This is an association building for Realtors. It protects and supports 13,000 Realtors in Northern Virginia footprints. It provides great services to these Realtors to enable them to help families moving to or from their homes. The building is also GREEN CERTIFIED and an icon for the new trend of Green Development. It also represents for the voice of local Realtors in housing issues that directly affects homeownership.

I've been going to NVAR for the last 30 years to take my Broker's License Continuing Education classes for my D.C. and Virginia Broker's License Renewals, and I have appreciated their assortment of Teachers/Instructors as well. Some have been exceptional and some have been adequate, but all have provided good coverage of all the taught subject areas!

This review is for my experience at the NVAR store on the morning of June 24th, 2016. I came to purchase a SentriLock box. I waited for 8:30 am for the doors to be unlocked. I greeted the first person I saw who seemed to be a staff but got no response. Here is the conversation with the store clerk.

Me: Good morning.
No response back from clerk for few seconds.
Clerk: We open at 8:30 am
Me: Ok
At this point, I was just waiting by the register.
Clerk: You can browse around.
I had no reason to browse around. The SentriLock box is sold at the register.
Me: What time do you open?
Clerk: 8:30 am
Me: It s 8:34 am
Clerk: How did you get here? Through the garage?
Me: No, through the top level entrance. It was unlocked.
At this point, she started having a conversation with the other staff. She was complaining how she didn t hear the doors open.
Other Staff to Me: You are too early.

She was completely rude throughout the entire transaction.

I felt like I was being interrogated for being the first customer. I am not paying a hefty membership fee to be treated this way. It clearly states on the website, business hours are from 8:30 am. What did I do wrong by showing up at 8:30 am?

We paid $250 to join as an affiliate member in June, only to find out there was no proration on the membership dues when we got another $200 bill after September 30 for 2019 dues. Horrible policy and something that should be told to prospective new members upfront.

Update: NVAR contacted me and made this right, which is all I could expect from anyone...thank you NVAR! I look forward to another year as an affiliate member!

NVAR Realtors (in my opinion/ and experiences) are...

NVAR Realtors (in my opinion/ and experiences) are obstructionists and if you are a seller, keep in mind they will likely not show your house to licensed agents and brokers who are not members of the "Realtors" association. They will likely not let anyone access their "proprietary" lockboxes without being a "Realtor". Make sure if you do business with one of these robots, that you put in the listing agreement that they are mandated to cooperate with other licensed agents and brokers who may not be affiliated with the "Realtors" association, and mandate they use a regular contractors combo lock box so that anyone in the business can access the property without having to be a part of the "Realtors" association. What they are doing is monopolizing the industry and indoctrinating these people to believe what they are doing is lawful. Who suffer are the buyers and sellers. I am a licensed broker, not an agent, and I was refused to show my clients a few houses by NVAR agents because I wasn't part of their stupid fraternity. NVAR said if I want to show their listings I have to pay to be a member and get a key card. Those sellers missed out on a buyer they will never know they had.

Exceeded my expectations as usual. They're always wonderful. Finally my Sentrilock box was changed thanks to NVAR. Sentrilock was difficult to deal with. NVAR associates managed it for me!! Case solved!!

Store might be closed, if they have a meeting!! I called earlier twice, once left a VM (without response)to confirm availability of an item. The clerk didn t mentioned the special secret time that the store is going to be closed. I have made the 20 mile trip only to find this notice on the door an hour before regular closing time.
