The wife and I have been here numerous times. Very good Mediterranean fare with a Turkish flare! Bottom line is good food, fair prices and a staff and management that understands hospitality.
I have been here a couple of times and never disapointed me! Food has always been great & authentic and staff extremely friendly. The bread is made fresh, the grill is amazing and they have kunefe my favorite Turkish dessert!
A great place to test Mediterranean food and kebabs. The staff is super nice and helpful. Order plates are very big and cheap....If you go there, make sure to try Lahmacun( Turkish pizza).
I live in New Jersey but I go all the way down there every week to taste their unique food, lahmacun, and desserts. Just give it a try and you become addicted to this place :)
Love the great variety of Mediterranean food with great ambience and service of OBA! The food is all very tasteful and fresh. Highly recommended for everyone. Keep it up guys!
Loved this place!!! The food is amazing and the employees are awesome. Always on their toes! Have been here a couple of times. There s usually a wait because they re so busy but totally worth the wait
Finally! Austin street needed a genuine Mediterranean/Turkish restaurant! Oba has amazing food--I recommended their pide and lahmacun. The service is great and everyone who works there is very friendly as well.
Something is not right with this restaurant occupying the prime spot intersecting eat street and Austin in my opinion.
The interior is bright and clean, but the seats seems ill arranged. Customers brush by each other to get in and out of their tables.
The service is good, but barely makes up for the bland taste of most of the items for me. For example, chicken kebab, itself somewhat under-seasoned, came with salad without dressing and unseasoned white rice. I found the most flavorful condiment, pitifully, to be the Heinz ketchup.
Food was good, service was good but rushed. However bathroom unfortunately was very dirty & had no place to put a bag other than the floor (which I didn't because it was dirty). There was also a baby chair and a regular chair blocking which made it difficult to open the door. Sorry but that made it unpleasant.
I was really excited to try this place after reading so many great reviews but I will definitely not be back.
I had Lamb Gyro and Baklava. I have to say that was the worst gyro I ever had. The meat had absolutely no flavor and it was very greasy. The sauces were watered down with not much taste to them at all. The Baklava was also greasy as well as way too sweet.
The two stars are for the friendly service and the cleanliness of the establishment.
Every time I've passed this restaurant, it has been crowded. Now that the wonderful Spring weather is here, tables have been placed outside and as you pass by you can almost taste the food by the aroma being carried by the breeze. So, I decide today was a good day to try it. As you walk in, you can sit anywhere (please don't stand around as I did waiting for a host or hostess to seat you). We were attended to right away with menus. As you wait for your food, they serve you complementary flatbread and olive oil. I ordered the chicken shish and lamb shish, this comes with a good portion of rice as well as salad. Everything was fresh and really, really good. I will definitely frequent this awesome find during the summer.
So I returned to Oba with a friend and her daughter and she liked the food as well. Normally if something was not up to my standards I would never go back but I believe that one of the host who may have been part owner was so attentive and extremely nice after i cut into a piece of lamb that was too rare for my liking that he did not charge me for the plate nor the extra lamb that was cooked perfectly that I would definitely go back.
This resturant just opened 2 months ago and I go there all the time. They have Excellent fresh Mediterranean food. I like the meat platter and apitizer platter which is good for two people. The resturant is small and mostly crowded so you can't really enjoy and there is no parking. So just order the food to go and enjoy at home.
I sent my friends to this restaurant with my highest recommendations. I visit this place often. This recommendation is always successful. The meals are flavorable and the team is generous and cooperative. always when we eat in this place we have a delightful time. warmly recommended.
Food is amazing great place for a casual get together. Just an all around good time. The service is excellent fast and efficient. The food is just perfection. Next Friday casual dinner and a movie this is the place to be.
The rice and salad was the most greasy Mediterranean food I have ever had. The lamb was raw although I asked for it well cooked and it was very greasy. Food not worth the price.
the food here is delicious. the servers are on point for refills of your beverage and for their complimentary bread and sauces. the falafel plate is very generous with 8 pieces of falafel salad rice and hummus. the price is decent here for the amount of food given. their large plates ate good for sharing.
Tasty fresh food ... really authentic. Visited this place couple times and every time had good experience. If you long time wanted to try some middle east food, it is good place to start
Great casual place for kebabs; the doner tastes like it was from Istanbul, and the staff have always been friendly and helpful in the few times I've eaten here.
The location is great. The service is fantastic. And the portion sizes are amazing. Not to mention the amazing quality of the food itself. They also have Turkish coffee which tastes and looks good.
I wanted to experience the outdoor dining, specially at this time in December when we just had our first snowstorm. So I went to Forest Hills to see how things, I saw one of my favorite spot OBA Mediterranean Gyro & Grill. I was greeted by one of the waitresses and asked me where would I like to seat, next to their outside window (which is cooler there) or closer to the wall where they have heaters. I choose by the wall. As I'm getting the food I ordered that's when I truly see and understand how much of work these restaurants have to go through in order to followed their outdoor dining guidelines and how much workers have to do to make all of us comfortable, making sure the doors are closed so we can enjoy our food as well service incoming customers. That's when I saw Mr. Berkan Dinc one of the owners, rolling his sleeves and assisted in arranged tables for customers and running to get get things under control. Something that make me realize that no matter what, we all can continue with our normal life, despite this Epidemic and so many government restrictions. Business owners deserves a big of applause for everything they do every single day, as well as their entire staff. They offer authentic cuisine a wide selection of appetizers, salads, kebabs and seafood. I highly recommend it.
Ordered lentil soup, for $7.67 I was given a small cup of yellow split pea soup, watered down, burnt, and completely devoid of flavor. The one star is for the bread served with it.
The waiter very heavy, the restaurant almost empty I went to buy 3 lunches and sat next window and he told me that if they did not sit down 4 that I had to change table, or that I could not attend, I stopped and told him when I came with Three other people come back. Ajaaaa if we come back with so much competition in Austin avenue and queens blvd ... Never eat back. Worst waiter .... forrest hills.
Staff members are friendly, The food is very tasty, but a long waiting in weekend. I think this is the only restaurant in Forest Hills that serve HALAL food.
Nice service, the space is limited and fills quickly. Very tasty food. Great menu. Prices are fair, to slightly higher, but for the quality it is worth it.
The rating would be worse except that the food was good - which is the only redeeming quality of this restaurant. Extremely small and cramped, I d say it s probably primarily geared for takeout. In fact the line at the counter spills into what few tables it does have. I went with 3 other people and although it wasn t the height of dinner hour, the place was total chaos. We had 4 separate servers, each one worse than the other. They took 3 of the 4 orders then walked away. Never asked if we wanted beverages and when we asked, they were annoyed. 3 of the 4 orders were incorrect, only 1 person received their beverage, and there were no condiments or extra napkins on tables - again, any request was met with annoyance. Rude, incompetent staff at best. There is no A/C - this is July but there is a fab which blows on the disinterest greeter at the door. Do yourselves a favor - if you must eat from this restaurant, take our or use a delivery service.
Food was excellent. Ordered the Vegetarian Dinner Entree, Baba Ghanoush and the Chicken Entree. It was delicious. Generous portion size especially the Vegetarian Entree. To top that off we had multiple servings of fresh warm bread. Staff was friendly as well. This place appears to be very popular so you may expect to wait for a bit to be seated. Will definitely visit again.
I came here with my family, I mean, they welcomed us open arms. We sat down, they gave us bread, ordered appetizer, Feta cheese roll. It was great at first, and then when we ordered our entrees. It took over an hour, to get our food. I finally got my Avocado salad 10 minutes after my family got their entrees. The salad was not that good.
If I would have ordered ordered the avocado without the salad, that would still would have taken them over an hour. 5 other customers sat down and got there orders before us. Terrible.
The waiters excuse was the order got mixed up with another table. Which means if it went to the other table we should have gotten ours.
I get it. I guess I m not welcomed. I don t know if I have offended this restaurant. I will not come back.
If you don t get your within 15 minutes. Just cancel the order and leave. No hard feeling.
