Probably not a fair rating. I popped in randomly when passing, for the first time in ages. I entered from Clare Street, and didn't have much time. There seemed to be a lot of staff. I had time to glance at some of archive stuff about the historical role of women in art, etc., and some of the exhibit on drawings of Dublin. Interesting enough, but not really inspiring - at least at first glance. I must visit again soon.

On our last day in Dublin we visited the National Gallery. It contains many beautiful pieces of painted art, delicate sculptures and handsome portraits. I highly recommend the Gallery. Just be careful because it can be confusing to navigate.

Review of National Gallery cafe:

Review of National Gallery cafe:

I m giving them 4/5 green stars for social and environmental impact. It could be higher (or lower) but there s really not a huge amount of information available to judge them by. It s run by Itsa, who own a ridiculous number of places around the city (Itsa Bagels, Hatch & Sons, Alchemy Juice Co., and various cafes in places from MOMA to Arnotts). Considering that Itsa are now so large, and that one of the founders (Domini Kemp) has been a food writer for the Irish Times for years, it would be nice if they provided more info about their food sourcing and sustainability. They do state that their coffee is ethically sourced, but don t provide information on the coffee beyond this. Their hot chocolate is made with Fair Trade cocoa. They list sources for a few ingredients (G s chutney, Dubliner cheddar, Wicklow brie) but don t provide any information on the majority of them (Is it organic? Where was it grown? Is it free range? Who is the supplier? etc.). It s a woman-owned business (the Kemp sisters), and they are involved in community activities. Judging by the menu in Itsa in Sandymount (organic burger, free range chicken, organic mash...) they do use some sustainable/ethical ingredients but just aren t that great about communicating this. More transparency please!

We went to the Canaletto exhibition and it was great value for money, under 16 free and 15 for over. I reccommend getting the audio tour which comes free. You can book it on their website up until 24th March 2019. Or you could walk around the main area (for free) get something to eat and buy some souvenirs

Beautiful experience, a very interesting gallery, I also had the pleasure of seeing a painting by Caravaggio (I didn't think of finding one here)! In general it is an experience I recommend if you visit this city. Admission is free but if you want you can leave a free offer. Consider that it takes at least half a day to see everything.

Very nice to visit, we have been there in more than an hour to turn it all over and we are not great connoisseurs of art.
Free admission and public WiFi. There was a bar / self-service for those wishing to eat there and a gift shop.
