The OB GYN Dept was horrible especially their L & D dept in 2013. I hope patient care changed and hope those same nurses who messed up aren't there. I had other dependents tell me not to have a baby there and went against the advice. I blame myself for not listening but I really hope things have changed.

By far the absolute worst care I have ever experienced at a medical facility. Thanks to the incompetent office staff of the OBGYN I m now forced to find a new clinic half way through my pregnancy. Wonderful baby experience ruined by a their lack of care.

I've visited this place for mainly mental health related issues. After going from doctor to doctor to octor, the mental health providers here are among some of the best I have ever encountered.

Also the inpatient mental health facility knocks the crap out of any other place in the Hamtpon Roads Area. Normally these places just look to diagnose you, put you on meds, then get you out of here. Here, ALL of the staff are extremely compassionate and the programs set in place a very thorough. The drug counseling in particular was A+.

The pharmacy located here is the slowest pharmacy I've ever listed, military or civilian. You'll wait over an hour just to give them your ticket when it's dead then you have to wait for them to actually get your prescription for about another hour. There is currently less than 10 people waiting in this pharmacy and only 4 numbers have been called in the last 45 mins. This pharmacy needs an overhaul on service immediately!

First let me clarify what is good; anything in the specialists department (ie, ENT, Neurology, pediatric neurology, etc) is fantastic.

What is bad; OB/GYN I had my son here and I was treated worse than dirt. The corpsman complained because he was called in while he was sick and said to me that he hopes I didn't mind a corpsman that was whacked out on Codien handling my new born. Husband was deployed at the time of birth and I required a c-section. When I was discharged I had to walk out and pick up my own medications while I was really sick. I was admitted to hospital two days after discharge and husband was sent back from deployment because of their negligence. I have heard some say that they love their clinic but after my experience I would sooner give birth in a taxi before PNH again.

My wife and I have both worked/are currently working in the healthcare field. We understand the difficulties of long shifts, shift changes, and understaffing. That being said, we find it difficult to understand the lack of communication and care we received during our labor and delivery experience. The excuse we got was that it was a "teaching hospital." I'm not sure what that is supposed to mean. Some of the best hospitals in the country are teaching hospitals.
Meanwhile, it seems that the definition of triage at this hospital means leaving a 10cm dilated woman in labor without a provider for 5 hours because she is "stable." The resulting c-section and treatment for infection because of that kind of negligence have caused what we feel was unecessary trauma to her body and prolonged her recovery time. To top it off, we seem to be on the back burner again every time we voice our concerns with her recovery treatment.
Some of the providers here are great, but I would not recommend this facility to anyone at this point.

This hospital is very good for a military hospital. The facility is clean. The ER is pretty fast for an ER. The doctors are trained well. The staff is generally helpful. The new pharmacy is really good and big. I had surgery, other procedures, xrays, cat scans, mri, bloodwork, arthritis clinic, neuro clinic, mammogram clinic, pediatric clinic, cardiology, allergy clinic, audiology clinic, intensive care, ER, pharmacy, pulmonary clinic, and immunization. So I have been almost everywhere here. I wouldn't go to any other military hospital.

I used to work there even, I got messed up in 07' ...

I used to work there even, I got messed up in 07' and again in 09' while with 2nd MAR DIV, I was sent to Pain Management in 2012, they absolutely did nothing for me. and when I say nothing, I mean they told me, "We don't do that here." referring to pain medicine after my PCP and I had tried different meds for 2 years before sending me there because we finally found out how bad my spine and head were messed up from testing. Oh, they did do "Radio Frequency Ablation" where they burn some nerves off your spine in an attempt to help your pain, they gave me nothing for the pain during the procedure but some anti-anxiety meds, then when I asked because it was so incredibly painful after the procedure for some kind of pain medication, I waited 4 hours at the pharmacy for tylenol... Nothing has changed apparently. I was an FMF Corpsman and they treat everyone like absolute garbage. The doctors don't listen even if you have 11 years of medical history as I found out when I had to go in recently because I was having one of my migraines that mimic's a stroke, yay TBIs. They not only told me they wouldn't give me anything for pain, they wouldn't admit me, and quote, "No doctor wants to put their name on a pain medication prescription." They even forgot about me in the room and I was waiting in there for an hour after that encounter with the Doctor. Some nurse came in to bring a new patient in, and asked me who I was... It was absolutely disgusting. I will never go there if I can help it. I don't know what they are teaching Navy Doctors/PAs/Nurses these days, but some of us get F%^&#$ up in war. Then they listened to me so little they sent me to the pharmacy for medications I already had and I waited 2 hours for them at 23:00 and no one else was at the pharmacy. It was absolutely disgusting. Whoever is in charge of the place now should be sacked.

This place isn t the best place and they re not professional what so ever, my husband went to get checked and they laughed at him like a joke, he even had to make an appointment months in advance to then get a call with results and no email of the results of his blood work and other tests for his records, then the so called nurse or doctor says bye boyfriend at the end of the calling flirting with him while smacking on chips. This so uncalled for and truly disrespectful please inform fellow employees what professionalism is considering the fact it s a military medical office like come on.

The few times I have been to the ER they have been nice and reasonable but as a care facility from gyno to neuro the care from the doctors are mean and don t actually care to listen or care for patients they make you feel like your a bother for being there. I felt put off or crazy for explaining symptoms which as a patient shouldn t feel that way ! They need to better the staff and hire people who actually love what they do which is HELPING OTHERS !

Avoid this pharmacy at all cost. Worst than the DMV. Needs a better system for already phoned in perscriptions. Currently 7 people in the waiting area and it has taken in average 30 minutes to check in. Just to get told to go wait until they fill your perscription. New system I needed for sure.

I am a 24 year Veteran and Retiree. I have used Tricare Prime Remote in other areas and other MTFs. Portsmouth NMC is one of the best I have experienced. Most recently my daughter, who is in the Navy went into labor at 30 weeks. She first ended up at Sentara Kempsville ED. Sentara insisted she have a cesarean because her first child was delivered that way. When she refused they discharged her while in labor to go to Portsmouth NMC. Her mother and I picked her up, drove her to NMCP where she was allowed to deliver vaginally and prematurely.

The room was equivalent to any delivery room at the local hospitals. It was a family room where my wife and I were able to be present through the entire delivery. I was able to cut the chord and all. My premature grandson had breathing difficulties and ended up in the NICU for the next 5 weeks. I was thoroughly impressed with the communication of the nurses with us about his procedures, daily status, milestones and timelines. The NICU nurses were always professional and encouraged us to visit and have contact with my grandson.

My one complaint about NMCP is they constantly change my PCM, who I rarely see. The Nurse Practitioners I do see for my own care are always attentive and make me feel listened to. When the Comfort is out there is a noticeable difference in wait times in some clinics, labs and pharmacy. My recommendation is try to get early morning appointments before labs and pharmacy get really backed up.

I have been sitting at the pharmacy now for over two hours and have not even been called so they know which prescription to fill. They did a renovation to add more windows but do not utilize them to speed up wait times. Not sure if they are just under staffed. Hire more people or get more billeted positions to fill the demand.

I gave birth here and was extremely overwhelmed as I had literally no help or visitors. I buzzed the front desk to ask if the nurse would hold my daughter for a few minutes because she wouldn't stop crying so I could take a quick shower. She rudely told me that it wasn't her job. Some people really shouldn't work in the healthcare field. It was such a disappointing birth experience.

I tore my acl in the end of May and had my acl replaced here by Dr. Balazs. Not only is he really easy to get a hold of with questions but he fit me in a month sooner than I expected and the day of the surgery was perfect. The staff worked together like a well oiled machine and everyone was super friendly. I can t think of any complaints, the wait time for surgery was long but as far as I know acl tears are the most common sports injury so I imagine they have a long wait list. I definitely felt like I was in good hands and my trust was not misguided, everything went great.

The Orthopedic Drs. at Portsmouth Naval Hospital saved my life. I found them to be very professional, caring and experts in the Orthopedic field. The nurse s overall were excellent. I will always be thankful for the excellent care I got. I'm sending a big THANK-YOU to the orthopedic ward where I was from Aug. 21, 1977- Nov. Thanksgiving 1977. I went in after head-on collision around a blind curve on my dirt bike.Officers that investigated accident said it was compared to hitting a brick wall at 90 mph. Forever grateful for the prompt decisions they made in putting me back together after multiple fractures from head to toe, the worst being compound fracture of left femur which came out of thigh about 6 inches. May God Bless you all. Marietta Bunch Wright

Incredibly nice and well educated/informed staff. Really took care of me after I had
2 AFib attacks followed by a heart attack. Informed me of my procedures to a "T"
regularly checked on my progress without interrupting my sleep (i don't sleep well at hospitals)
just an incredible staff. I have had 3 emergency room visits since April when I was first diagnosed
with AFib and with each visit was seen immediately. Cardiologist listened to my displeasure of medicines and we both made a compromise. Some changes to my meds were met same purpose different meds. Hopefully Dec 2015 was my last visit.

I absolutely HATE this hospital and the healthcare wish I didn't have to deal with military healthcare or portsmouth hospital period.

Unless you absolutely have to go to a specialist, try to go to one of the surrounding military clinics like Langley Falls or Sewells Point. Civilian doctors that work here are probably the most poorly educated doctors they could scrounge up. The enlisted corpsman are incredibly terrible at doing anything from logging required immunizations to being considerate.
And do whatever you can to have your baby elsewhere because if something goes wrong with your health like mine did, they're a bigger threat to your baby then you are incapitated.

We have been seen at military medical clinics all over the world. This hospital is the worst we have ever been to. They overbook their clinics and refuse to give you a waiver to be seen off post. After much trouble we have been finally advised to send in a waiver to be seen off post...we have currently been waiting on the approval for 5 weeks. This waiver is so my child can see a doctor. The average time we have waited for the pharmacy is an hour. I had spine surgery less than a year ago...took 11 visits to attempt to get PT...I had to drive an hour away to another clinic to get a referral for PT. Command team does not answer to ICE comments. I highly recommend going elsewhere.

Good luck finding a parking spot and getting to your appointment on time! A lot of people have to resort to illegally parking in the parking garage and taking a parking ticket because there is no where else to park. This especially sucks if you're actually handicapped and all the spots are full. The hospital has signs everywhere complaining about people missing appointments and wasting government money. Maybe if they addressed the parking situation they would have fewer missed appointments

Honestly the best care I've had at a military hospital. I just delivered my first child here two weeks ago and I can't praise the doctors and nurses enough.
I had preeclampsia and for our safety I had a scheduled induction. All of the hospital staff was amazing. Every single person that I encountered working at this hospital was so dang kind.
This was my first child and there were times during the induction process that I was hesitant to make decisions, and everyone was super understanding and walked me through processes so that I was more comfortable.
The delivery team was amazing. I fully believe that a successful birth starts with your birthing team, and they were wonderful. They were professional, personable, encouraging, and were able to laugh and crack jokes with me which helped ease my anxiety. I had a quick, easy delivery, and I know it was 100% because of them. The recovery side was equally amazing. They were so helpful, giving me everything I could possibly need for a successful recovery.
I can't thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at NMCP enough.

Totally on point. Thank you. I was able to use these instructions with bad road conditions. Again thank you. The only problem is that I don't always get that voice directions as that is very important when driving. Also without knowing, I went on a day that the hospital with closed due to road conditions. My son needed tests and we had driven all the way from Fort Eustis. The technicians where awesome. They happily ran all tests in two separate department without making us return from Fort Eustis. I really appreciate them. They're the best. Thank you again. :-)

****Review of Birth Center****

****Review of Birth Center****

0 STARS. ( - ) NEGATIVE STARS.

The absolute, utmost, WORST, I repeat, WORST birth center I so unfortunately was subjected to. I had my 3rd child in January 2017. First let me say Tricare is terrible towards anyone within a 30 mile radius from the hospital because unless your baby is falling out, you HAVE to deliver at Portsmouth. Rooms full? Tough luck, go anyway.

I arrived at 1am at the birth center with contractions 2 mins apart. Was handed paperwork. Yes the other 2 hospitals I delivered made sure you took care of paperwork prior to your due date but again Portsmouth could care LESS. So paperwork done, sat there for 10 mins. I was led to an exam room, the nurse was very cold, said little if anything other than to instruct me to sit down. Thankfully this was not my first child and that I had company because at this point it was very clear this was what I was to expect the entire way. Any respectable hospital treats expected mothers with support and care but forget about it with Portsmouth. If I could turn the hands back, I would absolutely have chose a home birth rather than be uncomfortable and disrespected like I was at Portsmouth. Getting back to it, I asked for a pillow to put between my legs, they had not ONE. I asked for a blanket instead, they had one lol I asked for water, they brought me a pitcher and they had no cups. The rooms were full so I sat there and begged for an epidural for an HOUR. The rooms are full we can't give you an epidural. At his point, I'm furious that quote "Navy Medical Center Portsmouth prides itself on delivering 300 babies each months" yet they can't manage a full house? Understaffed, underresourced. I believe there were only 2 or 3 doctors for the entire birth center that was full. Finally got into the room, got the epidural, had my baby. Everything finally seemed comfortable. We were going to the maternal ward and we were going to have to room with another mom. Place a healthy mom and healthy baby with another mom and baby for 24 hours before you can be let go. Again thank you Portsmouth for not caring about your patients comfort. Both myself and the baby were healthy. We were told I could not leave until the next day. What do you do with home births? If you are unable to properly provide care, you are maxed out with space and under staffed you take the common sense approach and let the EXPERIENCED mothers and babies with no complications go home. Again third baby. Call for pain medicine? Wait awhile. Oh and the best part? You are FORCED to attend a seminar for 45mins to 1 hour to watch shaking baby videos, abuse, etc. Again FORCED. I was told you will not be discharged until you attend the seminar. I refused I'm pretty sure that is unlawful for one. I was told I had to at least watch a 30 minute video on people describing how they shook their babies and the complications resulting from. I watched for 2 mins and that's it. This was my 3rd child. I am not going to sit there and watch horrific accounts of child abuse. I to this day am beside myself with my birth experience. My first two children had the textbook birth experience. Friendly staff, Standard hospital care, very plain and simple. Portsmouth is not a pleasant place to experience childbirth. Heed my words expectant mothers. If I could go back, home birth or switch to Tricare standard and deliver at your local hospital. This is not some page from a fiction novel, the birth center really is an unpleasant place.

Below you will find my first review after I was op...

Below you will find my first review after I was openly discriminated against for nursing by a nurse in the pediatric unit, however since then my complaints have been taken very seriously by the directors and the situation was rectified as they have assured me their policy allowing nursing mothers to nurse anywhere and will be adhered to and disseminated amongst all staff hospital-wide. Otherwise the hospital is always courteous, the staff are prompt thorough and knowledgeable and they do a great job there outside of this incident. If you are a nursing mother, know that the hospital's policy allows you to nurse anywhere you would like and are comfortable.

ORIGINAL COMPLAINT BELOW

"On August 10th 2015 while at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth in Portsmouth VA I was told by a nurse named Demitria Howell at the Pediatric Clinic when taking two of my three children to their check-ups that I may not nurse my infant comfortably in the back room waiting area. My other two children were happily coloring while we waited for room availability and apparently the couple across from us disliked that my six month old wanted a quick snack and complained. Ms. Howell came over and told me "you need to move to the nursing room." I said no thanks they are going to take us into a room any minute and my other two children are entertained but thank you for the offer. To which she replied with insistence that I move saying "No you need to come to the nursing room and you need to think about other people's comfort." I replied by explaining that the law states I can legally nurse wherever I am otherwise allowed to be and that their comfort with my child eating was none of my or my baby's concern. She CONTINUED TO BERATE ME even after my baby had finished, she repeatedly cut me off saying "you don't understand! You're not listening to me! Breastfeeding is beautiful but other people don't need to see it and you need to cover up out here or go to the nursing room!" "I tried then to ask her if she would cover up and eat beneath a blanket if asked to when someone disliked her eating? I was always rudely interrupted and screamed at by her whenever I tried to speak so I was again cut off, she also repeatedly rolled her eyes waved her finger at me and treated me like a criminal. This is until finally another nurse pulled her aside, but that didn't stop Ms. Howell before listening and leaving me alone, from getting closer to me and saying with loud disdain "YOU stay right here you understand?" I didn't, I went back to our room when one was made available and Ms. Howell was undoubtedly instructed as to what the law in our state says and most others states. The head nurse apologized to me and was quite kind but I have to say SHAME ON YOU NAVAL MEDICAL CENTER PORTSMOUTH FOR NOT ADEQUATELY TRAINING YOUR EMPLOYEES ON THE LAW. This buffoon made a spectacle of me and my poor baby who is entitled to eat like anyone else and who will not tolerate a cover. A less courageous and knowledgeable mother likely would have been SHAMED into moving and hiding away, not to mention my other two kids who were happily playing needing to move would have been very inconvenient. NO ONE SHOULD BE FORCED TO HIDE while feeding their children NO ONE.Hands and mouths are sexual too but not at all times or in all places, same goes for breasts made to feed babies, anyone who sees that as sexual has issues and THEY are free to go but I should not have been yelled at, accused, discriminated against or forced to move because of other's prejudices, she broke the law today and I expect more from this establishment and their personnel, ESPECIALLY the ones dealing with babies and children on a daily basis."

The longest I had to wait for a prescription was 4 hours. It was for an inhaler for my son who was with me, thankfully he didn't need it at the time. That was during the day, though the shortest time I had to wait for a prescription was an hour. That was at 2 in the morning and I was the only one there with my husband, (he ended up in the er that night). What I would like to know is, why the hell did we have to wait so long for those medicines? After those two things, I stopped getting my medicine from there and just paid $10 to go to CVS. When it comes to the staff, nobody knows what the crap they're doing, I know that building better than anyone who works there. Also sitting on the phone waiting for somebody to answer here is a joke.

I have been a patient with the Rheumatology clinic since 2008, and I must say that this clinic helped give me back my life. It is by far the most demanding and important specialty clinic at NMCP. With so many veterans suffering from various rheumatic conditions, I am grateful that the Navy continues to provide us with these services. I have had five Rheumatologists since becoming a patient at NMCP; and all of which who were extremely knowledgeable, caring professionals. My current Rheumatologist is Dr. Eickhoff. He has continued to provide both active duty and retired veterans with exceptional services. He has genuine kindness and concern for his patients, and he treats us with care. I cannot express how grateful I am, and will always be to each of my Rheumatologists and the Rheumatology staff at NMCP. Thank you all for your superb professionalism, support, kindness, intelligence, hospitality and a second chance on life.

We usually go here for all our medical needs but they are always booked up and no appointments available and my wife wasted a lot of her time going to pain management where they pretty much told her to leave and didn't help her and give her more pain meds with her stomach issue she has been dealing with for over a year now. Just had two surgeries last week here and then today won't give her anymore pain meds!

I had corrective nasal surgery here and could not be happier with the results.
I was told by several doctors in the area that Dr. Virginia Teti is an excellent surgeon (one even had her work on his daughter). She was reassuringly confident and has a remarkably calming bedside manner.
Her staff and that of every office I visited in the medical center was nicer and more professional than anything I expected.
Every wing and office I saw was clean. I liked the large photographs of interesting landscapes around the world.
The latest pharmacy system doesn't seem efficient. Took a long time to get some OTC meds.

Wonderful hospital! I had a series of MAJOR surgeries here at Portsmouth. I went in skeptical. You so often hear negative feedback for military healthcare in general. My experiences have been quite the opposite but with a major healthcare decision to make, the negativity lingered in my mind. When I first met my doctors, it was an instant sigh of relief. I knew I was in the right hands. The doctors are more than capable. The nurses and corpsmen were attentive and kind. I'm so glad I made Portsmouth my choice.

Yes, parking sucks. A few of the front desk personnel in various clinics could have benefited from an attitude adjustment. But, in the grand scheme of things these are minor gripes. The excellent care far outweighs a few bad attitudes and the need for more parking spaces. Plan accordingly. You're there because you need to be.

Ever wate in an emergency room lobby for three hours. Well my wife sure did when she had severe abdominal pain during pregnancy. One star is too much for this **** hole. A perfect example of free medical care.

It really depends which department you go to. And being on active duty, we get blown off most of the time. My experience with the mental health department has been amazing. Physical therapy was very good.
Doctor in orthopedics saw me for 5 mins giving me the google speech for my condition. I have 3 bulging discs due to an injury, and he went on to say that they were caused from aging (I'm 27). Clearly didn't read my medical record. Pain management clinic blew me off. Treated me like I was just another number, not a patient. "Everyone that comes here has bulging discs. I have bulging discs" said the doc. Ok, but we're here to talk about helping MY pain. I was treated like a voodoo doll getting all these needles in my spine and nothing helped. So they peaced out and stopped my treatment. Went to a civilian chiropractor and saw a HUGE improvement with my chronic back pain.
ER and pharmacy wait time is hit or miss. Sometimes your wait is short, most of the time it's medium to long.

Wife and I recently gave birth to our first child ...

Wife and I recently gave birth to our first child here and hoped this would be a moment to remember as it should be. Without going into writing a book of everything that went wrong, I'll sum it up in a few examples. Delivery nurses with the exception of a few where rude and challenged my wife's and I about every question we may have had. They never knew my wife was active duty from day we went in to the day we went back in for two week check up. Post delivery was bar far the worst, very combative with my wife and one nurse even argued with her when she asked for a few hours of sleep that even the pediatrician said to ask for. Same nurse then came in ten minutes later to wake baby and mom up. The very next morning my wife was refused breakfast even though she ordered 45min before deadline, was told they are getting ready for lunch. I sat down with two women in charge and filed a complaint. Both women where very apologetic and understood why my wife and I wanted an early discharge. While I understand delivery and service is free it doesn't negate the lack of compassion and empathy we received here. This should have been a magical moment for my wife and I that we where robbed of. I can only hope that this facility changes the way its staff handles patients. This is only a review based on delivery and doesn't reflect the hospital as a whole. I also forgot to mention the morning we went in for our scheduled induction they had my wife scheduled as a c-section, which they tried very hard to cover up even though I heard the nurses say they had her down as a c-section.

If you desire a Natural unmedicated birth they WILL find any little thing to induce you, even if you are healthy and have had a super uncomplicated pregnancy. My husband and I felt like they were constantly trying to scare us. Not the birth I imagined. the care was up and down never consistent. I can think of three people I dealt with that were positive experiences. After delivery we felt like we were in prison. Forget about getting any kind of sleep after delivering your baby because they come in every single hour and are constantly asking if we fed the baby.I m a very private person and they should back off a little. We are grown adults having a baby not children. They tried to keep me another night because of one high blood pressure reading but I had to stand up and tell them what was best for me. I honestly just feel like everyone is scared to do their job, they just just want to take the easiest path not one I think is best for me.I have learned my lesson and will NEVER give birth again in a hospital I will pay the extra money and switch to a birth thing center or home birth. Giving birth is a natural process but they have turned it into a industrial baby factory.

Its sad where my wife would rather go to Patient First or Sentara than come here. Really need to take a fine look at the staff working here to see if they actually care about their profession or are there to just collect a check.

The OBGYN department is horrid, filled with self r...

The OBGYN department is horrid, filled with self righteous, stuck up, barely out of teenage years, arrogant individuals. My wife, who is chronically deaf, is pregnant with twins. This is what some would refer to as a complicated pregnancy, the babies also have twin to twin tranfusion, we now enter the risk realm of pregnancy. High risk. So naturally there is paperwork to be singed and consent to be given. As I attempt to look over a consent form and give proper feedback that I had verified with my wife, I was told that I was not the patient, and was in fact taking away the patients ability to communicate for herself by having looked over a consent form and going over with my wife what all was on it and what seemed odd. Mind you my wife is deaf, and these people seem to forget that every ten seconds as they speak very lightly and expect Her to pick up on everything with her cochlear implant. My issue is simple, these people are very rude and accusatory. How is it that a man is looked upon negatively for attempting to make sure that his wife and children are taken care of? And then flat out talked down to due to having done this. Well, that's a question to ask "dr." Hosople. She's hard to miss, looks like she just finished high school and has her nose stuck so highly you would mistake her for someone of merit. Also, they never communicate, any issues that are seen by one of the "resedents" is never passed on to the next. If you are a husband who wants to assist in assuring the well being of your family, try not to say it too loudly here. And if you're the wife, and you really want your partner to be able to help you with everything that's going on, given the amount of stress it may carry, you might want to hide him under your pillow. That is all.

Surgery is the BEST TEAM! Dr Wagner is on top of the list! she explained complex health matters in a simplified way (Using drawing and visual) highly creative, approachable and professional.
I Had surgery here was seen by Dr Wagner and Douglas both were great. She Called after surgery and listened to my questions and concerns and addressed them in the best way possible. I had surgery in Christmas Eve. and new year eve with short notice! It went well and felt well looked after by her and the team.
Each and every time we communicated She was knowledgeable, approachable, creative and understands my concerns.

Also I have seen Dr Elke and many others for various Department and all of them professional and well trained.

Booking system and calling is a bit of a downside but that has nothing to do with the medical team capabilities.

While I did appreciate the nurses, my birth experience here was a nightmare. I had 3 different docs looking over me to determine if I was actually in labor or not and had me put away in a room for around 4 hours. After they realized that I was actually dilated I was sent to a birth room, I had to walk there though because of something about wheelchairs not being available. I was given an epidural that didn't even work.

Long waits aside, the doctors have been helpful. Dr. called back following day to check on my daughter after a recent ER visit for unspecified abdominal pain. I felt that was very nice.

I delivered 3 of my kids there and Dr. Johnson was fabulous.

E.R is a good look at what "socialized" medicine entails. Just find a good corpsman and you will be squared away nicely!

Don't get prescriptions there if you can help. They have nothing in the formulary if you have an AI disorder.

Much like any type of health facility you will find good and bad. My husband has given up years of his life so that his kids and I have adequate medical coverage. this coverage is not free! It comes at a very high pri

I had been having chest pain for weeks, I had visited multiple hospitals in the area, and each time the doctors looked at me as young, healthy, and ruled out a heart attack and sent me home. Portsmouth Naval took my situation seriously and thoroughly investigated what could be causing my symptoms, and I'm so thankful they did!

The Emergency Room is a whole lot of unethical and unprofessional people. And the entire chain of command helps in the covering up of these misconducts.During a routine appointment at the IPM clinic, The nurse noticed that I wasn't in a normal state and I also explained to her how blizzard my weekend was. She then looked into my medications to figure out if they could be an interaction. To make sure, she even called the pharmacy manager. After finding the interaction, they decided I should go to the ER for a check up. I certainly didn't want to go at first as every time I was there for my chronic pain, I was treated like I was faking my distress. Knowing that, the nurse decided to go with me and explained to them what was going on.I was seen by a certain Calderon, Gabriel who was so disrespectful . Even though I responded no to his previous questions about me using illegal drugs, he kept asking me how often I was using. Then he started to ask me about my origines and how I was able to enter the US and the navy. To show him How uncomfortable I was I asked him if I was supposed to worry about anything wrong with my health and he responded you tell me . On that, I told him he was beyond disrespectful, left and I went back to the IPM clinic. I let the nurse know
what happened and we went together at the Patient Guest Relation to report the incident. After the ER was informed of my report, they called me back to be seen by a different provider. This is when an actual drug test and other blood work were done showing a few vitamin deficiencies. Although Calderon, Gabriel did not actually take care of me, he was the one who fully filled my medical record with many lies . e.g. he didn't know I left the ER; I left in my car; I left for personal reasons;.... and there was no entry by the second doctor who actually took care of me.
After two complaints, one of those went to the commanding officer but no action was taken. Everything was accurate and lawful! I rather die than having to be treated in ER again.

They have a lot of attitudes. People are there because they don't feel good and then they have to put up with there none professional services. Especially the people at the front desk. It's not the patient fault you have that job don't take it out on us. We are a military family. We protect your freedom and you pay us with nonsense. I give it a 1 star. I recommend if you don't like your job, go to school maybe you can get a better job.
