Small gallery (it has less than 10 rooms and the gift shop is the most impressive). Although nice, it's not particularly interesting. Only worth a visit if you have 30min to kill.

Large gallery housing a great collection of fine art, including the wonderful 'Taking of Christ' by Caravaggio. The modern wing is spacious with beautiful polished concrete walls. Free entry to see the permanent collection, special exhibitions may have a separate fee. Good museum shop.

The Caravaggio is on the third floor, room 41. I liked that they put it right in front of what they believed to be his previous author (Gherardo delle notti) and that all the paintings in that room speak expressions of amazement

I recommend it even with teens to tell you! On several floors there is something to do, especially I loved the exhibition on the stained glass. Our teens took time even though our Irish leader groups had imposed us 1h30. I advise you to prepare your basics to explain to interested teens. If you have more budget rent portable guides.

A fantastic way to spend an often rainy afternoon in Dublin. There is ample opportunities throughout to sit and enjoy the art pieces, and the gallery is spacious and well lit. The giftshop is also a haven for art enthusiasts with many books and postcards on sale.

I went when they had a special exhibit of Vermeer and his contemporaries which I found absolutely fantastic and educational. Their in-house collection is nice too. I especially liked Jack B Yeats's paintings.

A fabulous gallery exhibiting an array of artwork dating back to the Dutch painters through to modern Irish artists. The gallery is a beautiful building in itself and has some wonderful spaces with gorgeous light and modern artwork being highlighted in this spots. Well worth a visit while in Dublin.

This was a must-see for me after watching the Superb documentary about the refurbishment of the gallery. It didn't disappoint. The collection is superb, far better than I ever appreciated. I'm even more amazed that I could recommend this as a family day out.

My kids adored the Audio guides. You know an art gallery has its younger audience well catered for when a ten year old insists on seeing the portrait gallery after three hours. They're not particularly into art but really enjoyed it.

The refurbishment is magnificent. The staff were great. Even lunch was superb. Faultless. Absolutely essential to visit.

Absolutely riveting experience, also absolutely boring if you don't enjoy art. There are some anatomy paintings and sculptures to keep the sophomoric like myself engaged in the content. As always the people in Ireland and here are wonderful and very easy to get along with. The security guards here like to chit chat too if you find yourself with questions or needing entertainment.

Fantastic art gallery with paintings from the most remarkable painters in Europe from all the times. Good facilities and galleries in a beautiful building despite its weird distribution, sometimes impossible to find the way to get to other wing or gallery.
