She was professional , compassionate , kind and she truly made the difference
All the nurses and desk employees also seemed to really care and to enjoy working there
Overall an outstanding experience in a highly professional environment
Bravo!

The waiting room smells of urine. The emergency room smells of urine. The wait time is longer than the average workday. The nurses openly make fun of their patients in front of other patients (HIPPA violation ). The only saving grace is the doctors are thorough. I would not recommend to a loved one.

I experienced sloppy systems, very poor communication, incompetent staff, and a complete waste of time and resources during my father's stay. It was crystal clear that no one cares unless you're literally dying in this place.

I delivered my son at Washington Hospital Center on 8/18/17, Tiyachae was my nurse and she was AMAZING!!! so sweet and caring especially dealing with someone in labor, she came so quick any time i paged! She was able to keep me calm despite my annoying family. She made all of us comfortable the entire 32 hours I was in labor(the part that was her shift) & Megan( in labor and delivery) came in after and was AWESOME! After my labor she made me comfortable although no rooms were available on the maternity side she constantly checked on me until I was able to transfer. The transition was smooth and easy, Megan on the maternity side helped me and made sure i was able to get back and forth to the NICU to see my son as well as help with my recovery

I gave birth to my third child here in early 2017. I had been in labor and it progressed very quickly in the car to the point that my water broke. I was taken directly to Labor & Delivery and she was born without any problems 20 minutes later.

The doctors and nurses were amazing! I and my baby were taken care of in comfort while any and all of our needs were met.

I highly recommend them.

Doctors and surgeons are very good. However the care in the hospital rooms has a lot to be desired. Some of the nurses are mean, have no bedside manner of any sort, and no respect to the patient. Fortunately, it is not all of them. I have seen some of the international hospitals/clinics in South Africa or Mauritius, and this hospital has a lot to learn from those countries in terms of quality of care, infrastructure and maintenance (and at a lesser cost).

I cannot find the words to describe my/our experience at the Irving St location. My dear nephew was kept on life support until donor recipients and their surgeons could be located and procedures arranged. He was tenderly cared for and monitored. They arranged for snacks and for refreshments. They inquired about him, wanting to know a little about him. To the staff in 3G, he was a vital human being. The staff from WRTC was tremendously thoughtful and kind. I shall never forget the compassion and love all parties bestowed on my nephew and on his parents.

Horrific. Decided to see and ENT thinking I might have had an ear infection and was about to go on a long trip. Very difficult to get there (forget sidewalks) and a 45 minute wait. Because the doctor's office is in the hospital, you have to sign a document saying you are aware there are additional hospital charges, but of course no one knows how much. So, expect to pay an additional $200 just for an office visit. And, even if you pay your bills immediately, expect to be hounded by debt collectors - subtracting numerous hours from my life. But, hey, during the 15 consultation ($450) I was informed I was fine.

I came to this facility for a Cardiac Catheterization. They found 4 blockages that stents would not repair. I returned for Quadruple bypass surgery and stayed an additional four days. The nursing staff was great. Got tired of the bed and the poor food served quickly. But they took very good care of me and I wouldn't hesitate returning if necessary.

The care I received was excellent however I found navigating the campus and finding patient parking unusually hard for a medical campus. At one point I saw a big sign that said patient parking pulled in and was told it was VA parking and I was going to be fined 275 dollars. I did find learning, make it to the office and received excellent care.

I was a patient there 3-27-2019 thru 4-01-2019 and I have nothing but praise for their entire staff of doctors, techs, nurses and dietary personnel. Everybody I came in contact with greeted me with a smile and very patient and attentive to my questions and needs/wants. They really kept me calm during this difficult experience I was going through. Some I would I would give a little more thanks to because I dealt with them more but if Medstar looked at my chart for everyone who attended to me they know who they are. I give the employees and hospital a big THANK YOU. Just wish I could do more.

In 2017 I've given birth here in an Unsanitary room they placed me in. Unfortunately there were not enough rooms available or tools for my delivery. Sadly I had to scream for help just to get a nurses attention while my baby started his arrival. I waited a day and night without a room with my baby. Finally when we got a room it was time for us to be discharged and I feel like my insurance has been over charged for one night for the room. I've had other experiences here and find it best not to keep getting injuries and wait until I can have a midwife safely deliever my babies in my own home.

2014 Saturday July 26th. My Wife was brought here to the ER over 12 hours ago with chest pains. It's 3:19 am Sunday now she's getting discharged.

I had to call the WHC on the phone from her ER bed, approx 1:15am Sunday morning, just to get a doctor to give pain meds for her chest pains before they tried to discharge her.

She is a heart attack survivor. She was brought in from work by ambulance by 2 pm Saturday. Four hours after that I had to phone the nurses station to help her go to the bathroom because the call button was broken. She wet her self. Nobody drew blood until after I got there; BLOOD DRAWS FOR CARDIAC PATIENTS WITH CHEST PAINS SHOULD BE WITHIN 15 MINUTES APON ARRIVAL. I want to thank the incoming night shift for fixing the situation.

Emergency Department hit or miss, can take 4+ hours to get seen, or 45 minutes.

Nursing staff very nice, but check-in and admin staff less so.

Probably better off going to Sibley or Georgetown (also Medstar), but definitely better than GW ER.

Bleed to death on the street before you go here. My wife was here for 5 hours and was not seen! The staff was rude and did not care to give her an idea when she would be seen. But the many, many criminals that came in handcuffs were seen! The place was filthy and didn't seem to prioritize patient urgency properly. And this was supposed to be one of the BETTER hospitals in Washington. A complete joke! This place should be shut down!! And my wife feared for her safety in that the incompency of the staff! A pathetic excuse for emergency care. They really need a vast study of the procedures in the emergency room!! I can't say enough how poor this "emergency" room is!!!!!

Worst hospital EVAH! Really deserves 0 stars. This place is filthy and falling apart. Staff borders on incompetence. A procedure the Dr ordered was not done and the nurse argued with my wife that it was not necessary. Almost gave my wife a medication she's allergic to (ignoring the info on the red bracelet on her). Meals weren't delivered. I was told incorrect visiting hours. Woman in same room, who is blind, was left outside x-ray on a bed for hours. Avoid at all costs!!!!

My wife was admitted at the emergency room she had broken her ankle in three places and she would need surgery. They told us that she would need two surgeries to repair her injured ankle and she would have to go under general anesthesia. Needless to say my wife did not feel comfortable with there assessment. We decided to go to another hospital and very thankful we did. My wife needed just one surgery with local anesthesia and she be will released 2 hrs out patient afterward. My problem is that there willing to cut my wife foot like a fish for no reason. Why?. I need answers from someone to bring clarity. I am very disappointed in what could have transpired. It should never be about money, the patient should come first.SMH

If I could give this hospital less than 1 star, I ...

If I could give this hospital less than 1 star, I would. I work internationally, often in rural and remote locations, and I have NEVER been to a hospital as unhygienic than this one. I went for a simple new patient appointment to see a PCP on a day I wasn't feeling well anyway. I thought, great! Perfect timing. I live in the NE sector of DC, and the only way I could get to the hospital was by taking a $15 Lyft ride ($30 RT). Upon arrival, I was given a sticker with the Suite number which consisted of two number/letter combinations. Utterly confused, I followed the receptionist's directions as far as I could, before I was intercepted by someone who worked at the hospital and was clearly used to seeing lost people. It took 4 PEOPLE to get me to the clinic. Once I arrived, I found it was under construction. The "automatic" wheelchair "accessible" double door was broken, and although I am a strong 30-something, I had difficulty opening the door myself. I couldn't imagine how the very fragile patients in the waiting room had opened the door. I waited for a decently short time and was smiled at by the receptionist (hence 1 star), and then was led to the "triage room", which was nothing more than a large closet with oxygen tanks and old equipment from the 1960s that I assumed were just being stored, until the nurse started using them to take my vitals! Everything was covered in dust and grime. I couldn't believe my eyes. I was then transferred into a clinic room, and walked over a DEAD COCKROACH on the floor. Midway through my examination by the resident, the door opened (NO KNOCK) and a maintenance person came in to take out the garbage. The resident picked up the garbage can with her bare hands to give it to him, and did not wash them afterwards. She couldn't have washed her hands afterwards, though, because there was no sink, running water, soap, disinfectant. There wasn't even a kleenex. I was feeling so uncomfortable and unsafe, that after waiting for 20min for the Attending to see me, I left. $15 Lyft ride return. I will NEVER go to this hospital again, if I can help it. I was utterly horrified by the unsanitary conditions, and the bureaucratic nature of care. I felt terrible for the truly ill patients I saw there, and if I could, I would have swept each of those patients up with me and taken them elsewhere. No one deserves health care like this. I'm shocked to find this dismal facility in the capitol of our country.

I was flown here through medivac due to heart failure at 28 after suffering a 2nd trimester loss. From the moment I left my first hospital, the male nurses were super nice and took good care of me. (Good looking as well which helps at least for me)..once I got here I was in my room within a couple minutes and about 4-5 nurses were there to get me cleaned up, in bed and all of my lines in ASAP. My nurse Kelsey made this situation so much bearable. She even got me a gift, card, chocolates. Literally the best and so sweet! Also the really good looking doctors didn't make me suffer eating hospital food all day. Dr. Elliot and Dr. Shah both ordered me Panera bread, so generous of them. It really cheered me up. All of the staff are very knowledgeable and I trust them with my life. Thank you so much everyone and I think i found my new hospital for any other medical concerns.

I have been trying to get an appointment for over a week and a half, no one calls me back. I've spoken to a live person and have emailed. It's not insurance or doctors that are the problem with health care, it's getting the appointment. I am now in pain and will have to go to the ER instead of being seen over a week and a half ago. Negligent at this point.

I've had great experiences with the hospital before Medstar took over. The same doctors are there they are good but Medstar in itself is crappy. I pray the nurses rise above this company and not let their horrible company make them less employee's. It's not a bad hospital however the staff is rude some of them need to be reminded where they are and what profession they are apart of. If they can't then FIRE THEM IMMEDIATELY i'm sure plenty of people complained about nurses being un-kind yet they still have a job I know there's probably a shortage or it's hard to train other nurses and whatnot but you really should start trying to root out the weeds and take the chance on a more friendly nurturing staff. It's crucial to the healing and recovery of patients.

go to DOCTORS COMMUNITY HOSPITAL if you haven't been to Washington Hospital Center or if you have a programmed doctor at Washington hospital center stick with them if you feel led. may favor be with you as you go wherever you do.

People should not have to pay for parking to go to a hospital that's extremely greedy. I worked in CMC hosptials in NC and they don't charge for parking for customers people already have enough hard time paying for the cost of treatment to pay for parking. Try to have a little compassion that's what's lacking I know you don't get what you should from insurance companies but customer service goes a long way.

Don't go here if you're having a baby. The rooms are not very nice and the whole hospital is very disorganized. I'd submitted my info (insurance/contact info) ahead of time and they didn't have any of it. I was a scheduled induction and they didn't know I was coming. But most aggravating, they didn't submit the paperwork for our baby to get a birth certificate or a social security number (even though we have copies that we filled it out). The only good thing was the nurses - all of our nurses were really good.

NIGHTMARE to deal with. Every department I've spoken with has nasty personnel who immediately try to "pass the buck" the second they answer the phone and don't even let you get out what you need or are calling about. Each department transfers you to another, who transfers you back to the department you just got transferred from. Medical Records department uses a 3rd party processing service who doesn't process "STAT" requests appropriately and mails them several days later instead of faxing/emailing them immediately in emergency situations.

I actually called the inspector general office today i actually have nurses on recording swearing at patients threating to restrain people i also called to report my wife having to wait over 27 hours for a bed. This place needs to be investigated. I also work for medicare so when i get to the office tomorrow i am going to do the nessercy paperwork to start an investigation against this place from what i have seen and what i have recorded people human rights where violated by these staff. Plus there was alot of mistreatment toward patients very sad i am going to seek justice for these people who where mistreated i actually was able to get there names and addresses. This hospital needs to have a come to Jesus meeting with the emergency room staff on the way they treat people. Very very sad. Actually i am going to talk to the patient advocate to see what they have to say about this i have been advised not to turn over the recording because this will help my case once i retain a lawyer on how my wife was also treated and spoken to good thing for cellphone this place will be on the news promise everyone that.

I was referred to the rheumatology department by my primary care physician, also within MedStar. When I called to make any appointment, they were extremely rude and required me to call my primary care physician to send over information that they already had in the system. I called my primary care physician who called the rheumatology department and told them my records were already in the system.

This place has the infrastructure to operate as one of the best. Unfortunately, the attitude, the procedures, and the treatment are not even close to the 19th century. It only takes three hours to register and they do not believe that there are more than thirty people, and do not even imagine how much to see a doctor. If you ask for information they give you the wrong one, and don't even ask how long they are going to take because at that moment everything gets stuck in time ...... They walk around making them busy to see them laughing and gossiping. A human being can mummify in the waiting room and nobody does anything. I do not want to be rude but the truth is that nobody cares about the pain of others. This hospital is embarrassing. I heard a woman left and for more than five hours nobody arrived Here people can die and nobody cares finally after five hours I left and with a ticket for having talked to the nurse alone

The lady in clinic registration is the nastiest, rudest, horrible person that I have come across. She speaks to people like trash. Everytime we co.e she gets worst and worst. I am a RN of 29 years now a director. I would never employ someone with that attitude. I don't know if she is a miserable long time employee or not, but she needs a job with no human interaction. Who complains and talks about a patient causing you to have to do more work to a co worker, and the patient is standing there listening. She told an elderly patient to step back away fro. Her and sit down until she finishes her phone call. I know my husband needed that appointment bad so I just ignored her rants. I will be to happy not to see her agai n. Please let this appointment go well. If I could have rated a zero but you can't. She is an older lady very short brown reddish hair. She is always at the clinic registration desk. Avoid if you can.

I honestly can t say enough great things about this hospital. The cleanliness, knowledge, friendliness of all the staff was incredible. I had the pleasure of having Nina and Mary take care of me on the Orthopedic floor. I ve met some pretty wonderful nurses, but can honestly say that they were the BEST. They are the definition of what a nurse should be, and MedStar should be honored to have both of them as apart of their team. Doctor Golden was my surgeon and was so friendly and knowledge. Everything about this hospital put me at ease. Thank you again MedStar! You guys have such a wonderful team and I am so happy that I was able to be cared for by your ER, surgeons, doctors, nurses, nurses assistance, case workers, transportation, PT and OT team!

This place is a hot mess. I've gotten several referrals from my doctor for care here and it's been terrible everytime. The phone numbers given/listed often don't lead to the correct person; trying to navigate the phone system is pointless. I've resorted to finding my own specialists and then having my doctor write referrals for them instead.

Sat here in the ER for two hours, I was on the phone with family telling them they seem like they not doing no work and one of the employees yelled out we are working and told the police to escort me out the back.
They are rude and disrespectful. And the back was dirty.
Everyone standing around talking but no work was being done...
The ER is nothing like the hospital.... So I didn't get seen, I left.

ATTENTION MEDSTAR!

ATTENTION MEDSTAR!
I have had great experiences with National rehabilitation at Medstar Hospital. I may be assuming, but they seem to have lost many good employees. The actual physical therapy department does not make appointments. You have to go thru the hospitals appointment phone line. Until now, no problem. Recently, I have had many problems with the appointment center communicating with the physical therapy dept, or the patients. Now, they don't call back when you leave a message. I leaves the physical therapists, everyone in the dept, in a bad position, plus, it makes future appts for patients to continue their therapy due to the attendance policy. The appoinent line does not keep their word, or now care to do their job. I have been very impressed with the hospital, how empathetic, and helpful they have been. I sincerely hope Medstar will strive to hire employees that are trained well, and feel valued enough to want to continue to be apart of their team. I would be disappointed to have to go somewhere else.

My grandmother was sent to this hospital the day after her and my grandfather celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary..while my grandmother was admitted she had to share a room and my grandfather was kicked out. All he wanted to do was be by her side. Not only was he kicked out of his room he was kicked out of the lounge/waiting area. He had to sleep in his car overnight... why wasn't he accommodated?!!??!! The hospital I work at has a 24 hour visiting policy and EVERY room is private.

I hate coming here. The doctors and the staff that I've met face to face are wonderful, but it's such a pain getting in and out. It's a bit of a maze once on the campus, and there are no directions on the website. To make matters worse, people on the phone cannot give directions, even once you are on the campus. The hospital is horribly understaffed, and sometimes it takes weeks to finally get someone on the phone to book an appointment (I'm not a new patient, and online appointments are not yet available). It doesn't help that the hospital center is in the middle of the city, not within walking distance of a Metro station. I have to come here because my neurologist sees patients only at this location, but after trying to get MRIs and EMGs done here, I hate hate hate this place.

I moved to DC and was looking for a PCP and liked the idea that it was close to work and my home. I saw a Resident and her attending, which doesn't bother me as I too work at a teaching hospital. Biggest complaint is billing.

I am trying to be pro-active about my health and I was under the impression that annual physicals are considered preventative health and covered 100%. Needless to say, it surprised me when I received my first bill. I paid it because $16.11 wasn't worth my fuss. Now, I received another bill for over $50, which I intend to pay, but I've learned my mistake and hope others learn from mine as well.

Medstar charges for the facility and the physicians also charge you, despite the affiliation. As for preventative health coverage, they don't considered the initial visit an annual preventative health exam. It seems backwards to charge people "initial" visits that do not fall under preventative health because there are multiple places in the DMV area that can provide the same services (what incentive do I have to come here). Call it what you may, the services I received should be considered preventative health under the Health Care Reform.

Some one hit me in a car accident in DC and i was taken by an ambulance in to the emergency room when i got in i was in pain and they to me to go to the front and register because one they didn't care two they where two lazy the info from the ambulance person which they already have all the info they need i came in 5 pm and i waited and waited i was in pain all the time believe when i say i saw the doctor at around 3AM i waited 10H before i saw the doctor i say some patients living the ER because they gave up that they wouldn't be taken care of it was a very sad seen people were waiting for hours and hours i felt so bad for all the people that was there i could believe they call them self a hospital it is the most uncaring place ever i feel so bad for the people that live in that area.I live in VA and if you go in the emergence room you are in and out within 1h and the care they provide for you is excellent you will see the doctor with in 10 min they need to come to VA and learn some. Who ever is running that " hospitals" has to get fired or need to to make a big change. I don't do reviews but i really care about the people i was very sadden by what i saw i am writing this in the hope that they well make a change and they need to give each person that comes to the hospital a review paper so they can see how the staff is doing and area that they need to improve on. Finally i want to give the Doctor a credit she saw i long i waited and felt very bad and apologize to me and she was very nice and caring thanks you Doctor for the apology i hope they give you a better team.

This hospital and it's amazing doctors, surgeons, and nurses saved my father's life with an emergency open heart surgery. I am nothing but grateful for all of the staff (especially Lowell Satler, Ammar Bafi, nurses Liz and John) and faculty (especially Linda Taylor) for their constant kindness, expertise, and helpfulness throughout this experience with my family. I will be forever indebted to them.

This was the worst hospital (E.R) experience ever....

This was the worst hospital (E.R) experience ever. We took a patient who has already been diagnosis with Cancer to the E.R at approximately midnight. It took them more than 5 hours to even see the patient. Crazy thing is we were no the only ones complaining. When we told the gentleman in the front desk whats going on, he said "everyone is sick too and we are very busy) - I still cant believe somebody in the medical profession - somebody who others are trusting their lives and health with can say that. Finally, around 7 am, the patient was called in. She was in so much pain and we asked the RN for some pain meds - she kept on dodging us for like 2 hours. She had the audacity to even change shifts and went home without helping us. When they removed her drip, she started bleeding and the band aid/bandage was all red. We asked her to change it and she comfortably said "I will change it when you guys are being discharged." We have the names of all these "professionals" and we shall be taking appropriate legal measures accordingly. We go to another hospital (wont name it) - Amazing.

One thing though, while in waiting area, i looked around me one word came to my mind. DIVERSITY!!!
