If you live in Calgary it's a great choice right now. The cheapest hill to use. Only problem is the season is shorter than others.

Although not the best ski resort near Calgary, this place is the closest natural ski resort. There are many snow trails here, and there are several levels of ski lifts to suit the level of skiing of different levels of difficulty. There are two magic carpets here, but sometimes no one checks. Take the magic carpet to the place, this is the best for beginners. However, the altitude here is not high, and the snow here is often artificially made, so the snow quality of the mountain slopes is not so soft. There are restaurants, bars and even kindergartens, especially for those who bring their children together but the children can't ski. The childcare fee for the annual card holder is 10% discount, and the day is about 120 yuan. There are two parking lots here, and there are a lot of parking spaces. If you come late, you will stop at a very long distance. It is very painful to wear snow boots and ski equipment so far. I hope everyone can have fun here!
Nakiska is a great place to ski for a number of reasons as long as it matches what you are looking for. If you are looking for powder to ski through, drive a little further. If you are looking for tree runs you'll only find them off the top of the gold chair. If you are looking for a hill with short lines at the lifts, Nakiska on a weekend afternoon is not a good place to be. However if you are looking for affordable lessons with great instructors Nakiska is a great option, if you are looking for some mountain runs that are an hour out of Calgary Nakiska is perfect. Short lines in the AM gets you fresh groomed runs before the snow gets shaved down to the ice that is here if it hasn't gotten a dump for a while. We pack lunches as it should be no surprise it can get expensive to purchase on the hill, though the bagged taco salad mid-mountain rocks.
Close to the city, average slopes, decent prices on food.
Great ski hill for the whole family. It's got everything for all levels and great staff!
Good hill and lodge. Cafeteria is often quite expensive.
Not big but good enough to spend a day with your family and it's close to Calgary.
The restaurant and other services are not good at all.
Not the biggest mountain, but it's only an hour from Calgary. Snow conditions this year are great so far. One of the most scenic drives into a ski area anywhere!
I just have been here with my daughter. Hwre is this one really good for families.
Thanx.
Went today on opening weekend. Limited runs open.....but we knew this coming in. We are from ottawa and this was our first time riding out west. Very, very busy and congested on the hills.....this comes standard on opening weekend at any other resort, anywhere you go. Upper run was icey..... but if you hooked off to the left the powder was amaaaaazing. Fun time for sure.
I mean they managed to open in freaking October this year. What am I gonna do? Rate it one star?
But it's also nakiska? What am I gonna do? Rate it five stars?
What do you want from me Google reviews?
Really nice ski hill. 90 minutes from Calgary SW. Bottom silver high speed detachable quad chair (7'-10") connects to mid-mountain gold quad chair (+5'-46" to top). Skiing top to bottom takes me just under 10 minutes at a decent pace. I'm a level 4 skier. Lots of trails with some really interesting terrain keeps me coming back. This is my 3rd consecutive season pass. Early bird season pass cost me less than $250. Individual lift tickets cost around $90. 1/2 day tickets start at 12.15pm. Not sure of the 1/2 day ticket cost. Nice full service chalet, with upstairs bar/ lounge.
Slopes were quite icy, not so much fun for the kids. Lineups at the lifts were quite long, but that was to be expected, these days everything is moving slower.
At Nakiska, you can have a lot of fun, but try to go on a day that is not icy (Most days are) This will make your experience much more enjoyable. If no snow days are coming up anytime soon, just go to Sunshine or Louise. It is pretty bad compared to other ski resorts, but it's still a chance to ski close and cheap for a busier weekend.
Great ski hill with very friendly and helpful staff
Runs were nicely groomed but the food in the chalet is too pricey for the quality. Overall good experience :)
If get here on the right days with less people, it's really good for practicing your form and skiing skill for any level
Great ski hill to start skiing again as a family. We start lessons in January and I think for my daughter who's never been on skiis til Christmas it will be a good start. Family lift tickets were very affordable when bought in the summer for this year.
This is my go to ski hill. Great value season passes during early bird sale. Groomers are a little icy at the top of the hill. Redeeming factor of this hill is the glades no doubt
Went during the week and didn't have to wait in line at all for the lifts.
As a west coast regular, I enjoy the power dry snow conditions here. The Rocky Mountain aesthetic is stunning. It s a great family resort with some good fun options for experienced skiers. I would consider this place a fun resort. Come for the ease of it as opposed to the terrain.
1 lift open on a Saturday, wouldn't give my friend a half day pass at 11:30am to make up for this. Lacking staff/services. Last time buying a season pass to this hill - Sunshine is worth the drive for more runs, better facility and staff.
It was okay, quite cold, and very icy, but I can see how this would be nice if the weather was difference
Love this spot! We bring our family from the Edmonton area at least once a year. We love the greens and blues so this hill is perfect for us. We were there on a Monday and had no line ups at all!
We even ate at the concession this year and it was delicious.
Nakiska is a true family mountain. We love this place. Close to home, good value, great service. I needed my edges fixed, dropped in and in 10 mins I was out on the slopes again. Geat terrain for the fam and tons of fun!
Nice small hill, bit icy and the wind likes to blow the snowfall away a bit. Well worth the skiing g as much closer to Calgary then the National Park ski hills.
Duplo Lego play set was a great addition today. Our daughter loved it.
Very fun for the price and how close it is to calgary
Great place! If your new to snowboarding I would recommend the lessons here!
I don't like that you have to pay extra for the snowboarding/ski park
Very icy slopes, too little snow, pretty boring... but it's okay, it's just a weather. What is worse is the service. The whole huge resort has only one person on repair and he suggested me to wait 1.5 hours to wax and sharpen the board just because there were 3 people ahead... it's incredible... the pizza in the high cafeteria was not fresh, the cake in the low cafeteria was cold and there was no microwave to warm it... and the slopes are closed at 4pm!
Just an hour from downtown Calgary, this hill is built for speed and yet has runs for everyone to enjoy. Snow is mostly groomed runs and so not a destination for powder or fresh snow crowds.
It s quite fun to go with the family here but during an accident with my school I retained permanent damage to my teeth.
They were very uncoropitive with the invesigation into the accident due to me being fought on a run above my skill level. The people in charge of accidents are quite rude toward my mother and did not give a full report about the incident even though the legally were supposed to.
Ok Family hill, instead of runs down the mountain they traverse at an angle, suffers from low snow being in a valley but expect sheltered warmer weather. Want snow keep heading to Sunshine... most importantly if a child is obviously in a class way below their skill, instead of keeping them at the bunny hill move them into the appropriate level vs bored for 2 hours.
Vegetarians rejoice! There is a delicious portobello sandwich (more like a giant taco in naan bread) on the lounge menu. Vegan by leaving off the cheese.
Loving the blue runs on this mountain!
Went during November so there wasn t much snow on the mountain and only two lifts were active. Still had an amazing time even for a novice boarder
Great hill, great views. Would highly recommend for beginner and intermediate skiers.
Great hill for the novice skier or boarder, lots of green and easy blue runs. It's the closest hill to Calgary. The food is pretty terrible, but expected.
Staff in the rental so slow. Too 40 mins to get my kids boots and skis and 3 waiting lines even payment. Ridiculous! The whole day staff at the lift have gruppy faces and lift was not functioning smoothly.
Great for taking kids of different levels and skill
The major advantage is to be close to Calgary. The jump point at the end of the bronze lift is very stepped. 2 out of 5 people were falling after leaving the chairs. Including me.
Great choice for a hill that is close to town with generally good conditions. Good size for beginner to intermediate with some more challenging runs dotted throughout. Overall a great choice for a part day trip to the hill.
We were sold lift tickets when both lifts were broken/shut down. It took 2 hours to do one run. We would have appreciated being told about the lift situation before we purchased tickets. To top it off we were told we would receive a full refund but they tried to make us take credits for future lift ticket instead. It was our first and last time at Nakiska. It was a completely wasted day off work.
Great little hill but gets really, really busy which kinda sucks the fun out of it. If you get here on a quiet day though it's definitely worth it!
Great fun hill with plenty of terrain for all levels of skier!
Great family and beginner skiing. Good place for racers to train. Excellent grooming. Small enough place to let kids wander the mountain and village. Food is terrible, they should buy the Whitewater Ski Resort Cook Book.
Wonderful place, great staff, so beautiful! Everyone should go at least once!
Great season this winter! Excellent for the kids and close to Calgary.
Pretty well made organization, but food is expensive, which is expected.
Great Family and friends place to board or ski!!! Beautiful scenery, runs for all levels and staff on the hills are very friendly and helpful!! Will go back there again!!
Excellent day at Nakiska with 5 inches of new stuff at the top.
Skied Dec 27th. Enjoined the hill but be aware that you are taking your chances picking up the Covid here. Lift Staff making no effort to enforce masking policy. Numerous skiers with face masks below nose in lift lineups. Lift staff not maintaining social distancing while scanning lift passes / tickets. With today's technology you would think a safer practice would be expected.
Nice hill without the big crowds of other nearby resorts. There's not a lot of easy terrain for beginners, though.
Good ski hill for learning on, or for if you only have time for a half day. Lots of man-made snow, but a fun time none the less.
Really good ski hill within an hour's drive from Calgary, but go early on the weekend to beat the crowds.
Basic Lodge. Usually not a lot of snow. Cheap and close to Calgary. Like it a lot.
Groomed runs warm sunny decks and family friendly. I Nakiska
Awesome place! We had a great walk with kids to the falls. It is not touristy, but the village is not far and has some great walking trails as well as several good restaurants, souvenir shops, etc.
Great place especially for beginners and intermediates
Great space, big. There is always room no matter how crowded it may get. Even thought there is always room if you want a guaranteed spot at lunch your best bet would be eating and hour early or an hour late. 11-12 is when the place starts to get really crowded
Great family ski resort. I really like how small it is as it makes it easy to navigate as a family. Has lots of charm and is close to Calgary. Just wish the show better and more plentiful. I also appreciate the free magic carpet.
Way to many people on the hill and in the lift lines , no one is following social distancing guide lines and on one inforces it.
Good ski resort. The lounge is crowded, but they have set up an extra tent for skiers.
