A must for anyone who loves history, and particularly local history. So many displays and original items with plenty of information. Be sure to stop by the gift shop, too! A lot of great finds there.

It is always worth a visit if you are a history buff or just curious about the way things were or how things got to how they are now. The museum is a great depository of artifacts that are expertly curated to tell a story of one of the continent's most historically significance areas. Because of the vastness of their collection, new exhibits, telling different stories, are often cycled onto display.
Their reference library is filled with locally significant resources that often are not available through online sources. A must visit for those researching their family history or the history of the place they now occupy.
Bring whole family. It is kid friendly for the well behaved and adult intriguing for the knowledge seeking purveyor of time.
We recently attended a "Ghost Walk" in Liverpool sponsored by the OHA, which made us curious about what else the place had to offer, so we stopped by to visit. The Ghost Walk was so much fun: interesting characters from Liverpool History, like Mayor Heid, and a willow basket maker, told us their stories and wove interesting facts into well-performed (and often funny) first person histories. We walked from location to location led by a tour guide. The OHA itself is packed with treasures from Onondaga County history, and has a great gift shop. Evidently they run programs all year long, including a recent Paranormal visit in the building which we missed.
OHA is a must for anyone who lives in central New York! The staff is absolutely wonderful and the museum itself shows so many phenomenal things that you never even thought of. It's a great resource for anyone researching Central New York history. We know that much of our history lies within the Native American population but when you see how Syracuse was built and why it was built and how the surrounding area developed and what it was like in the old days is absolutely wonderful!
Really great museum downtown that I'm ashamed to say I'd never heard of before stumbling across it on a whim. The place is really big and well curated - we spent nearly two hours there and still went pretty quick through a couple exhibits to beat the parking meter. I was really impressed with their collection here and the information available for each piece. I'll definitely go again and recommend it for anyone from the county or just visiting.
