Beautiful modern zoo. The animals have adequate space and are well kept. Varied fauna. Nice also the small aquarium inside the zoo. The only flaw, the bathrooms are not well indicated. I only found them at the structures like aquarium and planetarium.

Artis is the oldest zoo in the Netherlands, in the centre of Amsterdam. One of the greatest zoos to visit. Many different animals to see.

A truly unique and surprising zoo ... Very large and welcoming, the thing that leaves you speechless is that many animals are only free! Small lemurs, small kangaroos, birds of all kinds, monkeys, bats, squirrels, sloths and owls ... Never seen such a thing ... Also present a pair of lions, chimpanzees gorillas jaguars giraffes .. Inside then there are 3 separate areas: the world of insects, that of fish and forest .. There are 2 restaurants, a cafeteria, public toilets ... The only "out of tune" note and that since there are free animals, on the ground at certain points especially by birds there is a lot of dirt ... Absolutely to visit !!!

Great zoo, though the elephants and lions seem a bit cramped. Go see the insects and sea lions.

Nice to look around for a day and experience everything. The animals can be seen up close. Watching a movie in the planetarium is also beautiful. Parking around the corner, but 10 for a day ticket.

Artis was great. We were not satisfied with the restaurant. The coffee was fine, the pastries had no taste and the costs were high. A bottle of Heineken was worth four euros. So we didn't take it either.

Nice zoo. Beautiful animals stay but also very beautiful flora and fauna. Not too busy now with new Corona rules.

Found it very busy with this corona time especially in the stays no one thought of 1.5 meters

It's not only the animals, it's the setting, with plants, flowers and trees like in a botanic garden. Animals are well kept.

A day at Artis is always fun and every time just a little different than your previous visit. Not cheap, unfortunately that is part of Amsterdam. Enough to do for a family day out.

What a lovely Zoo to visit. It's very clean & the staff are all very polite. Its has a good mix of Animals with really lovely enclosures. We were even impressed with the planting around the whole site, a lovely mix of plants.Would I go back.. Yes.

Beautiful zoo with lots to see and do! Nice centrally located in the center and therefore easily accessible by public transport.

A wonderful entourage of animals from all over the world. Everything from mammals and birds to reptiles and amphibians. This place has all the big ticket animals like elephants and giraffes. Even the tiny, blue poison dart frogs. Alongside the zoo is a museum of microbiology, this has a separate admission price not included with the main zoo. I would highly recommend visiting this place as it is great for all ages.

Beautiful zoo with a subtle underlying but clear message to the visitors.
We visit many zoos and yet Artis has pleasantly surprised us, they have special animals that I had never seen in other parks.
In addition, it is really a very beautiful park with centuries old trees and buildings.
And that a 20 minute walk from the central station in the heart of Amsterdam, we really had a wonderful day!

An intercity Zoo, but not one of the best I have been to. Some animals, such as polar bear had small enclosure and were displaying repetitive stress related behaviour which was disturbing and stuck in the memory. I didn't think the welfare of animals here in general was as good as some other Zoo's i have visited.

Very nice ZOO with lot of interesting animals. Also nice programs, especially with the sea lions! (Maybe, I would improove a bit the food and toilet service, though, I'm still giving it 5 stars! ;)

Surprising nature park in the heart of Amsterdam. Not particularly large but a variety of animals. Nice park to go with children for a day.

The first visit to this park-zoo I made it as a school trip during elementary school. Afterwards he visited two more times, the last one as a family group where my son and his cousin were also present. My son's interest was certainly there, while in Turin the zoo (one much smaller and more 'arranged') had been closed years earlier. You can spend hours there and inside there are bar-restaurants and toilets. Well kept.

Dude. This zoo has Komodo dragons. Just go so you can tell everyone that you went to a zoo in Amsterdam. They ll think you re crazy until they see all your pictures. Then they ll just be jealous.

Beautiful old city zoo with more and more space for the animals

It was a fun time! Lots of different animals, but it closes early so we had to skip the last part unfortunately.

The enclosures of the animals are becoming more beautiful, more spacious and more 'natural'

Was a lovely day out. Many different animals to see. Great for families. We were lucky and has a beautiful sunny day there. But if it is raining there are still options to view the animals inside different enclosures. The only reason the did not get 5 starts is it is quite expensive. But still an amazing day out!

We are Artis members and we always have a lot of praise for everything that is organized. Yesterday we made a reservation for Wednesday 23 July for the first time this year. On the website it said it was not busy and that we could park.
We arrived on time from Almere but already saw a long queue outside including groups. I got out to check and my husband tried to park. It did not work. He was in a traffic jam outside the parking lot and our time was ticking. People around me did not keep their distance and within the fences I saw rows of people who did not keep their distance either. It made me pretty stuffy. We went back to Almere. What a disappointment! Couldn't the first check at the outside gate be better staffed? One employee was not enough for all questions. Very sorry.

Great, but no smoking in the garden restaurant. Does not work !!!

Been here for the second time now. First time was 5 years ago so I couldn't really remember anything anymore. It was a nice zoo. Everything was well organized around the corona rules. Because it was a warm day, it was quiet in the park so you could keep your distance. Some roads were one-way. The park itself was very nice to see, you can spend half a day in it. But not much longer because you have seen a bit of everything. I did notice that the lofts were a bit smaller. But of course it is a zoo in the middle of the city. The aquarium was a bit disappointing as I personally expected / hoped for something more. But otherwise it was a nice zoo. Definitely recommended if you like the zoo.

It is the oldest zoo in the Netherlands and one of the oldest zoos of mainland Europe. Great for picnics and kids have a lot of fun. Big playground near the cafeteria is perfect to take a break.

Artis has improved a lot since I was little. Many animals have larger stays instead of small cages, and you often have the chance to get very close. Very nice zoo!

Beautiful zoo, the only thing that's bothering us is the fact that the lion is in a very small territory.

ARTIS is definitely worth visiting. Had a great day there from noon till closing, and still wasn't able to see and visit everything. The restaurants inside are also nice with good options but a bit pricey. The adjoining Micropia museum is also a good choice.

Fine but not so special city zoo. Not better than the average zoo. Only smaller.

This zoo from 1838 is of course a phenomenon!
Whatever you can find of confined animals in cages. Here they really take responsibility for animal welfare and the first adage from 1838 Natura Artis Magistra ("nature is the teacher of art") is of paramount importance.
Add to that the beautiful collection of trees, the beautiful park itself and the excellent, almost vegetarian catering, and you have a great day out with lots of information and of course great with children.
All employees who speak to you have or make time for an explanation and the lunch in the splinter splinter new location De Kas was almost worthy of Michelin star.
In short, with all types of weather and even in this Corona time, a must.

The zoo dating 1838 is a phenomenon. Whatever you may think of animal in cages, this zoo really lives up to its founding principle Natura Artis Magistra ("nature is the teacher of art"). Add to that the magnificent tree collection, the park itself and the superb Vega food options and you have a perfect day out, with lots of info and of course great with children and teens.
All the personal I spoke takes time to explain things and volunteers are everywhere to do the same. The lunch I had in the brand new location called "de kas", dutch for the glasshouse reached an almost Michelin star height.
To put in sort; go there, this place has it all. No matter the weather and even in this Covid 19 time.

A bit dirty but nice with the bacteria next to the zoo.

Who doesnt love animals? Only wish that they could run freely than keeping in cages.
