Gives a great oversight into the struggles of both Native Americans and those put into slavery.

Great project presentations by students and performances by students. Definitely want to come back and see the exhibits.
Had a great time this was done so well. A lot of history, a lot to take in. We needed more time. Would go back . A must see.
Very great place to bring your children to learn about what happened in the past and how they lived in that time
Its very informative but yet a somber remembrance of how times where and are till this day
A must visit for anyone interested in history, the civil war, or interested in cultural struggles of others.
you need a whole day to sit down an really go through this place
A wonderful experience for both children and adults. The museum fairly and deeply engages in America's troubled history with slavery and the issues of slavery remaining in the world today
Very interesting & cultural sensitive fact finding that can be appreciated at a relaxing pace. History in live & living color. At point of my visit the gift shop was not opened yet.
We probably should have gotten a tour guide. We spent most of our time in the modern day slavery exhibit. And some on the second floor. We didn't have time to watch the films. Smaller than expected. Well organized space.
Very beautiful building, great learning experience, and eye opening
This place is simply amazing. If you're a history buff, you will enjoy.
This place is beautiful. It will make you cry, and if doesn't then I don't know what else will.
This was amazing!! I so enjoyed this. The best I have been too! Worth the experience!
Great museum, historically-located on the NORTH bank of the Ohio river. Two exhibits of mention: 1) the actual slave cabin transplanted to the site with a set of leg irons on the floor. 2) the video/immersive experience.
It is museums like this, with a social conscience, that makes this country great!
Great exhibits, especially the slave pen and human trafficking section.
Wonderful, painful. Going in Feb. was great. Had special performances and free admission.
Really puts things into perspective! The new human trafficking exhibit was hard to handle but very eye opening.
Definitely a place to come when in Cincinnati. An eye opening experience for you and your family.
Disappointed was unable to purchase gifts to bring back home.
Great experience! Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable!
I thought it was a great learning opportunity and was helpful in understanding the history of what African Americans went through during the beginning of our American history.
Very powerful museum. Learned so much in the little bit of time I was able to spend here. Definitely will return when I have more time to soak up the information.
Awesome! A must if visiting and wanting to enjoy history.
Wow! This place is amazing. Go when you have plenty of time and not in a rush. Place your phone on silent mode and prepare yourself for a wealth of information
I loved this because it has loads of info and historical stuff.
I wasn't exactly sure what to expect here but i came away having learned alot and had a great time.
Awesome experiences with thought provoking events & speakers'
A good place for those interested in visiting Museums
We all really learned a lot and what was on display was intetesting... BUT... we were sorely disappointed that the UNDERGROUND RAILROAD was such a small... almost nonexistent... part. We went there to specifically learn more about that aspect.
i was a good place to be and learn about the salve the history of the world's background of black andwhite how it was back them....
Somber and moving, with well thought out exhibits. Gorgeous pace, through and through. I didn't read half of the information and we still were there for a couple of hours. I don't recommend taking young children here, but older children will get a sense of the truth of the situation in the past. I highly recommend as a great way to spend an afternoon.
Great experience if I ever return to Cincinnati I'm going back
Great experience, but I thought there would be more on the actual Underground Railroad.
Museum about slavery and freedom...good educative one
Very good tour info I was not aware of very educational
Very modern and well laid out. Self guided, at your own pace. Lots of displays, some are 'hands on'. They have a full size cabin inside and many historical items to view. Great for any age. Plan on at least 1 to 2 hours, at least.
You learn a lot about history in a fun but very entertaining way. Also getting educated all in one swoop.
Wow, what an experience! This museum offers a very candid look at a terrible time in our nation's past. I learned a lot during my time here, and was very touched.
Going off from attending a field trip to the freedom center, it was OK. However, there was only little information I never was really taught in school. Everything was a review, and I could tell the other students I was with did not want to be here. Everyone became more tired and uninterested as more facts and lessons were being taught. For an impressive amount of space in the building, almost half of the space was pretty much empty and it could have been used for so much more. In the space that was already filled, there wasn't a lot of artifacts or relics from the time that slavery was still going on. A majority of what I saw was a short film, and barely nothing from slavery time. And this place does not seem worth while to go to a second time. If this is your first time making a trip to the freedom, I will not judge you for that. However, after reading this review, you might want to reconsider your trip.
Neat visit, prices to get in are a little high. Very eye opening and unqie. Try to go at least once. Took about 2 hours with medium aged kids.
Not much information
But the environment is beautiful
Facing the OHIO River, the scenery is beautiful
Although the river is khaki
Is it dirty
Very nice. Really enjoyed spending a couple hours here with my wife, as large as the building is I kinda expected more to look at but I still enjoyed what was there
Great artwork and artifacts, needs more information, stories and props to paint a better story.
Offers student discount. Spacious and many meaningful exhibitions.
Unbelievable! Heart wrenching, yet AWESOME! This museum needs to be in every major city!!! Field trips to them should be part of curriculum. Words cannot describe the eye opening impact it had on me.
Lots of information, not the best for young children though. Not too bad considering its a museum.
History galore. Wish I could of spent more time there
Very interesting and informative. Beautiful design of the museum and easy to navigate through.
This is an amazingly poignant reflection on the cause of freedom for African people in North America, specifically the United States of America. As well, there are exhibits which speak to the cause of freedom and against the scourge of bondage, in this museum.
The historicity of the photography is astounding. The beautiful imagery juxtaposed against the rugged violence of the denial of basic human rights is both illuminating and jolting.
Set in four floors within a building built on the banks of the river front of the Ohio River (the River Jordan for those seeking a return to their freedom), this museum speaks to the unquenchable thirst of human dignity in freedom. Film, photographs, artifacts, and an extensive walking tour (narrated on iPhone app, if you prefer),
It is an indispensable portion of discovering our American history, featuring Harriet Tubman Theater, a pen used in bondage, Brothers of the Borderland, Everyday Freedom Heroes, etc.
Excellent information about a tragic history of slavery & the brave people who helped end this terrible injustices
All people should visit, especially all our politicians & leaders to not repeat any of this! Excellent displays about things we can do to help those still in slavery.
Spectacular, constantly changing, thought provoking, and very moving...We have now been to this museum 5 full days over the last 6 years. It is one of our favorite locations when we visit the area. The museum's location on the banks of the Ohio River in Cincinnati is a stark reminder of slave state/free state divide the museum commenorates. Before manumission, thousands of people died escaping slavery in the southern US, to cross the Ohio where they would be free.
One of the exhibits is a "slave pen", this 2 story building designed to hold slaves in transit or on labor detail was painstakingly disassembled on a farm in KY and reassembled in the museum by eminent historians. It has barred windows and chain centers built in. It represents thousands of such buildings that existed historically throughout the southern US in our shameful 400 year experiment with slavery.
The museum also highlights the scourge of modern slavery (especially of women and children) throughout the world and the efforts underway to stop it. Exhibits also celebrate some of America's victories over slavery in the last 2 centuries. Sadly others documents the modern, shameful attempts to recreate slavery, as an "Jim Crow" economy, or more recently, the US "Prison System", that we are still fighting in America.
This museum displays in historical examples and in art the pain and the progress of the fight for freedom in America.
Very well done museum on slavery including in the US and world today.
The museum is so educational. The knowledge combined with visuals was a bit overwhelming for my 5yr old daughter. I recommend everyone to attend at least once. I definitely plan to attend again (several times).
This place was worth every dollar. It was eye opening and thought provoking. The atmosphere was somber and respectful, the staff does a great job of maintaining the correct mood. Of the two exhibits I have been to, the one about modern day slavery hit me the most. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to learn more about slavery, or wants to learn how to end slavery now.
I enjoyed the Freedom center. I was there on a field trip so I did not get to see as much as I would have liked. I plan to go back.
Need better lighting and, in many cases, larger print.
Such a educational place, and a beautiful view at bight
