Reviewing Mr. Smalls because I totally forgot about this place when I went to school at Allegheny college. This venue is pretty tight and you can't forget it, the sound is pretty good here for the venues I've been to. I remember seeing Goatwhore, Skeletonwitch, you name it. If you're in Pittsburgh, make an effort to see a concert here.

The funhouse is a small, but well fun place to see some indie bands, and downstairs is a memorable venue with quality sound. Both can be kind of claustrophobic when they're packed (As in, they're not big floors but cram a lot of people).

This is a great music venue. They host up and coming acts and musical groups that have been around for a while. If you love live music and are a beer enthusiast, you will enjoy a great beer selection while listening to music in an intimate setting.

Intimate venue. My main complaint is that they do not allow will call tickets to be picked up when you first get there like most venues allow, you must wait until the doors open possibly putting you further back for general admission shows. Other than that I had no complaints.

Saw Nils Frahm here on 3/25/19. Awesome venue in an old church. Can either be a sit down venue with folding chairs, or, usually, a stand up place. The upper balcony is for 21 and up, where you can get a drink and enjoy a great view. Sound quality is awesome, and the atmosphere is incredible.

Great venue to catch national touring acts and local talent.

Monday is a steady open mic night (usually full of talent so practice and get there early). It's free to play or watch. That's in the newer upstairs venue.

The big venue is pretty awesome. Good for larger shows and the stage is a lot of fun to play. The sound is always awesome.

Such a cool place to see a show - not too big, not too small (no pun intended) & caters to the "mature" concert goer with vip seating options, quick bar service, decent food, and lots of surfaces to lean against. There are ample bathrooms too, & they've even upgraded from curtains to doors on the ladies' room stalls! More importantly, they bring in an amazing range of performers, and although the crowd sometimes needs shushing, the accoustics are pretty awesome.

Not a bad place to see a show - not the best either. Parking can be a problem in the area, and the floor can get crowded, for popular/sold out shows. Otherwise, things are mostly fine - sound is good and the view is fine from most of the venue. VIP space available upstairs does put this venue in a separate class, though - definitely consider it for a show where you'd prefer a more relaxed experience.

My review is based soley on the venue itself, NOT on the bands that played, which were awesome.

Last night a few buddies and I went to see Amon Amarth. It was a sold out show and was absolutely excellent... when you could hear them.

Out of the entire show (2 openers and Amon headlining) the power to the stage died ATLEAST 10 times. All of the amps would die along with the mic aalmost every 4 songs. This venue has serious issues and the power disruptions definitely screwed up the flow of the entire show.

The bands did their best to keep the crowd entertained with chanting and clapping and drum solo's and such when the power was down and the fail sound team was running around like idiots trying to fix the problems. I have seen many different shows at Smalls with much more sound equipment on stage and have never seen such an utter failure on the venues behalf as I did this time.

Seriously Mr. Smalls... you're a concert hall. That's what you do. Your ONLY purpose is to play shows and you can't even do that right.

This show should have been at Stage AE.

Anyway, as said before, the bands ROCKED, and Amon Amarth was absolutely fantastic. But avoid this venue if you can, it's absolute garbage.

Absolutely love the atmosphere of this venue!!! If it's your first time explore the building (where patrons are allowed of course), if you have been here before and didn't wonder around to check it out, you should!!
Prices are great compared to other venues in the Burgh but parking may mean you walk a little to the venue from your car. Parking if you don't show up early, ya may be parking in front of homes or businesses but it's not always slammed as much as South Side.

Never had an issue there, staff is great and seem to enjoy when the showgoers have fun, just be safe!

It was great, it's a smallish venue so when you go for a concert it feels very personal and not too big. Parking is a bit difficult and people driving tend to yell at you as if you know exactly what you're doing, but the building itself is great.

Run by music people for music people. The Funhouse is small, has tables and seats, excellent sound. The main venue is typically SRO except the balcony, and the balcony is excellent. Reserve a balcony seat early. Drink selection is good.

Twas a beautiful experience. To be a part of the ALL SCENE Festival was an honor! Big ups to Mike Z. for putting a lot of work and effort into such a phenomenal event.

I've heard that the additions of this place has been Krazy! I hope to be back next year to witness it's transformation.

If I could give this a 9 out of 5 I would. This is probably the best concert venue I've ever been to. I LOVE the reserved seats in the balcony. And the service. And the prices are fine too. The only thing keeping this from a 10/5 is the fact they didn't do my tax return.

Saw/taped some Mountain Goats shows at this venue- the sound was great, the crowd was awesome, and the staff was courteous and as can be for a concert venue. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! If a band you love is playing here you should definitely go! Lots of affordable board just minutes away from the venue, too. (Airbnb)

This is a great venue. Some awesome bands have been through here, and it is an amazing time when special events like Yinzfest is going on. Parking can be a struggle with mostly on street parking in the area. But the great and new music is worth stopping for. Check out some local bands at the next event.

This place is so cute! It's an old church that was transformed into a concert hall. You can't take your drink away from the bar section and no one under 21 can be in the drinking area. It's great if your at an all ages show.

An old converted church. The sound is incredible the staff was very friendly and efficient. Just one complaint, more chairs and tables are needed around the bars. I'm 59 years old and standing for 5 hours is not my idea of fun.

Awesome place to see your favorite band perform. If you like it loud and crazy, this is the place! Parking is at a minimum, so I suggest getting there early to avoid searching for a parking place. Street parking is available, but is hit and miss. Staff is friendly and helpful. Small venue size let's you get up close and personal with the show. Two bars ensure you get the refreshments you are looking for. Bartenders are quick to serve you favorite beverages. I would suggest definitely seeing a show at Mr. Smalls.

This is a fairly small venue, but they make good use of the space. Good acoustics and the small room make for a very loud concert. Free parking on side streets nearby, and I've never had trouble finding an open space even when the place is sold out.

A great venue for a show. I've attended many concerts here over the years and not once have I had any problems. Food is good and reasonably priced and they offer a decent selection of beers that won't break the bank. You can even reserve balcony seating if you prefer to avoid the crowd on the floor!
