Wonderful zoo and aquarium which covers all the animals, birds, reptiles and sea lives. You can spend a whole day in this place visiting the animals from all over the world. It is wonderful to see all of them together in one place. I still carry those wonderful memories even after 5 years. Kids will definitely enjoy the time here also this place is closed in the winter.

There's not as many animals as there use to be but it's still a great place to take the kids (all ages). I suggest you purchase the souvenir cup b/c the refills are only $.99, it's worth the purchase!

Was surprised by how much this zoo had to offer. Wanted to get away with the kids and randomly chose Pittsburgh. Good decision, will be back when new attractions open and all the other sites are reopened because of covid. Excellent place to visit!

I was saddened to learn there was construction going on at the park. I hope the new exhibits are going to turn out well. I was also displeased to see others discarded trash in the waters approaching the giraffes. (Don't forget to feed the fish.) Although you do not get much food for a quarter. The prices are fair and the zoo this day was not too many people here which made it really enjoyable. And for having to wear a mask outdoors, it was not too bad.

Can't say enough good things about this zoo! A great experience for anyone who lives animals in captivity. Staff truly love the animals and live events happen throughout the day. Love the new additions as we have been going now for many years and we will continue to look forward to our trips. Go Steelers!

Animals didn't seem to be too active. Not much interaction with animals either. Several animals were not there. The zoo's around New York (my hometown) let's you feed several animals. The polor bear wasn't out due to the heat which I understand, however build something where guest can see them through glass or something when they are inside. Wasn't happy how the website states 10% military discount and that didn't happen either. My husband was able to get in free but I didn't get a discount. We traveled 7 hours just to go to this zoo and was terribly disappointed! Never again!

I always recommend this zoo because it s smaller and very doable in one morning. It allows to see animals while they sleep or play and it s mostly outdoors. The chimps and aquarium have an indoor building. The train feature is a life saver. My kids were moody that day and decided they did not want to finish seeing the animals and the train took us to the exit. I recommend this zoo. I was a bit disappointed of seeing a lot of white claw and maybe beer stands this year. Not sure how beer and aa children s activity mix. I d rather have no beer. Bring your own food since the consignment shops are very expensive. I bought my kids 2 beverages and one water and I paid over 15 dollars.

I very much enjoyed my trip out here. The animals are varied, the equipment clean, the aquarium nice. It's not the biggest one around, but its pleasant, its cheap, its entertaining. If I didn't live a full eight hour drive away with a mountain range in between them and myself I'm sure I'd visit again.

Baby Rhino born in April (2017), soooooooo cute! I love this zoo. Keepers are amazing, animals are very well cared for. In the winter, they take the penguins out for a march every Saturday and Sunday, as along as it's cold enough. The aquarium is awesome, with fun exhibits inside and the polar bears outside. They're putting in new marine exhibits where the sharks used to be. And be sure to check out the new sections at the top of the hill - the Islands (opened in 2016) and the Jungle, opening this year.

If your looking for a place to tour Pittsburgh, or just take your family out on a fun learning day, this place has it all. Everything from gorillas, lion, etc. The kids place is awesome. My all time favorite is hands down the aquarium. And the penguin's.

I love the zoo and visit often.

Please do something about the absurd plastic containers that are used for cotton candy. This is completely at odds with your mission of conservation.

It's a good zoo for sure. You get to see most of the animals up close unlike some other zoos we been to. They have a good selection of animals and the Aquarium isn't too shabby either. One of my favorite zoos to go to now.

The zoo is a fantastic spot to visit, with such a good variety of animals and exhibits that I wouldn't try to hit it all in one day. It is pretty hilly, though, and water fountains can be scarce, so it can be tough to stay hydrated and difficult for less mobile folks to navigate.

I really liked it. The way the pens were built into nature was pleasing.
I was disappointed with no polar bears and lions though. I wanted to see them the most.
The reflections on the plexiglass barriers were a nuisance.

We had a great time! The kids enjoyed seeing all the animals close up! We had our dog (who is my husband's service animal), and because of him, all the animals wanted to come close to the glass or fence. He made good friends with the male tiger too!

New to area and wife took me for day off. Lots of interesting animals. Though a few exhibits were empty, or closed. They are expanding the zoo, and remodeling exhibits. Still plenty to see and get up close to even during the pandemic. Great place for family and kids.

We had a great time at this zoo. Coming from Chicago, I had expected a much more expensive experience at the zoo. But was delightfully surprised to find that the parking is free and the ticket prices are totally reasonable. The place is laid out quite nicely that keeps the group flowing. The landscaping is excellent and it truly almost feels like a jungle at times.

Hadn't been in years. Staff pleasant and informative. Extremely hot , day of my visit. Indoor exhibits, intermittent misting arbors and shaded walk ways gave good relief from direct sun. Would like to have had shuttle to parking lots. Like you have inside the zoo. After a long day of zip lining, watching animals, eating and walking . Overall great day. Would recommend to family and friends

Drove up for a day trip from WV and was well worth the drive. Son had a great time looking at all of the animals.

Something that this zoo does right is allowing a close interaction with the animals. An example being the tigers... It's literally you and them and and a sheet of glad between you - AWESOME!!!

My son's favorite exhibit was the Sea Lions tunnel. We were probably in there for 20 minutes or so. So graceful...

Again, all and all a great facility.

Wonderfully walkable zoo with aquarium. Diverse animals to view and opportunities to interact. A bit hilly so consider the tram in the summer if you have mobility-challenged family members. Make sure to check the schedule for penguin promenade and giraffe experiences!

I absolutely love the zoo. It's always clean and everyone there is always so nice and helpful. I can not stand the prices of food (38 bucks for a pizza?) But I guess that's just par for the course when you have a captive audience and can get away with gouging. But even considering that I still give it 5 stars because they deserve it. It is a wonderful experience especially if you have children.

My family and I had an amazing time! There were a few exhibits that were closed and we were disappointed to see that the glass hadn t really been maintained and trash in some of the exhibits, even behind the glass. But the experience was still really cool. The hippo was something we d never got to see so close at other zoos and there were a lot of cool features around the park. I think Covid-19 just kinda dampened some of the other cool things not being offered at this time.

Absolutely fun!! So much to see we didn't make it all in one day with 5 kiddos in tow. The aquarium's are very cool! We rented a stroller type deal & that helped. Packing food wood be ideal as was super expensive but it was delicious.

My son has down syndrome I love to watch how excited he gets to see animals he will never get to see anywhere else. He loves to go there and identify the animals. Easy parking the escalator is a favorite of my son as well. There is food and drinks and rides for the kids. There are special events on certain days and is handicap accessible.

I went to this zoo & aquarium with my wife and my youngest daughters in the summer time. It was a nice experience. There are a great variety of animals and sea life to see. The parking lot is free and the tickets are really affordable. You can find a couple of restaurants inside. Plus: there is a little dinosaur park too!

I liked this zoo a lot. Not so big you can t conquer it all in one day, while still having a large collection of animals. I also like their attention to detail in several areas making the environment feel more immersive.

It has been almost 10 years since we have last been to the Zoo the changes that they have made can only be described as amazing.

The zoo is all hill and it always seems that you are going up. Please keep this in mind if you have young children or are elderly, the zoo has a tram that is about $2.00 for the day (purchase at ticket booth) in my opinion it is well worth it.

The zoo is broken up into 9 different areas:
THE VILLAGE (entrance off escalator)
1) Forest Passage
2) African Savannah
3) Tropical Forest
SAFARI PLAZA (small eating area, rest area, restrooms located here) (with a 2 year old it took us 1 hour 30 min to reach this location (he wanted to walk))
4) The Islands (Animal Care Center is located here)
5) Jungle Odyssey (Zipline is located here $10.00 a person - MUST be under 250 pounds)
The bear habitats that used to be along the walk walk to the aquarium are now gone
6) PPG Aquarium (stingray touch zone, penguins, and a blue lobster) (gift shop, restrooms)
7) Waters Edge (polar bears, sea lions, under water viewing area)
8) Kids Kingdom
9) Worlds of Discovery

As of July 2019 prices for admission are as follows
Adult $17.95
Seniors 60+ $16.95
Child (2-13) $15.95
Under 24 months FREE
Parking is FREE

The zoo also offers memberships which are renewed yearly (picture for prices (again 2019 price)

The zoo has a no smoking or tobacco policy which is awesome, however either they do not enforce it or they do not care as we saw lots of people smoking (not e-cigarettes or vape pens, actual cigarettes)

Overall it was a great adventure for the family one that we will be doing again.

Pros:
Wear royal blue (handlers/ feeders wore this color)
Bring snacks and drinks especially if you have young kids)
Make a day of it plan your visit

Cons:
All uphill wear good tennis shoes

This is a tremendous zoo. It isn't overly large so if you only have a couple hours you can see pretty much everything. They have all the major animals are have really improved some of the exhibits in the past 10 years. There is a great kids area work a playground and petting zoo. The aquarium in great. In the winter they let the penguins march outside and you can get right next to them. It's really fun! Check the zoo website for details.

The zoo is clean and there is a lot of information about the animals, for all ages. They also offer hands on animal experiences - i have fed and had my picture taken with a giraffe and elephant so far.
I cannot give 5 stars bc the zoo closes very early each day and the animal experiences i mentioned are unplanned and not advertised so it is a hit -or- miss thing.
Also the zoo requires a lot of walking - this includes hills, etc, so be ready!

Great place to visit for the whole family. Kids will specially enjoy the petting zone and how close the viewing areas are from the animals. Arrive early to enjoy a cool stroll and avoid the heat. Restrooms are very well kept and restaurants have a variety of food for snacking.

Overall a very good experience with a variety of animals to see from all over the world.

Great place. Nice environments for the animals -- they really seem to care about them. There is a decent variety of animals for the size of the place, and plenty of information on signs about what you see. The aquarium is great. Sometimes they have cuttlefish, which are pretty cool to watch. They have an octopus that is always hiding, but occasionally you can see him move. All in all, a wonderful experience!

Not COVID safe. If I had a dollar for every adult I saw not wearing a mask properly, I could pay entrance fees for family of four. Unfortunately, the zoo seems to have little interest in encouraging or enforcing safe practices among guests.

We went to see the Penguins on Parade and it was a good experience for the kids. We were able to get close and the staff were kind to make sure that visitors took turns to be in the front. With the cold weather it was also an opportunity to see some of the other animals more active than in the summer. The only downside is that a lot of animals were off exhibit because of the weather but with it being February that was expected.

I always have an amazing time at the zoo. The elephant baths are enjoyable to watch and a must see on your visit. The animals are out more if you attend in the morning when it's cooler and parking was fairly open. The zoo is always having deals on tickets and group events and we got our tickets discounted and we spent four hours so we definitely got our money's worth. They also added a zip line which is short but definitely worth the money for the experience. Staff is very friendly and helpful so don't be afraid to ask if needed.

This Zoo is great, has a large variety of animals for the kids to watch. There is an app that has a map that helps navigate the park and interact with some of the displays. There is a trolley that carries those I need of or wanting to ride to specific locations of the zoo so that you don't have to walk through the whole zoo if you don't want. This Zoo has a lot of great animals and amenities.

Best zoo I've been to by far, the prices are fare and the employees are nice. The exhibits are very nice and the animals seem happy. The layout of the zoo is great. Take one path and see all the animals and you dont get confused. Fun for the whole family.
