We loved our stay at the Red Lion on the River Jan...
We loved our stay at the Red Lion on the River Jantzen Beach. The staff were absolutely perfect. Truly, they could have not been more wonderful - every single person from the housekeeping to the front desk to the security to the wait staff - absolutely amazing. The food was fantastic - best hotel breakfast I have ever had. Kids always eat free off the kids menu and we got a deal (maybe everyone gets it, not sure - we did Groupon) where we got a $24/day credit (so $12 per adult for standard occupancy) applied to breakfast at the restaurant. It covered our bill fully. And the food was GREAT. The room was beautiful, clean, and comfortable. The beds have 4 different pillows, all different firmness - very nice touch, triple sheeted, charging ports, vanity area outside of the bathroom, nice large bathroom and closet, table, spacious room and Every room has a private balcony. On one side of the hotel, the rooms look over the parking lot and the other side (premium and above) look out over the river. There is a beautiful pool and hot tub (very reminiscent of a tropical resort), tennis courts, full bar, and shuttle to the MAX. Really, it is ideal. The planes are flying over constantly, which you can hear outside, but with the door shut, you can barely hear them - and it is also kind of cool because the planes are super low. Now, for the negatives: the hotel is huge - really really long like a resort. We got turned around repeatedly and had to walk a ton. For my 80 year old mom, that was especially a challenge. So, if you stay on the 4th floor (and maybe 3rd), note that you cannot walk from end to end on the 4th floor - you have to go down and then across - it's like a maze. And the hallways go around virtually unmarked hallways and doorways. And they have the feeling and smell dated, like a very very old hotel - which was kind of cool, adventurous, but a bit off-putting for some I would imagine - the long strange hallways didn't seem to match the look and feel of the lobby which was open and updated and bright and spotless. The pool and hot tub are at one end and the tennis courts are at the other. The restaurant and lobby are much closer to the pool, so when we stay here again, I will request that side of the hotel - it really was extreme. As for the hot tub, it is pretty small for such a large hotel. It was very crowded. But, the area was gorgeous. The pool was beautiful. And they have poolside food/drink service! And room service - really really great service and amenities, especially for the price. We will DEFINETLY stay again, but we will avoid the tennis court side of the hotel.
