Excellent. Loved every minute of the Marvel exhibition.
I love this place! It's really good if you want a cultural moment!
Well set out and well staffed. Great cafe reasonably priced
Brilliant exhibition by Patricia PICCININI. Unique, disturbing, intriguing, fascinating & at times bizarre.
Good collection of porfolio from artists around the world, please take your time and observe how they convey their ideas through different media
The Marvel Comic exhibition was totally awesome !!!
Interesting exhibits. Unfortunately the Children Art Centre was closed for refurbishment when I visited.
Attended a venue food was exceptional as was the view from the balcony.
Ive been to many galleries in the world and GOMA is one of the best
Great venue, terrific location, Dini g and bars close by great cafeteria at goma, alot of lefties around though and the bias abc is very close so explains alot.
Beautiful building. Unfortunately I went here during a changeover so there weren't much to see, however they often have amazing pieces in and regularly keeping it fresh.
Worth another visit. Extensive display. Very good cafe.
Only went to see son who works there...that was amazing cause don't see him often as live in different towns
Loved my visit. I have not been there for years. Found the Bistro good as well. Staff in the Galleries and Bistro were fabulous.
I really liked it. There is a variety of expressive pieces and some exhibits which will either impress or shock the patron.
Insteresting for me. If you enjoy looking at arts of any kind, go have a tour.
Not huge, but enough variety to interest anyone for an hour or two. Well laid out, and often have activities for kids as well.
We went and saw the Yayoi Kusama exhibit. It was absolutely fascinating! Free entry. Highly recommended for all ages.
Nice artwork, but the service and sleeping were not. The beds were not easy access and were uncomfortable
Amazing place.
Nice and clean.
Now this is a difficult review. I mean the art at GOMA (Gallery of Modern Art) is constantly changing, so to base my view on that would be foolish. I have attended GOMA probably twice a year for the preceding 4 years (not out of my own desire), so this review is based entirely on the delivery of art and the facilities at GOMA, NOT the "art" itself.
Now I should start with a caveat. I am in no way an art connoisseur nor could I probably tell the difference between the real Mona Lisa and one that has been printed from a $50 Canon printer. However, as a fair dinkum Aussie bloke, I'd like to think I can appreciate talent where talent is present.
The issue with GOMA is that the level of talent in the artwork (if it can be referred to as that) is minimal. Don't get me wrong, there's some beauties in there, but for the general cohort there's a distinct lack of anything there. The last visit literally contained a video of a lady eating a tomato. It wasn't even a fancy tomato!
So onto the actual review... For the distinct lack of any good art in there, GOMA does a brilliant job at presenting that 'art' in a manner that makes you believe you're in that fancy art place in Paris or something (the Louvre?). They have like fancy lights, fancy views outside, people at the entrance that make you remove your bags, people standing around watching you watch the art as though you yourself were a piece of art (which is quite flattering if I'm honest) and it just smells fancy in there. All round it's a solid effort by GOMA.
However, if you really want to see some talent, go to the Queensland Art Gallery (QAG). It's less distance of a walk from the bus and the art can actually be called art! It's incredible! Those fellas have some true talent. The QAG's acronym may be more bogan that GOMA, but unlike GOMA there's no bogan artwork in there.
One of the best art galleries in the world. Make sure to check the second floor small corner gallery space as it often has hidden gems within.
Must visit in Brisbane. Always has something interesting to see. Well maintained and clean. Has something for the kids to do most of the time. Could use free parking, but you can't have everything.
We only came here as it was pouring rain outside but surprisingly there s so much to discover here!!! We ll make sure to visit GOMA more often
This is a great air conditioned museum with friendly staff and very interesting exhibitions
Lovely gallery. Saw the "artist in residence" John Honeywill, nice set up, everyone gathered round his "studio" and asked questions while painting. Very informal, casual way of connecting art and artists. Thanks QAGOMA.
GOMA now a good place to visit at night with the James Turrell facade illumination. Along with State Library, QAG and Performing Arts centre are Brisbane must-visit destinations.
It was a spontaneous idea and we loved it, even though we both were sleepy and tired, it was a lot of fun.
All galleries are great but this is Queensland's pride and joy. A wonderful precinct with world class exhibitions, surrounded by the hub of Brisbane arts and culture and beautiful Southbank with all it offerings .
Great Place to visit (and it's free). It has a great collection of Aboriginal, Australian and International art work.
Some of the exhibits can be pricey, $18pp a tad steep
Current exhibition very underwhelming and not to my interest at all
An international level modern art exhibition space.
I totally loved showing my UK Guest around this wonderful gallery. Knowledgeable and engaging staff added to our enjoyment. The Aboriginal Exhibits were amazing. I felt truly touched by the profound beauty of each painting. Appreciating, exhibiting and celebrating the unique art of Australia makes me proud. My friend who is a designer was enamoured by the colours of Jacaranda. I'm expecting that will be a new addition to her paint range very soon. Inspired by our visit.
This museum is well worth the cost of the flight from Sydney. It makes the MCA look a little ill-considered and sad. Thoughtfully curated with plenty of surprises.
Staffs are awesome, very friendly and helpful, not to mention they have amazing arts!
Was here for a wedding and reception, beautiful venue and nice view overlooking the river.
Always love it here, great space and always good kids exhibitions.
Huge space, great for all the family and fabulous air con !!!
Wish cinemas were constantly exhibiting Australian video installations or the like.
great views!
Wonderfu, but irritating children touch everything and do not know how to behave.
Do not bring your children here!
First time in this art gallery or any gallery but had a wonderful time exploring. It's a great art gallery
Love this art gallery! Visited on my own and it was amazing, but went back and did a tour with Jane which made it a lot better. She was so passionate and really explain so many things about the art that brought a lot more depth to the gallery and art.
GOMA may have become Brisbane's most interesting place to be. Perhaps do not take young children to Ben Quilty but there are a myriad of other exciting exhibits presently showing. Check out GOMA'S 2 wonderful art filled shops, Riverside al fresco cafe and relaxing restaurant.
A lovely place to spend time with family. Exhibits change throughout the year.
Overpriced and disappointing. Paid $70 to take two kids into the Marvel exhibit. We were finished in less than 10 minutes. Should have just gone to the gift shop.
Interesting art gallery. The Picasso collect was on display!
Checked out the Cinematheque for the first time. What a wonderful experience.
Shame on GOMA for choosing to show the work of Donald Friend, a known and self-confessed child sexual abuser and explain it away as behaviour accepted within the arts community.
Incredibly disrespectful and hurtful to anyone who has suffered at the hands of these monsters.
Went for the Water exhibition, stayed for the projections. Really great curators at this gallery, I've always been blown away by the art.
Great gallery with some very interesting exhibitions. Staff helpful and free WiFi.
Can't go wrong with a free museum to get everyone exposed to so many different forms of art.
We went to the Motorcycle exhibition, and it was well layed out, and well worth the visit.
Always something to do with the kids. Arrive 10 minutes before opening on a weekend if you want a park.
