Can't win em all. Way over priced for quantity and quality, very good service though.
The fried stuff definitely has been cooked way before & under heat lamp.
Crawfish au gratin was honestly very very good. Extremely tiny portions & everything else was blah.
I'd say tourist trap, can't justify repeat business.

Food was great and enjoyed the music very much! Joe gave us excellent service ... he Rocks!! So glad we found this place.

Overrated and expensive. We were disappointed. Everyone ordered something different. My shrimp was fantastic, but I was the lucky one out of 7 of us. Drinks were ok.

Had the special of soft shell crab with crab drizzled over it in a butter sauce. It was my first time here and I would absolutely go back, live music, good food, and cocktails.

Absolutely the best poboy and fried gator!! Highly recommend for a great meal that's not too expensive. You get a lot of food for the price. Definitely worth a visit!!

Mulate's has great Louisiana style dishes for everyone. The cornbread appetizer is truly amazing. The live nightly music is a bonus and complements the dining experience. Save room for the bread pudding.

The food was alright, the waitress took forever to bring the check out, then I was surprised to find out they add gratuity for only five people, and it is 18%, that is absurd, I won't be returning to this place again.

Never fall for the deceiving stuffed crab dinner. It is on the grilled menu. It is not grilled and I nor my dinner partners could find any hint of crab in the dish. It was all bread stuffing. Very disappointing, I cannot have bread so a waste of money.

Service was extremely slow and it wasn't that busy food was ok

Simply put one of the most disappointing plates of crawfish etouffee I have ever eaten. Tasted as if the crawfish were old - the etouffee itself was bland and the service was nothing to write home about. The charming atmosphere and live music didn't fix the food problems.

June 22nd @15:00h, we walked into this restaurant. There were about 8 servers standing around. We were seated immediately. However we waited 15 minutes until I finally asked a person that was sweeping the floor olifnthis was a buffet restaurant. He said no. I said I didn't think so, but we have been waiting for quite a while. He left and cane back and commenced sweeping. I motioned to him and asked him to get a manager. He said okay and walked away. About 3 minutes prior another group of people walked in and were immediately seated and in less than 30 seconds were served. About one minute later a waitress came over and apologized (said they were experiencing a shift change) and wanted to take our order. We said we're were waiting for 15 minutes and that we had asked for a manager.
At this point we did not trust that we would receive great food and roze to our feet and walked out.

This wasn't a restaurant that was referred by the hop on hop off tour.

My wife and I have 5 kids which is usually a guarantee to get crappy service. Our server (Andy) was great. We enjoyed the food and the kids really dug the live zydeco. We're eating here again before we head home.

Great food, fun atmosphere. Live zydeco band, dancing and awesome drink menu. Lots of large groups and plenty of room for everyone.

A few gripes about service though our waiter was welcoming and pleasant. Some of the food was pretty good, some not so (small Mahi-Mahi entre, vegetables luke warm, brought double instead of fries). Overall not cheap. Nice family atmosphere, lively music and dancing. Great building. We stumbled across Mulate's trying to find a bite to eat and killing a couple of hours before a gig at Howlin' Wolf. The main problem they have is that the system for getting food out means the waiters disappear for long periods of time behind a long screening wall, minimizing the time they can spend to be attentive to customers. Also because our "server" did not actually serve our food, nor came by until we'd finished or be available to be called, he didn't give himself a chance to know of the problems we had with the food.

We never miss a chance to eat here when we're in town.. great food, friendly staff... you can't beat it!

We had an awesome experience at Mulate's on November 9th. The waiter John K was kind amd knowledgeable of the menu. Recommended the fish and the day and it was great. Thanks for a excellent dinner.

Short walk from our hotel. Absolutely wonderful service from Mary Alice! Food was outstanding all around the table.

Seafood was great. Disappointed in steak. Ordered medium got well done. Bread pudding was wonderful. Steak did have good flavor. Just overcooked.

10+ years later and the bread pudding is just like I remembered; AMAZING! This rating is exclusive to the bread pudding!

Really lovely restaurant featuring a nightly live Cajun band. Food was excellent as was the service. You have got to save room for their signature bread pudding. It's amazing!!!!

Delicious food and great atmosphere. Cocktails, red beans and rice, and jambalaya were on point. Also highly recommend the boudin sausage. Service as great. Live band was great and acoustics were not overbearing for the size of the restaurant.

We came here because we had good memories of the original Mulates. The food was still good, but compared to other places nearby, this one had smaller portions and higher prices. So that was disappointing. Probably won't go back.

Great place! Delicious menu options! My friends say the gumbo is amazing! I'm vegetarian/vegan and I was able to eat their Sauteed Vegetable Pasta, but there were not many other options. Despite that, I would recommend for all those who love meat and seafood!

Good gumbo, okay house salad. The pho-boy looks great. Very good local restaurant that does a good job with Cajun food. However I would call it amazing.

Good food, i had the jambalaya. Smallish shrimp but good flavor. We loved the daily Zydeco music.

A bit disappointed. A lot of recommendations for this place, but didn't live up to the hype. The squid was overcooked and tough. Large portions. Rude waitresses as the place was empty, but told some guys at the table beside us that they can't seat themselves and since they weren't getting food, they needed to move to bar. Just not called for when no one was there.

Food was ok. My fried oysters and alligator was a bit off putting and chewy, but the rest of the food on the seafood platter was great. Had good service.

This came as a recommendation from a local Louisiana lady I met. Check their schedule for live Cajun It's a large restaurant with dance floor and delicious food; portions are big, hot & good! We had jambalaya, shrimp & catfish - yum!!! Our waitress was great, I wish I remembered her name? She was friendly and attentive and made the dining experience a memorable one.

Went for lunch. You can ask for frog legs as an appetizer even though it is no longer on the menu as a stand alone item... they are wonderfully seasoned. Salad portions are huge, consider sharing if you are not too hungry. Went here a few years ago and again last week and the food is still great. Prices are a bit high so 4 stars instead of 5

Just had lunch here as we are visiting. Big place, but food was not great. Severely overpriced for what we got. LUNCH cost us over $110 for 2 drinks, an app and 2 lunch items. The best part of my meal was the cocktail!
It was our first meal in New Orleans expecting lots of flavor....sorely disappointed. No flavor in anything!!!! My spouse got severely sick after lunch and he can handle anything! Server was just ok.
Never gave us silverware or asked us if we liked the food or drink. All the staff seemed to be walking around with their mouths full of food. A turn off! Big disappointment that cost us a lot of $$$ Don't waste your time.

Pricy, but spot on flavor. Expect to spend $30-40 per plate, but if you budget for that you will not be let down. The menu choices are limited, and the space is busy, but those are good choices resulting in fantastic dishes and low wait times.

The bartender was rude and impatient and there were only 3 other costumers at the bar. He suggested a dish and I was excited to try it but when I asked to substitute for red beans and rice because I don t eat meat, he told me that it is their policy not to substitute at all. The dish I settled on was dry and not very good for $23.99. The twice backed patato was not very good at all.

I always come back here for the gumbo, of course much of the other food is great as well. This place is best done when they have their live bands playing. So go to their website and plan accordingly.
