just an absolutely incredible Zoo. I've been to quite a few others, even other unique ones (such as Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado Springs) and the PGH Zoo stands right up with the most incredible zoos I've been to. My two year old daughter could probably live there and I really appreciate that there is an aquarium on site as well. What stands out to me might be kind of silly, but the gardeners do such an amazing job using native flora but making the whole zoo feel like a tropical jungle. This has the effect of taking some of the magic of the zoo with you when you leave and an irresistible desire to come back!

A great deal of spacies to be seen and warmhearted staff!
But google map gave us a wrong navigate, so we found the wrong gate and walked a longlong way!
Noted that the gate is at the westnorthern corner!

We went on the free week they had on the week of thanksgiving. It was amazing, the animals were active and apparently I went here as a kid but I dont remember any of it. Definitely will go again when all the animals are out for the warmer months

Very clean and lots of options for food. Great exhibits and plenty of animals to see! There definitely needs to be more signs, because we never really knew where we were going unless we were looking at the map.

Always have loved this zoo. A gem in the city. Went today as they did a free promo week! Nice to get in for free. My son loved it and it was nice to see it during a different time of the year.

My family and I arrived around 10am to get an early start. Parking is a short walk from the actual zoo. The escalator leading into the park was broken on one side so it was kind of a task to get out of the zoo as we had to wait on the elevator. Be advised it is a LOT of walking and many hills so wear comfortable shoes and bring water. The drinks and food here are very expensive so I would suggest packing a lunch. I enjoyed most of the zoo. Some of the animals weren t even in their enclosures or couldn t be seen because they were asleep or hiding. Most of the animals were enclosed by a water barrier or a small fence. At times I felt that the animals could easily escape. The aquarium was less than desirable. It was small and very crowded. There was also a dinosaur exhibit that costed extra to get in and a kids area with a playground. Overall, we had a good time and I would go back again.

Spent an entire day here. Enjoyed the sea lion presentation. A lot of times in zoos the animals are hard or impossible to find. We saw every animal but 1. And we saw the 2 month old clouded leopard cubs!

I've been to this zoo several times. It's nice to be able to walk around and see the different animals. I love the elephant house. There are also a number of different places to eat with multiple vegetarian options. The last time I went was on a free zoo day and it was crazy busy!! I've enjoyed all of my trips there and appreciated the giant escalators.

Lack of signs... My family came all the way from Orlando... Everything outside the buildings was closed, no employees or perssonel to provide assistance. We made it on time to the park for Penguin on Parade... but we get lost trying to get to the aquarium so we miss it. At least they refund the money for all the family members. Lots of visitors leave with us in less than 30m-1h... I guess it would be nice to visit at summer.

The Pittsburgh Zoo is a fun and wonderful day trip. Took my two grandsons and had a blast! All of the animals are in their natural habitats. We were able to see them all as they wondered around, interacted with each other and ate. The boys really loved it! The aquarium and aquatic part of the zoo has a vast variety of fish, corals and other sea life. Love, love the penguins!!!

Reasonable pricing, all the exhibits were cool. Due to COVID-19, zip-lining was unavailable. One of the best Zoo I ve ever been too thus far very well kept and clean vast range of diverse exhibits. Note: tons of walking/mini hills, air mist available and the food was decent. I enjoyed all the animals, they are active. Half Zoo/half Aquarium. Love it, worth the trip!

It seems that each time we go to the zoo it gets better. The animals look great and their areas are really nice. We also liked the food. The plants and flowers throughout the zoo and aquarium are beautiful.

Very nice zoo to visit. Pittsburgh in blessed to have it. They have made multiple improvements and additions over the years and it has become a very impressive zoo. We always enjoy a day here.

The main attraction is a Tiger and other animals, staff is cooperative, walking path is easy and self guided. Admission fees is affordable.Mini aquarium is also present withing a zoo. Plenty of parking is available

We weren't too sure what kind of protocols to expect due to Covid, however, everything was being done as it should be. It seemed that most patrons were complying to the mask rule, unless they were outside and no one was within 6 feet. The sizes of the animal enclosures had me in awe. In a GREAT way. The park was very clean. Very spread out, so there is A LOT of walking, which was fine by me. I, honestly, was extremely impressed with this zoo.

Usually I love the zoo, but was disappointed today. African safari exhibits were over grown and not taken care of. Water"s edge exhibits were in disrepair and had heavy algae in several tanks. The islands, which are the newer section, seemed well taken care of. Kids Kingdom also had a few things in disrepair. We still enjoyed looking at the animals and did have a good time, but things were definitely not as nice as they have been in past years.

Absolutely love this zoo. People don't realize it, but the best time to go to the zoo is when it's cooler out; the animals are more active. Of course when the cooler temps come, certain animals can't be out so you do miss that... But it's a huge bonus that 2 of the 3 times I've gone the tigers have been up and moving around, same for the adorable red panda's. The aquarium is incredible too.

Nice and variable collection of different animals

Nice and variable collection of different animals
Trails were sort of rough for the cart at some points in terms of incline and decline, but manged to go through them and most of the track is very reasonable
Shaded areas and cooling stations, which were nice in the hot weather
Some indoor and out door exisibits which gave us a break
Over all it is a nice zoo and we enjoyed the trip, strongly recommend

I'm from Pittsburgh but residing in Vegas. My daughter has never been to a proper zoo so I was extremely excited that she was able to experience up close, our beautiful nature and the animals that make up for the nonexistent ones in Nevada ...what a grand time!

We enjoyed the layout and easy access to all of the exhibits. We felt immersed in each of the animals habitats. Its cleanliness and friendly staff added to our visit in the most positive way

love love the zoo... I've been to a few zoo's, this one seems to have more than most and it's big. about 2 hours will get you through here walking with just seeing the animals/exhibits but add some time to spend in the gift shops and there is a petting zoo. also stopping to eat is generally a must!!

Zoo has a really nice set up and lots of room. A great variety of animals. The aquarium is not the biggest but they did a great job displaying all different kinds of freshwater and saltwater. Some of the animals you can actually feed and take pictures with for a price they have info on there website about that. The zoo is also kid friendly with lots of things for young ones to do if mom and dad need a rest.

The Zoo was so much fun! I loved how it was quite literally carved out of the mountain. The Park was well laid out and easy to navigate. It was a decent amount of uphill walking the 1st half, but once everyone is tired, the 2nd half is all back downhill. The Aquarium was awesome as well. We will be back next time we are in the area!

Good zoo that I've gone to for years, only giving 4 stars for 2 reasons. 1st whenever you buy icecream its hollow, like a shell of icecream. 2nd my girlfriend saw a dead fish and she got really sad so she wanted me to give it a 4 star review, but I'd give it a 4.5.

So much fun for people of almost any age. It's a shame they no longer have the bears of painted dogs, but the new Islands attraction has great animals such as gators, warthogs, monkeys, and a clouded leopard which is absolutely beautiful.

I love going to the zoo! Just seeing the animals makes me so happy. My favorite is the aquarium from the seahorses, to the Penguins and the sharks! My favorite animals are the turtles and the hippos. The flowers are beautiful! Also the new dino exhibit was really awesome to see and learn about the dinosaurs. Love going to the zoo please keep up the great job!

This is a great zoo compared to others. Lots of hills, walking and exhibits. Lots of indoor ones if you get caught in the rain. The reason I gave it 3 stars is because the cages are quite small for some of the animal families. For example: the gorillas & elephants.

Pittsburgh Zoo is always a well-loved favorite for the summer. I have been there twice this year and have enjoyed it very much Everytime. The animals are absolutely beautiful and wonderful to watch and you can tell that the zookeepers maintain them fantastically. I highly reccomend this zoo as an outing for the family!

Awesome place... get ready to walk a LOT though. Not good to go when it's above 85 degrees. Mostly everything is outdoors, except for the aquarium. The aquarium is not huge, but a nice size and you can get really close to the sea life there. The gift shops are really cute, they aren't astronomically priced, but they aren't cheap either. They have souvenir stuffed animals that they offer for two for 32 dollars, which is nice if you have small children. Food and drinks is offered throughout the zoo and is moderately priced as well. The zoo and aquarium is very reasonably priced at 16 dollars for an adult ticket. There are many different rare animals in their zoo, that some even can only be found in captivity in this location. They tend to wounded and sick animals as well, and offer advice to help with conservation efforts. This is really important to myself and a lot of people, that animals are well taken care of and not pulled from their natural environment for entertainment purposes. They also offer different experiences, like getting close to a red panda on certain dates. You can find the dates and prices on their website. I will definitely be visiting again! But this time, with better shoes and not in the middle of a July heat wave.

Absolutely beautiful place the aquarium is lovely as well and quite a decent size considering its apart of the zoo. The Cleveland aquarium is smaller than this. The Pittsburgh zoo and aquarium is a wonderful place to spend the day there is alot to see and do no matter which direction you come from! Definitely worth a trip. And truthfully the price of admission is not bad even for non members. I've heard rumors that memberships to other zoos may give you a discount BUT not really sure.

This is a great zoo and certainly one of the best I ve been to in the US. The place is well-designed and organized to prevent you from feeling like you re being herded through the space. There are subtle branches that allow you to veer off and take alternative pathways through the zoo. The environments are also well-designed and appear more natural than most other zoos I ve visited. This zoo seems genuinely concerned with issues of sustainability and conservation as evidenced from various signage and instruments of green technology dotted throughout the zoo. The new fit path at the entrance is also a nice touch encouraging visitors to exercise while creating a more naturalistic start to the zoo experience. This zoo really has tried to make the place more interactive over the years we ve been visiting. I am saddened to see the old brown bear den converted into the Beer Den, but I suppose these are the kinds of touches modern audiences desire.

The PPG Aquarium is world class and rivals the one in Baltimore as my all-time favorite. There is an amazing diversity of aquatic life on display here.

The Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium are must sees in the area.

The zoo is handling COVID safety very seriously. There are sanitizing stations all over and distance reminders also. The zoo was very busy on a Saturday, with more people than I could imagine through the gates. If you buy tickets online, you still have to stand in the ticket line to get in, there is not a separate line for people who thought ahead. Also, the sheer mass of people will force you through at record speeds. Online the website said it would take 4-5 hours to see the whole thing and it took us less than 2 because of the crowd.

Wide range of animals and tons of information on them. A great place to go to learn about various animals around the world and even greater if you have children. Had a lot of fun there.

BONUS: Military members and veterans enter for free and get a discount in the gift shops.

Lovely zoo that has a lot of exhibits for families, groups, couples, etc. There's the Kids Kingdom, geared for children, that has a cafe, and play area. The walk around the zoo is time consuming, but in a great way! It's well worth the price and the aquarium is the added bonus that comes with general admission. Plenty of food and drinks to choose, and lots of animals to see!

Love my zoo visit every year. Sad one of the Male lions just passed this summer but there is a baby gorilla whom is so adorable. In the winter they have a few free days while some animals aren't out most are and they get close so close and so awesome. They even do a penguin parade how awesome is that?

Never been to a zoo before (and I'm in my 30s ) but I loved Pittsburgh Zoo and Aquarium! Only regret is going sooner when the weather want as cold so I could see more animals before they "hibernated"
The check in guy was down to earth, funny and friendly. Joking around with us. Def a great experience

I love the way this zoo was laid out! The natural habitats they created for their animals was heartwarming. You could truly see the love and care they have for them. The animals seemed so happy and were so playful. It was too cute! Their polar bear stole the show with his antics.

The zoo is so much fun! I love animals so I enjoyed my time there. Only problem is pricing... tickets aren't cheap. There are group rates and military discount. The best time to come is during the summer.

I've always loved zoos and aquariums. The aquarium was beautiful.I was disappointed with the looks and maintenance of the zoo. Exhibits were closed and it it just felt so Blah . I guess I expected more from Pittsburgh being a big beautiful city.

2 exhibits we would like to have seen were closed, and the kids play area was closed as well. The petting zoo was view-only, which was disappointing. But the kids had a great time at the aquarium and the touch area. Overall while some exhibits were closed, this was a good way to burn 2 hours with the kids

It was a nuce day at the zoo. A lot of things were closed. No lions. Also no polar bears. We were disappointed the zip line was closed. Not sure why since that isn't a group activity so its easy to distance from others.

The landscaping was awful for starters. At least half the staff nearly friendly. If you don't mind walking hills it's not bad then. The eating area is kinda small. The aquarium area needs way better ventilation. The elephant exhibit was pretty cool. The prices were pretty reasonable.

A fantastic place to visit. Parking is free and ample. Arrive early to get opportunity to meet and greet some animals. Bring a bottle to refill with water. Several places to get drinks or food but may be a bit pricey. Overall a must visit.

I love the zoo! I haven t been here in ages and things have changed so much. The exhibits have really progressed. The admission price is also very reasonable. I will definitely go back. It s a lot of walking, but they have options for people who can t walk well.

Me and my wife came here while visiting Pittsburgh. For only about $18 a person we weren't really expecting all that much. But we were blown away at the variety of animals and beauty of the place. We spent 2 1/2 hours and enjoyed every minute. The lion exhibit is being updated so couldnt see them but there was plenty more to see. The penguins were cute and the polar bear was awesome. Definitely recommend for anyone near by. Definitely worth the money.
