Depending on the emergency, I would only go back because, here around Astoria, it's the only & closest ER. Been to the ER, in the past year, 3x, with only once (brought by ambulance was decent. The other 2times it was disgraceful. Once there were patients lining up in the hallways, including me. The last time I made the doctor discharge me (against med advice) due to being totally ignored by him. I found out the results of a CATscan that I took by overhearing the doctor tell my daughter, not me!!, the results when she asked if she could buy something for me to eat.
He'd come over about 90 minutes later and talk to me, when another doctor heard me talking on the phone. By leaving I was also stopping the doc from admitting me to the hospital. I did complain to the hospital Ass't Director and no response back. Just like the ER doctors: no "we're waiting on such and such". Just leave me alone. The last hour or so even nurses didn't come by to ask how I was doing.
There is a big construction going on at the hospital, to be fair, mostly (of my understanding) involving the ER area. This seems to be about 3-4 years too late. As stated, being there was totally absurd.
Outside of the ER, I find the people working in radiology very friendly and helpful; the one time I was on the floor I had no real complaints. It is unfortunate that the rest of the hospital is brought down by the experiences in the ER and the total disregard by doctors and administration. However, rating just the ER, I would have given it 1 star... at the most.
THIS is written April 2018: ER and I suppose docs offices are new and great. Room to work in for the employees, decent treatment area for the patients. Now if only doctors dept their patients abreast and replied to phone calls and/or pn patient portals. Doesn't make sense to have all this and be kept in the blind. Seriously this is a travesty. At least when I was in the hospital for just under a week.
I have nothing to say that's bad concerning the nurses, assistants, or other hard working employees (from my viewpoints). They are all great. Now if only ALL doctors would respond as stated above, kept the patient abreast of medical improvements, etc. In the week I was there, including their new ER, I saw a doctor maybe 7 min or so. TOTAL! Again, other docs for outpatients should be stressed to keep the patients in the know and respond to the phone calls or portal. Many of my doctors over the past 2 yrs are there and as an outpatient, most have given me their ofc phone numbers which was promptly ignored when I called. Great!
Of course I don't know all. But I will state publicly that my PCP (don't know if I can write her name or I would) and her assistants, including office personnel, I would rate 7 stars on a scale of 1-5. When I was in the hosptial, my PCP spent more time with me than the other doctors combined! Lastly: the floor patient rep and her response to me of "ya gotta not be that rushing for results) is just plainly effed up. There's no excuse to tell a patient that the end of on the 2nd day on the floor. But then the other docs and keeping patients abreast of what's going on.... If it wasn't for my PCP, I could co-star in my Mad Magazine that month.
I don't hate the hospital, but much needs to be improved. And a good chunk of that has nothing to do with how doctors and some med staff keep patients uninformed. (NO typo) Lastly, 2 yrs ago I ate my food on mostly paper products. Seriously?? (I was, in a different hosp.,in food service. This hits home. This was also outrageous. If it still happens, I have no knowledge. Though I saw the employee (5star to him!!) but just spoke general & didn't ask. And Building services (sanitation, engineering) 5*!! (Wrote the mgr of FS when I was a patient and no reply to this writing. I know these people (the docs and managerial peoples & others this applies to, which is NOT everybody) think they may be great, but....
Hope this helped all. And if management wants to talk, I'd be delighted!!
