Great cafe, shop is very good too , not overpriced, butcher is excellent.
Fantastic Day out lovely staff value for money great for Adults and Children
Always a great day out, that extra bit special when Thomas is there, great fun for all ages, Great combined price for all attractions. Good cafe, reasonably priced, souvenier shop for gifts for all the family
Excellent service and helpful staff, the trains and carriages bring back wonderful memories of my childhood. The views of the South Devon county side are brilliant. Well done.
Amazing railway, Sad news about the vandels but please get back up
Fabulous fun breakfast meet of the Devon Vintage Car Club at Dartmoor Lodge. Very good buffet breakfast. Very welcoming staff. Lots of parking and easy access just off the A38.
Really absorbing. The all-day ticket is excellent value. Great walks around Staverton make this beautiful small station well worth spending time at. Very friendly and helpful volunteer staff create a marvellous atmosphere, not to mention the train and rolling stock.
Fantastic day out, easily enough to do for a very full day out, beautifully kept stations and very scenic route to enjoy. Definitely recommend a joint ticket to see the butterflies and otters!
There was more here to look at than i thought a great morning out watching the steam trains and a visit to the adjoining butterfly and otter centre
Fantastic attraction for young or old. Restaurant very good. Lots to see.
Top preserved railway. Beautiful countryside and friendly staff.
Wonderful memories made with the kids amazing views and journey
Very good, went on the railway, but unfortunately the steam train was out of order, but still very enjoyable.
Love this place only complaint is that it's a bit expensive , great train ride though
Wonderful steam railway travelling through beautiful South Devon Scenery
Kids loved this and, if you end up in Totnes, then combine with a visit to the rare breeds farm. They sometimes bring the owls out to tempt you in. The train journey isn t particularly cheap but it is a charity and presumably this service wouldn t happen without all the volunteers, so a worthwhile trip to support local tourism.
We had a fabulous trip. Great on-board breakfast in the buffet car. Wonderful service. We loved it.
Excellent day out.
My son loved it
Done a train driver and fireman experience day here a couple of weeks ago.
Great bunch of lads to help you along to do as much or as little on the day as you like!!
Don't expect to come away clean, though! !
Lloyd
Due to covid no trains but still a great morning going on the mini train and walking around the station
Great railway friendly staff a very scenic railway well worth a visit
Nostalgic,Interesting Station and Venue.Shop with an array of 00 Guage Models-Bachmann,Hornby,Peco etc.Books and Information ,Maps etc.Museum is small on the Station Platform but interesting.Staff are very polite and informative.Tickets are available to a few destinations on the South Coast.WheelChair access is very good.
Very authentic, a beautiful journey. Be aware of the distance to Totnes at the other end. All the consecutive signs say half a mile.
The railway offers one of the best ways to see the local countryside . You see things you would never see from a car or even walking. It was a really hot day so a walk round the 1940s fair was a treat
Fun day out for the family. Like stepping back in time.
I had a glorious steam train journey @SDR I loved every minute of it! Awesome train crew too, they were extremely friendly and helpful. Go check it out!! You'll love it there!!
This is a great day out especially if you add the otter centre and butterfly farm. We've been 3 times now with kids from 3-15 and they have really enjoyed it.
Fantastic day with our family.Everyone loved the experience.
A great day out with lots to see and do. With the train ride from Buckfastleigh to Totnes. The otters and butterflies. The rare breads and the train yard and river walk.
Lovely scenery and great station facilities. If you get a chance visit Totnes its a picturesque town with good pubs like Albert inn that brew their own ale, local shops and a steam boat service on the river Dart
If you are a steam fan this will tick all your boxes and more !...you may even get as much fun out of your visit as the volunteers obviously do that run it.....steam trains running around shunting to the middle of nowhere when the passenger trains are out the station.
Huge car park and a field as back up if it gets full. Great restaurant with a good menu of down to earth meals at realistic prices.
They stock a local ice cream made with Devon full cream milk, the children couldn't get enough of it.
There is a very interesting museum and boot fair prices on old books, magazines and DVD,s.the gift shop has a vast range of different gauge model railways and all the track and buildings enthusiasts need for their hobby.
Lovely day out. Great model shop at Buckfastleigh along with a cafe which does a mean pasty and chips.
, didn't enjoy our family experience at Christmas the Polar Express was like going to Plymouth and back
Good for kids AND adults. Not a cheap day out but something that memories are made of. We combined our trip with a visit to the Rare Breeds Centre adjacent to Totnes Riverside Stn.
Atmospheric old steam trains & vintage carriages. Good food & drink selection in buffet (sensibly priced ). Cozy pretty waiting room, free museum to ticket holders. Large Car park. Views from train are gorgeous, alongside the river. Grounds & gardens are pretty & well kept. Beautiful riverside walk. Small gauge railway too. Big bookshop separate. Extra price to also visit the other & butterfly exhibit of you want to buy a combined ticket.
A fun trip, and entry to the adjacent otter sanctuary is a nice bonus.
Lovely gentle ride through the Devon countryside to Dartmouth
Great historic railway with lots to see either end.
Quick trip to the cafe with Grandad and model shop. Reasonable prices, quick and easy, good service, friendly staff
While the steam train, carries and station are nice and the journey green and pleasant. There isn't a huge amount to do.
Great day out with Thomas my two children loved it.
Great family day out. Enjoy the steam train journey to Totnes. Take in the rare breeds farm aswell as a walk into historic Totnes. Return train journey back to Buckfastleigh.
Had a great day with my grandson. Staff are happy and helpful. Prices reasonable. Plenty of trains and nice cafe at Buckfastleigh
Santa by steam today was great. Been for the last few years and this was the best we have experienced. Also enjoyed the grown up 'Rails and Ales' in the summer!
This is an interesting place to go as it got history and lovey food and you can just watch the train from the station
Great trip back in time experience and staffed by real gentlemen!
The SDR is an excellent, lovely heritage line and a great day out for families and enthusiasts alike.
The staff and volunteers are some of the nicest people you could meet with a genuine love for the line. There is a great cafe and the loo's are spotless, there are beautiful gardens and miniature garden railway, a gift and model shop.
The SDR policy regarding disabled folk is very helpful allowing as much access as possible to trains with friendly staff happy to assist if required.
All in all a brilliant venue offering amazing value for a great day out and i highly recommend the South Devon Railway for all the above reasons.
Only good on raining day well if you want spend lost of cash for 3 stops !!! Joke
Really nice day out. Great railway and we also enjoyed both the animal farm and Otters. Ideal for a family, something for everyone. Amazing model shop too.
