Welcome to McBurney Disability Resource Center, an office within the Division of Student Affairs at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. We strive to create a welcoming environment where all students can thrive regardless of their abilities. Our team works closely with students, faculty, and staff to design accessible environments that promote learning and growth.

We offer a wide range of services designed to meet the unique needs of each student. Our team provides individualized accommodations based on each student's disability-related needs. Some examples include:
- Alternative testing arrangements

In addition, we provide advocacy services for students who may encounter barriers in accessing academic or other university programs or activities due to their disability status.
Our Approach
At McBurney Disability Resource Center, we take a collaborative approach in working with our students. We believe that every student has unique strengths and challenges related to their disability status. Therefore, we work closely with each student on an individual basis to identify their specific needs and develop strategies for success.
We also partner with faculty members across campus to ensure that they have the resources they need to create accessible learning environments for all students. This includes providing training on how best practices in accessibility can be incorporated into course design.
Our Commitment
We are committed not only to meeting the immediate needs of our students but also empowering them for long-term success beyond graduation day. To this end, we offer a variety of programs designed specifically for our disabled community members:
Disability Advocacy & Action Network (DAAN): DAAN is a group made up entirely by people living with disabilities who come together regularly throughout the year as part of UW-Madison’s Multicultural Student Center (MSC) programming efforts.
Disability Pride Week: This annual event celebrates disabled culture through various events such as art exhibits featuring disabled artists’ work; keynote speakers discussing topics like intersectionality between race/ethnicity/gender identity/sexual orientation/disability status; workshops focused on self-care techniques like mindfulness meditation or yoga classes taught by instructors trained specifically in adaptive yoga techniques tailored towards those living w/ physical limitations due either congenital conditions or acquired injuries from accidents/sports injuries/etc.; social events like movie nights featuring films about people living w/ disabilities overcoming obstacles & achieving great things despite adversity.
Disability Mentoring Day: This program connects current UW-Madison undergraduate & graduate-level disabled college/university learners w/ professionals working in fields related directly or indirectly towards serving individuals living w/ disabilities (e.g., special education teachers; occupational therapists; speech-language pathologists). The goal is twofold: 1) expose these learners firsthand what it’s really like working within these fields so they can make informed decisions about whether pursuing careers therein would be right fit them personally/professionally; 2) provide networking opportunities between these two groups so both parties benefit from sharing knowledge/experiences/resources/etc..
