FAILED AUTO-LOCK SYSTEM
FAILED AUTO-LOCK SYSTEM
STOLEN CASH
BAD EXPERIENCE
I was a guest at room 227 at Park Plaza Vondel Park in Amsterdam during 20th - 23th September where I had almost a great experience.
On our last night at the hotel (22nd September) we had left our room for dinner (between 7pm-1am) and came back to the hotel, only to discover that some of our cash had been missing from our wallets in the guest room. My roommate and I were assisted by the manager in charge (Marchel) on Friday morning prior to our departure. Based on the initial investigations by the hotel Manager (Marchel) and a Security Manager (Hamid), although the guest room door shut, the auto-lock system did not function properly, which had led to further investigations by other hotel staff members.
Even though we received other 4-star services, we did not feel safe after realising someone had infiltrated into our room, and gone through our suitcases.
I had been in touch with the manager in charge, Marchel Meeues, and the hotel manager, Maaike Slok since, regarding the investigation to obtain further information on the updates of the incidents, and report from the hotel so that I could proceed with the insurance claims although, did not receive sufficient information, nor proper assistance. I even email the Operational Manager but received no response.
I fully understand that the room safe is provided and strongly recommended for us to store our valuable belongings, but for me, this is a different story. I learned that by the time we left our room that night, there should be none of any hotel staff that has the rights to enter our room, as cleaning and checking was already done in the afternoon. In fact, there should be no one else but us who can enter room 227. However, someone managed to break into our room and stole all of our cash.
I would like to point out that this incident is not about our reckless acts, it is about the security that the four-star hotel should provide to the guests. I can confirm you again that we are more than certain that the door was shut completely and supposed to be locked, .....but it did not. Again, the security manager (Mr. Hamid) was there to test the door himself and he witnessed the same thing we did.
I am highly appreciated with the offer ( 200) of a free night stay and refund, however, what my friend and I have lost was 600 and another 300 cash.
In fact, the lost was more than that as I have to deal with international transactions in order to continue with my trip to Iceland in the very next morning but I want to fix it at 600 as I think it is the way to show my honesty. Not to mention about how devastated we felt due to the incident as, for me, this could be a life-threatening incident.
I had hoped that the staff members of the hotel would have taken greater care regarding the safety concerns raised by their guests.
Given the nature of the actions undertaken by the staff members at the hotel, I would hesitate to recommend to stay at this hotel in the future.
