The hotel is a bit weak on service, and fairly run down- my room had torn carpets all over. It wasn't too horrible, and the very large well maintained pool/hot tub helped make up for the quality of the rooms.

We really enjoyed the large indoor swimming pool.
However, when my husband arrived home, he realized he had left some clothing items in the room at the Clarion. He immediately called and they said that the clothing had been found and they would hold these items until he came back to retrieve them. My husband explained that we were hundreds of miles away and would not be returning for a LONG time. My husband offered to send a check to cover the cost of shipping the items to us. They said they did not do that. My husband called repeatedly to speak with the manager about the problem, but the manager never returned his call. We finally figured out a way that another person could get the clothing from the hotel and then return the items to us. The hotel said that the clothing items were no longer at the hotel. They basically said it was our problem all along and they were not responsible. This is a matter of servicing the clientele for the hotel...something that hotels pride this themselves with. So we called the national Clarion offices and were told, in not so many words, that they did not care either. So...be very careful when staying in a Clarion hotel, which I would not recommend. They care very little about the service they provide.

The staff at the hotel are very helpful, and very friendly. The common areas of the hotel are maintained beautifully. The pool area could use some repairs and updating. The room was clean, but in need of serious updating. The provided breakfast was typical for this kind of establishment.

We visited the Clarion hotel for swim lessons using the hotel pool. The pool itself is outdated but clean. I have not seen the interior of any hotel rooms. The staff were friendly, appropriately groomed and dressed. Hotel conveniently located off I-80.

The hotel is not well-kept. Our room overlooks the courtyard. I appreciate we had easy in and out access for our dogs but the court yard is a mess. It's full of weeds and not well-kept at all. The outside pool wall has peeling paint and the curtains in rooms across the courtyard are shredded. The parking lot has garbage everywhere and grassroots and weeds coming up through the cracks. The
You landscaping is full of weeds. Our carpet in the room was still damp and the furniture is Mis-matched and showing signs of age with lots of scratches. It's all old and out-dated and not kept up. The hotel staff were great on customer service. Free breakfast was what you would expect anywhere. Coffee is awful. The handle on the slider is barely hanging on. Dirty windows and window tracks.

Not a three star hotel. Maintenance needed from back door jam rusted out. Need key to get in back door? NO handle is duct taped down. Severe water damage on dresser which had pieces missing. Terrible patchwork on hole in drywall. Chirping smoke detector. This should never happen if batteries are changed according to code. Rusty around drain in tub. Maybee I got the priceline special but I'll never bid on a 3 star in Iowa city again. PLACE NEED WORK OR DEMOTED TO 1 STAR

We had an awful experience here. It started with the front desk not being to put my point card into the system. The carpet and bedding is old and dirty. Our shower had no water pressure and the tub did not drain...it was disgusting. To top it off the rate was $169 and we got no service to our room. No one had left us clean towels or anything. We will never stay here again! Gross

Comfortable and relaxed hotel right off I-80. Breakfast was standard hot continental fare. The coffee was surprisingly good. Staff was very welcoming, friendly and helpful. Bathroom was very clean and well stocked.
My only complaints are that the room carpet was in need of a cleaning or replacement, as it felt a bit 'sticky' under the foot, and the pillows felt a bit thin and lumpy considering the otherwise perfectly adequate linens.

Clairon Highlander 2525 N Dodge St Iowa City Ia. Two queen bed room was clean and acceptable. Hot tub was not working. Bar was not properly stocked for quality drinks. Room next to us was occupied by teenagers who were loud and disrespectful. Complaints made several times to the front desk. Was awoken at 145 am by the police asking if we were having a party. Breakfast is only served until 930 am

Staff is friendly and helpful. The beds aren't the most comfortable and the breakfast is lukewarm at best and unappealing. Pastries are hard and the hot (minimally warm) food is the same meat every day sausage links. There doesn't seem to be enough hot water in the bathroom. Hotel is a much older unit and needs updating badly. Spa jets do not function properly. Housekeeping personnel are wonderful!

The beds were really comfortable, I slept great. The pool was a good size and the area was clean. Breakfast was really good, the only reason I rated it 4 stars is because the sausage and eggs were cold.

If I could give it half a star I would. Hotel smelled bad. Carpets dirty. Breakfast staff rude. Shower water pressure wasn't even there. Was supposed to be rated a 3 star hotel but no where close to it .

Poor quality of facility which is old and not kept up. Smells like old dirty wet carpet. Mattress old and saggy. Mildew in caulking of bathroom. Furniture old and wood is chipped. Felt like a nursing home that is old. Would not recommend to anyone.

The Clarion has come a long way under the guidance of General Manager Jeffery Hickman. Clean comfortable rooms. Working ice machines. Full vending. Plus tasty food in the grill/dinning room. We stay there every time we travel through Iowa.

Great location, right off the highway yet only a short drive into the heart of town. We needed a decent, affordable place to sleep for the night. Clarion Highlander fit the bill. We were able to enjoy a relaxing night, taking advantage of the pool, and bringing back a pizza from Mellow Mushroom which was a real treat, as they are rare in the midwest. The mini-fridge did a great job of keeping our beers cold. I appreciated the hot breakfast in the morning as well, eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy. The biscuits were especially fluffy. This had all the basics, for a great value and the staff was friendly and attentive.

This place is clean and comfy and quiet IF you get a room that is not poolside. We have been stuck with poolside and I Find the light they keep on all night bothersome. If you are a light sleeper get an outer room. Pool is open from 6am until 11pm.

I got the hotel through Priceline. Had never used it before and doubt I will again. Hotel was run down, parking lot covered in snow and ice. Ice on sidewalk, just about fell. Mold in bathroom, ceiling tile dripping rain all over the hotel. Breakfast food was cold. Heater did not work in our room, so cold all night. I will never stay there again

We were quite satisfied with our stay! Large rooms, comfortable beds, pool, hot tub, and friendly staff. The woman who checked us in last night was sweet. We ordered wings from the restaurant when we arrived and they were seriously delicious! The bartender was friendly and provided great service. The shower in the morning was hot with good pressure and the towels were large and soft. The pool side room was fantastic with blackout curtains. We are very pleased and will stay again and very much recommend!

Go Bison!

Rooms were decent, and free breakfast was good and well-stocked. The place needs some updates... kinda seems like they're just stringing it along. Pool area is fairly meh, but does have a hot tub.

Find another hotel. First clue should of been the parking lot, which was dimly lite, it hadn't been plowed from the snowfall! (from a day or 2 before). 2nd clue was we were checking in and water was dripping from the ceiling over the receptionist who pretended she did not see it! And then the room very dated, smelled of some type of strong cleaner. the bed was lumpy, and had to be very very old. The bed was not comfortable with hair all over the sheets (black like from a lab dog).
The last piece that got us out of there was that we saw bugs running across the bathroom floor during the night ! That was to much.
Stayed on 2/22/19. Reported it to person on duty by depositing bug on counter.

Very old run down outdated. This hotel is literally falling apart. Every part of it is shabby and feels dirty. The hallways carpets ceiling and walls are stained dingy and smells. The room felts very very nasty again old and outdated dingy and smelled. Bathroom had dirt build-up in the corner mirror chipped around all four corners there was calcium buildup in the toilet dirty around the floor of the toilet. The pool area was disgusting. Growl is black and old dirt near the corner and the hot tub was closed down early Saturday night because of feces found in the hot tub and it's still have not been clean by 11 a.m. the next day. The fire alarm was pulled multiple times throughout the night. For never stay here or any choice hotel again.

Great value for the price; they have a deep pool with a hot tub, your ordinary hotel breakfast, and good rooms with warm water. They beds aren't exactly the best for heavy adults, but they're comfortable.

This hotel was just "alright". Not that we had any major complaints or issues, but overall cleanliness and comfort were a little subpar. The jacuzzi was a nice touch and probably the best part, but beds were low and hard and the TV was a bit outdated. Overall, you get what you pay for at this hotel. I would recommend if you're looking for a no-frills hotel for a night.

We rented 2 rooms, both non-smoking with 2 queen size beds. The rooms were clean. The TV did not work in one room. The bathrooms did not have active vents, just passive. One bathroom had mold on the ceiling. The complimentary breakfast had decent options.

No stars. Don t stay here. No hot water all night and when I called the front desk, the agent was super rude and offered NO remedy or apology. Said the whole hotel is out of hot water (I just checked in and he didn t bother to tell me upon check in) Horrible smells in hallway and room- chemicals covering potential mold. Lights out in the parking lot and interior spaces. Badly needs an update. Save yourself the trouble and book elsewhere.

Hadn't expected to stop but the weather had other plans. Rates were more than reasonable, room clean, pool looked nice but we were not prepared lol. Breakfast was good and well maintained. And luckily they realized we'd left behind our infant's nebulizer and contacted us before we even got out of town! Thx
