I will not go into detail, but myself and my family have had terrible experiences with this hospital. If I could recommend a better place for care, it would be UPMC Altoona or Tyrone hospitals. They have a much more welcoming and safe environment. My whole family now seeks out UPMC Altoona or Tyrone for any medical issues requiring a hospital. I also recommend other hospitals to anyone I know seeking medical care.

Complete waste of my time. I waited two hours to get treated for my facial cellulitis in the ER, and ended up leaving the hospital because most of the staff were just socializing and completely ignored me as they passed my room several times. The University Health Services treated my emergencies better than this hospital.

Was in a car accident and they made me wait in the ER for over half an hour while I was screaming in agony. The short bald jerk ER doctor had the gall to tell me that yelling wouldn't get me seen any faster. Terrible treatment and only the crappiest of Dr.s end up there.

Honestly I hate writing reviews as I normally feel that its not the business's fault but just a singular bad employee, but it seems when it comes to this ER the majority of the ER staff are horribly unprofessional, lazy, condescending and sometimes flat out rude. I personally have had bad experiences and I have also been there when others have had bad experiences. I have told staff members that they are being impolite only to have them respond even nastier than they were before. I have sat in this ER for upwards of 4 hours waiting for someone to come in just to give me a freaking update. Do not go to this emergency room unless your prepared to spend a very long time there with very little communication given. I have seen them completely dismiss people who come back just days later with a more serious issue than they had before. And its only in the ER! I have had a child in this hospital and had a wonderful experience all around on the maternity ward and I have not had any bad experiences with the labs or anything else! With how bad this ER is I really wish there was another hospital close enough for me to be able to go elsewhere.

I was recently in this hospital for major back surgery (multi-level laminectomy and lumbar fusion). Overall my stay was (just) okay. There were two incidents that prevented me from giving a higher rating.

The first was in the pre-op holding area. The anesthesia doctor came in to begin the process by inserting a pulse monitor into a vein in my wrist. He made eight attempts at finding a vein but each time hit a nerve. It was excruciating to feel that "shock" go through to the back of my hand. To make matters worse he laughed and said he would try again after I was put under.

The second incident came a couple of days after surgery. I pushed the button to call for a nurse because I needed to get out of bed to use the bathroom. Some unknown nurse "just passing through" stopped to help. I held out my hand and she took hold and pulled with great force and I screamed in pain. Only then did she ask what I had done. When I said back surgery she immediately stepped back and said she would find my regularly assigned nurse.

My surgeon was excellent. The nursing staff had a lot of room for improvement.

Horrible hospital. There are some very kind Drs and nurses, but when you get a bad one ...they take it to a whole new level. Unfortunate they dont take responsibilty for their mistakes and reprimand the staff that are rude and lazy. There is a reason there are such bad reviews.

I spent 2 weeks there this summer as a patient in the behavioral health unit. Most of these one star reviews seem to be people who came to the ER with things that aren't emergencies. I'm reviewing as someone who actually had to spend a lot of time there.

First off, the food was fantastic and the kitchen staff who take the orders were very patient and friendly. Keep up the good work!

The nurses were kind, helpful, and understanding. A few were way stricter than others, but it came from a place of caring. They all seemed to be great people!

One major problem I ran into in the BHU was the Internet policy. No Internet use allowed at all. This is understandable in most cases, but it actually ended up hurting me. We were shuffled from doctor to doctor, and some would barely explain anything. They'd try to put me on medications that alter your brain chemistry, but some gave me almost no information other than the general purpose and a list of side effects. I refused medication until I could get a friend to look it up and tell me about it over the phone. This probably ended up making my stay last longer than it needed to be.

They forced me to sleep on a mattress on the floor of an activity room at one point because they needed to keep an eye on me. They shouldn't force patients to do that! They need to find a better way to keep an eye on people at night.

The roommate situation got bad when they put me with a girl who was later deemed unfit to have a roommate. I was back on the floor because of it. For a place that is so expensive, the fact that I had to sleep on the floor multiple times is crazy.

I'd probably give 5 stars if I actually had a bed every night I was there.

Have spend over 10 hour by calling the billing off...

Have spend over 10 hour by calling the billing office over 30 times for a bill. The staff in billing office sometimes said the insurance company denied to pay for my bill, with others saying the insurance paid it but took the money back. They kept on asking me to pay the bill of $1311 and said could give me a discount. But the insurance told me that they have already processed and paid this bill long long time ago, and my responsibility is just paying the deductible and coinsurance of $312. The lady from Aetna also give me a phone number, telling that if the people from Mount Nittany Medical Center (MNMC) still say the insurance doesn't pay for anything, just give that number and they can help me to explain. But when I told this to the staff in the billing office from MNMC, she simply said this is final, and they cannot call insurance anymore and the only thing to do is asking me to pay for the bill of $1311, because "You don't have insurance coverage", even I told them the policy number on my statement is not the one I provide to them. I am a graduate student from Penn State so I have the insurance provided by PSU.

Finally I got help from one representative from Aetna and she called the bill office. Then the bill office admit the insurance had already paid for the bill long long time ago and they will give me the statement with right amount.

No comments here, just want to share my experience. The take home message is: Please consider that if you have enough time to deal with them before scheduling a doctor visit:)

This place is horrible. I have chronic kidney stones and sometimes the pain is so bad I have to go to the er. The last 2 times I went I waited over an hour to get any pain management because the nurses are just horrible. The nurses are nice people, but it's like they're so understaffed it takes forever to see anybody. The last time it took me 30 minutes to even get a pillow. If there was anywhere else to go to get pain relief I'd never go here again.

I've had to go to the ER twice since I moved to the area 3 years ago. Both times I was taken in within 10 minutes. Pain meds were injected within 15 min. of being in my room. I thought they were pretty fast & professional. Only gripe I have is the last time I went in for broken ribs, they told me I broke 3. My PCP showed me the report a week ago & it states I broke 4.

I wish I could give this place negative stars. Recently suffered a miscarriage and one nurse laughed breaking the news to me and the other was obviously annoyed with my questions. Horrible, unethical emergency room service. Bad attitudes and awkward staff. Never go here. The majority of the nurses are despicable and annoyed with working at the facility.

Somehow my review got deleted so I will review again. Came here to the ER 03/2018 with severe abdominal pain I could barely walk/stand. First off the ER nurses were very rude and unprofessional/unpleasant to be around. I was throwing up couldn t keep anything down that s how much pain I was in. Told the physician my symptoms her name was Kimberly Johnson I will never ever forget her name. She took my blood and an ultrasound and said I was very anemic (I have NEVER been anemic in my whole life & told her that) and she told me to go get vitamins and eat something to get my iron back up. I was just like ok left feeling the same way I came in. Went and got vitamins tried to eat something and I couldn t. I only got worse as the night went on I actually felt like I was suffocating. That s because I got a call from a 2nd radiologist Dr. Stodard who reviewed my ultrasound when he came in he called me about 6AM the next morning and said I had blood filled in my entire abdomen and was pretty much slowly bleeding out internally. I could have DIED any minute after I had left that hospital the night before. I was in shock. I have two small boys who depend on me I was fighting for my life and I could feel it. I tried expressing this to Kimberly the original physician I had seen and she didn t listen. I got to the hospital ASAP after he called me that morning my doctors from Geisinger were there waiting for me and it was immediate prep for the OR. Again the nurses in the ER were so very rude just being so negative around me saying stuff about my doctor when they knew I was prepping for a surgery it was awful. The ICU nurses were very nice to me and my recovery nurses in the maternity section that s where they transferred me to recover they were all very nice and helpful. I don t know why the ER nurses are so rude there though.I was so thankful to have geisinger doctors I don t know if I would have survived if it had been Mt. Nittany since they couldn t even diagnose me properly or hear me out. What was suppose to be a minor laparoscopy ended up being a 4 hour major abdominal surgery. But I am thankful to be alive and forever thankful to my surgeons who helped saved my life. DEMAND ANSWERS FROM THESE PEOPLE DO NOT LEAVE THIS PLACE UNTIL YOU HAVE AN ANSWER PLEASE FOR THE SAKE OF YOUR LIFE! I hope this review helps some people considering going here and hoping the doctors/physicians and ER nurses can change their attitudes and LISTEN to their patients.

I have kidney stones, and despite what you may think, dealing with Nittany Medical is a huge pain in my neck. I went to see a Uralogist and he's good, told me everything I need to know but then went to see s Nephrologist and he told me the exact same stuff. Wasted time and money to hear the same thing. Months later, I had to go back for a check up and was bounced around the Urologist and hospital for an X-ray. More wasted time and money. Then I discovered my 2 didn't make their requests for tests until I asked for them and which makes me wonderful if they intentionally didn't do it so I would have to come back and waste my time and money. I also didn't get my results to my test until I had to call and ask. Also, making appointments has been a disaster. It honestly feels like no one knows what they are doing, and the right hand doesn't know what the left one is doing. I'm a Prnn State student and it stinks that this is my only option. I'm glad I graduate in 4 months and never have to deal with them again.

Can't speak as a patient but as a visitor, nursing staff was rude. After driving 2 1/2 hours to see my only sister and my only niece, we were abruptly told to leave bc my son is under 10. No time to say goodbye, simply made to pack up and get out (while we're crying) under her watchful eye while she says, "2 1/2 hours was a long drive." Many other staff members who saw us did not have a problem. Don't know why this lady had to be so rude and heartless.

This hospitals billing department continuously recreates alot of frustrations to their customers because they do not know how to process the bill and submit them to the correct insurance address despite months of phone calls to correct the situation. My son's hospital went to collection because they could not submit to the correct insurance address to start to process the bill.

The facilities aren't bad at all, and when you get a good doctor you get very good care. But the nurses here are some of the worst I've ever seen. My grandmother was in recently, and had to get an IV. The incompetent idiot who tried to put it in her took well over 10 tries to find a vein, and left her with a massive bruise the size of a softball, that has yet to heal, almost a full month after she was discharged. It's the luck of the draw, for something that really, really shouldn't be.

delivered my daughter here and the nurse and Doctor were very rude. They both kept questioning why I was in pain before and after delivery and the nurse left the room multiple times while I was supposed to be pushing. The whole experience was awful.
Also every time I've called the person on the phone was rude and I had a biopsy done here and they didn't get back to me for over 2 months

Doesn't even deserve 1 star! I almost passed out on the floor of this hospital from nausea I felt all weekend. After being checked out, I couldn't find a ride home. I asked about using the hospital beds because I felt extremely faint and a nurse (with a messy bob and bad bleach job) spoke to me in a condescending tone because apparently, if I wasn't paying to see a doctor about an issue that I already knew the solution to, my health condition didn't matter. The female receptionist with a brown bob (that looks like it was cut by a 4- year-old) also had a similar tone. I spent 2 hours asking for assistance in finding transportation to get home and rest.
After hours of trying, I went back to the receptionist to ask her for help with the wifi to get an Uber and she dismissed me by stating that she had more important patients, knowing very well I had to rest for health reasons!! When I told her that her attitude toward me had become rather adverse because I refused to get charged for another consultation, she grew defensive and called SECURITY on me! The security guy offered to help me by giving me a voucher for a taxi which THE ENTIRE STAFF COULD'VE DONE HOURS AGO when I told them I couldn't afford one. When I got home, I threw up a bit from the nausea I had been feeling at the hospital and finally got some rest. Evil service!!

Called to see if my symptoms were severe enough to come in to the ER at night in an effort to avoid wasting time for myself or the ER. The woman who answered the phone was extremely unprofessional and rude. I did not even get a chance to finish asking my question before she informed me that we can t tell you what to do; you have to decide that for yourself . I wish there was another emergency room near here.

I want to review this review function. I've lost my long scathing expose on the incompetence of the ER quacks twice now. This is highly abridged, all the details are hard to imagine happening somewhere other than the set of punk'd or some analogous hidden camera prank show.

My wife was having some kind of bad skin reaction with both her hands that progressed at an alarming rate. Over two hours in the lobby later,a "doctor" came in to look at it for a maximum of five minutes. He then walked out to a nurse's computer and wisely spent ten minutes scanning google image search results for the words "herpes hands" as his SOLE medical reference by which he deduced his diagnosis. He then very condescensingly informed her that she had a savage case of "hand herpes" and that she has to wear rubber gloves or she could not touch her 3 year old daughter. He prescribed herpes cream, and gave her some gloves to wear on her way out as she sobbed in confusion and disgust. Thanks to doctor pretend to do his job, she had anxiety attacks about being consumed by the black plague of dirty herpes.

After 3 days the cream AND gloves exponentially exacerbated what we then learned from a trained medical professional was a severe allergic reaction to benzocaine. Youre better off on WebMD than going to sit in a waiting room for 2 hours to see Dr. Google.

This is the worse place in the USA!!! I moved from another country, from Ukraine, and it seems we have much better medicine there! I had such a bad experience with the doctors, they will treat only your simptoms, nobody interesting to find a reson of your simptom, nobody interning to help you there. They also put fake gastational diabet to my friend, how we know, we just had glucometer and we checked it and it was 120 after 100ml of glucose but they told her she had 190, then they rechecked it and it was already normal. Please if you live there and looking for a good doctor, find another place, I don't recommend you this hospital at all!

Honestly, as a Canadian, I've heard countless horror stories about American hospitals, but I believe I was extremely fortunate to have a pretty good experience at Mount Nittany hospital in May of 2019, I had broke my right ankle while on a bachelor party and the staff at Mount Nittany had me in and out in under an hour, very friendly medical staff, had me laughing, even took a look at my friend's arm while we waited for my cast to dry before we left for home, thank you again!

A terrific place, great facilities! I was visiting friends in Penn Stated and ended up having preterm labour. So instead of giving birth in NYC, I gave birth there.
The hospital meals are so much better than those you got in any hospital in NYC. The nurses are sweet just like angels! I really like Emily, Laura, Ann and Betty.

I read most of the "reviews" of this hospital, and I cannot imagine what people expect in an Emergency Room.

If a person comes in with pain and chronic issues (like kidney stones, or other chronic and painful conditions), they NEED TO SEE THEIR PRIMARY PHYSICIAN for PAIN MANAGEMENT, FIRST.

Women delivering babies? Get over yourselves. Women have babies, every day, across this planet and some of them deliver under the most dreadful conditions imaginable - unsanitary facilities, unsterilized equipment, filthy linens, and NO medications available. You are not the first woman to ever give birth and you will not be the last. Be a little more appreciative that you have access to health care and hope that your baby is born healthy.

Rude? Well, then tell the staff, politely, that you are upset, uncomfortable, in pain, frightened, or whatever your issues are, and to please be patient with you. SPEAK to the staff instead of demanding to be "cured," immediately. If you speak to them with understanding that you are only ONE of many, many other patients, you'll be amazed at how differently you'll be treated. "Thank you," and, "Please," go a LONG way from a patient.

If a patient enters the ER with chest pains and heart palpitations, you had better believe that they're going to run every test imaginable because they are going to do everything to avoid a law suit in case the patient expires and to TREAT a condition if it is life-threatening.

And, no - I am NOT involved in the health care industry, in any capacity. I've spent countless hours and days in the ER and hospital rooms with life-threatening conditions, and other conditions that only seemed life-threatening.

Be grateful that you're not in Zimbabwe.

This is the WORST hospital I have ever been to in ...

This is the WORST hospital I have ever been to in my life. I have a chronic illness and was a student at Penn State before I had to withdraw from said illness and this hospital was my only option. The health center on campus sent me to the ER. I was admitted. Things were fine the first night and I was about to be discharged, but I fainted IN THE HOSPITAL AND BROKE MY NOSE. The doctor admitted me for a second night. She wouldn't give me tylenol or advil for the pain and she put me on SUICIDE WATCH! I had to have people watch me use the bathroom. It was degrading. All because I fainted. She told me that there was nothing wrong with me and that I had Munchausens and was doing this to myself. She said I was a drug-seeking teenager and she wasn't going to play my games. She then started screaming at me - and I screamed back. It was unprofessional and ridiculous. The she had a psychiatrist come in and evaluate me. The psychiatrist said she didn't believe anything was wrong and that I actually WAS ill, but the when she told that to the doctor, the doctor refused to believe it. Really?? My dad tried to call and speak with the head nurse or doctor while I was admitted and they refused. They said I hadn't given consent even though I had many times. Also when I asked for an ice pack for my nose the nurse screamed at me and said "there are people on this floor DYING!"

My hospital stay was like an episode from the Twilight Zone. I did nothing wrong. STAY AWAY. This is the worst hospital in the world. I hate that I even have to give it 1 star. I am now diagnosed with POTS, a condition KNOWN for fainting so take that you stupid doctor. I wish I remembered her name. I am not the type of person who would ever sue someone but we were considering it because my rights were violated and I was injured among other things.

If you get admitted to this hospital, God bless you.

I love the place and staff. I'm happy with my PCP and OB. But when I decide to go to dermatologist... What a surprise! their dermatologist wants me to go to PCP first ($$$&time) and then go to him ($$$&time). Sweet - I pay for this expensive insurance (PPO) specially for that. Thank you doctor, I'll find better appointment elsewhere. And know what??? I'll find PCP and OB in that place too. Somebody else will pay for Nittany medical group.

I suspect that I may have skin cancer, and I want somebody see it soon.

Yesterday I went to the ER in an ambulance suffering from severe lower back/sciatica pain. I broke my tailbone last year from falling off a latter. Due to that fall I developed this sciatica problem. Yesterday it became unbearable. I can't sit, stand, walk, lay down or anything for that matter. I am useless. When I arrived at the hospital yesterday I got looks from nurses and doctors of complete disgust. They profiled me hard. They refused to give me any painkillers even though I was crying cries I've never cried before. The doctor said he didn't believe I was in any pain after X-ray came back with nothing broken. I tried to explain to them it is nerves, not broken bones, and I needed an MRI. They didn't believe me. Doctor said he was having the incredibly patronizing nurse set up my discharge papers and security to escort me out because I was crying too loud and being a disturbance. I'm not sure what to do with ER mistakes and refusal of services. Any advice will be appreciated. I am so saddened by the treatment I received at this ER. And to be clear, this is my second time at this hospital. The first experience there was exceptional. The doctor and nurse were incredibly accommodating and compassionate. This was a singular incident regarding nurse Carla. The doctor refused to give his name and had name tag turned around.

I give this place a 5 for the nurses but a 1 for the doctor on staff during our recent unfortunate visit. My daughter had a laceration that required stitches. The nurses were attentive and took care of our needs but the Doctor on rotation - Dr. Botti, had the bedside manners of Archie Bunker. She spoke to my daughter in a condescending manner without regard with how her communication would affect my daughter. I realize the doctors see many patients but there is no excuse for making a teenager feel badly for her injury.

I went into the ER at 2:00 am over a year ago because I was experiencing chest pain and heart palpitations. Broke my leg, went to the emergency room, one of the automatic doors just didn't work, I knocked on it several times and and the staff just pointed to the other door. I literally couldn't use my right leg. After hobbling around to a functioning door and getting examined, I was told I had one fracture and it would heal nicely. After a follow up the next week, however, it turns out that I had three fractures, a torn tendon, and needed surgery! Staff was friendly but, in retrospect, completely inept.

I could honestly not say better things about MNMC. I've been here twice, once as the wife of a patient (my husband cut his hand badly and was treated by the ER) and once as the patient (I delivered my daughter here in October). Both times were wonderful experiences, particularly my labor, delivery, and postpartum care.

We were treated respectfully, kindly, and quickly. My husband was in and out in less than 2 hours (and on a football home game day, as well!), and the labor/delivery and postpartum nurses are WONDERFUL. I particularly want to emphasize what a great place this is to give birth. My wishes and concerns were addressed promptly, respectfully, and graciously, and I received excellent support during the whole process: labor, delivery, post-partum and newborn care, nursing, etc. They treat new parents to a wonderful, delicious congratulatory lunch/dinner (complete with sparkling cider!), and all staff is available any time for any help needed. I would love for all of my children to be born here, and I think very fondly of my experience in the hospital thanks to the care I received - and this is saying something, since women generally don't look fondly on their time in labor!
