Updated 11/17 **I have rented from CJ Real Estate for over a year and they have been responsive to any maintenance concerns promptly and efficiently I have not had any concerns with the staff either on the phone or in my home. Now at November 2017 I believe I can make a bit different review, I have had a pile of tree limbs from summer storms that they had to get "approval" for that are still in the exact place they started

I had an appt scheduled to see a house the person didnt show up so i called the office and was told to wait 20 more mins and if no one shows up then call back so I waited no one showed up I called back and then no answer... ok, I let it go and then ended up getting a call a couple of days later from a young lady she apologized and set up an appt for me to view the home. I get there the house was nice enough so i reached out to the young lady and proceeds to tell me to put my application so I did and I had to pay the application fee plus tax.. Not even 12 hours later I get an email from Renee the Director of leasing telling me the house was rented and that i need to look for another home. I immediately called and asked her why did they push so hard for me to get an application in if there was already one pending or at least let me know that there was one processing and give me the option of putting in an app now or waiting to see if they other applicants went through or not she goes on to tell me that they did and I promise to goodness they did not. I asked her to refund my money because I wasn't happy with the way they are doing business and she lets me know she will not be refunding my fee's. I want to warn anyone that is thinking about doing business with this company to be careful because they are not right and will Scam you out of your money. I am getting mine back through my bank but I wanted to let everyone know what kind of business they are running.
Dori was the most amazing agent I have had the pleasure of working with. She went way above and beyond what she needed to do. I literally was 8 days from needing a specific place to live and she found me three places to choose from and which would be the better fit for me. CJ Realitors are exceptional beyond any others I have worked with. I am a military spouse and we move often, we own our property and it s managed thru another company as I so wish CJ had my property to manage. Maybe in the future they will see about property closer to Military installations. Please look them up and you will not be one bit disappointed. From a high stressful business woman/military wife I recommend them to the highest. Thank you all for taking the stress and worry off of this Military Wife. God Bless
They will try every way possible to take your money. If you ever take reviews into consideration, use this one. There are so many other good places to rent from that are honest. These people are the most unprofessional people I have ever dealt with before. Save every single document you can and take before and after pictures if for some reason you have to rent from them.
We were approved for an apartment in February and supposed to move in March 1. It always was pushed back and the employees were rude. Our first leasing agent even told us the company was terrible and we should go somewhere else. We didn't believe her and she either quit or was fired that same day, we aren't sure. By the middle of May we just decided to get our double deposit back. It doesn't matter that is was the cheapest apartment in the best area, they won't make repairs so the city will inspect it then say it's our fault for waiting. They started getting estimates in the beginning of March for the parking lot repairs and unit repairs and didn't make the unit repairs until the end of April, no parking lot repairs were made (remember we had paid a double deposit, the price of 2 months rent, in February to move in ASAP). They tried to blame the city for not doing another temporary occupancy permit. Why would they? There was one issued the year before to give the owner time to repair the lot, they bought it months ago knowing these repairs need to be done but those repairs still weren't made. There are still no plans to repair the parking lot but the unit is back up for rent. Run as far away from this company as you can.
I did not have air for 22 days with most of the days being in the 90's. Mind you I have 3 small children and the house was well over 100 degrees in the inside . It took them 2 weeks to put a window unit in they told me they would put two in and only put one. They also told me after they put the window unit in that they would have me a regular unit in 72 hours. didn't get a regular unit until a week after I've asked numerous amounts of time to have my rent prorated they will give you the run around until they are closed for the day. They are very unorganized and unprofessional. They told me multiples stories about why it was not fixed. they also never got back with me I had to call everyday and bug them just to get them on it.
Love love love Dori. She answered my questions and looked for exactly what I was wanting. She had me a place to call home in no time. Highly recommend you ask for her if you are looking for a new place.
No stars... This management company lacks professional capabilities. You can not call and speak to anyone. The Blue River Maintenance Company cares less. I have SEWAGE in my house for over 3 weeks. I can not use bathrooms or sinks. Basement is leaking sewage. NASTY NASTY NASTY
If you don t mind not getting your deposit back, this is the place for you. Mandatory carpet cleaning fees even though the carpet is 64 years old. Mandatory cleaning fees even if you spent 3 hours cleaning the place. Not to mention mandatory fees each month on top of rent. I also had a broken refrigerator for around a month because getting a hold of someone to fix is impossible.
I ve had the opportunity to chat back and forth with a few ppl at this agency. The house I leased was a piece of . It had a roof put on it however it took 2 months for them to reach the landlord to agree to the fixing of this.
The house had horrible mice problems. It also had a toilet linkage that caused the bill to use almost 10,000 gallons of water. They wouldn t reimburse me the whole difference from this bill compared to normal bill. Gave me a credit in which they thought was acceptable.
If your able DON T LEASE FROM THEM such other avenues.
The lawn guy who cut the grass has no respect for the property, tenants things (ie. cars) or quality of work. Had to get onto him about not weed eating 2 weeks ago because the grass around the edges of the patio was over a foot tall. Now he weed eats but does not blow the grass clippings off of the vehicles, driveway, patio, patio table and chairs etc.
Great Experience with Lori ! She is very responsive, professional and prompt , she was very flexible to show me a property more than once and to adress any concerns ..and also to look for additional properties im my price range and space I am looking for..VERY pleased! ~Alicia R.
We have been tenants in a property served by CJ Real Estate (CJRE) for about 3.5 years now. As a renter or homeowner, one would expect to have issues from time-to-time, and we have certainly had bumps along the way. However, CJRE has engaged to resolve those effectively. The best testamonial that I can offer is that we trust them enough to rely on their service for years to come. Jackie is especially a pleasure to interact with: competent, responsive, pleasant, and professional.
Chelsey was so helpful in finding the perfect place! If you are in the market for a new place, she s your lady! She was so helpful and hardworking throughout the whole process.
Agent never showed up for viewing then called me to say a viewing was not scheduled. That's funny cuz she set up the viewing and I had an email confirming the appointment. So I drove all the way there for nothing plus missed work. If you look at the 5 star reviews and read those "people's" other reviews you'll see that they had to pay to boost their own rating. Those people sure get around the country alot.
I viewed one of their properties today. I found the staff to be very professional, engaging and attentive. They didn't just say here it is take a look. They were informative and clear. The property was EXACTLY what I want. I'll be applying for it TODAY!
A bunch of fake reviews the past month. They have only reviewed this business....very obvious. They will not return your deposit. Avoid unless you like stress and lies.
The staff have been very rude and misleading with us. Would not recommend renting a property managed by them. I called them about the process for moving out early when I started shopping to buy a home and they said I just needed to give 60 days notice and I would only be responsible for utilities until it had a new tenant or my lease was up. With that in mind, I put an offer on a house and then called to let them know when I was planning to move out. It took forever to get in touch with someone this time and when we finally did they said that the person I spoke to told me wrong and I would be responsible for rent in addition to the utilities until they moved in a new tenant. They were very rude and told my wife that the financial burden this would cause wasn't their fault and we shouldn't have started buying a house before our lease was up.
My husband and I saw great homes for our budget that CJ had available, but they do not initiate communication whatsoever. I have to hound them to get an answer on what the status in of my application. For all I know it's laying in a pile forgotten and I just handed them $40, for nothing.
These people told me my move in date for 2 months and then waited until 8 days before my date to tell me it won t be ready in time. Because of them I will be homeless for a couple weeks.
I had a great experience with CJ real estate homes. Dori was my agent and was very professional and answered all my questions about my new future home for me and my family. She returned my phone calls in a timely/organized manner and showed me exactly what I was asking for.. I would recommend CJ real estate and highly recommend Dori as your agent.
I have been with them for over 4 years with 2 different residences and they have always been very responsive and professional. When I have had issues at either property their Service Dept has always be fast to respond and get the issue handled. Everyone at the office has always been very friendly and helpful.
My agent that I had was really nice, we did inspection of place and we wrote down everything that was already there before I moved in. I ve lived in one of the properties for 4 months now and I m already ready to move out. Over the past few months there has been excessive leaking from the ceiling in my kitchen and also in my bathroom. I ve put in several maintenance requests and plumbers have been sent out here but they never fixed it! I understand if they are waiting on approval, but they keep saying they are going to call me back but never do, and now when I call they don t even answer. I feel like I m being ignored they could at least have the courtesy to let me know they are trying to work on it, but it s seems like they don t care in the mean time I m suppose to keep dealing with the mess and further damage that is being done. Also I have asthma I ve been having to use my inhaler a lot lately and it could have something to do with mold from the patch in the ceiling they covered up instead of actually fixing it. There is literally water still sitting inside of the ceiling light in my kitchen so I can t use it. I have pictures and videos as proof! I would not recommend this place to anyone!!
RENT FROM SOME ELSE THEY (CJ REALESTATE) TOOK OVER THE MANAGEMENT OF PROPERTY,BEEN ON THE PROPERTY FOR 6AND HALF YEARS NEVER LATER ,NO PROBLEMS THEN OUT THE BLUE SAIDTHE HOUSE SOLD (LIES) JUST WANTED TO RAISE RENT NOT A PROBLEM,NOT ONCE DID THEY ASK ME ANYTHING JUST TOLD ME HAD 15 DAYS TO MOVE ,SAID THE HELP ME FINE A PLACE JUST TOOK MY MONEY AND DID NOT DO NOTHING VERY POOR SERVICE.JUST TAKE PEOPLES MONEY.
The agent Dori that met me went over and beyond, the 1st showing was a very nice house, she knew I was looking for a little bigger place, didn t hesitate to suggest we look a different unit close and in the price I wanted , I highly recommend her and Cj Real estate
My agent was Wendy Felten. She was friendly and made herself very available. I was able to reach her anytime of days with questions as they arose. I initially wanted to see one specific property. After getting a feel for what I was looking for, she pointed out other properties she thought would be a good fit. She was right. We scheduled a showing at 4 pm and by 5 pm the next day, I had my application approved, security deposit submitted, and a move in date determined. I hadn t rented in a long time, but Wendy walked me through every step. She was very familiar with each property she showed, as well as their respective owners. I strongly recommend CJ and specifically Wendy Felten.
Canceled two of my apt tour requests without giving me any explanation. Is it because I have an Asian last name? ( reply to the director: I never receive any email for explanation ( see the picture for proof) and I never called you guys, how can I be yelling if I never called? I think you re talking about a different customer. )
I ve never moved into a home of my own and did every on my own. CJ Real Estate made everything so easy! I thought it was going to be a horrible experience but our agent Dori Putnam is phenomenal. She went above and beyond to help us as much as she could. I would definitely recommend her for anyone. I adore her!! We love into our new home tomorrow! We can t wait!
Terrible company terrible company if you rent or buy property from them take your own photos and get them notarized as well as all other documents. The Matience side of this company is horrible seriously. And the office people here in saint Louis don't never know anything or how to solve a problem the company created always we have to call management like wait you are management. And they do steal money yes they do. Still trying to get money back from a charge from March.
i feel like i m being too nice about the 3/5 stars. but the reason being is because they let me out of my lease early due to poor maintenance and management.
christy jones, the vice president (not sure how?) is one of a kind. i voiced my concerns with her several times about maintenance problems that needed to be addressed and she responded saying, OK i get it- you ve told me three times. i shouldn t have had to tell her twice.
took maintenance 36+ hours to come fix my fridge after i spent $200 at the grocery store. saved my receipt for food reimbursement and they refused.
i m very thankful i was able to work with christy sullivan, dawn, and jackie. they even worked with my schedule allowing me out at a good time, and being present on the final walk through.
christy sullivan is awesome. very warm and friendly.
dawn is great as well. she worked with me allowing me to end my lease early.
jackie is great too, she provided the proper paperwork stating that it was a lease termination and not an eviction.
Wendy s my real estate agent and she s been very helpful and awesome. She has been very patient with us when we wanted to see multiple different properties in Blue Springs and Grain Valley. Luckily we found a place and are super excited about it. The application process was pretty simple and anything I forgot, they were quick to ask for. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a new apartment, duplex, or house.
Update: they asked me to call them even after I explained to them that I do not trust what they say over phone calls. The screenshot of the emails are below. Just remember that this is how they treat you. If it doesn t fit into their little picture then they will ignore it.
This company is terrible. We did not know who these guys were until our current management company gave some of their accounts to them back in December 2018. We were informed in a letter from our current management company that CJ was taking over and they would be mailing us information on how to pay them. I was not offered anyway to cancel the existing lease as a courtesy or anything. I waited approximately a week into December and called them regarding not having a way to pay them for rent. I was informed that nothing was set up and all of the accounts were in a stack and not filed yet. Their advice: Mail a check. No offense, but I'm not mailing almost a thousand dollars. A week goes by, then we receive a call stating that our rent was late and we would be evicted if not paid. The kicker of the whole story is that they added late fees because we didn't pay the rent by the 5th and would not waive them due to their mistake, claiming that the earlier phone call never happened. Apparently, there were previous late fees that were not paid with our previous management company. When I spoke with the local property manager who I used to manage at a local hotel I was informed that we could do a payment plan to make payments every two weeks as that was our paydays. Then I was informed from their corporate office that that was wrong and we had to pay all of it immediately. We said fine because, at that point, what else could we do? Currently, we have a dishwasher that is not working and hasn't been for two months. They come in to do their semi-annual inspection and claimed the "whole apartment was messy and unkempt" in a "lease violation" sent out a couple days later. One of the items on it was dirty dishes. I reply with "we can't do the dishes without a functioning dishwasher". I get a "have you put in a request with OUR team yet?" The kicker of THIS story: we did two months and the local property manager did when she was here to do the semi annual inspection. After informing them of this, I get a "we'll figure this out ASAP". That was 9AM this morning. I have a few followup emails and finally the Office Manager, Michelle adds Ryan, their maintenance supervisor to the email chain after both her and the local property manager possibly ignore me all day and now he says that they will get it fixed "Immediately". Still no date for completion. We'll see how this goes. The amount of unprofessional behavior exhibited by this company is unreal and has been from the beginning. I honestly think that they sometimes try their best but are overwhelmed with the new properties. Maybe they should consider adding some staff to help. There are plenty more stories to this and if anybody would like pictures or emails please let me know. If I was again the individual's boss, someone would be answering for their mistakes and decisions
My property was placed with this company after the sale of another company. In the time my property was with this company my tenants never had an inspection (which was in my contract). By the time the tenants moved out after two years, the house was fully infested with German Cockroaches (I had asked them to check for them a few months prior and they sent their repair guy out to check; he said there were none); the four children had colored all over the walls, the carpets on the main and upper floors were fully soiled with some sticky substance, ink from markers, and daily dirt; the refrigerator was molded, unplugged, and shut; the garbage disposal was jammed and full of trash; holes in the walls had been patched with calking and spot painted; the control panel of the dishwasher had been broken off; most of the mini-blinds had been torn-up or completely ripped out of the windows; the basement floors were covered in mold from water coming in the windows due to broken window-well covers and failure to clean the gutters; and the yard was never maintained (we had to pay a separate company $800.00 to mow the yard, cut back bushes and weeds out of fence lines, remove trash and yard debris, and spray weed killer; all of which should have been done by the company for a monthly fee paid by the tenant or by the tenant themselves per our contract.)
I have no clue what our monthly fee to them went towards because it certainly wasn't for any work that they put in on their part. We are still, five months later, trying to recoup money from our tenants for all we had to repair with no help from the company.
