I went here for lunch and had the hanger steak, which was fantastic. Perhaps it had something to do with the Texas beef. Extremely tender, well cooked and tasty. The cornbread had jalapenos and was quite good, and the form of small muffins. The folks working in the restaurant were all very nice and welcoming. I could see why this is a popular place and would gladly return to try some of their other dishes.

We stopped through on a Saturday around 7 p.m. and waited about 75 minutes for a 4 top. It's fine to order drinks and starters while you wait. The waiting areas are well kept and interesting; the place is buzzing with activity.

The restaurant is expansive with multiple seating areas. We landed on the back porch. It is a nice setting, and a clean place.

The hostesses, hosts, valet attendants, bussers, bartenders and wait staff are all well trained and friendly. Bar staff gets an A+. Our waitress disappeared on us towards the end of our meal, but another one easily covered to help get us out of there.

My family got in to pretzels and pimento, corn dog shrimp, chicken and waffles, corn flake chicken salad, chicken fried steak, and a chicken sandwich. But the food is just alright. The plates are pretty. The portions are massive (you can easily share). None of us were overly impressed with the entrees. Except, the Mac and Cheese is creamy, delicious, and shouldn't be missed.

This place is excellent for a party. If you're interested in spending some quality time with someone (first date) or a group. Also, if you find yourself into a longer wait, I think you could eat apps and drink on the front porch and get out of there in 45 minutes.

Ask for the specials. You'll miss out. My friend asked and got at least 3-4 different dinner items not listed on the menu. I got steak, shrimp and chicken topped with onion rings with mashed potatoes underneath. It was definitely southern comfort I was looking for after a long flight and airport food. Very sizable portions. We arrived at 6:00pm and in just 10minutes maybe 20, the place was packed! Patio Bar started to accumulate people to where I felt rushed to eat (on the bar) but I digress. I wasn't going anywhere. This place is good, and a fun fact we learned was that it was featured on Food Network which isn't displayed anywhere so it's not like they boast about it. I recommend on your trip if you're just passing by. Don't leave without at least trying the moonshine.

Oh. My. God. This place is a gem! Everything was amazing! The food and drinks were some of the best I ve ever had. It s also made very apparent how good this place is based on the long wait to get a seat. However the wait is more than worth it.

I freaking love Moonshine! The staff are great and they give you complimentary popcorn and cornbread during your meal. The chicken and waffles are especially good with huge portions so you're sure to take some home with you. Both outdoor patios are really comfortable and great places to relax and enjoy a delicious meal. I'm excited to try their sunday brunch!

Valet your car. I tried to park on the street and ended up parking next to a car that was broken into.

Best unlimited brunch in the city. The wait is usually over an hour but well worth it.

Came here for a late lunch. The food was excellent. Southern cooking, so heavy and a little greasy, but not in a bad way. The price was middle of the road, but was commensurate with the quality of food. Our server was very sweet and attentive. I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone looking for some southern food.

Where do i start? The Green Chili Mac was a surprise. It was much more than a cheesy mush as some mac n Cheese is... There were sweet juicy niblets of corn & fresh green bell pepper to add a crisp sweetness to this savory dish. My husband had a very generous pile of tender babyback ribs. The portions were so large we could only eat half of our servings. We still wanted to try the white chocolate bread pudding. It was good, but didn't need the raisins to detract from the mellow chocolate flavors.

This place will be a staple I tell all ATX visitors about! It was the bees knees. I suggest the calamari, friend green tomatoes, burger, and peanut butter moose pie. It was drool worthy. If you are in downtown Austin this is a must eat venue.

One of my favorite locations for delicious bar food. Got there about two, it was not packed. The service was very friendly and attentive. Bring your hunger - portions are filling. Similar to a place in Denver I liked.

I love this place - first restaurant I was taken to upon visiting Austin. Now that I love here it will be a regular. Fried green tomatoes with goat cheese and roasted red peppers could have turned me into a vegetarian!!

Center cut pork chop is the real deal. Everything on the menu looked good, but it waiter pointed us in the right direction, and was honest about the things he didn't like, which was a short list. Great atmosphere and cool place to hang out...a lot bigger than expected. Be prepared to wait... Went on a Monday night and it was 1 hour wait. Would definitely go back

The food was phenomenal! If you are looking for southern comfort food this is the place. I had the meatloaf and my husband had the chicken fried chicken both of them were awesome!! The restaurant itself is historic and very quaint and service was very good as well.

To say Moonshine serves comfort food, that simplifies it too much. You will recognize the items on the menu, but they take it to the next level by making their dishes more complex: deeper or brighter. The atmoshpere, an old home near Waller Creek, and serving popcorn to snack on while waiting for your meal, add to the homeiness feel.

The place is very cute and food was good but the wait was horrible. 1-1/2 wait for a table for 2, then a 45 min wait for the food. Got there at 7:00, left at 9:25. During this entire time, it was so loud that we could not hear each other talk. 3 stars because we enjoyed the food, but we won t be coming back.

The server has a problem answering your question he gave me a bunch of information that was very unnecessary and still did not answer my question giving his opinions on what he likes and not what I wanted.
It looks the part but it ain t the part

Congratulations, Moonshine Grill! I award you with the Best Chicken Fried Steak Award! You did it! Way to go guys! And you told me you were only the third best?! Well update your marketing materials, peeps. First place.

No but seriously great eats. The chicken fried steak was crispy outside and soft inside with excellent gravy. Too much to eat I couldn t finish which is saying a lot! Our waitress was awesome in guiding us through the menu to find something that would work for each of us. Free valet parking was nice too because parking stinks downtown.

If you were to tell me that this place has gourmet macaroni and cheese and that i would love it, i woudln't believe you. Its amazing and it fills you up, good luck trying to eat anything else after you eat this massive meal. Great service, good prices and good food.

Always love the food although its dissapointing you cant order take out. I had one sever though who was clearly new because it took 10 minutes to get water and they had salty popcorn set out on the table.

They have a good buffet-style brunch with stations distributed throughout several interior rooms and exterior seating areas. Service was also excellent. Expect a wait on weekends - about an hour for 2 people.

Definitely get the shrimp corn dogs! The jalapeno hanger steak was amazing. Also, the Blind Mule is delcious, but dangerous. Comfortable restaurant that seemed great for a crowd or for a date.

Didnt have a chance to eat there, just went in for a couple of drinks but the place was pretty busy for mid-week so must be good. Staff was friendly, nice out door area to drink beers. They have some fancy beers but $3.50 Lone Star was good enough for me.

I m just giving 4 stars because I hated how the bartender treated me. he was so snobbish and rude. I'm glad I waited to be seated at a table. the waiter Shawn, he was super friendly and polite. showed me a dish that I LOVED! one of the best dishes i have ever eaten in texas. this place its a jem! My sister & I stopped by on a mildly busy Friday afternoon, to our surprise, we were seated right away. The wait staff was very pleasant and helpful with it being our first time there. If you're eerie on the prices, let me tell you... it's well worth it! Talk about Texas sized portions! My sister had the Chicken-Fried Steak with mac & cheese, and I enjoyed the Green Chile Macaroni. They were both delicious and we had plenty to take with us to enjoy again later (with their complementary cornbread) we will definitely be back on another trip through Austin.

The food is always great as well as the service. We arrived 30 minutes before opening and had to park two blocks away. Moonshine Grill has valet parking, but they do not validate, so your parking only adds to the bill. They get 5 stars when they address parking in a way that does not add to the bill. I don't think it is fair to the wait staff to charge for parking during brunch. The wait staff probably is not tipped as well during a buffet and to add parking to a potential tipper's bill could eat into a total tip. Our waitress was up early working Sunday morning and worked hard to make sure our experience was excellent and I hope she has a great day.

The food and service were excellent. I was traveling solo for business and although the restaurant and bar were busy, I was treated with such care from finding a seat, to recommendations on food and drinks. The blackened catfish and grits were heavenly.

Food was all delicious but expect a wait for a table pretty much any night of the week. We went on a Wednesday night and were told our wait would be 1-1.5 hours. We were seated in almost exactly 1.5 hours. They are not exaggerating! Order a drink (or two) and an appetizer (roasted garlic bulbs are delicious and a generous portion) from either of the two bars while you wait. Self seating bars and high top tables can be a little awkward when there's lots of people eyeing/waiting. Wish there was a way to make that process more orderly in any high demand open seating area but overall great food and great ambiance, especially with the firepits/fireplaces in cold weather! Wish we'd saved room for dessert!

The shrimp appetizer was good. I had the apple pie and a potato. The potato was good and the apple pie was great! We sat outside, which was pretty hot in the early evening. We had over half our party present and we still had to wait to be seated for our reservation.
