The Sleepy Hollow experience is going to be new family tradition! Absolutely Amazing!
The Sleepy Hollow experience is going to be new family tradition! Absolutely Amazing!
I have been fond of spending time at OSV since i was a child. I always enjoyed the living museum aspect of the village. Unless you attend on an event day you are likely to find the character actors far and few between. The gift shop has been completely overhauled and has fewer items for children. But has added items more in line with adults.
The book store has completely changed and is now in a high traffic area making it difficult to enjoy.
The Oliver Wright Tavern has limited hours and is available for private parties. Another dimmed star at the village.
There is so much potential here for great things I hope they find a marketing guru and director who sees the potential and invests in the assets underutilized.
Over all i am still in love with the idea of OSV.
I wish it has accessable drinking water like fountains it was very hot. Other than that it was a lovely outing with the kids
It was a lot of hype. The village looked interesting from afar . The price was expensive. I was disappointed.
Relaxing, fun, entertaining and informative experience. A great day out in history
So much to see and learn here - much more than we can cover in a day, really. The people who work here vary in how much they embrace the period, but there are some real gems. We love all the demonstrations and games they have.
A great living museum located on a beautiful piece of land which features ponds, streams and hiking trails. Here craft people demonstrate historic trades of blacksmithing, pottery making, tin smithing, etc.
Another great visit! The historians are so friendly and informative! Something new to learn everytime we go.
Don't bother going now with the covid restrictions. All the buildings, houses are closed to go in. I've been here before it was so much better, now it feels like such a rip off.
Love the history. Better for an older age group to appreciate.
I can t say enough positive about this place. The basic everyday village is a great experience. However they have some phenomenal extras activities for an additional cost. We participated in a cooking experience with some of the most amazing instructors. We recently participated in the sleepy hollow experience and it was an amazing time. This is a great living historic site.
Beautiful authentic village. Easy walking, seating areas throughout, very good cafeteria on site. Quite enjoyable and educational.
Been members for many years... Our children love it and a great place to take guests!
It was an educational experience for our family visiting the old village with live demonstrations of pottery making, yeast making for bread, etc as if it happened over 150 years ago. If you're a history buff, this one's for you. The shops there have unique souvenirs, good coffee and delicious fudge to buy.
Love love love this place! We are members and it is so absolutely worth it!
Been a member of the village for 43 years. I won't have kept up my membership if I thought it wasn't worth the value. Every time I go I learn something new.
This is really an amazing slice of 1800s Americana. Staff are incredible and knowledgeable while staying in character and truly working. Adults and kids alike can enjoy this magical place.
During the Covid restrictions, you are unable to go into the houses and in various buildings where there are activities going on. You can stand outside and talk to the person inside, but everyone is masked and in order to talk to the person you inevitably end up in a crowd of people at the door which, masks or no masks, is not particularly safe.
We came on a gloomy winter day; everything was gray and the lights from the candles didn't make much impact. The highlight of the visit was a cup of warm cider with rum.
It's so beautiful and definitely a step into the past definitely one of my favorite places to go.
I loved the Christmas show in 2015 now I am at the Sleepy Hollow show ..it's Great !!!
Paid a visit on a clear February day. It felt pretty busy despite the cold (it's a school break week). Staff were friendly and informative, and did an admirable job adapting their roles to pandemic restrictions. I can't say traipsing thru the frozen mud was much fun, but our kids had a good time sliding around, peeking into buildings and looking at the farm animals. Hot apple cider was a hit. There are clean bathrooms and a few places to warm up. Wish the hill behind the pound was open for sledding! Looking forward to another visit on a warmer day, and again when all restrictions are lifted.
Attended an evening wedding here. Absolutely stunning!
A great educational trip for the family. The costumed interpreters are knowledgeable and great with visitors of all ages.
Love this place. Have been visiting since I was a little kid. Living history museum, circa 1830s. Very interactive; costumed interpreters and crafters. Lovely grounds.
We come here often and it never disappoints. There is always something going on. Kiddos are always very engaged.
My kids (3 and 6) always have such a good time here. They love the animals, the houses, the tin smith and the play arrat--they could spend hours there! And of courytbey live getting a piece of candy from the gift shop.
Over all a great experience but some of the younger staff pick and chose who to engage in with the stories of the village. Which hurt my children feelings was they were very excited to be there.
Such a great place to walk around for a few hours, or spend the entire day. All the workers are extremely friendly and very knowledgeable. I love taking the family here.
Really cool and historical village in Sturbridge. Great place to bring kids for the day.
Great old times experience. Come early to see the demonstrations
We enjoyed our visit here. Unfortunately not every home had someone in it to explain the significance. But the ones that were , were great. Took us about 3 hours to see everything.
Authentic buildings reassembled to recreate an 1830s village. It works!
It was a lovely holiday festive town and it was magical with all the lights and snow. I love Sturbridge Village it's very beautiful with horses and sheep and cows.
Excellent recreation of an early 1800's village. Outstanding living history museum. The staff, not sure of a better descriptor, were friendly, helpful and informative.
Outstanding history lesson...
If you are visiting Massachusetts, you definitely have to spend a day at the Old Sturbridge Village. It's conveniently located near the Mass Pike / Rte 90 near I84.
My parents brought me and my brothers here in the 1980s. We brought our kids here in the 90s and almost 20 years later, we saw it again. It hasn't changed much. I've uploaded a bunch of pictures from our most recent trip.
There's lots to see and do. There are people/actors in various locations who will explain what they are doing and why. The gardens are lovely, it's a working farm.
Learn to get the best of both old Sturbridge era and today's modern era people!.... Learn how to craft and repair your own stuff so you're not a slave to corporations doing it for you like most modern people are...... But also be modern and abandon women for sex-bots so you're not a slave to women like Old Sturbridge era people are! :)
One of my favorite living history museums. Sadly, it is in need of repair as fewer people seem to frequent this type of destination. Craft weekend was lively and informative. If it were held more frequently, ticket sales would soar.
Must have seen, great location! Unfortunately underrepresented in German travel guides.
A very worthwhile excursion, a journey back in time to a village around 1830. In the various old buildings, people in the corresponding old costumes embody the village population and explain how, for example, B. in the past, food was grown, preserved and processed,
This place is such a joy to come to. They are always adding something new. I hope more will be opening up as summer comes along. Even with COVID restrictions, they have worked around it by putting tents outside buildings. It is definitely worth the trip.
Lovely visit to an 1830s New England town. Well done.
Lots of walking involved. Docents everywhere with stories to tell
You truly feel like you are walking around in the 1800's. The people that work there are friendly and professional. They know their history and willing to walk you through their part of the village at your own pace. There are many places to go to the bathroom and rest. They have a boat ride and a horse ride all inclusive at different times of the day.
Loved it. Be sure to take the free horse drawn ride through the property. The driver gives a lot of info that makes the village more meaningful.
You need to revisit the 18th century. Or just come back time and again looking after your school field trip Days are over. It's in interesting, fun and charming. They do special themed events which are not to be missed
Great place o visit that takes you and your family back in time and shows you the life of the original settlers in America would have been like. Highly recommended .
Old Sturbridge Village is museum in village setup. There are demos by pottery artists, blacksmiths etc. There are many old modeled houses as well. It is a setup which will show you how the life used to be 150-200 years back in USA. It's good for kids to learn about the history.
This place is historically accurate and was alive! From observing a family in period costume with period foods in a period farmhouse eating the actual meal to watching a cobbler make shoes or taking a stagecoach ride around the square. So much activity going on. Don't forget to stop by the ticket counter on the way out to get your free return pass!
I had much higher expectations. We were only able to interact with four people, five ...if I'm generous about it, in three hours and only two were thoroughly enthusiastic about it. Not worth the drive. :-(
The experience you have totally depends on the time you go, early is the best.
Beautiful place. It is like a New England 18th to 19th century wonder palace dream scape. It really makes me wish I lived back then.
Just a fantastic place to visit. I have been coming here since I was a little boy and I cant wait to take my little boy there soon.
A step back into the past an interesting insight into how hard life was in the 1800's. As a retired military member I was surprised and pleased at the discount we were given. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
My wife and the kids have visited Old Sturbridge Village a few times in the past, mostly in the summer or fall. This time we went there in mid December. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable, the structures are well maintained. It is quite busy considering CoV2 is forming a second attack...
This is an amazing place to bring kids to showcase history in a different and engaging way. We love it here!
One of those places that's a must see for everyone.and a great value. Veterans get your discount.
Gorgeous grounds for a wedding. Great variety of locations. Excellent spots for pictures.
Many buildings were closed up but the price to visit was the same.
If you are a school or a social studies/history teacher i recommend coming to this recreation as a field trip.
Awesome experience very educational for both adults and kids alike! Super neat to watch how people lived.... On before we had a Google Maps where you could go and get the whole experience on your cell phone LOL
There is ticks but the people do not go out of character, I wish it would be a little cheaper for the gift shop
Very nice place to visit with family and friends. Staff are very very helpful and extremely friendly. Love to go back here over and over again.
Great place to take your kids to learn about old ways and how people used to get by, great area for walks, picnics and more. Lots of things to do while you are there. The entrance fee is a bit steep, but they let you come back again the next weekend I believe (or the next day possibly). Food is relatively cheap inside there, but it would also be nice to bring with you a picnic basket.
Nice family evening. The mulled cider it's not too be missed.
Exceptional experience. OSV did a wonderful job managing the experience in light of COVID restrictions. We enjoyed a lovely day as a family. OSV is a national treasure don't hesitate to visit.
This is a wonderful recreated 1820's village with lots of demonstrations and helpful staff. Its a great place to take the family.
Great place to take family for Christmas season and learn about the challenges and simplicity of life the past. They did an excellent with the Xmas light displays
Beautiful place! It is a good-sized village with dirt paths. Kids can run happily. The costumed interpreters offer excellent information. We really liked watching them work at the forge. If you're in the area, I recommend at least stopping into the Gift shop. It's huge with plenty of books and treats. The day we were there, they hosted a wedding party.
Great day trip. Staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. Beautiful historic New England attraction.
Went to the Sleepy Hollow experience at Sturbridge Village and had a great time with my daughter.
Beautiful, huge, historical representation of what it would be like to live on/in a New England farm and village. The entry ticket did feel a little pricy at first, but after I realized they run a working farm and have a lot of staff, it made sense. A great place for kids!
Old Sturbridge Village is a living history museum located in Sturbridge, Massachusetts. The museum is dedicated to preserving and showcasing the way of life in New England during the 1830s. It is a unique destination that offers visitors an immersive experience into the past.
The village covers over 200 acres and features more than 40 original buildings from the early 19th century. These buildings include homes, barns, shops, and public buildings such as a schoolhouse and meetinghouse. Each building has been carefully restored to its original condition and furnished with period-appropriate furniture, tools, and artifacts.
Visitors can explore the village on foot or by horse-drawn carriage. They can interact with costumed interpreters who bring history to life by demonstrating traditional crafts such as blacksmithing, weaving, pottery making, and cooking over an open hearth. The interpreters also share stories about daily life in the 1830s and answer questions about their roles in the village.
One of the highlights of Old Sturbridge Village is its working farm. The Freeman Farm is a fully operational farm that showcases traditional farming methods from planting crops to harvesting hay using oxen instead of tractors. Visitors can watch demonstrations or even participate in some activities like milking cows or feeding animals.
Another popular attraction at Old Sturbridge Village is its collection of antique carriages and wagons on display at the Carriage House exhibit hall. This exhibit showcases how transportation evolved during this time period from horse-drawn carriages to steam-powered locomotives.
In addition to these attractions, Old Sturbridge Village hosts special events throughout the year such as Christmas by Candlelight where visitors can experience holiday traditions from long ago including caroling around a bonfire while sipping hot cider.
Old Sturbridge Village also offers educational programs for schools ranging from pre-K through college level students which are designed to meet state curriculum standards for social studies education.
Overall Old Sturbridge Village provides an authentic glimpse into what life was like during early America's industrial revolution era through interactive exhibits that engage visitors with hands-on experiences they won't forget anytime soon!
