The BBQ hash bowls are fantastic. Have eaten there four times. Worst thing I can say is that one of the times I had burnt ends that were chewy but the guy happily replaced them upon request and the other ones were excellent. As a novice who smokes my own briskets and ribs, I know this happens from time to time if they are not cooked low and slow enough. Have had most of their sides and they are very good although not personally a fan of Carolina style slaw (or anything else Carolina for that matter). Although they serve from a steam table, which is a bit unconventional for most area BBQ joints and which is a bit cafeteria-ish, they are just refilling the pans with already-smoked meats wrapped in plastic just like everyone else. Definitely on my BBQ circuit list and highly recommend to others.

Quick service. I like the BBQ here. The food is served cafeteria style almost, kinda like subway. You just pick and it goes on your plate. They do BBQ Bowls that look like they should stop your heart, but that won't stop you from ordering one!

Incredible KC BBQ. I suggest burnt ends, sausage, ribs, cornbread, cheesy corn, and creamy Cole slaw. Really, everything is good. Personally, I don't like their bbq beans, but that is due to their bean selection and is a personal, not general opinion.

Good food and quick service. The Rub is not the best barbecue in this barbecue to town, but it is solid quality and convenient. It's set up like a staffed food line. Sides and meats are in warmers (or coolers, as appropriate) behind glass and you pass through a line to get to the cash register - much like Chipotle.

Selection is standard BBQ fare. The burnt ends are especially good. Their burritos are the best thing on the menu.

Recommended.

Been coming here often for the past few years, for one thing and one thing only - the Burnt End Burrito. Perfect burnt ends, delicious baked beans, and the potatoes, jalapeno cheese, and peppers are all well topped off by their amazing hot barbeque sauce. I will definitely keep coming back!

I have been here at least a dozen of more times, food is great. I have not order anything I have not liked yet. The most of the staff is friendly and welcoming. Only thing is when I do come in the restaurant, other customers look at me and/or my family like we are not in the right place. We sometimes get stared at or dirty looks. these customers being pale skinned and my family and I being well.. you know... brown/black. But as far as the food go's it is good and I will continue to go here because the food is Great and the staff is nice.

This place has pretty good barbecue, I had the pulled pork with onions and peppers with fries. The sauce leaves something to be desired however I see that more as an optional condiment and that the BBQ should stand on its own, which it does rather well. The service was fast and food was fresh, tables were clean and people were friendly. I recommend to anyone looking for a BBQ that is tired of the big name brands and just want something simpler. I'll be back.

This is about the 53rd BBQ place on our BBQ tour. We had a burnt end sandwich with the mac and cheese as a side. The burnt ends were crispy, which I prefer, but also they were dry. They were slightly sauced before-hand, we added more sauce. The cheese sauce is a white sauce. The pasta was over-cooked so it was a little too soft.

We also had a three rib and one meat platter with side, choosing brisket and beans. The ribs were the best item we had. They were just a little under-cooked, but it was only just by a bit. I would prefer this than most ribs I tend to get which are over-cooked, falling off the bone (which people believe is a compliment but it is not correct). The flavor on the ribs was very good. The brisket was some of the fattiest brisket I've had. It was also sliced too thin in my opinion. It basically disintegrated in my mouth and the flavor was almost non-existent. I think it could easily be improved, I'm not trying to be too down on it. The beans were pretty unique to the other beans in KC. I liked that they were not sweet. There was a flavor I could not pinpoint and the cashier didn't give me an inkling as to what sets the flavor apart. Maybe the wood they use to smoke with imparts the flavor. It has multiple types of beans, and some meat in it as well. They were also thick. I liked that it wasn't just a bowl of soup - another thing I often encounter.

They have an original, sweet, and spicy BBQ sauce. I did not try the sweet. The original was not sweet at all (which I prefer) and it was a little more vinegary than others in KC, and a little black peppery. The spicy had a little spice but the flavor was not as good. I generally prefer a spicy sauce. I stuck with the original sauce. I didn't personally love it or hate it, but I think if you prefer a vinegar sauce to the sweet sauce around KC, you probably will like it here.

The service was fine. There is ample parking, and handicapped parking and entrance. Restrooms are semi-accessible.

Currently, there is a pandemic and I think they could do better. Their employees should be wearing masks, especially those serving the food onto plates. This may not be a requirement of Olathe/Johnson County/Kansas, but if nothing else, it's a good-faith gesture. They did restrict seating in order to have space between dining customers, and the BBQ sauce and utensils were packaged separately. They also have a few tables outside if you're not ready to dine-in.

Aren't burnt ends supposed to be soft and tender? I got a burnt ends sandwich today and some fries to the tune of just under $10, no drink. The guy scraped up the last of the meat out of the heated container and I brought it home to eat.

Most of the meat I got was pretty tough/hard and really pretty flavorless. With Oklahoma Joe's being another 8 minutes away, that's where I'll be going.

The Rub catered our graduation party and the food and service were amazing. We purchased both pulled pork and brisket, and had many complements on the food and inquiries about where it was from. Always great food in restaurant, but they outside themselves with the catering.

As I ordered, the guy behind the counter unwraps the leftovers from the previous day and proceeds to serve it to me. I knew then that we were off to a great start. The piece of cornbread that I had was still cold from the refrigerator. The burnt ends weren't bad, the pork was ok. Their beans are just odd and WAY too sweet, in my opinion. If you have to eat in the area and you crave BBQ, it's an "ok" option, on the outside of the greatest BBQ city in the world

We have never been to the restaurant, I order online and this has not been the first online order but it will be the last.
We ordered the ultimate which is four meats and it feeds 4 well to my surprise we only get half of our order.
I use door dash which is a wonderful service on the other hand the manager with the rub is a horrible person. My wife was speaking with a wonderful young woman at the restaurant and almost had everything resolved when the ( male) manager takes the phone from the young lady and starts to speak down to my wife .
My wife is shocked with the demeanor of the young man as am I , he seemed to me as being very demeaning to women.
Thanks to door dash everything was resolved never less to say the rub will not have our service anymore that's sad that a company has such little respect towards women or hires people that are disrespectful to women.

Wow! I had the mac-n-cheese bowl with burnt ends....and I was NOT disappointed!! The burnt ends were perfect! I'm a huge fan of Q39, Joe's KC and Jack Stack and I am very cautious about trying new BBQ places because I've been burned too many times. But let me tell you.....the BBQ hits you in the face in the parking lot and never lets go! I will be back to try the pulled pork and homemade fries. The wife had a baked potato with pulled pork and a slice of sugar-crusted cornbread....and DUDE! That cornbread is unreal!! We'll be back soon!

Service was fast and super nice! Pulled pork, cheesy corn and fries were ON POINT! I tried the brisket and wasn't the biggest fan. The texture was great but it just didn't have the flavor I was looking for. Doesn't matter, I will still go back for that pork alone!

Will not be going back...Ask for a toasted bun (did not get), string fries floating in grease not cooked long enough and way to much salt, cold slaw alarming warm. And no they were not busy. They should also include their website on receipt.

All I have to say is wow! This place is delicious! It offers many unconventional ways to eat BBQ. Most reasonable options are $10-12, but it goes up from there. Drinks are pricey at $2.59 for a 20oz. Our choices were: Baked potato bowl: baked potato topped with pulled pork $10, fried onion shreds, caramelized onions/peppers and BBQ sauce; hash bowl: cubed fried potatoes topped with pulled pork, sliced chicken, beef tips (I think) and beef sausage (like kielbasa style sausage), fried onion shreds, cheese and BBQ sauce $11; fat boy: in a bun: beef sausage, pulled pork, Cole slaw, fries, BBQ sauce $11. All absolutely delicious and filling! I would absolutely come here any time I'm in the area!! Note: from the outside it looks like a sit down restaurant, but it's more like a fast food set up, and Subway/Chipotle/Qdoba style ordering process.

My husband went last night with friends and asked that I share his experience. He said the trash cans were over flowing and the plate tubs were toppling. The employees seemed unaware and watched as a family cleaned a table for themselves so they could sit. They were not busy either so it made no sense. The staff seemed oblivious. The fries were cold and mushy, the meat was so-so, and the coleslaw was bland and not at all creamy. The sauce was the only good thing.

Maybe it was becasue it was a late afternoon on Sunday? My son and I love ribs. We usually grab a slab and an app. when we try new places. The staff was amazing and went out of the way to answer question. The ribs were ok tender and meaty, but I like seasoning and the places name is The Rub which is why we stopped and there was no real standout rub flavor. The bbq sauce was good so that gave them flavor. The award winning beans were tasted by all three of us and then thrown in the trash. The cheesey corn was dried up and also met file 13. Maybe if it had been stirred better before putting in to go container. I give them E for effort and maybe if I had tried something else. It gets 3 stars because of the staff being so kind and helpful. No wow factor.

I loved my combo sandwich. Surprisingly, the turkey was even better than the thinly sliced brisket. Great sauces to choose from. If I'm out that way again I'll try some ribs or something else on the menu. Fries were just ok, and beer selection could be expanded a bit. Give it a try!

The Rub is the perfect wedding caterer every step of the way, from planning until the last bite was enjoyed. It tasted amazing, so much food for each guest, and they took care of everything so we could relax and enjoy the reception. Thank you to everyone at The Rub for the amazing meal and top notch customer service you provided for our daughter s special day!

Priced competitive with other BBQ's in the area. Brisket needs better trimming after cooking. Ribs were for the most part good

I love the decor and staff. The food was very bland however. Without BBQ Sauce the meats were rather tasteless. However the sides were very good. I enjoyed the ordering process and the affordability but comparative to other BBQ restaurants near by I d be hard pressed to revisit this one.

Had the burnt ends platter. Wasn't too impressed as meat was precut and kept in container on warming table. It was very salty and old tasting. Won't return. Too bad because I was really ready for good BBQ.
