Staff: outstanding
Food: excellent
Experience: phenomenal
My favorite BBQ place. There some other places where I like the pork and others where I like the brisket or sides. But EVERYTHING at The Rub is great. I especially like the sausage and burnt ends. Just wish I lived closer to the restaurant.
Good portions and friendly staff. The food has an awesome flavor that doesn't require bbq sauce to make it work.
Since this is my 3rd trip here this week, I feel compelled to give it a review. It's delicious. Don't be a fool, stop in and get yourself some
We ordered take out brisket and pulled pork about a year and a half ago, and it was disappointing-low flavor and tough. Yesterday, we were hungry enough to try it again (it is very close to our house), but we won't try it a third time. The burnt ends had pieces that were tender, but other pieces so tough they could not be chewed. I ordered smoked chicken, and it came pulled from the bone already, very dry. The brisket was ok. The sides were lackluster, and the size of the servings were small enough to be laughable. Won't try it a third time.
Brisket was tender and plentiful. The fries were handmade and delicious. The vinegar coleslaw the best I have had. Can't recommend them highly enough. Really good barbque!!!
We have been getting bbq from here since they opened and each visit becomes more satisfying than the last! They offer really good quality and tasty bbq that, in our family's opinion, is second to NONE in kc. Their service knows no bounds in the goal of assuring complete satisfaction. Just fed 20 out of town guests tonight on a takeout order. These are guests who have tried other kc bbq places and they would not stop raving about the Rub's bbq. Nuf said! Ron D.
I dont know why google dosent doesn't do 1/2 stars. I went to "the rub" and since its kansas city..i just had to be picky! For bbq on the corner, this is very good! Their burnt ends were very very tender. The fries have that fresh coarse flash fried taste. We even had a nice chat with the manager. The sweet bbq sauce is my favorite of the two offered at the tables. They give a huge amount of food. Im not really a bbq enthusiast because pork happens to be naturally super fatty but if you live near, its a great date night idea. Dont expect to leave without some sauce on your face though.
My staff and I eat here a lot! Very consistent BBQ. I really enjoy their burnt ends and sausage. Their pulled pork is very good too. I really like how ownership is practically there every single day. They get to know you. I also like their rewards program where once you buy 5 meals, the next one is free. Great program to have repeat customers. We have also used them for catering at our company and our staff loves it when they find out the Rub is bringing BBQ. We've been there so many times, when we walk in the door, they already know what we want. That's great customer service.
The BBQ @ The Rub is unique and so yummy! They have a wide selection, from their "bowls" to sandwiches. This is the 2nd year in a row they have catered my office's picnic. Even off-site the food and service where great. I would reccommend the The Rub to anyone who loves BBQ!
Got it as takeout and a few things were forgetten, like they forgot to put sauce in the bag and completely forgot to put the bbq beans in the pork burrito. The quality of the meat was fine but nothing stood out, probably would have been better with sauce. Might go back but it is KC and there are lots of other bbq joints to choose from.
Wow, the food is delicious. I drove by there 100's of times and never stopped, until today. I am so glad I did, I have a new favorite bbq restaurant. I had the hillbilly bowl with burnt ends and really good sweet cornbread. I ended up getting another order to go too. I also love the sweet bbq sauce.
Hours were listed wrong on google maps and the open signs were on. Told they closed at 8.
One of the better BBQ joints in town. Fast and good. Try their beans - they are awesome.
Always good food and friendly staff. Clean facilities inside and out.
Good decent BBQ, fast and clean place, plates are usually large. BBQ is not moist enough for me, but it's a personal preference.
Pulled was good but a little dry. The original sauce was to sweet for me, they should consider adding a spicy sauce.
Pretty good BBQ joint with some interesting bowls of meat and corn and other concoctions. Worth trying if you're in the area
Service was friendly and fast. Pulled pork sandwich was really good. The BBQ sauce was standard. The fries not so good. Felt soggy and tasted like they were reheated. Would go back and give them another shot.
Not a fancy place but very clean and friendly. Food is really good and portions are large! Great spot for lunch if you are in the area.
Food is awesome and the staff is super friendly! The cornbread is the best around!
Fries could've been cooked longer but the burnt ends were great.
I have been eyeing this place on my way for for a long time. Friends kept telling me try it, its delicious. I finally stopped and I'm glad I did, the gentlemen in there were great. I ordered the burnt ends, which is my go to at all bbq restaurants. They were juicy, and delicious. Im glad I found another BBQ place to eat at.
Awesome bbq!! Now I hv a bbq spot for lunch when im at work craving burnt ends!!
The hillbilly bowl is a unique and delicious meal. Cornbread, beans, meat, and onion strings all in a bowl. And they have a great spicy barbecue sauce.
Great barbecue, and considerably less crowded than the overhyped KC Joe's.
Man this place is on point. To many time have I gone into a BBQ place in KC and there food has a generic taste and flavor like they use pre smoked meat and kc masterpiece for there sauce. Not this place they have a authentic flavor and taste of there own. There sauce reminds me of the old lost BBQ places of kc's past with a nice kick in the spicy one if that's your thing. Me I love brunt ends and the jumbo on a bun was more than I could handle and that's saying a lot. The service was nice and very fast all and all I'm definlty going back and this time I might take my wife and kid ;-). Told all my Buddy's at work and they tried it as well and they agree its killer. So if your looking for BBQ and the other Joe is packed head over to the rub and you won't be disappointed..
It was pretty good.
I grabbed a turkey sandwich to-go that was pretty tasty.
Staff was friendly.
I'd go back.
A go to place for work lunch. Get the corn bread as a side
I got a pulled pork sandwich which I thought was fairly good. With the added barbecue sauce I thought it was very good. Granted it wasn't the best in state fairly good for the price. I also tried the potato bowl, cheesy corn, and beef sandwich all were very good.
Delicious. I asked and the staff recommended burnt ends... It was good.
Hands down the best bbq sausage in kansas city. Try the hillbilly bowl. Great staff too.
Good bbq dissatisfied with sides bake potatoes luke warm, some French fries were hot and good, other fries were cold. Will have to try it again .
Just finished the brisket class and had a great time. I learned a lot about smoking meat and at the end we got a buffet with brisket, burnt ends, and lots of sides.
The sides included cheesy corn, which normally I'm not a fan of, but I loved loved loved these. They also included phenomenal beans, and pretty good fries. There was also the option of coleslaw, but I didn't try it. To many options to choose from.
The meat was AMAZING!!! The sauce was pretty good too. Especially the original, which was a vinegar based sauce. Normally I don't liked those kinds of sauces either, but they made me a convert.
The owner is clearly an expert at the BBQ arts. During the class he was able to explain the science of smoking and getting the results you wanted. He understood the types of wood, cooking chambers, and overall cooking environment. I also learned that he has a degree in the culinary arts and boy does it show, delicious food.
Most BBQ joints have a great meat or two and maybe, maybe one or two decent sides. This place seems to be great at everything they cook. Sry least everything I ate.
I will say this, and I don't do so lightly, they are much BETTER than Jack Stack and Oklahoma Joe's. And they even cater.
I will definitely be back and I am going to get my company to use them for catering.
Stopped by for a quick lunch today. First time coming here. Food was Great. Service was fast and super friendly. Will be back!!
We we're just passing through and wanted to try some KC barbecue. We were not disappointed!
My husband and I came for lunch and was very disappointed. He got a # 1 and I had#4
He bit into his sandwich and pulled out bone fragments from his sandwich and our fries were burned pretty badly. I understand about bits of bones possibly in the meat it happens BUT for them to serve really burned fries not good. We been here 2 other times and service wasn't bad as this. Sorry for the bad review just being honest . I hope the staff can be taught about quality of food service so no one else goes through this. If it's black as coal DON'T SERVE IT PERIOD
Best burnt ends I have had in KC (and I have tried a lot!). The food was amazing and the service was very attentive, friendly and helpful even for being counter service. I wasn't a huge fan of the French fries but the cheesy corn was incredible! I would definitely recommend it!
I was introduced to this place by my brother a few weeks ago. I have been back a few times and I have had a good meal everytime with extras. My favorites are the Ultimate Platter, Onion Straws and the burritos (yes, I know it is a bbq joint).
