POOR POOR POOREST PLACE TO EVER TAKE UP SECONDARY EDUCATION (Bottom feeder teachers ALL WORK HERE) STRONGLY ADVISED AGAINST. They are judgemental and dismissive to say the least. Don't waste your time here, unless you enjoy being OSTRACISED.

Very disappointed to talk to them, I wanted to attend for TAE course, they are advertising in their website for July intake! then you call them and hear it's full! I asked to get in touch with the course coordinator due to personal circumstances and having special need child ... they did n't bother to talk to me! I met our local member of parliament easily but the course coordinator did n't have time and care to talk on the phone.

Studied here in 2006-2008. Great facilities and teachers, short walk from Preston market and railway station. On the St Georges Road bike route. Most students just come for their classes or lectures, then go, but in recent years there has been an attempt to encourage more student life and engagement. The campus has a new gym, good library facilities (and helpful librarians). The best secret is St Georges Restaurant on campus which is open at lunchtime. While perhaps not suitable for eating at everyday, it provides a nice lunch if you have an hour to spare, and it is not much more expensive than buying a roll at the cafeteria.

I certainly hope a lot has improved since I went there, 15 years ago, teacher walk outs, loss of results, mixing up classes studied hard and did well for unknown results. After organising a meeting and an official complaint only the students turned up, nobody from NMIT did. I gave up on learning from has-beens and went into self study for the rest of my career, it was much better.

I spent a good 3 hours going through their enrolment process for the Advanced Diploma of Conveyancing only to be told today that the course has been cancelled for the month of February 2018.
To add salt to the wound, they then tell me that it has been postponed to April 2018 but couldn't commit that the course would in fact commence then as it would be dependent on the number of applicants.
I paid for this course in full so now I have to wait for a refund until I can apply at a different college.
I should add that part and parcel of the enrolment process included a competency test and mundane induction by the lecturers.
What I don't understand is why they put applicants through these processes, expect them to commit to the course when they will not in return commit to running the course in the first place.
Poor administration and really poor form to expect applicants to wait indefinitely for when they decide to run a course.
I will be bringing this up with Consumer Affairs as they should be stricken off the record as recognized course providers for being so unreliable.
Fortunately, they are not the only providers for the course that I have applied for and after this experience, I have most certainly lost faith in their abilities to provide adequate learning in a professional field when they run their course so unprofessionally.
Melbourne Polytechnic - Your Learning and Career Partner?
I don't think so!

Update : 21st March 2018.
I rang the number as suggested by the poster below and nobody knew what I was talking about so I got hand balled from one department to the next until I decided that I had had enough and hung up.
The inefficient bureaucracy never ceases to amaze me.
If you want to speak to me, then I suggest you call me because quite frankly, my time is valuable and I don't enjoy wasting it speaking to people who have no idea with what's going on.

Who appeared to be the coordinator let her own 'personal' feelings and narrow perception of me interfere with the creation of our boys CV at the end of his final year. It was my third meeting with her. The second time there was a comment on my appearance. Disappointing that such an intolerant person could be involved with the education and development of young people with special needs. The end of year pathway interview was a joke. It seemed that we were there only to sign off on the bare minimum of what had to be done, the provision of vague and out dated information supposedly for a 'pathway' by someone who didn't care.

The Department of Commerce has become a COMPLETE J...

The Department of Commerce has become a COMPLETE JOKE ever since John Pileggi and other good teachers left! If I could give this place a zero I would!
I've been attending for years, and Commerce Department just gets worse and worse every year!!
There are NO coordinators, the department has NO Manager;
I can't reach ANY teachers to discuss the Diploma of Accounting;
Flexible Delivery is ONLY PART flexible because of 'small demand' so you still need to attend classes if you want to complete a course;
I can't complain to anyone because I'm not allowed to have anyone's name, extension or email address if I don't already have it;
I'm certainly NOT ALLOWED to be taking this complaint higher so here I am after 3 weeks of getting NOWHERE, posting on Google because I can't get anywhere...
I leave emails for teachers and no-one gets back to me;
I call the numbers I have and no-one answers;
Admin have 101 excuses and their advice is call back tomorrow or come in and see someone.
I took time away from work to 'go see someone' and guess what?! No-one is there!!
I found out that there is a course outline for the Diploma, but no-one knows who will be teaching the units, what the text/resources are, and if any or all the units will be available for flexible delivery!
I'm a single mother who has to work full time, while getting an education...How am I supposed get an education at this institution??!

They currently don't have a very effective student...

They currently don't have a very effective student complaint handling system. Complaints handled by faculty, Student Services and Student Experience departments are often one-sided, advantageous to staff, and women.
Complaints made against a staff member won't be taken very seriously as staff would simply be defended by the management hierarchy. Complaints made by female students are often given better priority-- males accused of wrong doing won't be treated fairlyy, as the females making allegations are believed better.

A feminist college. Though Melbourne Polytechnic opens its doors to all genders, there seems to be preference for female leadership. Apart from the fact that females are given better preference in resolving a complaint they are also awarded and some are asked to teach at the college! These individuals are usually featured in the student newsletter, brochures, and on the website. I have never encountered a male student being featured for excellence, being awarded or asked to teach. It has been traditionally like this since Melbourne Polytechnic was known as NMIT. Its better off being funded as a women's college than as a co-educational college as presenting itself as a co-educational college is nothing but a sham.

There have been 4 CEOs in the last 3 years which shows a great deal of instability. Constantly changing CEOs is always a bad sign. Either the CEO doesn't know how to solve an issue because there aren't good or any procedures that work, doesn't care, or simply doesn't want to fix problems. Leadership attitudes often send messages to lower level management and faculty in how subordinates and students would be treated-- not all subordinates and students would be taken seriously but they would also be treated with disrespect. The government shouldn't be funding colleges that do not take student concerns seriously.

They changed their corporate image and website design but kept existing negligent and disrespectful staff who have been creating problems for students. Some of these employees have been there for more than 20 years.

Teaching standards aren't very consistent-- there are great teachers but there are also horrible teachers in the same program. Program managers/leads won't put a new teacher on to replace a bad teacher but keep the bad teacher on the teaching roster to the detriment of future students. They hire industry professionals to teach simply because they are industry professionals regardless whether they are excellent teachers. Areas of serious teaching and program management concerns are Creative Arts Department: ie. Visual Arts, Graphic Arts, Photography, Live Production-- programs that do not have patience with their students.
Students from these courses have been known to complain and tell others about their very bad experiences that are still unresolved.

A , "Them versus us", attitude towards students. The college faculty and management appears to be believing in a brother in arms reality and living in a war against the student body, who are relentlessly attacking them with issues and complaints. The faculty and management view students who bring up issues and make valid complaints as "the enemy" which must be eradicated immediately, by applying adverse disciplinary action. An example of this is deliberately making false assumptions on a targetted student for an excuse to impose a ban on the student from speaking to staff and other students, entering all campuses and to continuing studies. Faculty allegations will simply be backed up by management, Student Services and Student Experience departments.

Lastly, they do not have staff disciplinary procedures but only student disciplinary procedures-- meaning, they do not discipline misbehaving staff but only students for alleged misconduct.

I've noticed quite a few bad reviews posted here. I'm not surprised at them. In fact I believe all of them.

I seriously wouldn't recommend enrolling in any program. I wouldn't change my post until they resolve my issue. The government should close this college down.

I don't recommend this school (Melbourne Polytechnic) and advise people to choose somewhere else or don't sign up at all. I regret ever having signed up with this school.
The enrollment/interview/sign up process was ridiculous and unorganized, And I was sure things would get better from there. Things only got worse.

Teachers were very rude and spoke down to students, they didn't seem to want to help and when a student asked a question they would belittle them. I also had an awful interview experience and was made to feel like I wasn't worth their time and was spoken to like trash.

Everything in class felt rushed and slightly unorganized, right from day 1. Should have been a big red flag.
Their are just too many bad things to say about this school and I hoped for better.
Please save yourself time, money, and heartache and don't choose this school.

I have been coming to this campus for the past 6 years of my life. Long story short i did Enjoy it but at the same time over those years i have been studying i have seen this TAFE go from Okay standards to poor Standards. the teachers almost never keep's track of what is going on in the classroom and that they have slowly lost faith in there students. One other big problem i have noticed is a bit of lack in discipline in some classes that i have personally been part of. And some students get lead off more easy then others . The Enrollment center stuff our at sometimes not the most helpful or kind when it comes to enrollment. and for the last straw the food in the canteen has gone down in quality sense i began at this campus 6 years ago i even got food poising once or twice from the canteen. Take it from me go to another campus.or better go to university.

Did the Diploma of Theatre Arts course there in 20...

Did the Diploma of Theatre Arts course there in 2015. Great work going on at the Prahran campus. Though there is one teacher I had who was completely unfair to her students, was ALWAYS disorganized, bullied her students about their apperance (i.e. -- fat shaming them, mocking their disabilities, etc), always played favouritism with her students, was always overthinking the most irrelevant of details, and she spent more time gloating about how she is such a "well experienced" performer (which she's not) than actually teaching us how to perform. Spent more time forcing her methods down everyones throats rather than letting her students discover their abilities for themselves. She carries such a huge ego on her shoulders.

The teacher's name is Karen Berger and she is by far the worst teacher I have ever seen. No one thinks highly of her, and it's appalling that she's still kept on as a lecturer, especially how she belittles her students. She should have been sacked a long time ago.

I had an IELTS test today at this test centre. I did also IELTS tests previously in different places in Melbourne. Well this place is very nice and well organized and prepared. The other thing is that the staff (Invigilator) were so helpful and humble to make it a relaxed and friendly environment. In particular, there is one lovely lady her name is Jolly and a nice man his name is Andrew. IELTS test usually is stressful task. But with these guys, it was really a wonderful experience. Another man was seatting in registration room for speaking part, he was friendly and start to chat with everyone to give them a positive energy and break the ice to make everyone feel comfortable. Thank you all for being such nice people in this difficult situation.

Management is incompetent at best and constantly promise things they can't deliver. Complaints submitted online don't give a response. Over enrolled the diploma of Community services, leaving classes without teachers, online resources and assessments written in a rush and are filled with errors. Classes squashed in rooms with lack of tables and chairs, which your then sent on a chase to hunt down in other rooms, or classrooms that have broken or inadequate resources. Heading into the last week of term and for one module we have not a proper class for. Course is breaching it's Acwa accreditation.

Number of seats compare to the Melbourne central station PTE exam centre and very quite place. There are public transport available for this place and also you can park your car at Melbourne polytechnic Preston campus for 4 hours and it s free but you want to inform to the security office or guard. Don't ruin your career. You don't get value according to the price. Should be in top of 'world's worst college' list. Don't know how to train students. Seriously either go to cheap college so that both edu and cost is minimum or go to uni where u can get better education. But don't waste your money here where education quality is least and fees are as high as eureka in terms of education quality.

A mixed bag. Studying I.T. area, some of the lecturers had excellent knowledge and were very approachable, but one I couldn't understand at all because their English was so poor. All lecturers were polite and nice and would always make time for students though, and most seemed to genuinely care. Internet often didn't work, plus frequent other I.T. issues causing frustration.

The admin staff were extremely disorganized, zero communication between departments, messages don't get passed on etc, and I was given poor advice when enrolling.

In terms of bullying there also seemed to be some problems, all the mature aged students were polite but some younger students were just rude, arrogant, low quality people, makes it less pleasant to study there. Unsure if I will return for future study, considering other options.

The teaching staff are good, but some of whoever is managing the back end is at times hopeless. Maybe they need more staff? I have no idea.
Recently I tried to enrol in a program, advertised on the website as starting 3 times a year. So I rang for information, the person on the phone was extremely vague about when it started and wouldn't answer the question, but told me it was going to cost a certain price (it later turned out to only be half the quoted price). They then said to find out more I had to enrol online. So I did. I was emailed and told to go to an information and enrolment session, so I did. Once I got there they had no record of me, because for one I'd been told to go to the wrong information session, secondly for the course I wanted to do there wasn't EVER an enrolment / information day, thirdly I had to go to a completely different campus to speak directly to the department about enrolling. Once I got there they were extremely helpful (turns out the course only starts once a year, and informed me of the actual price which was half of the originally quoted price) and rolled their eyes about my experience. Sounds like it wasn't uncommon.
My other experience was when I was a student there several years ago. I was supplied a timetable which clashed with my job, so I had to quit my job and move to cheaper accommodation to afford it. One week before classes started they altered the timetable, and it no longer clashed with my previous job. Come on. People have lives and families to support. I was supplied a vague and poorly worded materials list, which meant when I bought the wrong things I had to go re-purchase items. Half way through the semester they added in another class without warning (which luckily fell on my only half-day off between work & study otherwise it would have been a massive financial mess)

This isn't meant to disparage all the good and hard work that some of the great staff there do, they really do have some great helpful and knowledgeable people. It does seem like a few of the others need to sort it out or get more support though
