Portillo's Italian beef is the absolute best I know people who leave the state and have it shipped to them honest-to-god Portillo's is amazing and this location happens to be one of the newest and it's just absolutely lovely it completely captures Portillo's feeling of 1970s

Its Portillos.. I'd you haven't been there then you dont know what your missing. There's always a place to sit. Never super crowded but cried enough especially during the lunch hour. Great hotdogs and ribs..
I love portillo's from the time I first discovered them in the 1980s, when I had my first ever a Chicago hot dog. I can send you the love portillo's food always great quality ingredients, fresh and filling. My husband loves portillos chocolate cake for his birthday.
The only menu item I would skip at the Rockford portillo's, is the beef & cheddar croissant. though this is one of my favorite menu items at the other portillo's in the Chicago area the Rockford version is nowhere near as Good. Apparently the employees are not allowed to splash or dip the croissant in juice, they're only allowed to serve the beef juice on the side. This creates a problem for those of us who have to eat in the car between jobs. so the Rockford version of The beef & cheddar croissant is a cold hard croissant stuffed with lukewarm beef an unmelted cheddar. It's such a disappointment I could have cried. I've tried everything in my power to get the employees to splash or dip the croissant as they do it every other portillo's I have ever been to, but unfortunately they tell me the manager does not allow this, because it makes the croissant Fall apart. DUH.... THAT'S WHAT MAKES IT SO GOOD. TOO BAD THE MANAGER DOESN'T UNDERSTAND. SO IN SUMMARY SKIP THE BEEF & CHEDDAR CROISSANT AT THE ROCKFORD LOCATION.
I shall start with the good. They always have a long line wrapped around so i was a little weary if I could get food during my lunch break.. and i absolutely did. They definitely get that line moving fast. Next.An awesome burger. Huge. Filled up the entire clamshell. Best onion rings I've ever had. Hands down. Really hit the spot. Now the bad. Had to try the famous chocolate cake shake. Which was good. But I had a significantly large piece of what I think is eggshell in it? Whatever it is its gross. Didn't expect to bite into something crispy in my shake. Not the best ending to my meal needless to say.
Just got off the phone with one of the male managers who had either a thick Spanish accent or a skewed Indian accent. I simply asked him if he had any job openings available and literally refused to tell me, completely ignored everything I was telling him, and told me to go online and check. I volunteer for an organization to help individuals in need and don't have time to make an entire application simply to find out that a certain restaurant doesn't have any job openings when I have hundreds of people to assist. This was the worst and quite frankly the most obscure customer service experience I have ever had. He also refused to provide me his name. One should always treat others as they would want to be treated. I will be reporting this mans behavior to the higher ups in hopes of preventing anymore disrespectful encounters with others.
Nice variety on the menu. Surprisingly good salads and ribs. If you like chocolate, the chocolate cake is amazing and give the chocolate cake shake a try. It's so good!
Good place to go when in town. Very busy and fast service. Only downside is limited seating when we were there. By this I mean there were plenty of tables just not enough chairs. Had to wait for some to come available which was definitely a trying experience with 5 kids ages 5 1/2 to 2 1/2 and 5 adults. We had called ahead and asked if the size of our party would be an issue to which we got a "not a problem" and then a click of the phone.
This is a restaurant that we like to come to because there are none by us and we love the food. We even grabbed some to go.
I haven't actually ventured to try the foreal Chicago Style Dog, so for me I just had a plain hot dog and a salad. Was just sort of meh for me compared to all the excitement of Portillos. I haven't given up though, as soon as I get the chance to try it again and maybe try to actual Chicago Style dog, I'll try it
The drive thru workers are amazing. The orders are always 100%. I still think their cheese sauce has medicinal qualities cuz its amazing and leaves u feeling all warm and wonderful. U can't go wrong eating at portillos.
Pretty good sandwich. Need to have a menu to look at before getting to the order counter. There are different pickup points for the main order, the salads, and desserts. A little expensive for the type of food.
Everyone always makes a big deal about this restaurant and I don't see why. I do like how it feels like it's nostalgic. However the food is expensive in my opinion.
You can really tell since new ownership has took over the quality of the food and portions have gotten smaller the big beef now has about the same amount of beef as the regular on and the large fries ard the size of a small order it's ashamed to ruin a staple of a name like portillos I knew this would happen once the company was sold they have almost doubled in size in the last few years I will not return very dissatisfied former customer
I'm not a fan of hot dogs to begin with, or much of their food, but they have the best strawberry shortcake I've ever had, which makes the trip here worth it. Their staff is very friendly as well.
We arrived at 6 and out our order in quickly. We stood in line for our food for over 40 minutes. The staff behind the counter were standing around. There was no explanation for why it was taking so long. People who arrived after us were getting their food before we did. Finally after speaking with the manager we got our food and drinks. The food was cold the drinks had no ice. When I went back up to get ice the kid said the ice machine was broken only to have a different kid come up behind him with a bucket of ice. Horrible service and less than mediocre food. We won't be back.
