Some of the staff were very cruel. I am glad to have gotten out of there
Normally I wouldn't write a review but this time I feel it was necessary. I called to see about emergency shelter and was placed on hold for about 15 minutes. The call was then disconnected. When I called back I was sent to the general voice mailbox. On my third call I wasn't greeted properly. The operator answered and said we don't have any beds available. So thats lets me know that the this person seen the number I was calling from and first of all hung up the phone when I was on hold. Then choose not to answer me the second time. Thirdly felt I wasn't worthly to be greeted or spoken to respectfully. Very unprofessional and unsympathetic. Just because people need help doesnt mean they should be treated poorly.
The BEST organization to help people get a RESTART back into society.
A think of it as purgatory, just steps away from Dante's inferno and the layers of hellish treatment by liars, besmearchers, thieves... And don't get me started of the lack of professionalism if the staff. Okay, this one anecdote, a black male worker left the dining area before the meal, used the restrooms the either flatulence or having had a b.m. in gloves then opened the door to serve us, ate in those gloves as the 1 person signed tbeir name before dishibg up food for her... Even those of 'questionable intellectual abilities" started yelling until he was removed from the serving line only to reappear five or so minutes later... Oooh! Yuck!
Best option for a homeless shelter. 3 hot meals and plenty of resources. The staff can be overwhelmed, make sure to know your case worker and their schedule. Appointments could be difficult without planning.
It a great place to stay at I have two friends that stay there it's wonderful place when you're trying to get back on your feet they help you with a lot of things in a lot of resources I get it a 5-star rating great scythe great people great place to stay when you need to get back on your feet again check them out on the web page thanks Kansas City
i stayed here for many years and this place is a great place to become responsible and they also give you the tools you need to excel in society good work to all the people that work here even the one that didn't like me.
They really try to help people. It's one of the few places I feel confident donating to.
Obey the rules and regulations and it'll be smooth sailing. Don't talk about others. Keep it to yourself. Handle your business and move on. It's a shelter. Not the Marriott. I was there 1year and a half ago. I thank them. I've been housed for the last year and a half and doing great.
I have the most wonderful case worker I have ever had. her name is Christy. they are helping me with housing assisting me with all of my social programs like SSI Medicaid Social Security but most importantly with my immediate needs being met
Not the best shelter out there. Some of the staff are rude or treat the clients as lessers. The staff that are the good ones are overworked or have gone to get better jobs. However, from what i heard, its the best shelter in Kansas City, which makes me sad.
Hardworking, dedicated Staff that shows compassion for their job and what they do. Always very friendly and helpful.
Went there to eat lunch and see what other serviceses they can provide
The place got me on my feet in a timely manner, it's a bit scary at times regarding the safety here, but I'm eternally grateful for the support I've managed to get.
They help you get back on your feet they have many resources like computer lab job fairs that comes there every week they help with getting you clothes for work or shoes hygiene products and many more there the best
Great service offered for runaway and homeless teens.
A good organization. They are helping people in need. They are doing a good thing for the community. I donated some clothing items for the Homeless.
The most wonderful and helpful staff that'll do anything to help no matter what it takes! They're LGBTQ friendly and recognize transgender women as the women we are! Thanks to everyone at ReStart and all the people who donate to keep it so nice!
Alot of resources and assistance... But there is alot of confusion about when and where you need to be. Staff is assistable and helpful though
It's a great place to be if you need to get a restart in your life this will be the place
Best option for a homeless shelter. 3 hot meals and plenty of resources. The staff can be overwhelmed, make sure to know your case worker and their schedule. Appointments could be difficult without planning.
Wish they would move to Overland Park so these people could get real help. They just burden KC here.
Grate place to get help if you're homeless, hungry or in need of help with your bills and the staff is wonderful from maintenance personel to the director.
The organization really helps veterans and civilians with children.
Something like family really good help an all ways there if needed
It's a good place if you need a place to stay in order to get back on your feet emotional and financially stable enough to get back out on your own.
The day after giving birth I checked in this place with my newborn and 2 other children. As I was doing my intake the director, Donnie, heard my maiden last name and to my relief he announced that we were related. I had just moved to the state. I didn't know anyone or had any other family there outside of my husband and our 3 children.
When we finally made it to our room there were huge roaches everywhere. Still, we decided to stay until we could do better. For dinner they fed us red roses, and baked chicken. I had no idea that roses could be eaten. Because food was limited we were only allowed 1 piece of chicken each which meant that I was stuck eating roses so that my children who were 2yrs old and 3yrs old could eat. Still, I didn't complain. I was just happy to get out of the heat and rest.
When my husband finally arrived after work he had bought our things to our room, took a shower, and climbed in bed. I got up to kiss my children goodnight before I could even turn the lights off bedbugs were crawling on our children and husband as they slept!!! We left that night forced to leave all of our baby's pampers, kids toys, blankets, and most of our clothes behind. All that bedbugs didn't attack the roaches did. Thousands of roaches had gotten into our baby's bag that fast. I didn't understand why because I had no formula or food. My children were all breastfed.
We rushed our kids to the E.R. to have them inspected for bugs. Thankfully, everything was alright. I reached out to Donnie to see if some of our things could be salvaged from the bugs but he treated me as though I was asking for a hand out. He treated me as if I was a bomb. I'm no bomb! To make matters worst, because my maiden name is so popular in Kansas I couldn't get help from anywhere.
So, there I was with a business degree and my husband a CDL Driver lost in the middle of Kansas. I didn't plan to change my last made until I had finished my Engineering degree (I wanted to made my Daddy proud). Instead, I was forced to change my last name just to even be considered for an apartment in Kansas. I lived in Kansas for 4yrs not even knowing who my family was. Still, I was screwed out of almost everything that I applied for because of them.
Just another good social services help source here in Kansas City.
good for those in need of a home for family and females they mainly focus on family and people mostly in need. it's always filled.
They let ungodly things happen here and i don't think its right that i should have to sleep in my car instead of them moving me to another room
A great pace to go when life throws you a huge curve ball. Great staff they know you are going through a hard time and want to help!
reStart is a fantastic non-profit organization that is dedicated to empowering people who are facing or experiencing homelessness. I commend reStart and its team for the great work they do and support them in their efforts to help those in need and improve the community as a whole.
It's very helpful it offers shelter for the homeless feeds the hungry also there's a youth program there that shelters our lost youths they have GRATE guidance counselors. It's an all around GRATE place to receive the help you may need and if they can't help you trust me they will point t you to the right place that can help you.!!!! my name is William RHODES and I approve this message.
its a transitional living facility helps people get back on their feet in life.anyone that helps people get their life together is a step in the right area of human needs in these days and times.
This is a public shelter. This is a great place to regroup and build a good life.
Provides private room for Veterans homeless program. Also pays application fee, security deposit and up to three months rent to assist veteran to move in a apartment or a house. Has warehouse to provide veterans with free furniture appliances and dishes, pots and pans as well as linen.
Great cause, Restart Inc. helps the homeless get off the street, back into housing, job search resources, counseling, hygiene, and of course with food. I had the opportunity today, through Menufy, to help prepare meal kits for Thanksgiving.
The beds are uncomfortable and staff can be very rude but it's the only shelter in the area that actually has resources to help you get back on your feet.

Place saved my life in 1998. Great support services.
I didn't get to really work with anyone so I cannot give an accurate review
It is a great place to get back on your feet. They supply you with everything you need for a fresh start.
I called to get information about shelter and I am 55 years old and single just need a leg up. The person on the phone was rude and said they're full didn't even answer my questions. If there's are bugs there they need to be getting a bug man there. That's a health issue.

Haven't checked it out yet. Review should be done by the end of the week.
Their customer service in back of building sucks, but in the dining room customer service is awesome.
Over the past 20 years I've witnessed the improvements at ReStart and the services they provide to the homeless in our community, including teens forced from their homes. Thank you for all you do to make our community a better place to live.
This is a great place to receive help if you need emergency housing as an adult with or without children!
Amazing Shelter will provide you with tools and help to make this a stepping stone in your life and not your final destination.
This is an organization wherein I like donating clothes, household items and other things that people may need who are trying to get back on their feet. This place helps the homeless find a new start in life. It would be nice if everyone could give to this organization and not just during the holiday season.
TO ALL LANDLORDS- the program is not so great as a landlord! I had a one year contract with this program for a tenant and EVERY month the payment was extremely late. It was always an excuse on why the payment would be a month late and sometimes even 2 months late and they don't want to pay late fees. The communication is even horrible. I would have to email every month to inquire about my payment! Overall, this was not a good experience with this program for me as a Landlord as they don't pay on time nor even consider late fees.
It's ok place, they there to help homeless individuals. If you need help just ask and hopefully they can help.
Our family was at Restart in 2015. They helped us to the best of their abilities. The staff we dealt with were nice and professional.
This place has great resources and help for those who need it. It's a great clean place to transition.
It would be better but I had gone in to take a test for help since I'm homeless and have been for some time. They haven't followed up or thru since then and I have health and mental medical concerns.... I've been brushed off like most other places seem to do and it takes me alot to even ask for any kind of help.
Organization was clean and hospitable. Very accepting of volunteers and had a very goal oriented team to work with. Great volunteer opportunity.
Called to inquire about services. The lady that answered the phone was rude in simply said we don t have availability and hung up
Homeless shelter that serves babies to grandparents. Great staff. Good community resource connections.
A great place for those who truly want t a new beginning if a person is willing to put in the work and stay deadecateted to the program they can help put a life back together good people there lots of resources at there despot but a person has to be serious for it to work but by the grace of GOD they can and do help humanity
Restart handing out food and water across from my husband's Masonic Lodge
If you like being treated like your worthless. Come here. Its dirty the staff is mean as can be. Def don't see many people getting put in to housing either it's sad...
This place is rude they have rats and roaches do not go there i will rather be homeless then go there. This place is stupid why did they even make this place? it was just a waist of their time. They barley even help you they just throw you in a home that is nasty just like this place.
