Ragged Mountain Running Shop

I brought my gross feet, beleaguered and broken, to ragged mountain running shop looking for heavy duty arch support on the job (food delivery, walking and driving for 12 hours at a time), and they did deliver. Feels like I'm wearing 12 league boots. A+.

I love the personal service and attention to detail. They are experts at getting the correct shoe for your feet and gait. And I love that they keep track of which shoes have worked well for me in the past and why. Last time I went, I couldn't get the same shoe because it's no longer available in narrow. But the next option Alec brought out was perfect! I'm so impressed

The salesperson was willing to help at first and watched me run in different pairs of shoes. Felt somewhat pushy about some pairs though even though I expressed disinterest in them. Then I made the mistake of openly taking a picture of the shoes I had liked the most. My intentions of taking the picture were solely for my own purpose of remembering which shoes I liked there so when I went to other stores in the area I could look back and decide. This was my first day of shopping for new running shoes and knew I wasn t buying them from the first store without visiting at least the other locally owned running store in town. The manager immediately accosted me and asked why I took the picture. He then asked me if I had even intended on buying shoes there that day. I was taken aback by his confrontational attitude and he went and told the salesperson helping me in the back. Her attitude changed entirely as well after that and told me she hoped I wasn t going to buy the shoes online after taking all of her time . They offered to hold the shoes for me as a reason why I don t need to take photos but even that was too much commitment for me at the time.I had actually wanted to try on some sports bras and (probably buy one) but not after all that. I understand brick and mortar businesses are in serious decline because of online business, but you re going to chase away all your customers if you are assumptive like that. I went to Crozet running and found a beautiful pair of shoes that they don t even carry at Ragged Mountain. They carry Topos which I highly recommend.

They know everything there is to know about shoes. Running shoes are expensive no matter where you go, so I choose to come here and get great service to find the right shoe. The owners do a lot for the local running community too, so that's a bonus!

Holly cow, after my experience yesterday, i cannot think of buying a pair of shoes any other way, i was there for some time, only because Rachel, the young lady helping me with my fitting and advising on which shoes would work best for me, refused to settle for just any shoe or fitting. i must have tried on 15 pairs, she was so patient, knew the products so well. i came home bragging to my wife. My son is 6'6", size 14 shoe, flat footed, he will buy his next pair of shoes at Ragged Mountain, i just hope they have size 14 stocked, usually can't buy 14's off the shelf. the prices were more than fair. Nothing can replace the personal attention given to customers as well as the knowledge of employees. Each customer receives a one on one with an employee who watches the way the customer walks/runs and is able to match the best shoe for individual foot. They will spend as long as it takes to get it right.

Only at RMRS did I discover why I was having problems with exercise... The salespeople always check the fit and confirm it with the manager... After 20 years i was no longer a size 9.5 but 8.5 narrow...on top of having two different sized feet.. This came as a shock last year... Yet this year I succombed to the amazon aura and bought shoes online... Bad idea; they didn't fit right... This weekend I tried on the same shoe I bought last year at the discount section, this year's model, and several other shoes until i found the correct fit... They were very patient with me. So yes, even if they have a discounted section, you probably will pay full retail... But you get great service... Also, visit between 8:30-9:30 saturdays to get 10% off... I did.

Fantastic community of runners who KNOW thier stuff and are well-connected and well-supportive of the local running scenes. These guys believe in the potential of young people (me being one of them) and support so many others beyond the running community! The staff is friendly, curteous and willing to tell you what product will best serve you. Sometimes people dont understand that even though a certain shoe might have great curb appeal, it is not best one for thier body mechanics. These guys are well-versed in helping others understand this and will save you TONS of pain and money in treating unnecessary injuries!

Great store, great people, always helpful and they know their stuff. They fit you properly and take the time to help you find the right shoe. Even if I could find my particular shoe cheaper on the web (and I can't by the way) I wouldn't bother. They stand behind their stuff and once swapped a pair of my daughter's shoes that wasn't quite right. Plus they support all kinds of local athletes and teams. This is a feel-good store, always fair prices, always great service.

Been buying my running shoes from here for many years. Knowledgeable staff and the owner has gone out of his way to make sure I was taken care of on many occasions.

I love this family owned business. Very knowledgeable staff, GREAT customer care, and unbeatable community engagement. I recently needed to replace my old running shoes and the staff told me that they had observed that this year's model of the shoe I have worn for years had changed and recommended a different brand. I resisted a little but as soon as I got the recommended shoes on my feet I knew they were right all along. I can't imagine getting running shoes for myself or my kids anywhere else as long as I live in Virginia.

Easy in and out with curbside service. They brought out the style I've bought the last several times, I tried them on, they fit, I bought and left. Took 10 minutes.

I ordered online and within minutes had a text asking me a few more questions about the shoes I'd purchased and my experience with them, all to confirm I was getting the best shoe for me. On top of that they were delivered to my door a couple of hours later. Service doesn't get better than that!

The old lady that was in charge was completely rude. I dont know why she was so rude because I was absolutely friendly with them. I wouldn't recommend anyone to go there and purchase. RUINED my day.

This store and it's employees should go down in local history as one of the premier stores for service, patience, friendliness, efficiency, and selection! I went in on a Saturday when a running club was there and the place was a zoo! I had come with specific problems and, for a moment, almost left thinking I should probably come back during the week when I wouldn't have to wait so long to be helped. About a minute after entering the store, Rachael came over and asked if she could help me and thus began an incredible experience with an incredible young woman. She listened carefully as I explained my issues, asked questions, watched me walk, then brought out some shoes. It took many tries to find just the right shoe for fit, support and comfort and Rachael was nothing but efficient, experienced and cheerful as she made multiple trips to the stockroom. I placed my order (which she offered to deliver when it came in because we live in the same area) and left. A few minutes later, I got a call saying that I'd forgotten my inserts and Rachael would drop them by. Then, a day later I realized I'd left my socks too (Jeez!). No problem. One phone call to the store and a conversation with a delightful young man (who remembered that wild Saturday afternoon) and my socks were tagged and left in an area for Rachael! My husband, who waited patiently while I tried on pair after pair, observed the activity in the store and summed it up well; "If you can't find the right shoes in this place, you can't find them anywhere!" What more can I say?!

I had to pop in here rather than Crozet Running, which is 20 min or so further from me, due to a time constraint. There was what seemed to be a prospective or current employee training session going on w/ 4-5 high school/college kids, and I was perturbed by how rude and condescending the older gentleman leading it was being to them. I will continue to take the extra time to go out to Crozet Running in the future where everyone is always cheerful and pleasant.

With the staffs watches you run, walk and uses differently running terminologies to guide you in buying the right running shoe, you may think the store is about improving your running experience or perhaps your well being in general. Sadly this is not true. Ragged Mountain Running Shop is all about making profits. They train their sales reps who could analyze your gait and make recommendations that seem scientifically sound. However, when inquiring about the price, I started wondering if I have to have a six figure salary to be a runner. When I asked if they could make recommendations for cheaper shoes online, they called me cheap skate who sees doctors without paying. They further insisted that just as doctors would never provide any service without making profits, the Ragged Running Shop would not give any help that does not lead to selling of their shoes. As a student in the healthcare profession, this is an utter insult to all doctors. Doctors do not see patients so they could make money. We see patients because we want to help. In fact, UVA Health System have financial assistance for those who cannot afford health insurance. When I was in college, I helped to organize Relay for Life. I was touched by many local restaurants who would donate food without asking for any endorsements. The founders of the Ragged Shop,Mark and Cynthia Lorenzoni, pride themselves in being in involved in the local community. In About Ragged Mountain page of the website, it says "Many of our high schoolers are active with civic and church groups and our college students belong to a variety of service organizations and causes. All of them freely volunteer their time to help those in need." (the Ragged shop employ high schoolers and college students). Am I not a fellow citizen in need? I can assure you that any kindness toward me would not have been wasted as I have many doctor friends who are avid runners and would pay anything for a better running experience.

With gyms being closed I am forced to get back into running. I was referred to Ragged Mountain and now I know why. They are not allowing people in, but answered all of my questions by phone and left two pair for me to pick up outside to make sure I get the right size. They also took the time to write a personal thank you note! This is what small business is all about!

First, I have never written a google review but the customer service impressed me so much I had to! Second, don t purchase your shoes from Amazon! Buy them locally from extremely knowledgeable and caring people. I was going to get my shoes from Amazon but my friend told me about Ragged Mountain so I decided to give them a try. They were great in so many ways. From finding the right support, to brand, to fit. I will never buy my sneakers from another place again!!!! Thank you!!! The personal note was so touching!!

I have done business here for years. The only option of Brooks they have was one style and color so the the sales woman said new balance was the same. I bought something I shouldn t have needing new shoes. Tried to return them but can only get a store credit without being able to see options. I will never do business here again. Service is impossible with covid restrictions of not being allowed to see the product.

This has been my go to place for running shoes for years. While Richmond Virginia is much closer for me, I gladly drive the extra mileage.The level of personalised service that they provide far exceeds any other running store I have ever visited. And even now with Covid restrictions in place, they are still providing one on one service, albeit outside and with masks, carefully assessing your running gait, and making sure that the shoes you buy are both a good fit and the correct shoe for your running goals.

Ordered shoes Friday morning- had them by early afternoon the next day! And a personal email with some questions. And a thank you note that was very cheering. The Lorenzoni family goes above and beyond!

I can't tell you how much I LOVE this store. They are very knowledgeable. I have some serious foot issues before adding on the fact that I had an ankle ligament reconstruction in Sept! They worked with me for almost an hour to help me find shoes that will work perfectly at THIS stage of my recovery AND as I add on more things. I also want to point out that I NEVER felt any kind of ANYTHING related to my weight. As a plus sized athlete, I OFTEN encounter bias and disrespect. I NEVER leave this store feeling anything less than a rock star athlete.

This is the best experience I've ever had while shopping for athletic shoes! They really take out the guess work when it comes to finding shoes that accommodate the fit and support you need. One of the owners helped me find the shoes I purchased after analyzing my gait. First she had me walk and jog a short distance in the shoes I've been wearing to work out and walk, then had me do it again while barefoot. Then she had me repeat the walking and jogging in different shoes with the type of support I need, building up until we found the shoes with right level of support for me. I didn't even know this type of service existed! I'm so glad I decided to get new shoes here, and will absolutely be returning for all of my sneaker purchases in the future. I highly recommend this store, especially if you find you have pain after standing or doing any type of exercising on your feet. Having the right type of support makes all the difference and can save you a lot of pain. These guys will definitely help you out!

Best Running Shoe Store Ever! The employee showed me Asics as requested. I am very obviously not a runner, and had to request the top of line shoe I had in mind. She was not trying to sell me the most expensive shoes! I had that particular shoe before and really enjoyed them, so I wanted to stick with them. Then she had me walk on artificial grass to observe my walk, and then had manager come over to confirm the fit. There is also a permanent discount for all UVA graduates. It just doesn't get any better than this!!!! Pictured below, my new favorite shoes.

I wanted to order from them to help a local business anyway, but I got a really good deal, got strong phone and text support, and this was amazing got delivery of my shoes within a couple hours after my order!
