Hands down this Open Road BMW experience is the worst I have ever had. I will had given negative reviews if I can.
The experience can be separated into two parts, purchasing part and financing part. I will outline my experience in each part.
The purchasing part I will give four stars out of five. I went in the process with a price guarantee certificate, so there was not much to be negotiated. The salesman was nice to me. There was a possible miscommunication. I wish he could have informed me that I need to bring a cashier's check for down payment. I am not disputing that if they should expect cashier's check, I simply expect to be informed. I was told it was a miscommunication, but in reality this miscommunication helped them to push me into a higher loan principle amount, which is how commission is calculated. I have a bad taste in my mouth, especially when I intended to put 30-40% down payment.
The financing part was disgusting. The first surprise was rate. During the car purchasing process, I asked my sales person about the finance rate. I was informed 2% with good credit. But the first minute in the finance room the rate went up to 3.9%, THE TOTAL 190 BASIS POINTS! I told him it was not acceptable, he then offered me 3.75%. The market average that day was 3.0% and I have 790 credit score in their inquiry. I was not happy. But I did not want things to get ugly, so I decided to take the car in that loan amount and rate, just to refinance later. I am happy to report I am in 1.99% loan now. Another story I want to share was that I went in with a car loan app on my phone. I had to use it because with same principle, same term, and same rate, our monthly payment amounts was $110 apart. The loan officer went to explain to me that when term, principle or rate change, the monthly payment amount change. I did not want to embarrassing him, so I kept quite. But I had the luxury watching his monthly payment merge into the exact same amount as what I had on my phone. Then he was trying to sale me service packages. He talked fast and paper start to fly. I decided to buy a loJack, extra service package, and hazard package. He printed out hazard package, took the first page away, so I only have a page of exclusion, I don't have the information about what I bought. Again, my own fault, I tried my best to avoid confrontation. He arranged loJack installation for the next day.
Next day LoJack came to install, and a wrong product was installed. Brief introduction about LoJack, they have two packages, one option there are two sensors, one on the car and one with driver. They monitor the relative distance between the two sensors, when the relative distance exceeds the limit, an early warning will be triggered and send to car owner. The other option, only one sensor on the car. When car lost or stolen, you can inform police officer and they will try to locate your car. BMW came with this exact same feature. I was charged for first and second was installed. I contacted LoJack, I was told that was what the dealer ordered. I called many time and finally got it fixed.
During my refinance process, I went through my paper work and notices the 6 years 100,000 miles service package paperwork had hand written 5/60,000 on the term box. BMW came with 4/50,000 warranty. Who in the right frame of mind will spend close to $2200 to buy service package for one more year and 10000 more miles. Lucky for me, in the back office, they made mistakes, They went with the $2200 payment and gave me 6 years 100000 miles. I am in the process of canceling the hazard package.
The dealership, they help me to cancel service packages after I informed the manager. And my service package got right because the back office. My salesman contacted me to see if there is anything he can do to help after I informed him. So I can comfortably say that the dealership is good, it's one finance officer.
Wish you the best of all. Good luck and happy 2016
