Love History? OSV preserves and recreates life in a working farm village from 1790 to 1840, and has been a favorite destination for millions of schoolchildren for more than 60 years. If you ever wanted to step back in time, this is a magical place to learn, see and do.

This place really takes you back into another era! The reenactors are so knowledgeable about everything from the food they make to the construction of the buildings to the industrial pieces. Block out a few hours to visit because you won't want to rush through it all. The food in the cafeteria is decent and not too overcharged

I just love the charm and history here at Old Sturbridge Village. You just seem to be taken away back to the 1700s, just for a few hours when you visit. From the friendly staff that help you get your ticket to the costumed historians telling you all about rural life in colonial America it s a great place to visit. I just loved to with my school when I was a kid , checking out all the reproduction and real historic buildings , from the church to the bank - there is always something going on. You never know what s happening unless you go looking so come on down to the village with your friends and family soon. I know I will.

Lots of interesting things to see, but was disappointed to find that for an admission fee of $28, lots of the buildings were empty of period folks to describe daily life. The blacksmiths and cheesemakers were great, as were the potter and cobbler, but other buildings didn't have anyone around to talk about their daily tasks. Felt that mementos were also very pricy. I would return here again but would try to do so early in the day as lots of the staff was leaving at 3:30. I'd be hesitant to bring very young children as it would be a long and exhausting day

A wonderfully done recreation of a New England town from the 1830's. The interaction of the shop owners, townspeople, and live demonstrations of the many businesses keep the history alive while making learning about history fun for all.

As usual very pleased with my experience, except for the blacksmith. I have never been here when I am comfortable with what any smithy has to say. May it be gruff, off color, or misogynistic, these blacksmiths always make me feel uncomfortable.

OSV is a great representation of life in New England in the early 1800 s. The staff does a great job of explaining life then versus now. A membership is a great value and each time you visit gives you a different insight into history. Special events are very well done.

It was truly beautiful! The houses were closed because of COVID, but they had people inside the houses telling us a little about something from the time period. The horse drawn carriage was a slow, yet exciting ride around the town. There weren t as many animals as I remember from previous visits. A food store there was incredible expensive, though. We got 5 hot chocolates for $21.25!!! The hot chocolate wasn t even that thick.

Even though it doesn't have as many interpreters in costume as they used to (when I was growing up they had 1-2 people in each building) O.S.V. still holds amazing charm and the opportunity to observe and participate in many 19th century activities. The gift shop is outsourced and ridiculously overpriced. Overall though, it's beautiful. They have a Sleepy Hollow production in October which is great. My favorite is December though. Sleigh rides, hot mulled cider, bonfires in the snow...

Nice destination to seek out an old world village. Many buildings that were moved together to create quite a unique town from various communities within Massachusetts and beyond. Spent over 5 hours here.

This is a replica of a town from yesteryear - like 1700-1800's. They demonstrate how life was in early colonial America. The town has a working farm, and many other things - like a tin smith, a lawyer's office, a village smithy, a cabinet maker, a mercantile store, meeting house, a church, a bank etc. There are costumed people who demonstrate things, explain and answer questions. It is wonderful for history buffs and people who are curious about hand made items.
People in period dress - telling stories as if they were there. Great for the whole family. Entertaining and educational.
Free pass for your family with military ID shown !!!! Wonderful place to visit!

Old stur bridge village was decorated well on christmas lights theme but not so well managed. They hava a huge place and a beautiful theme and could have done better than what it is. Its starts at 3pm and gets colder in the evening and it had only two small fireplaces only, due to walking in cold for long time could not get to see the other fireplace theme at all. The animals are kept in very bad shape, no cleanliness.could have lit the place better and made more beautiful. The horse carriage ride doesn't cover the entire place as it should have, they are making small rounds only and dont orate anything about the village. All narrators are not good, talking very sparsly. The small house was found to have good narrator. The washroom facility is good. There is huge free parking made available.

Definitely worth the money for Phantoms and Fire. Great presentation with the fires on the pond and the actual lanterns along the paths. My only complaint would be the horse carriage driver. I understand he's got a big responsibility but he seemed very annoyed and short with everyone. Other than that a great time!

Dedicated staff and excellently crafted period pieces make this place something truly special. A mixture of handmade and relocated historic buildings dot the premises, with everything from a perfectly reconstructed 18th century New England single family home, to a relocated Congregational Church. A must go for any history buff.

As they say it makes history come alive. Costumed interpreters knowledgeable of the subject matter make this into many teachable moments. I'm not sure where some reviews put this at a 3 hr average but your admission not only includes the day you arrive but allows you to come back a second day - just bring your admission to the ticketing before you leave to get validated to return or trade up to a membership.

This place is fantastic! I've had a membership for 3 years and visit often . The docents are knowledgeable and friendly. Crowds can be an annoyance. But it is a welcome escape from cell phones and a humbling reminder that we don't know what hard work is. A must see for anyone who wants to be an American, or even more so, for those who think they already are.

Due to the pandemic, Old Sturbridge Village is at partial capacity. That means crowds are nonexistent, but buildings are closed off and staff is limited and masked. Overall, I think they are doing the best they can under the circumstances, so that's why they get 4 stars.

We always enjoy Old Sturbridge Village - staff are always welcoming of questions from adults and children, programs are delightful, atmosphere is top notch and true to the period. Particularly like that children are treated with such respect. We are or have been members of pretty much every museum in the region - OSV is the only one I would never consider allowing to lapse. Highly recommend.

About Old Sturbridge Village

Old Sturbridge Village is a living history museum located in Sturbridge, Massachusetts. The museum is dedicated to preserving and showcasing the way of life in New England during the 1830s. It is a unique destination that offers visitors an immersive experience into the past.

The village covers over 200 acres and features more than 40 original buildings from the early 19th century. These buildings include homes, barns, shops, and public buildings such as a schoolhouse and meetinghouse. Each building has been carefully restored to its original condition and furnished with period-appropriate furniture, tools, and artifacts.

Visitors can explore the village on foot or by horse-drawn carriage. They can interact with costumed interpreters who bring history to life by demonstrating traditional crafts such as blacksmithing, weaving, pottery making, and cooking over an open hearth. The interpreters also share stories about daily life in the 1830s and answer questions about their roles in the village.

One of the highlights of Old Sturbridge Village is its working farm. The Freeman Farm is a fully operational farm that showcases traditional farming methods from planting crops to harvesting hay using oxen instead of tractors. Visitors can watch demonstrations or even participate in some activities like milking cows or feeding animals.

Another popular attraction at Old Sturbridge Village is its collection of antique carriages and wagons on display at the Carriage House exhibit hall. This exhibit showcases how transportation evolved during this time period from horse-drawn carriages to steam-powered locomotives.

In addition to these attractions, Old Sturbridge Village hosts special events throughout the year such as Christmas by Candlelight where visitors can experience holiday traditions from long ago including caroling around a bonfire while sipping hot cider.

Old Sturbridge Village also offers educational programs for schools ranging from pre-K through college level students which are designed to meet state curriculum standards for social studies education.

Overall Old Sturbridge Village provides an authentic glimpse into what life was like during early America's industrial revolution era through interactive exhibits that engage visitors with hands-on experiences they won't forget anytime soon!
