see walking in is birds of prey chained by their feet to their outdoor posts. Proceeding through we found most exhibits were subpar at best, and almost every animal seemed extremely stressed or bored. For example, the tiger was pacing back and forth on a single trail, usually a sign of boredom. The tiger exhibit was lacking in many things, and no sight of any animal enrichment. Overall it seemed like a mile long jail...

Great day visit. Animals include farm animals, an aviary, small animals like meerkats, 2 new camels, elephant family and everything in between.

Many of the animals were not out, or the exhibits weren't open. A bit disappointing, but glad to have the opportunity to explore in the face of Covid!
