Beer was $14 a glass and smelt chemically in the glass. One food order came at least ten mins after the rest of our group. Food not cheap yet very average with chunky fries firm in the middle and brittle burger buns, tasteless fish. Shame as had promise to be good with good atmosphere

I had a quiet Saturday lunch here. It was a little expensive, but the food was impressive and was well-paired with the beers. I had the Brioche Beef Burger and the Old Ale (as suggested by the menu). The burger itself comprised of a thick and generous beef pattie and a slab of buffalo mozzarella. The Old Ale was surprisingly sweet and prickly, and left a bitter after-taste that was well-complemented by the tomato relish of the beef burger.
Fancy pub with own-brewed beers in a broad range of styles. Had a great beer degustation ("beer class") here with some nice food and some explanations on brewing and pairing food with beer, but the beer was definitely the star. Nice grown up atmosphere. They do tasting paddles, albeit with preset selections (if you ask nicely they might mix them up a bit). A bit pricey but the beers are very, very good.
On a recent trip to Sydney we came across such a beautiful pub to relax and wind-down between meetings. Friendly staff and amazing ambience, perfect for after-work hours. The decor was old and nostalgic; at the Redoak Beer Cafe. Definitely coming back!
Redoak is a boutique craft brewery with an impeccable taste in food. I would recommend the beer and food tasting it has small bites of food paired with in house brewed beers. Its a great experience and worth the money. If you feel a bit hungry after share a pizza or snack.
This is a quality beer cafe, right in the heart of the city. The selection of beers is amazing; the staff are friendly and very knowledgeable about all their brews. The food is also top quality.
Book a beergustation - food and beer matching - to get the best out of this place.
Once again, we had dinner here before going to the Genesian Theatre. As usual, the food, service and beers didn't disappoint. Will be back next year for more pre-Theatre dinners.
DON'T EAT HERE IF YOU'RE VEGETARIAN. As a homebrewer and beer lover, I had wanted to visit red oak for some time, so when I read Sal's review that the vego food was good, I booked a table for dinner... but I was very disappointed with the vego options. For starters there was only one vego main that sounded the same as one of the dishes on the vego tasting plate (the only vego entree option) so I asked the waitress if they were the same thing and she told me they were different... it wasn't. Aside from the fact that the waitress lied, I find it extremely lazy and insulting to vegetarians that they can't even be bothered coming up with something different to offer for the main. The dish was also quite bland. To their credit, we were given a free cheese plate for the table when I complained. As for the other meals - the meat eaters were happy with their steaks, and salmon for mains, but all the tasting plates (seafood, vego and meat) were a bit hit and miss.
Unique lineup of beer and i really enjoyed beer tasting menu which we can choose 4kinds of beer from the list. I went on weekdays and so cozy and good mood. Foods and staff are nice too.
Incredible experience, the venue and staff was lovely. My only complaint would be that they served their cheeseboard with more bread instead of crackers. Highly recommend this place to everyone!
Would never ever deal with company again. Many errors made with booking and rescheduling on their behalf. Could not get a refund. And still got an email asking if I enjoyed my experience even though we never got to attend.
I visit Redoak every other trip when I visit Sydney. I enjoy the beer and the food! Had the Wagyu burger the first time I came two years ago, and is one of my favourite. Today I tried the barramundi and it was very nicely done. Nice thick fillet, skin is prepared to a crisp and the meat is nice and moist. The pairing of the fish with the Honey Ale is really good. Dessert was a Beeramisu, and it s a great twist to a typical Tiramisu.
Wow what a cool place. Great range of own brewed beer, excellent food and incredible service. The manager looked after so well. Traveling with a 8y daughter in a wheelchair has many challenges. The staff and manager couldn't have been more helpful. Many thanks for a most enjoyable experience..
I really did expect more from this place. Although the beers were decent enough compared to the normal commercial stuff on tap, I found the bar staff not knowledgeable enough. I asked for a taster consisting of 4 different beers. And after tasting I found out 2 of the beers I chose had been changed as they were no longer available on tap. This would not constitute to be a problem but at no time did they inform me about it.
Went with a friend for dinner @ around 6pm on a Tuesday. Really cool place, fancier interior than I expected. Used an EatClub voucher so it was really reasonable. Great selection of beers and nice variety on the menu. Will go back again.
Redoak is Beertopia. They're the makers of some of the world's best beer, made with painstaking care. They take styles from around the world, search for traditional recipes, and source the finest, natural ingredients. The results are spectacular. The dazzling amount of styles on offer features everything from Belgian-style Framboise, resembling raspberry champagne, to the ultra-premium Special Reserve, which is more akin to espresso than beer. The owners are incredibly passionate and knowledgeable and always happy to talk, and the service is friendly and charming. The eating here is as tasty and as eye-opening as the drinking. The food menu isn't just matched to the beers, the beers are in the food - Apple Cider casserole, Wheat Beer pudding, and beer ice cream made daily. Beer ice cream? These guys aren't just brewers, they're magicians.
We were a little excited to check this place out given the reviews but were sadly disappointed.
While the Cafe had a groovy vibe to it, it didn't wow us in any way.
The staff were friendly, but we got the impression it was because they were bored and were happy just to have customers.
We ordered the Bakers bread (which is a fav of ours on any menu) only to discover it wasn't fresh and we only received 5 small pieces, unlike the usual loaf that we were expecting. On top of that, we didn't get any salt to dip with it.
I had the pasta which was nice, but not something that I remember to be exciting. My partner had the sausages based on the reviews only to describe them as 'just sausages'.
We are fans of craft beef and cider... but again walked away disappointed with the whole experience. The cider was extremely heavy and a tad bitter, so getting through the whole "wine glass" of it was a slow process.
While it wasn't a "bad" experience here, we didn't walk away excited about making the decision to go there.
The beer isn't half bad (4 stars) and the bar staff are friendly but the food that we had left a great deal to be desired (1 star). We had the meat platter and as well as being expensive the chips were soggy (probably oven chips as well), the steak had a stewed quality and the onion rings were tasty but too greasy. I'd drink there again, but not eat, although I prefer places like Wayward Batch in the inner west where you get to drink the beer where it is made.
I brought 8 of my staff here tonight for our end of month meal and drinks. (Aussie pale ale is great) My staff were all reasonably happy with their burgers & pizzas etc but my $48 steak was absolutely terrible. Sauce nice, cooked medium rare as requested but the cut of meat was an absolute disgrace. Fatty, tough as a boot, worse than a $5 Woolworths sirloin. I bet your chef hates you because he is trying to put lipstick on a pig. Seriously?
Beers were good but don't go for spirits. Double shot of black label for 28 bucks is super expensive. You can get a good rum cocktail for the almost half the price with even better vibes at Lobo plantation Also, the surcharge bit is a bit debatable but it just does not add up at this place. Even more smaller business charge almost negligble amount. Ask for a receipt or they will charge you more
Came in for a lunch bought on groupon for our 13th wedding anniversary, the waitress was a lovely happy girl from the Sunshine Coast where we were visiting from, she was very polite, helpful and sincere an asset to the restaurant.
Food was great, beers and cider even better, I highly recommend this business.
The staff are super helpful and friendly, the beer (range and taste) is brilliant and very delicious, and the food is ridiculously tasty.
The decor and vibe of the venue is relexed and comfortable, but still well-polished. The choice of restaurant or bar service is a great option.
We ordered the Nepalese curry, and sausages and mash. The mash was perfectly cooked and seasoned, and very creamy. The sausages were lean, fresh and packed with flavour.
The curry was mild (no chilli), but still amazing, and full of fresh veggies and flavour. We also ordered a side of steamed veggies - had the ask if the kitchen could do this and they were happy to, which came out bright and still crunchy - yum!
Overall, a wonderful experience. We can't wait to come back.
Had the Beer and canape tasting plate - overpriced, poor value. Staff, although welcoming on entry were never seen again. Only good point was the atmosphere of the patrons. Had it not been for the voucher present would never go again
We went with a group of 8 for their Beer Tasting evening (afternoon). Had a great time - good food including some interesting tastes. And a different beer with every course. Highly recommended if you enjoy a good beer.
Best food and beer combination I have had on Australia. Beer is exquisite and food is to die for. If you like the Belgian Beer Cafe you have to get to this place.
Went there for a christmas dinner. Not happy with food choices I was very limited to food choices if with a set menu. As a gluten free diner.. I could eat alot. Couldn't have anything on the entree coz it come in contact dinner was also served with couscous first all after been told and a bowl of fruit for dessert. Now have having a reaction coz my dinner... and seating was terrible.
Friendly service and good beer menu by Australian standards. The beers are still pretty mild by overseas standards but they are more full flavored than most things in the area and fresh. Had the burger and it had great flavor.
Friendly staff and pleseant vibe, this beer Cafe definitely has the micro-brewery "feel". Overall, the beer selection isn't as large as you would expect, but they do have a dozen of their own brews which is more than the largest independent breweries have. Already looking forward to the next time I come here.
Crocodile nachos were amazing, and the pizza's we had were just as good The vast variety of beer, especially of their own creation, blew me away, the beer samples are also very generous! I highly suggest trying this place out, the menu is also perfect for large groups.
Excellent, friendly service from a clearly over-worked waiter. Our beers were served promptly and were of the finest quality. The dessert tasting plate left a little to be desired - if I were to order again I would get the summer trifle, but perhaps this is only because some of the flavours (especially the truffles and the burnt caramel of the cheesecake) were somewhat challenging to the palate. Definitely would return - if only for the excellent beers.
I have been to Redoak for the past two years and this place is top notch. The beers are fantastic with a range that everyone would love. In addition, the staff is very cordial and go out of their way to appease you. The food is very exquisite with the choice of meats, cheese, seafood and vegetables. The atmosphere is enjoyable with people that similarly enjoy the same beer and food tastes. The location is downtown Sydney so it is very easy to walk to and with the city subway system, it is easy for everyone else to get to. Overall, it is an enjoyable experience and the staff makes it very easy to enjoy as well.
They have an amazing selection of beers, numerous of which have won awards over consecutive years. Got the dessert tasting plate with matching beers which was great and meant we didn't have to formally sit down in the adjoining restaurant and could keep it casual at the bar. Definitely returning!
A little on the expensive side but always an excellent selection of beers. Once of the beers I got was a Belgian ipa and it was really interesting and delicious .
The beer is delicious and unique, however it is grotesquely overpriced. The outdoor area in front is great. Good place to go if you're a middle-aged-middle-manager who wants a drink after work.
Nice pub with a good selection of boutique beers on tap. Good atmosphere and pretty good food, but everything is quite expensive. Friendly and helpful staff who are able to make good recommendations. Good decor helps to add to the atmosphere
