Mellow Yellow Restaurant Review

Very enjoyable! Excellent food & service. The restaurant was also located in an easily accessible area.

Came here for breakfast and got the Irish skillet with white toast, the food was great the water service was constant. Our server didn't seem to know what he had on stock for drinks. I think the poor man was tired or something. But I will go back next time I visit the city again.

Quaint spot, good service and comfortable feel. Healthy portions! Looking forward to hearing their Friday jazz - looks like it would fit in well. Nice to see a flourishing local business.

Place is decent. Nothing bad to say . Sides are pretty pricey in my opinion 3 small strips of bacon was 6$ .

Like it overall but the staff is nice but sometimes is backwards and slow but great food

The food is good, don't get me wrong. But please make sure to confirm your order with the server and check your bill before paying to make sure everything is correct.

As far as atmosphere, it's a great place to have a relaxed breakfast, their crepes are amazing and the breakfast selection is diverse. It can get pricy depending on what you order but most of the sides are available to order a-la-carte.

Poor, greasy fairly unappetizing food. Many better places in the area. The decor is ok.

I love Mellow Yellow. Super fast service and delicious food. Another of my go to places when I'm in need of a good breakfast not made by me.

I'm only rating from 2 years ago. Dining alone was a good experience and my plate was packed with good tastin food. The staff were considerate and were well aware of the customer needs.

Worst waitress ever. Even worse customer service. I was extremely patient in waiting for the waitress. For him to bring butter and syrup, then for him to refill my coffee, then for him to clean my table, which he still hasn't while I write this review and then for him to get me the manager. The manager comes and does absolutely nothing to rectify his behavior. I felt ignored the while time and played this $11.09 Bill while I watch 3 kids run around the tables. What the he'll is going on here? I'll never come here again.

Mellow Yellow is a Hyde Park institution. They basically serve American food with a French I influence. The rotiser chicken is always a great choice. The crepes are savory or sweet. The drinks are the best on the south side outside of a true bar. My 9 year old and 7 year old love this place. The restaurant is very family friendly. I give the place four star for constantly good food and drinks. The prices have went up in the last few year but they always have some kind of special .

Too many other options in Hyde Park to make this a go to spot. Their food is cheap but it tastes the way it's priced. With Clarke's right up the street with really good diner food there is no reason to come here. Everyone was nice but that was about it. The restaurant and bathroom were kind of dingy.

Sunday brunch review.
1. 10 minutes after being seated no one bothers to take our orders. Only after we went over to the bar to search for someone, our server came.
2. Food took 30 minutes to arrive. FYI it was just 2 of us so not a ton of food to cook.
3. Each skillet we ordered was around 15$ + tax. Which is way pricey for that standard of food being served.
4. We were given flimsy plastic forks for our food. I understand it s COVID time and disposable spoons are the new norm but please provide decent cutlery which won t bend every time I poke a cooked potato.
P.S. if they can serve plate and glass of water which my server has touched, I wouldn t really mind clean, washed and wrapped normal forks.
5. Couldn t finish our food with those bendy forks, we waited for 10 minutes to get hold of a different server to ask for take out boxes, yet no sight of our server. We decided to go directly to the bar and pay there without receiving our cheque on the table.
Phewwww. Glad I was able to get out of the mismanaged mess.

Had breakfast with a large group of at least 30 people. There was 1 waitress 1 drink person neither could remember the orders. The food was horrible pancakes seem to be the frozen kind and were served cold along WITH cold eggs and sausage. I sent back to be warmed and after a long wait they came back still cold. If you want breakfast Do Not Go there try the cafeteria a couple doors down and get freshly cooked food thats hot off tne grill.

High priced! $3.25/fountain drink (free refills/to go cup) $23 Steak dinner was just ok. Steak was delicious. Broccoli was obviously the bagged frozen broccoli and it was bland and the mac n cheese was good ole Kraft blue box. Tasted alright. The menu says meal comes with soup or salad but I was charged an addt'l $1 for my seafood 'gumbo' soup. It was soggy rice and itty bitty shreds of crab meat and zero seasoning. The waitress was SUPER knowledgeable, very helpful, prompt and attentive. She made our visit pleasant. The corned beef sandwich had about 5 thin slices of meat and looked like a kids meal. The chicken & waffles were delicious. I kept seeing people order this huge overflowing chili bread bowl so I would try that IF I happen to go again.

For an option in Hyde Park that won't break the bank, this is the place to go. The skillets are wonderful, and Joanne, is great. They even sell booze so if you feel like tipping one back, you can do so as well. The service can be on or off, but the quality of the food isn't bad at all. A great option in Hyde Park.

There jumbo shrimp and baked potato Plus long Square burgers on a French roll with three different types of fry are my suggestions Plus there Long Island Iced Tea amazing.

Cozy little restaurant with great staff exceptional food that's always fresh hot and delicious

So I called early on Christmas day because it was one of the only places that was open. For my surprise they didn't have anything. They where suppose to close at 7PM but they sold out since 4pm. No chicken no burgers no fries. They should close if they are not ready for business on a busy day.

Such a diamond in the rough... Happen to find by just walking around...wonderful staff and food...

We carried out twice while staying across the street at the Embassy. The pizza was very tasty and the gluten-free crust they use is good. The price was comparable to other places with similar. The staff were friendly and quick to serve.

Excellent for brunch ! Never been there for dinner. Excellent service. Going back for sure.

Ordered appetizers sampler platter. Battered food items were greasy. Server was way to new to be left alone. He hovered too much. Didn't know the bar specials. Did know table service for bottle beer and frosted mug.
Didn't know kitchen menu items... sampler platter was incomplete and he didn't know it.
Dissatisfied with the overall experience. Maybe an experienced server would have changed things for me.

Surprisingly great spot! I've seen it for years, but never had a reason to go. Until we were hungry on a Sundie (Sunday). I ordered the Quickie Lorraine, my hubby got the basic beacon and eggs with a beer. Which they also serve mimosas, score!, and our food items were delicious! The menu is maybe 3 pages of food with a mix of breakfast, brunch or dinner/lunch items. I guarantee, this is a place that will please everybody's tastes. The staff is very attentive and friendly also. Love it, we'll be back. :p

Our waiter was pretty trash. I was there with my grandmother and they gave me a child's sized plate (I'm in my 30's) she told them to bring me another piece of chicken and asked why my meal was so small he got an attitude. He just didn't want to be there I could tell by how he was interacting with other customers. My rotisserie chicken was tasty and my grandmother enjoyed her French vegetarian sandwich.

The place is outdated and way too expensive for bland and tasteless food. Very dissapointing for a place that is supposed to have such a great reputation and history...

My favorite restaurant. Went for my birthday. Food and service excellent.

Me and my daughter was out shopping today so we decided to eat here I was very disappointed that I mad that decision the bill was $60 for 2 the lemonade was the worse I ever had we got the steak omelette which was too much meat with French toast she got pancakes I didn t realize the omelette was $21 a piece that wasn t on the menu the price for that is scratch off I should have asked first I was at first over charged for the lemonade which has no flavored we will never go back

My service is always great. Thanks to the friendly staff here. And the drinks are strong and amazing!

Breakfast skillet with the chorizo was really, really good. But the pancakes - my favorite food - were dry and flavorless. Ultra-upsetting! If I'm in the area, I'd stop in for the skillet, but when a diner can't do pancakes...I just don't get it.

Food was good, presentation was nicely done, service was polite and prompt. Enjoyable experience.

This restaurant has been in Hyde park for many many years however the food isn t good, the customer service can be a lot better and they run out of food often. I ve visited the restaurant several times because it s a local and the only local spot that serves mimosas in the morning. Eggs are only prepared 1 way (even tho they ask how would you like your eggs ) and they do not serve hash browns, just fried potato chucks. If you re looking for good food this isn t the place however if you re looking for mimosas in a relaxed environment it s ok.

Everything seems cheap until you get your bill. Gratuity there is way too high. What I thought was going to be $30 turned out to be $50.

Don t order the Apple Cinnamon Grench Toast!! No flavor, dry, bad after taste! The worst part is the cold apples they put on top!

This place has absolutely gone downhill. Firstly, my bill was over $200 for four people. The food was terrible, service was even worse and they had the audacity ask for $20+ plus tip when we didn't even see our waiter but once. Please don't waste your time here. Food is below average and the place is overpriced.

Visited once, food was below average, didnt feel like fresh food even though it probably was. Price is normal. Seems to me that there are better options around

This place needs new cooks/chefs. Possibly new management, as well. The quality and taste of food has steadily decreased over the years. Prices are too high for what is offered. Once the bill comes, it's truly not worth it. I saw a previous review comparing the food to "bar food". I agree. This place is losing its good reputation with the changing neighborhood and younger crowd. Definitely in need of fresh ideas for the ambiance and menu.

Used to be my go to for breakfast. Ordered take out and found the longest hair entangled in my eggs... went back though, lol.

I've been to Mellow Yellow before and since my wife and I were in the neighborhood this afternoon, I suggested going there. She had never been but I assured her she would not be disappointed and the cold two block walk in the snow would be worth it.... HOWEVER it was not! We were the ONLY two people there and sat for TEN minutes or more and didn't even get water. One lady was cleaning and two others seemed to be having a meeting with their manager. We also saw a guy in a lavender shirt on an an apron that looked like the guy in the photos on the wall. He didn't acknowledge us either. Just came in a few times to watch CNN. My wife got up at one point to remind them we were waiting but it didn't matter. I was so upset I decided to leave. As we were leaving I thought that the three ladies would acknowledge us, apologize, convince us to stay.... HOWEVER, they didn't even look at us. This had to be the worst customer service I've gotten in my life. Not to mention this is my BIRTHDAY weekend and I choose to go there and my wife and I were treated like we were invisible to everyone and we were the only customers there. Not happy!
If it were possible to give no stars, I would have.

I sent a steak omelette back to the kitchen because I did not like it. I requested the same meal that my date had. When the bill came instead of them giving me the same meal that my date had, they gave me an itemized bill of each serving included in the meal. Price was never the problem but my server, who was wonderful, pretty much told me that the kitchen was irritated so that's why the manager did that. #neveragain

That food was so horrible, the waiter was rude and she looked like a man and they didn't have no coffee bad service . Never going back there again

The customer service was very lovely, and the good was superb. The only downside was the ride patron sitting next to me and my date, but it didn't put a damper on the overall experience.

Breakfast was ok for 5.99 but you must buy a drink there i paid 3.95 for a regular coffee when starbucks is half a block away for way less. What a rip off i left there paying just under 12 dollars for breakfast special and coffee.... ..

I love any place with good food and atmosphere..especially when i get to sit across from my boyfriend and stare into his eyes

The service was really good! I had the daily breakfast special...eggs, Turkey sausage and waffle. The waffle was a bit cold so my butter didnt melt, but everything else was delicious. I will go back again.

My friend tells.me she has been coming here since high school. Clearly a classic venue that should not be missed. Fun decor & helpful, efficient staff.

The woman who waited on my girlfriend and I was outstanding. Very funny and attentive to our needs. Food was very good. Kinda spendy, but a great overall experience.

Ive be been coming here with my mom since I was a kid. I had the catfish which was good and my daughter had, what else, chicken fingers. The honey mustard sauce was very good. I know that seems odd to mention but my daughter had at least two cups of it. Whoa. Its a good place to meet friends and have a bite to eat.

The food was good. The restaurant itself was kind of hot I'm not sure if they didn't turn the AC on or not or they just didn't have it but besides not having air conditioning it was a good place to sit down and have a comfortable meal

Great food. Pretty good service. Was hard to figure out who our waiter was at first but once established he was very attentive. Nice menu selection.

It was a horrible experience, the waiter was extra rude, we waited what felt like 20 mins for any interaction, they seated us next to the restroom. Barely got a glass of water, barely got my order taken, he obviously wasn t listening because we didn t get cheese on our eggs, the food wasn t even hot! Then the waiter had the nerve to put gratuity on our check for 7.20...it was only 2 of us! We ll never go back! Ever ever! When we mention the gratuity he knew exactly what we were talking about and made it seem like a mistake but he didn t help us none after that probably embarrassed. I honestly felt attacked...and singled out. Never again.

I ve been going to Mellow Yellow since they opened in 1976. However, I do not plan to return after my experience today. My husband and I waited patiently for the restaurant to open at 8 am for breakfast. At 8:03 am, the doors were not opened although staff was inside and should have been able to see us standing in front of the window. Finally, a young man came to the door and unlocked it. I reached for the second of the two entry door anticipating that he would say good morning and hold it so that I could follow him in. Instead, he allowed the door to just close in my face without any attempt to hold it. I was stunned that someone in the restaurant industry especially would lack general courtesy.

This has really left a strong impression for me of how Mellow Yellow has changed. Needless to say, after waiting in the area for 30 minutes to eat there we left immediately and went to the restaurant just down the street. Very disappointed with our old favorite, Mellow Yellow. Truly hope they will read this and teach their staff the basics of courtesy and kindness.

A breakfast restaurant that does not open until 9:00 a.m.? I can see the restaurant from my hotel room when I visit monthly, but have not been able to try it since I usually head out before 9:00 a.m. Fortunately, we have Valois.

I love the customer service and prices are great. I love the breakfast items!!!!!
