My first time in New Orleans. The food and service was excellent
My timing was perfect. Both times I got there just before the crowds. The service was great and the food AMAZING.....
The bread pudding is the best! Very good jambalaya. Good live Zydeco band!
Veru awesome food. We loved having Gator for the first time. We will be back next time we are there.
This was not my first visit. Food was excellent as usual but I was disappointed in the service this time. We were a party of 4 adults and a toddler. We ordered something very simple for the toddler (little preparation needed) and asked that it be brought before the adults' food so we could enjoy our meal without dealing with a starving toddler. This did not happen and part of it came after the adults were served. One of the entrees was wrong (got a catfish plate instead of catfish Mulate). We were not asked if we wanted to order dessert. I am not usually a picky customer. I understand that serving is a hard job, but this was disappointing.
Treatment of first time guest was 5 star by table waitress
A very nice, unexpected find - amazing meal. Had the Cecelia plate per our waitresses recommendation and did not disappoint. Everything good here, and bonus to be seated right away. Live music also.
I hate going into an established and dealing with staff that appears to hate their job. The young lady with the short blonde hair wasn't friendly at all. By the time we sat down our waiter.... Joseph came over right away to get our drink order. Joseph was quick, gave honest answers, made sure our glasses were never low. He really made our experience great. I think I enjoyed my cole slaw the most the stuffed crab was okay. My mate had a giant salad that had more meat (blackened catfish, grilled shrimp, fried shrimp and sausage) than greens and he DIDN'T MIND AT ALL. We really enjoyed the atmosphere and live band. Would love to come back during my next visit
Good food with live dance music with a Cajun flair.
Loved the Jambalaya. You must try the Grandma's Oreo dessert. It's to die for! You can share it between 2 people. The live music made the experience even better
Great atmosphere, laid back, mature choice. Good service, lovely menu
Food was amazing. Great prices for the amount of food you get. Will certainly come back net time in NOLA. The live band was a really nice addition.
Great local authentic Cajun Band for dancing and entertainment. Pretty good food reasonably priced we had great service.
If you're staying in the French Quarter take the riverfront train and it stops right across the street from Mulates.
Good food, but... The gumbo was tasty, but a "large" bowl at $16.50 was not very large at all [in fact, it looked exactly the same size as a medium bowl of etouffee we ordered] -- I was hungry an hour later! Also beware the drinks that are not priced on the menu -- a bottle of Abita was $7.50, and a draft Abita was the same. Maybe they use the extra funds to pay the band?? They provided a fun atmosphere.
How dumb and customer unfriendly could this place be? Came on a Friday night at 9:30. The place was empty. We wanted to sit and have drinks near the band and the hostess wouldn t let us despite it being empty. Band was good. Management poor.
If you read about the original it sounds awesome. But the current location seems a shadow of it's former self. Almost like a plastic Cajun experience. The food was expensive given the visual appearance of the fries and gator that came out on the plate. It was also delivered in about 4 minutes after order (read fries and fried gator under heat lamps for who knows how long). If you're looking for that kind of experience, this is the place for you. The sweet tea was good.
I will never step foot back in this restaurant again. They need a negative star in customer service. I was there for a business convention and we all went to Mulate's for lunch after I had not been feeling well. I also have a shellfish allergy so I am limited to what I can eat at this type of restaurant. That, along with getting over a stomach bug made it impossible for me to have a meal that was heavy and full of spices so I asked for a child's menu in order to accommodate what I needed. They refused to allow me to order from that menu so I pulled out a beigent that someone had given to me that morning to munch on while everyone else ate. My waitress told me I could not eat that while sitting in their restaurant. So I got up and walked out and I will never go back in again.
Beautiful food for a good night out when in new Orleans
The music and the food was great. They start playing cajun type music at 7pm. I went with 3 of my friends and tried all their food.... EVERYTHING I tasted was amazing.... from the fried aligator to the chicken pasta!
The restaurant is close to my hotel and had delicious food stopped in there to get one of the specialty drinks and the sampler appetizer would definitely recommend it had a little bit of everything and it was amazing
We were seated by a sullen, unfriendly girl and proceeded to waited 20 minutes and still no waiter. We got up and left. They obviously didn't need any business.
Fantastically delicious!!! Stuffed Cajun catfish... Hurricane to drink!! Great service! Thank you!!!!
I ate at the original Mulate's out in the middle of Louisiana when I was driving across the country 10 years ago. It was a memorable experience and the food was incredible! My husband couldn't wait to try it when we drove across the country this year. Unfortunately, Mulate's has moved to the middle of New Orleans, upped it's prices and lost its authenticity & charm. It's now just a big tourist joint. The food is not bad but it's not what it used to be. Perhaps if I weren't comparing it to the original, I wouldn't be so disappointed. But I did have the wonderful experience of eating at the original, so I can't help but compare.
Now THAT was a most delicious meal!! Highly recommend!!!
Our waitress was so nice and attentive. The food was excellent! The location is just outside the NO convention center.
I went there to try some Cajun food. It s good they don t have a long wait compared to some other famous restaurants. The food is good but I wish it s not just all fried.
The food wasn't worth the 45 min wait. The band played two songs then took a 45 min break. Not worth the time with so many amazing places to dine.
Best hurricanes in New Orleans... and the food is pretty great too!
Outstanding red beans and rice!! Huge drinks that are never empty. Have ate here multiple times and it's always great food.
Customer service was out standing from the time we walked into the restaurant. 5 stars
Good food. Gave it 4 stars because I feel like you can get the same thing lots of places in NOLA. We enjoyed the band that played. That's something a little harder to find, for some reason... restaurants with good Cajun/zydeco music. My dad and his wife were in from out of state and really excited to hear live zydeco music. Did not disappoint.
Service is a bit slow, so don't expect it to be a quick meal. However, our server was awesome. Felicia is her name. Ready with suggestions, very friendly and accommodating. (She just seems like a lovely person in general.) And definitely had that New Orleans hospitality. I would probably go back again just for her and the music.
It was just ok. I went there because my husband I visited there a long time ago and enjoyed the blacked alligator bites. Ordered them today with meatless red beans, which were just warm and my husband had the seafood gumbo. The shrimp was frozen. He said it was ok. Kinda wish I had just ordered the bites and went someplace else for entree.
Went here the night before a race and they were really helpful with accommodating my vegetarian meal!
Really good food! Ribs were suggested by my waitress and man was she correct!! Best so far!!
Excellent food, humdrum atmosphere. Of the places we ate at I would rank them as
K Paul - great mains, service, ambience and starters
Mulates - also felt more local, good service, not great ambience
Cochon - great food, a bit on the salty side
Commanders palace - confusing service, not very Louisiana specific it seemed, but good food.
Cafe Soule - not in the same ballpark, but still ok food
Homestyle cajun food. You get a lot for a good price and its delicous.
Delicious food. This is my second time here and it did not disappoint. The Cajun seafood platter was amazing. Left me wanting more. The portion size was huge and we couldn't finish it even with two people trying
We're visiting here from stl for the weekend so we Googled highly recommend restuarants and this came up ....we waited 30 min, the food came out cold as if it's been sitting in the back. When we told the manager he said "you want me to nuke it" how rude! On a lighter note, the server was very pleasant
Delicious Cajun Cuisine. Highly recommend the Catfish Mulate.
This establishment Do Not season their food. The chicken wings were bland. The stuffed shrimps were cooked in old grease. My jambalaya was cold, I sent it back and never received a replacement. The gumbo was horrible. Over heard the waiter ask for silverware and her coworker replied we do not have any.
The RR was not attended to at all ( no paper towels, wet floors, limited tissue, and no soap. The music is super loud.
Stop here at your own risk.
The food here is really good. Live music and performances made the visit memorable. Customer service is very friendly and welcoming.
Great food , atmosphere and of course the live music.
We enjoyed the entertainment and the service staff was awesome!
As an out of towner this is a must go to place. The food was amazing as well as the vibe. Everyone was friendly. I'd definitely try the alligator bits grilled and blackened. I will definitely be again!
Appetizers were absolutely wonderful but we should've stopped there. Meals were just OK and my husband's crawfish augratin was so salty he couldn't eat it. Smoked oyster appetizer is absolutely delicious though and they've got good cold beer.
Thanks for an Amazing and Exceptional evening and Delicious food Mulate's Cajun restaurant.!!!
Went with a large group. Server was friendly but only mildly attentive. One member of our group received his meal nearly 45 minutes after the rest of the table. The manager didn t think it was a big deal because they were busy.
Food was a 2.5 but the experience was a 1. Won t return.
Our server was great. The music was good. However, the food was just not that good. Everything was way overcooked. Oysters were simply too small to be fried. Jambalaya tasted like it had been sitting on the back porch for days. There was an unfortunate experience with the manager when my father tried to order just a skewer of shrimp in favor of the over fried oysters he had originally ordered. I think it was a communication breakdown, where the manager thought we were trying to get a free meal, however, my dad was just trying to get something he could eat, never mentioned trying to get it for free nor wanted extra jambalaya or fries. My dad was eventually served the skewer of shrimp and the manager did come out as we were about to leave and sincerely apologized, but I don't think we'll be going back there with the plethora of other great places to eat in NOLA.
Awesome Boudin and Gumbo, great music. But what makes me come back is the bread pudding. Best in the city
Curious restaurant of traditional food of New Orleans Where you can eat the main traditional dishes here you can try alligator frog legs and other types of local foods the truth is that often they do not distinguish one from another because it has a very strong type of flavoring and similar but it is a place where it was worth it was with live music and cold beer the price is also quite affordable
Great taste, big portions at affordable prices. If you are at the convention center this is a must!
Love this place food and music and employees is fantastic
Went for dinner with 6 people on a Saturday night. It took us about 15 minutes to get seated. Took another 10 minutes for anyone to get drink orders. Then another 15 minutes to get the drinks. 2 drinks were wrong. Ordered food and took a good while. Most of us got a cup or bowl of gumbo. Food was amazing but service was extremely terrible.
Great original Cajun food! The Jambalaya is awesome!
At first my group thought this would be some type of tourist trap restaurant. It's not. We at here 4x during our convention stay. Great food. Can be busy just about anytime so try to get in early if you can. The service was fast on each of our visits. Would recommend to anyone. It's also right across from the convention center so very convenient.
Great food, drinks and service. Seemed a little pricey until the food arrived at the table. Well worth the price with large portions and great taste.
Sat for over 10 minutes and was never even greeted by a server. There was no rush, the servers were just ignoring us and a table that came in approx 5 min after us had a server go right to their table......DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME
First time in New Orleans and stumbled across this place. Staff was great, our server was awesome. Cajun isn't really my thing but the hubby and kids loved it. Live music was also good.
A nice place in the heart of the convention area. Jambalaya was good, a cup was just the right amount. Can get loud during crowded times, but pleasant. I'd go back to try some of the other things. Bread pudding was good.
Usually good food and fun place...but
Was disappointed in our last visit in Aug 2015.
Waite staff not up to usual standards, and worst of all, neither my wife nor I thought food was up to what we have experienced during prior visits. I hope this was just a bad night and not a trend.
Worst food ever! Don t waste your money here. Place is also dirty.
