I made sure to drink everything in sight, and eat everything Cajun in sight. They did a good job with that. I don t lol oysters, but something about theirs was delicious. Next time I go to NOLA I m definitely stopping by again.
I was ok. I don't have to come back and wouldn't recommend it. The food is way over priced for the quality. The catfish platter is definitely not worth $20 the price of gumbo at $11 a cup and the flavor is disrespectful to the state of Louisiana. That Z- gumbo was not tasty and it tasted burnt. The catfish was thin and low quality. Go to Mississippi or Alabama for catfish. I truly believe they are busy based on the location being so close to the convention center not because they have the best food. NOT IMPRESSIVE
Food is disgusting. No flavor, except caked on old bay. $110 for 2 w/ 1 drink each and a app. $6.00 for ONE cup of jambalaya on the side. No silverware was given or napkins. My guts felt like swamp gas for 8 hours afterwards. Send your tax collector here.
You are paying for the live band, not the food. The food either had no flavor or was awful. Very disappointed.
Love the atmosphere! Great for kids! Lots of fun dancing to the live music & enjoying great food. I especially recommend the Magic City Shrimp Poboy.
Dayum, I've waited for almost 15 years to go to Louisiana to try their gumbo. I went to the store to buy some antihistamine as im allergic to shellfish. My wife chose Mulates. Our initial reaction was that we picked the right place. The decor & staff seemed like it wouldn't be pricey.
Then we saw the prices. Kids meal average $13 & kids drinks average $4!!! Ridiculous!! I ordered my 16 oz. seafood gumbo ready to throw down. Dayum. When it came, it didn't look pleasing. I had a tower of rice that was surrounded by a puddle of gumbo. It had no visible seafood except for the small shrimp. No crayfish. No crabs. No fish. Wow! My heart broke. I explained this to Xieaje my server and she retorted the best gumbo is gumbo made at home...
Management didn't touch base with us. I guess they didn't care.
We were forced to pay 18% gratuity.
Very good food and live music. The appetizers are the best.

I had alligator here one night. I ended back there the second night. I had a poor boy sandwich. It was so juicy and good. The music from the live band and patron dancing added to the fun atmosphere. Patrons were still dancing as they headed out the door!
Pleasant wait staff , I craved for the gumbo ! It was just ok Luke warm tho....

Poor service!! We were a group of 10 people... our server kept saying he couldn't split our bill individually due to company policies, etc, etc. none of us were impressed by his poor customer service skills!!! I wouldn't recommend this place for a group of over 5 people, is not worth it!!!!
The food was good! I'm not a huge seafood fan but I wanted to try something that would give the New Orleans experience and this was a great place for it.
I'm a little concerned about the cleanliness though. The floors were noticeably sticky and the restrooms were disgusting. My wise old man told me that a business that takes care of its customers has clean bathrooms. By that standard I would say Mulates doesn't care. Fortunately everything else about our experience was good.
This was the first place we saw after arriving at our hotel, so we decided to give it a try. We ordered one order of to go wings and waited 30 minutes for them. It came out as five wings.
Don t get Mutalated! Tourist trap + overpriced food you could get at Shoney s = Never, Ever, Again. $80 tab for two adults and one child (not including 20% tip)... And we drank tap water. The New Orleans location felt like we were dining in a sterile warehouse.
Really great spot. We came at a slow time. Would love to come when the music is playing and the atmosphere is at it's peak.
Poor service. Appetizer came at same time as dinner. Server didn't even check back to find out food was cold. I had to walk food over to kitchen. 3 tries and potatoes still not hot. Lump crab au gratin flavorless and tasted like nothing but flour and water. No apology from server. Na manager came by until I asked for one.
This is my 2nd visit to Mulates and as before the food was hot from the kitchen and very delicious. My stuff shrimp were as little on the dark side but still enjoyable. I would have given a 5 star but I like my food to be appealing in look.
We don't get to New Orleans often, but we always make a point to stop there for either lunch or dinner. Dinners better just because of the live music.
It is not often we ask for a list of liqueurs and they give us a list of beers.
We had to learn the specials from the table near us. The restaurant was less than half full, but our waitress never came by while we were eating and barely checked on us the rest of the time. She forgot my wife's drink and never asked me if I wanted another one.
I finally started counting and the waitress next to us came by 9 times to check on her table while our server came by once and didn't even stop, just walked by.
We even had to ask her if they served desert. Her attitude indicated she was somewhat put out by that.
The bread pudding was probably the best thing on the menu. It was excellent.

A colleague and I had dinner here after a day at a trade show. While we expected the food to be New Orleans great we were pleasantly surprised that Not only was the food better than we expected the atmosphere was amazing. After we have been seated and got our meal the music cranked up. Several of the locals got up and started to dance in that New Orleans only fashion. This is a must visit place if you're in this part of town. An absolute Joy.

Some of the best food that I have ever had in New Orleans. I would recommend this place to anyone traveling there. The atmosphere and light and friendly and the staff was on top of everything. I am definitely coming back the next time I travel to the city.
I ate here twice recently- once with family - once with a large group from work. We had excellent service both times. Everyone enjoyed their meal. I particularly liked the fried shrimp and zydeco gumbo!
The fried crab claws were great, gumbo was ok, avoid the jambalaya, and the bread pudding was terrific. Advise sharing the bread pudding, total heaven if you like bread pudding.
Wasn't expecting it to be as good as it was. Had the sampler platter. Gator was well seasoned. Frog legs was grilled perfect. Calamari was soft and wet good. Fish was tasty thruout. And the shrimp was so good I didn't want to eat it. Wanted to take it home

Got off the plane and checked in at the Embassy Suites. One of the crew members recommended this place and said they ate there periodically. It was only a 2 min walk from the hotel. Wasn't sure what to think from the appearance but the food was great! Had the grilled cajun platter, blackened and everything was excellent. Average prices around $22 but I spent that at red lobster a few nights ago and this place wins hands down.
Mulate's is an excellent place to dine in this part of town. I have been several times, and the food has always been excellent. I can recommend the gumbo and etoufee especially. A warning: this place is very busy, be prepared to wait. Also, they have live music, and the place is in general very loud.

The staff is always friendly and provides great suggestions when your undecided. The restaurant is always clean. The food is delish. Try the roast rice and gravy out of this world. This last time Andy was our waiter outstanding service.

Great service and the red beans and rice were AWESOME! The place is huge and it has a big bar as well. Only downfall was that it's pretty pricey, but $10.50 for a cup of amazing red beans and rice was well with it!
Mardi gras shrimp & Jambalaya were to die for! They have a drink called Plantation Tea though and that was odd to me

First time going at 5 pm on a Tuesday. Service was friendly, attentive, and helpful (personable!!). Ordered two specials (corn & shrimp bisque and soft shell crab entree) and both were delicious! Not too rich but very tasty! Would definitely come back.
This place has some great seafood! They have lots of good seafood entrees and gator dishes as well. Service is great, restaurant is clean. I am not a fan of the live band. We unfortunately sat by them and the loud music quickly tuened into headache. They play so loud you can barely hear each other speak, but if you're into that then this restaurant is one you should try. I got the grilled seafood platter and I got it blackened. Very, very tasty.
The catfish mulate was the best meal I've ever had at a conference. Excellent service from Celine as well. You have to try this place. So good.
The food is good!! The Cajun sampler I got had a variety of food frog legs, alligator, calamari, shrimp, mushrooms and fish. It was a nice size plate and seasoned well.
Service was terrible and the food was equally as bad. Once we got a table, our server was very inattentive to us. My friend ordered the fried calamari (a little chewy, but seasoned well) to start. Our server dropped off just the cocktail sauce and left with no explanation. It took 10-15 minutes until someone else actually brought out the calamari. Same thing with our meals. Speaking of the meals, I ordered the mufuletta and she ordered the jambalaya. Both meals were incredibly salty and her jambalaya had very little meat in it. At the end of the meal, our server brought us the checks, took our cards, but someone else brought our cards back while we watched our server service another table. I understand that they might have been busy, but I did not appreciate that.
Ther place was Ok, I was actually expecting a little fancier place after I saw their prices on line. The food was good but I was definitely not impressed, the service was ok, again nothing special but nothing bad. They did have a band that started playing I believe at 7 pm and some people danced. It was nice but overall I was expecting a little more for the pricess they charge.
In General horrible. Service was very slow and they were not that busy. Food quality was so so. Biggest issue we had when trying to explain the slow service to the Manager, and the fact they have a mandatory 18% gratuity. I told him I was not paying that much and he freaked out and summoned their in store security guard and she told me if I did not pay it in full that I would go to jail. Nice business model. He argued with me regarding the 45 minutes it took to take our order and the 45 minutes to get it to our table. Absolutely no regard for customer relations. Would never go there again. Especially if you are more than 6. Cause that's when they got you for the gratuity. You complain and they threaten you with jail.

We visited Mulate's about three years ago on our way to Destin Florida, their food and service then was amazing! Unfortunately, we were so disappointed this year with the quality, quantity, and the service! Never visiting again!

Found this place before boarding our cruise ship after Fat Tuesday. Food was out of this world. The holy trinity in New Orleans (see pic). Hot sauce was even better than Crystal. Bought 3 bottles to take home. Joe is the server to ask for, he knows what he's talking about. Don't miss this place. Did I mention the cornbread?
I really do love this place. The food is great and the service is good. Love the dance floor and the live music is a blast. I love Cajun food and their food is great. Service staff was so sweet to my kids, too.
The only issue is the price for kids. My four year old s hamburger (plain) with fries was $12! If you have kids, be aware that kids food is expensive.

I will go out of my way to get to Mulate's, and with the road work going on right outside, it was harder to get to than normal. WELL WORTH the small hassle. Best Bloody Mary in the world, ever. I have been many times, yet have only tried 2 items. I would think I have had bites from other people's plates I'm dining with but, no one offers and there's never any leftovers
