I work security here. Principal has something to offer the every day individual like 801 has two wonderful restaraunts on the 3rd floor. Basils and Main Street. 801 has a popular steak house on the 2nd floor. If you need attorneys for certain issues,801 has it's share of attorneys. Now their are more than one Principal building to choose from such as 711 High Street,corporate 1. This building is considered state of the art after it's 2 year renovation. They cashed out my retirement, couldn't explain why so I told them it was fraudulent activity on my account. They then sent me a notice saying my 401k was cashed out and I'll be taxed on it when I file my income taxes. I once again tell them I never requested the money and they failed to explain their actions again. They still haven't explained their reasoning for closing my account and out right refuse to look into the fraudulent activity, this company lacks the ability to keep money and accounts safe.
A pretty good company. I have several friends who work here and they treat people well. It employs a significant amount of the city and continues to grow. 801 Grand was recently renovated and looks as good as ever, worth stopping by.
This financial institution defrauded me and an investigation for their illegal business practices has been registered and will open within 24 hours. I tried to communicate over the phone how they wronged me and they just kept repeating themselves over and over with a completely unrelated response and said they would not reimburse for anything even though illegally "withheld" my money. Don't come near this place they will screw you over
No matter how badly CHS continues to screw our retirement fund, Principal manages to gently and professionally deliver the message before bending us over.
TAKE YOUR MONEY ELSEWHERE!! During a time of such uncertainty don't expect any compassion or understanding from this company. While other companies are taking steps to help people this one won't budge even when you follow their exact instructions. Make no mistake this company is perfect and will never admit otherwise. Dont ask for help because you won't get it. You will just get the run around and a cut and dry scripted answer everytime. With so many other places to invest YOUR MONEY I would not trust it with them. Once your money is invested with them they treat it like it is theirs.
Class action lawsuit against this company will be coming soon.The 5-star reviews are literally only from people who work there and not from customers. This company is a fraud. I've had my investment account with Principal for almost a decade and have never touched it. It hasn't made a single dime in bull markets nor bear markets. How can my balance be unchanged from April 2013 to April 2020?! They're making tons of money at everyone's expense and not making your IRA a dime. Principal is a complete scam.
FIrst time I called for help with mis-distributed payment Principal I talked to two people who said they couldn't do anything about it and were going to double the distribution processing fee because of my employer and Principal's accounting mistake. I was very disappointed to say the least! I called a week later and the first person I talked to was able to get the second fee waived over a chat. The one fee is still a little high and seems unnecessary though.
This company will give you the run around whenever you try to make a withdrawal. Avoid using them if you expect to have funds in a timely matter. I'm going on 5 months, and every time I call there is a new "reason" they have not processed my withdrawal.

Great Job by Mrs. Ann in the Roth IRA or IRA or financial group - she is quick, sharp, ability to go out of the way to suggest or guide people also... she used to pick the calls early in the mornings - now today - she went out of the way to tell quickly even though it was real late - tiring - it is not easy for people to keep working, talking on the phone, helping all the time.. Great, Outstanding- she is a Great Asset to the Principal Financial group - even though my Yelp notifications are not working -i should not forget to inform or put the real truth, honesty , integrity and ethics- she is highly ethical, honest, good person - very caring, highly talks to the point, objective- very less unnecessary way of doing things - This kind of good work should not go unnoticed, even though she states, there is no worries or replying or so - Please ensure to pass on if there is any other place in the world- Happy to put across anywhere in the world for the goodness even though i am yet to pay off Student loans and keep only selling... nice of them to verify, validity and integrity to ensure all are correct.
This company is a lot like the VA as an institution. They completely have a communication problem, and do not get ANYTHING done until the last minute by at which point you are dead broke and unable to pay for medications etc. Even when they know til what date you will be out, they hold your short term pay hostage until they get an update. They pay you as little as possible and tell you wrong information. As a combat veteran I m appalled at how This company handles its customers financial needs. They also lie to you just to get you off of the phone. I had to vote one star because negative 10 is not an option....
My wife and I have been waiting for over a month for a distribution from Principal which they said would take 6 days. We plan on using the distribution to purchase a house. No one in their call center can help us. We are told different things by each of their representatives. Every time we are told that something has been done it hasn't. Every time we are told that something has been mailed or would be mailed it wasn't. If we can't trust you when we are making one of our most important investments how is someone supposed to trust you with their retirement and life savings?
Can't follow simple instructions. I requested a direct deposit for my withdraw, and got a check with standard mail instead. Thanks for ruining my deadline!
A wonderful location ... the architecture is really very spacious. There is a lot of light throughout the building. The artwork is energizing and unique. A very comfortable and engaging location.
Worst financial institution i have ever dealt with. If you would like your money after investing with this company, I would suggest you go elsewhere. Over 4 months trying to cash out a pension plan, and every week a different excuse. However if you like dealing with stress and aggravation this is definitely the place to invest or lose your money.
