For Cuba one of the better hotels - I'll count + and - on:
POSITIVE: beautiful, well-kept area; Service-ready and almost without exception friendly staff. Rooms, toilets and pool quite clean, good (quiet) air conditioning in the room, breakfast can be ordered free of charge in the room, WiFi in the lobby and some other places available (~ 1 euro / hour), several good bars and above all: for Caribbean Conditions nicer and rel. empty, long beach. Thanks to the honest staff, we once forgot to close the room safe - they left the room immediately and alerted us.
NEGATIVE: What bothered us the most: always very loud sound reinforcement with music (events sometimes until midnight with deafening noise, loud music on the beach, by the pool ...) - extremely annoying. Why do you usually book an adults-only hotel? Because you want peace and quiet. We know that there were a lot of people there who didn't feel like partying.
Otherwise: The buffet restaurant is glazed and air-conditioned, so it is very loud. There are 4 cooking stations: fish, meat, pasta / pizza and various (e.g. hamburgers, whole fish ...) always bread, cheese (only sliced cheese and Bluemaster) and sausage / ham as well as Cuban salads and various cakes as well as 2-3 Types of ice cream.
The 5 themed restaurants (including when making a reservation) are okay, but the menu is very narrow. Even if you try hard, the Cuban economy of shortage unfortunately runs through the entire food. The coffee is scary, there is only salted butter (terrible), no dark bread, sometimes very bad meat ... If you don't like fish, it's hard. Strangely enough, teaspoons are also in short supply and are not on the table. Unfortunately, all the fruit is cut up and placed on the buffet (I prefer to stick to "peel it or forget it").
The prices in the spa are adventurous and the associated voucher system, which is supposed to reduce them, is completely silly. The daily entertainment programs are sport and music / dance oriented, otherwise poor. One could also offer slide lectures in the evening about the country and its people, information about the sea, about cigars and rum, dominoes, bingo ... so something quiet was missing. After all, there was a beautifully decorated World Cup center with proper broadcasts during the World Cup.
Conclusion: You try hard, but it's Cuba. There is not much that can be turned off, but the loud music could be. So if you are looking for peace and quiet, you are wrong in this hotel. The expensive Royal area doesn't change that either. You still have a few privileges, but they can't conjure up any other food and the noise comes across as well.
