Great shop and amazing service. They know their products well!

I have been coming to Ragged Mountain since moving to Charlottesville five years ago. I started off with them because they are a small, local business which I am always aiming to support. I have continued with them because of their excellent customer service. It could be your first time or your 100th visiting and they treat each of their clients as VIP, always taking the time to ask about your training habits and often just asking about how life is for you at the moment. Most recently, they have had to majorly pivot their sales and hours due to COVID. EVERY local, small business should take note of their practices. They have handled the pandemic with grace, flexibility, and safety-first mentality. I will forever be loyal to them, regardless of my place of residence, because their passion, dedication, and love of the community is unparalleled.

Only place I buy my shoes from. I suffer from severe chronic back pain and from my first visit 6 years ago they helped me tremendously to find a more suitable sneaker. Amazing customer service and I never feel rushed.

Amazing. Even during COVID they made it extremely easy to shop for the right shoe. I have special needs for orthotics and haven t been able to find a pair that fits them well and doesn t hurt my feet. Within 10min an employee watched how I walk and found a pair of shoes for me that fit my orthotics and were extremely comfortable.

There would have been no chance for me to find this pair of shoe on my own. This is an amazing place. Highly recommend! Easy and free parking at the back of the store so you can just head around the corner. No need to stress to find parking!

While my kids were napping, I browsed their shoes online, ordered a pair, had them deliver to my doorstep, and tried them on before the kids woke up. That s speedy service. They were the best priced Hokas I could find. Very impressed with their service.

Superior service and knowledge .the owners are so sweet and genuine. They teach their staff well and I've never been disappointed in the 12 years I have lived on Charlottesville.

The pros:
they do a very extensive shoe fit analysis & truly want to get you into the right shoe. Friendly staff, great location, long standing history of supporting the community with races and inspiring an active lifestyle. If you run roads, concrete, bridal trail, or light gravel, then this is the store for you.

The cons:
Don't expect any kind of trail running gear here and a very limited trail shoe selection. I thought with the word 'mountain' in their business name, that naturally they specialized in ...well... mountain trail running. I was wrong. Little strange but alas.

Overall: excellent service, friendly, knowledgeable college aged employees, non-intimidating environment welcoming of everyone. Highly recommend for all your road running needs.

Really 5 stars - just rating it 4 so the review doesn't get lost in the sea of other well deserved 5 star reviews. This store was suggested to me 20+ years ago by a doctor/customer of mine who was watching me painfully gimp about. He asked a couple of questions and quickly diagnosed my problem as plantar fasciitis. He said I could waste a lot of money and time going to podiatrists or other doctors or I could go to this place and have one of their staff fix me up.
Not cheap but well worth the price of admission. Service has always been top notch.
Recent follow-up. I got a pair of shoes that had a manufacturers defect that wasn't readily apparent. When I discovered the problem the shoes were well worn but still has some life remaining. Ragged Mountain went to bat for me with the company rep and an equitable solution was arrived at.

They check your gait in bare feet and ask when/how you plan to use the shoes before they recommend which pairs might work best. Can't ask for anything better!

Charlottesville's favorite running store. Family run. Individual fittings that include assessment of walking/running foot position, to get exactly the right shoe. Small private (free) parking lot in back.

Only place to get shoes. They take their time with you, provide one on one customer support and have a huge selection.

Wanted to buy a hat, but nobody wanted to help me. The outside area looked terrible and unorganized.
