DO NOT COME HERE.
Please trust me and do not come here.
Great place to ski for families and beginner skiers or snowboarders. Close to Calgary so makes for an easy commute...
Great family oriented hill. Affordable, only an hour outside Calgary. Only knock is the snow is not as nice as the windward (west) side of the mountain. So, lota of man made on groomers.
Used the day parking to access the troll falls hike. It was lit
Bit of an icy hill in general but if you head up the gold chair and the monster glades up there you'll get some really nice runs. Bit more of a skier hill than a snowboarding hill but overall it's really a nice starting hill. Good greens and good place to learn the basics.
Nice ski resort, it's a lot like Lake Louise, just smaller.
Fantastic resort so close to home. Great place for kids
Nice and close to Calgary but usually icy sections on the main runs. If there's been new snow the glades can be enjoyable. Remember there is a mid hill lodge to have lunch in if the main lodge is busy.
One of the closest ski hills to Calgary. Easy to get to and a short drive away from the city. Runs are great when there s fresh snow! Plenty of parking pretty close to the main lodge and chairlift means a short walk of only a few minutes from your car until you re on the hill.
The base of the hill gets busy later in the morning (after 10ish through till about 1-130pm) and then opens up again after that. As long as you stay on the higher chairs and runs you won t have to deal with huge lines every time you want a ride back up the hill.
Leaving at the end of the day when lifts are closing can be a bit slow. There s a stop sign before you can turn back onto the highway and traffic backs up sometimes from the highway to the parking lot. If you re only going to ski for one day you can afford the extra 20-30 min it will take to leave since the hill is so close to the city. But if you re looking to buy a pass or multiple lift tickets for this hill over a season I d leave earlier in the afternoon and save yourself the traffic on the way out.
Love the ski resorts the men in the ticket booth was very helpful to us specially to my friend easy to get your ticket they are also organizing and very helpful think you keep it up love the place clean and very beautiful
Awesome hill, especially for families and new learners! You can get affordable lift tickets (or seasons passes) and it's less than an hour from Calgary. It can be quite busy before all the runs open for the season, but I can't overstate how great it is to learn on. Prices at the lodges are steep, so packing your own lunch isn't a bad idea.
A great day skiing! The weather and runs were super.
Pricing is steep for the size of hill. It's a great place to take people who are learning.
Fun place to visit really family orientated. They have some really cool add on packages for the season pass and it's very affordable. I have a family season pass for myself and the other 5 people in my family. Praying for more snow tho so we can explore more of the mountain
Ski resort near Calgary.
One hour from Calgary.
Kananaskis is about 25 kilometers away, and the closest is the biggest advantage.
Price, course is a bit unfortunate.
There are about 5 or 6 lifts, and there are intermediate lodges.
It is also a ski elite training since childhood and is a ski resort designed for the old Calgary Olympics.
There is a slope with a wide slope.
The level of snow is probably lower than that of Banff and Lake Louise, and is usually snow.
There are many crowds on weekends.
The distance between the parking lot and the slope is short.
Inside the main lodge there is a hot water supply. Cup ramen is good to eat. In the main lodge, skiing students are all occupied.
The price is more than $ 80 a day, but if you're just going to play, I recommend going to Banff Ski Area instead of Nakiska.
First time snowboarding in a long time and had so much fun there. Loved they're covid protocols and will be coming back.
They like to close a few minutes early most days and blame the ski patrol. Also blew they opportunity to make early season snow and instead of opening early they pushed back their opening. Who cares about season pass holders? They got their money
I love to came to Nakiska Mountain but the food is bad the hamburgers is really bad the coffee is bad to and the price is to high
On "Lift Status" tab of website: 3 lifts open
Reality: magic carpet and bronze
Went to talk to customer service and they said other lifts will be open "soon". Won't sell friend half day pass half an hour early to make up for this... First and last season pass here, shame they don't put in the same effort as Sunshine. Sunshine once refunded my day pass because a lift stopped halfway through the day. Sunshine's facilities are open earlier in the season, better quality, and way better staff. I really wanted to like Nakiska as it was so close to Calgary.
Nakiska is a great place to ski. The trails are well maintained and staff are very friendly. Also, you can see some high performance athletes at training here. I recommend this place!
Great snow. Lovely weather. Busy, guess others thought good day to go also.
Overall the park is fine, but the runs are very icy from the man made snow.. The lines are not that bad but it can get pretty crowded there. I took a class here and the staff were nice. I would recommend you come here as it is very convenient.
The mountain I most confuse with "Norquay" in conversations.
Amazing hills and staff! We got 2 adult half-day tickets (around $70 each). With those tickets we got to ski from 12:30pm until the last call for ski lift rides (4pm)! The scenery is amazing, we we're in the middle of all of the beautiful mountains. The staff were very friendly and quick to help (I didn't get off the ski lift in time once lol and I received help without hesitation). The snow was very easy to ski on, and the paths were all clearly marked with signs (difficulty, names, "SLOW", "CAUTION", etc). In addition to skiing they also have tubing and snowboarding. The tubing costed $10 per adult and $5 per child. Unfortunately I didn't catch prices for the other sports. There is also a cafe (beer, hot drinks, food) and lockers ($14 for the day, can be opened repeatedly). The washrooms are very large and tidy as well. There is also free TELUS wifi, you just need to sign up with email (takes like 5 seconds). Overall we had a very amazing experience and will definitely be returning soon!
Dec1st, early season condition. Majority of the runs are still closed - not worth a full day ticket price at this time. I dont think it is right to advertise "season opener weekend" when you still did not complete grooming runs with artificial snow, especially not when asking for a full price!!!
Not the biggest hill. Not the best snow. Always have a great time with my family!
Very cool ski hill didn't realize till a little that day they we're celebrating 30yrs there that the '88 Olympics we're here
Good snow and lots of different trails for all skill levels. Busy busy on weekends.
Tickets are really expensive if you don't have season passes.
Nakiska gets a bad rep but it has a lot going for it. It's good value, you can park literally right at the entrance pretty easily, it has more than enough seating to eat, it doesn't get as busy without tourists as sunshine and the slopes can be great, especially for beginners.
The negative is it can get icy, it's not as bad as some people make out, but I make a point of only going after there's been some snowfall. When there's fresh snow it's great!
Did not feel safe. Very poor COVID measures in place. There was no distancing in lift lineups (lake louise has markers indicating two meters), riders are permitted to ride with those not in their household, and lift staff did not all wear real masks - sometimes just a neck warmer over their face. Very disappointing from a resort that had an outbreak among their staff in December. One positive is that you can reserve online and scan at the resort to print tour ticket. Also wasn't too busy, at least for the Olympic chair.
Great place for skiing. This is the first year we got our family pass and it worth every dollar. Will come back again and again.
Nikiska was awesome. Great selection of runs and great for an intermediate skier. I had a great time and when you get of the lift you can look around and see the mountains. It is cool. Also the staff where very nice.
Every ski area has its own flavour.Though terrain and snow options are not as varied as the main ski areas in the Banff area Nakiska has its own unique feel. As a main race training centre in the region the number of high performance skiers on the slopes at any one time is striking. This focus from the area provides for an unparalleled number of safety fenced runs available to ski fast on with after the teams are done. Though something that the general public may even be aware of this is a hidden bonus for anyone who really wants to rip. Snowmaking is excellent. The only downside can be when the mixture of speed demons and slowpokes creates an unpredictable mix of pathways on the slopes. My suggestion is to skip weekends when the crowds are greatest and try a taste of this Olympic legacy midweek.
Great ski hill! There are a fair number of runs, but what really makes this hill stand out is the length of the runs! They're all really long and in great condition. I went with my whole family, ranging in age from 11 to 40 and there was a good variety of difficulty for all of us, especially since the runs are interconnected, making it easy to create variety when you choose different routes down.
Amazing trails! Well maintained, with a good staff. 1h from Calgary downtown.
The quality is a hit or miss, can range from very good to relatively poor while being considered "Groomed" both times. With that in mind Nakiska offers a lot of slopes from beginners to Olympic training.
Great ski hill for beginners and intermediate skiers
Nakiska is a good old venue with decent amenities and good pricing.
One word of advice though: skip the tube run, or at the very least check it out before you buy a pass. It's not all that exciting for anyone but the smallest children.
Good times!!! My son and i hit up the kids zone. 2 magic carpets on either side. Little busy but i feel like thats normal. We had fun
Great place for skiing and snowboarding that is close to the city.
Great little ski hill only 45 minutes from Calgary! Lots of snow from December onwards, if you head up on a weekday you'll have whole runs to yourself. Not as large as Sunshine or Louise but enough to fill a day. Check out the Glades area if you're into tree runs.
Such a versatile hill. Super close to YYC. Lots of great runs and friendly staff. It's not Sunshine or Louise and that's ok.
Lovely ski resort with helpful staff and trails. My only ask would be that the trail maps had some of those 'you are here' markers. I got a tiny bit lost.
Not very busy yet, prices for food and hot chocolate are up.
Less expensive than most ski areas, the paths are wider, and they always have snow machines out when its icy. Best place for beginner snowboarders!
Bad advertising on the website and even worse customer service. I mean it's not fair to say all staff is bad; it was just the manager I dealt with in my case. It's no wonder they keep her locked in the office in the back. The website says terrain park is open at 10am everyday and apparently that doesn't mean it's open. I asked for some sort of discount to return when the park is open and that was not happening on her watch. Even worse the park is 99% complete. It just needs someone to grab a rake and finish it up. So sad seeing ski hills lose the customer service they once were so famous for. I know those hills are still out there but unfortunately I won't be spending any of my cash at this resort again.
Nice, lots of snow this time, a little cold, but lot of fun. Fast running chair, not too many people. I enjoyed it a lot. Only one fall :-)
My favourite ski hill to date. I first learned how to ski on this mountain years ago, and it's definitely my go to. The short drive from Calgary, paired with nice runs and friendly staff all make for a great experience. It's the perfect hill for beginners and people wanting to work on their technical skill. Easy green runs, fun blue runs and adequately challenging black runs, so it's truly for all skill levels. The runs themselves can be relatively short compared to Lake Louise, but the lift waiting times in the morning are about non-existent, so you'll be back on the hill in no time. I would recommend on bringing a lunch, as the food can be a bit pricy (but it is yummy!).
This is a hill about 1 and a half hours from Calgary. The hill is decent, the day we were out, there was lots of powder, and the runs were well groomed. If you are planning on going, I suggest you buy a discounted pass from Costco to save you significant money on the lift pass. There is snow tubing and snow shoes available. The snow shoes has two starts time of 8 and 2 according to the signage. Also there is half day tickets available starting at 1230. The bronze runs are good for beginners, while the silver runs appear to be the most popular. If you are planning on attending, bring your own lunch. The burgers we had were quite dry and bland. The fries were good with a proper amount of crunch and saltiness though. You will pay approximately 425 for most bottled drinks from the cafeteria. The hill is quite popular with families so expect a lot of kids on the runs. The silver runs are quite wide, although if you are a boarder there are quite a few flat spots which can be annoying. Not my favorite hill, but driving time and cost make this hill worth considering.
Close to Calgary, good variety of runs, great cruiser runs and glades.
Other than charging import prices for domestic beers it's not too bad
This is a great family ski hill close to calgary. Great for skiing groomers and cruiser type runs. About 50 minutes from the west side of the city which is really nice. A reasonable magic carpet and beginner's area make this a good learning hill. The only drawback about Nakiska is that there a lot of racers here and I notice that Nakiska has had to step up some speed enforcement in beginner's areas to keep people skiing at a reasonable pace. The last few years they have also sold season passes for a very reasonable price.
Love this hill! Has enough easy stuff for the beginners and enough challenge for the better skiers/boarders. I'm not a fan of the main run to the base, else 5 stars.
Well priced compared to the competition. Good variety. Best of all, pooches are welcome!!!
Great place to go skiing during the week. The instructors and hill are fabulous!
Great mountain, especially when its only 45 mins outside of Calgary
Definitely more of a beginners hill but still great. The staff were friendly and the hill was good. They even had a few black runs open. They have snow machines and groom their runs allowing them to have runs open longer than other hills. Close to town so it doesn't feel like your traveling more than hitting the slopes.
