Tullamarine Airport continues to invest in income generating infrastructure like shops and parking while largely ignoring the delays customers experience due to lack of capacity for drop offs and pick ups.
The fact they can get away indicates
Amazing airport with all the amenities. Arrivals seems a bit off beat though.
Airport toilets are extremely dirty...worst airport service I had ever experienced
No free Wifi, lacking public transport, Uber X prohibited from working in airport vicinity, car parks overpriced, security and customs unable to cope with periodic surges in passenger numbers, a second rate airport for a first rate city...
At the international airport, there are many shops. It is reasonable to buy tax-free at the airport, but there seems to be no smoking area at this airport.
Domestic is fine but international isnt. If you are looking for the worst way to start a long haul flight, try this airport. Most of the staff are disrespectful and won't miss a chance to make fun of you loudly in front of everyone if you forget something.
Terrible airport. The terminals aren t even connected when you go inside. The Qantas terminal has a bad variety of shops etc.
Big airport but can be confusing to find your way around. Bad parking complex which should be worked on.
Well laid out, good amenities, best feature is the bus/taxi mall outside
This place needs improvement in literally every aspect.
Worst staff of any airport I've been to. I have travelled through this airport many times and it is always the same. No manners and bad attitude. Not a very nice welcome to the country.
Nothing outstanding and missing a rail link to the city.
As a resident of Melbourne who travels overseas occasionally, I usually visit this airport. It is bustling with lots of tourists, and the shops, cafes and markets there are all very well kept, but also quite expensive. The airport is clean and well kept.
I know Australia has outragouse tobacco taxes but let a man have a cigarette before his flight! If my flight crashes and you withheld that last beautiful drag I will curse you with in my final words.
Not impressed with the food options, I understand you're trying to renovate the airport but as a vegetarian that didn't know that was happening and on a flight that food is not included it's extremely disappointing as I cannot even leave to look at domestic.
45 mins wait to get from baggage collection to exit the green lane.... unopened lanes for passengers... just what you want after a long flight.
Melbourne airport by far best airport in the country (Australia)
Great for a single flight - but try coming in from overseas and transferring to domestic after customs - it is a nightmare! You leave customs and then try to find a complete lack of signage to domestic bag drop, but then drag your bags over miles, up escalators as the lifts never work - and have to go through the manual bag drop. Take a copy of LAX and have a bag drop IN customs after you clear them and then just drop your bags and go
Coming back from Melbourne to where I live, I should speak highly that it would be just a normal flight back home, and yes it was. But, what inspired me to write the review... was the food!
I was excited to go back to Newcastle because of the lounge in Virgin Australia (for Velocity Gold) but I decided to eat at McDonald's and Krispy Kreme and let me tell you, it was delicious!
At McDonald's, I ordered a Gourmet Created Crispy Chicken Burger and the chicken, lettuce and cheese all tasted exceptionally good. I felt posh!
At Krispy Kreme, I ordered a Traditional Cinnamon and a Original Glazed. (the glazed one was heaven in my mouth!)
So when I went back to the hometown... I felt so proud to eat there.
Terrible airport, dark, dingy full of fumes. Every other airport I've been to is nicer.
Planespotting in the airport is cool, but I hate the fence, it blocks you from getting a clear shot. I would give it a 5 if there was a platform to go planespotting, and not just to stand on top of your car.
Loved the airport! The viewing areas were good and there were alot of the new models (a350s and 787s) from different airlines.
On my exist flight the plane was literally standing next to the wait area. I could even see the pilots and waved to them.
This airport is a joke! There is no fast public transport option to the CBD, meaning the only option is taxi, which is hit n miss as there can be hundreds of people in queue, or the Skybus, which seems to me managed at snail pace. You can never reliably arrive here on time and make it to where you need to be. Not to mention the inability to handle "fog" - take some lessons from Europe, where they seem to be able to get people in and out quickly and can still operate with a degree of actual fog, not the 'mist' that seems to cripple us with fear here.
$1.1 billion dollars profit for parking. You get a 1 star, you're welcome
looks ok but could have been much better than this compared to other big cities airports like Singapore and Hongkong. Had to wait a long even in business class queue as there was not enough space to make more than 2 lines.
Melbourne Airport domestic is a large airport by Australian standards. Most check in now is done by self-service kiosk, although there are usually staff around to help when you have an issue. Lots of food options inside including a Krispy Kreme kiosk. Also various retailers including Victoria Secret and Seed. I found the bookstore had a great range of books too. Airport parking is very expensive.
Terminal 4 security, especially the crew managing some new screening technology are lacking the basic communication and flow management skills required to test new technology in such an environment. Constant re-screening of baggage with no explanation as to what's going on, rolled eyes and defensive passive aggression when you question it, just an absolute disgrace. Signs might be a good start.
Worst service and they don't have enough staff. .Even a under developed and developing countries have better airports and customer services
Tiger Air is rubbish. Staff are rude. 120 grams over on luggage and they charge $46 what a joke!!! Wish i could leave minus review.
The bare-bones domestic low-cast terminal (serving Tiger-Air, etc) might lack some of the beauty of other terminals you've seen across the world, but it still has a McDonald's -- the SkyBus will get you into the city quickly and efficiently.
No waiting at all :D It's kinda like no one is flying atm?!
There were a lot of queues, BUT they were handled really quickly, and the stuff was friendly.
Not what you d expect of a major city like Melbourne, but it does the job. The immigration queues were horrendous, took me more than an hour to pass through. Transport options to CBD are two - either the disgracefully overpriced SkyBus, or a ridiculously expensive Uber. Other than that, it s a mediocre airport.
New upgrades going well. Visit the website to stay on top of changes & updates, especially for parking and drop off pickup
Typically hopeless, inept, rude Melbourne Airport.
Apparently the apron staff musn t be inconvenienced by having to move our Emirates A380 later in the day - so rather than an airbridge we parked in a remote apron (and not for the first time either...)then froze waiting for the bus - while being barked at by rude officious dnata staff a with zero care or skills.
Bus took 1/2 hour to drive a few 100 meters as the bay was taken up by another bus with a driver in no apparent hurry to go back to the plane to pick up more hapless passengers.
And of course as you shuffle through woefully inadequate immigration the typical institutionalized intimidation from the jackbooted BORDERFORCE! staff just helped to cement the experience.
This airport is just a shambles and an embarrassing introduction to the city it purports to serve.
Disorganised under staff and some are very rude need people skills.
T4 jetstar
not many seats to sleep and rest
but floor not to dirty and safe in the midnight
The recent renovations are very welcome, if long overdue - Domestic finally has a decent food court. Transport to and from is woeful - there's a packed bus that takes way too long to get in to the city or you can catch a cab for $50-$60. It's farcical that one of Australia's largest cities doesn't have a rail link to its international airport.
Hygiene and staff behaviour at this airport is appalling. The airport sinks of poop every single time! The staff are rude and must be the most unhappy employees in Melbourne. Now let me focus on the Melbourne staff of Malaysian Airlines. They are the worst! Never prepared and rude. They also hold prejudice and question passengers with South Asian appearance about their presence in the business class sections despite having purchased business class tickets. As far the new self check-in kiosks are concerned, they are faulty and a waste of tax payers money. Instead more competent staff could be hired.
Quiet as now in covid - reno is ok but a rail link is desperately needed. Even some third world countries have better airports
Don't get me wrong, I like this airport, it has great facilities and nice cafe's to chill at before getting your plane..but, The staff are not the best. They have a very important job working at the airport so they should just try to be nice...other than that the airport is fine.
Like the rest of Melbourne, was impressed with the airport and how its laid out.
Nice airport must be very careful about the foods you have with you. As well for alcohol. There is a limit of one bottle only.
Easily Australia's WORST airport, and here's why:
> In 2019 there remains inadequate transport options (no train!) which leads to very heavy traffic to and from the airport
> The security checks are routinely horrendously long! Doesn't happen so often at Sydney airport
> Lack of food options. Again, compared to Australia's other airports, Melbourne is lacking in food options.
All of the above points are HUGELY ironic. Why? Because Melbourne itself is an AMAZING city with arguably Australia's best transport and food options! So why, I ask, is it's airport so shambolic?!
Loved the airport! One of the major airport in Australia, with lots of facilities.A fantastically laid out airport.
The team of security guards while LEAVING Melbourne are so funny and friendly. Made for a fantastic experience. On arrival I found security to be incredibly power-driven and rude.
I only ever travel internationally, so I will stick to what I know.
As far as the International terminal is concerned, Melbourne Airport Depatures is nice enough inside, once past the obligatory Security and Immigration control points it's the filled with generic Duty Free, Bookshops, Bars, Cafes, fast food chains and Australiana stores.
Nothing particularly special. Although there was once a shop selling plastic Uluru (Ayers Rock) snow globes!
It can be a fair hike to the departure gates, and there are essentially no moving-pavements/travelators to help you along.
Not great if your partially disabled. If you are, it's the standard case of picking you up and dumping you at the gate.
International Arrivals experience on the other hand is best described as just Unpleasant. Think narrow, crowded Hallways leading through a generic duty-free shop, and onto a crowded genetic Immigration control, another hallway followed by a most chaotic and unappealing baggage collection area.
Absolute shocker. Massive lines. ... not exactly welcoming!! Definitely the longest waits of any international airport I've ever experienced.
Best airport on the planet. Technically advanced and superb customer service. Very prompt staff.Round the clock security checks. Good toilets all through out the airport. Very sound help desks. Professionalism at its real best. Definitely one of the best airports in the world.
One of the worst airports I have ever been to. Uncomfortable, bad/no WiFi, old and far from City. Shame for one of the most beautiful cities I have ever visited.
It's clean.. Like most airports,, plenty of shopping available..!!
I m tired of walking into toilets at Melbourne Airport and been overwhelmed with disgusting odours. The lack of proper ventilation is not acceptable. If you spent a fraction of the money you budget on retail on appropriate toilet ventilation this wouldn t be a problem.
The morning mess trying to drive up the ramp to drop off passengers should never have occurred had this airport been actually designed properly. Pedestrian traffic from the car parks opposite should never have to cross any roads at all to get to the terminal. Poor thought throughout, spend your retail budget on overhead pedestrian crossings, not pathetic lollipop people.
Bad experience with some airport crew and customs, treat foreign passangers with rude and insulting attitudes. It was definitely the lowest point of our trip. Besides, there is limited choices of restaurants. The whole boarding process was unpleasant.
Very hard to find Gluten free food in the domestic terminals. Not good enough for this day and age.
Queues, queues and more queues. International arrivals area is shocking. Put some more bloody staff on! Have had better airport experience in third world countries.
airport restaurants and shops are cool. the security people are so rude though! and i wish airport parking wasn't so expensive!
Worst major international airport I have ever been to.
The bridges from our A380 broke down leaving us on the plane for ages.
The 'free for all' at the passport counter is a joke and its positioning horrendous when at the very rear is a duty free shop?!
Then we have unbelievable rude border security staff - unionised I can only assume.
Not enough quality eateries when departing. Food was shocking.
No trains to the city.
What exactly are the positives to this airport way outside of Melbourne on a toll road?
The airport is great but needs to lacks some shops and restaurants. For Jetstar Passengers you have to take a 10 minute walk to the Jetstar Terminal. It's also kinda a maze if trying to get in to return a rental car which is situated next to the short term parking entrance which can get confusing. Other then that a great experience.
Everything will be neat. I had a hard time because I wasn't caught in Uber at the beginning. Uber boarding station is a little farther away, so I have to walk a little while looking at the sign. Korean taxis are sticking and soliciting, but they are much more expensive than Uber, so be careful not to overdo it.
A lot of Skybus rides, but if you go to the center of Melbourne and have more than one, it is very expensive, so sign up for Uber or a similar app and use it. Most of the first use coupons are also provided. If you purchase and use a data sim, it may be annoying to authenticate with the sim phone number or re-verify with your sim;
Uncomplicated and everything easy to find. Security check very professional
Customs was great, it's only thing good about this airport at the moment. Lots of construction being carried out at the moment so give yourself some extra time for domestic to international transfers.
Witnessed a supervisor yelling at his junior right after I got off the plane. Not welcoming at all. Staff's not very helpful when you ask for directions. Please improve on your customer service skills. It's embarrassing for us Melbournians.
Bought food and drink from Go Convinence realised they charged me an 18c surcharge when I queried staff the lady said because you tapped your card I explained no I didn t I used a normal swipe eftpos card I was told oh well we can t refund you. Be careful when buying from this store.
Melbourne airport is one of the best airport in australia . They had almost everything. Many restaurants, many cafes, and shop for shopping in here
Fair but not very busy compare to other airports in the world
In the western world I would say Melbourne Airport is one of the worst.
Things which annoy me the most :
1. Paying for trolleys.
2. Touting by hire car drivers as soon as you leave terminal.( Specially qantas T1)
3. Car parking is very far and very expensive.
4. Disabled access to taxis from T4( long walk ).
5. Just two lanes to departures( long traffic queue every time we travel )
6. Picking up family from airport? In pickup lane the pedestrians never stop, they need pedestrian lights to ease traffic.
7. After collecting bags from international arrivals, it takes a minimum of 30 mins to exit due to poor exit gate locations. They need more staff more gates to exit.
First impression/experience so bad from the parking staff at the departure drop off. Staff are so rude and do not know how to communicate. Zero customer service..
One of my favorite airport, never faced any issues
Clean airport
Tired international and domestic airport which needs a major refurbishment or rebuilding.
