McArthur Homes Review

Such a great experience with McArthur homes. This is my first time building a house and I always heard the horror stories that come along with this experience. But to be 100% honest. I never had any issue come up with McArthur homes. Stephanie and Spencer and Julia were all amazing people to work with. They each helped us so much in designing our home. I would highly recommend this company. They have great employees and great service levels.

Worst home buying experience ever!!!! They have great floor plans and were really good until we signed the papers and put down our down payment. After that we struggled to get a hold of our contact over at McArthur. We would leave messages and never get a reply. They were late on every deadline they gave us and I still don't know if it would have gotten finished if we constantly weren't calling to find out what the hold up was on every deadline they missed. I understand that McArthur Homes aren't a custom home builder, but I do expect that the promises they make they should keep. I shouldn't have to fight with them only to get told there is nothing they can do to fulfill a promise that was given.

DO NOT BUY A HOME FROM MCARTHUR HOMES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We love our McArthur home! We originally chose to build with them because they had the best floor plan to meet our needs. And while we do LOVE the floor plan, the people at McArthur are the best reason to build with them! At every step of the way, there was someone knowledgeable and friendly to guide us through the process. Any hiccups we noticed along the way were minor and fixed within a day of us noticing and pointing it out. The construction teams were well-coordinated and moved impressively quickly - every time we drove out to check on the progress of our home something had changed! (And we were there several times a week throughout the entire process). Shout-out to Lynsie, Jason, Julia, and West for all going above and beyond to make our first home building experience a great one!

We were very pleased by the quality of everything in our home and the extras that we weren't expecting like programmable thermostats and child-friendly electrical outlets. The customer service is also top-notch. We worked with Paige, who was very responsive and accommodating with our frequent questions and requests.

Working with McArthur to build our home was smooth from start to finish. Julia in the design center helped me make my design dreams come true. Jeff and Paige we re friendly and so helpful in answering all our questions. We love our Del Rio!

As first time buyers we were pretty nervous about the whole process. McArthur Homes made it as simple as I think it could have been. The only time we felt overwhelmed was when we went through the design studio and had too many choices on colors, flooring, countertops, etc

Overall I highly recommend McArthur Homes and would do it again.

I'll try to keep this updated as we finish moving and selling in, but if I forget to, that's probably a positive sign :)

This was our first time purchasing/building a home. We loved the selection we had to pick from at the design center. Our home turned out almost exactly as we imagined it. All the staff was super nice and willing to help whenever they can. They even put up with all my text messages of stupid questions. There were a few bumps we ran into while building but I'm sure that would be the same with any place. Overall had a great experience.

I went in to look at some townhomes with my wife, and the agents were great, they knew their stuff, and were very helpful. Good price, well built, and very customizable.

We just moved into our new McArthur home and we are so pleased! The process was so smooth and easy! Everyone has been very open and communicative with us, the design options were great and and they really do build a quality home! I had friends build with other builders at the same time at us and they have had really horrible experiences, and I honestly forgot that building a home could be stressful because McArthur made it so easy!

McArthur Homes is a fantastic company! Having them build my town home was a very positive experience. They pay attention to detail and build high quality homes. Julia was amazing to work with in picking everything out from bathroom fixtures to paint to flooring, etc. Paige and Jeff were amazing from the day I signed the papers. Paige would send emails weekly with update pictures and was available for any questions during the process. I had a major concern that was addressed by one of the owners who was very kind and responded promptly. When my cabinets were installed, there was an error on one of the cabinets. I brought it to the attention of Paige and by the next day, the correct cabinet had been installed. New home owners are given a 3-ring binder with all the information you could ever need. If I had a question, I would refer to the binder and 9 out of 10 times, the answer would be there. The company runs very efficiently and is very organized, which makes home building so less stressful for the customer. I am so impressed that McArthur Homes has their own 1-year warranty department instead of having another company take care of the warranty. Dean is the contact person for warranties and responds promptly to any issues that arise. I have only had a few minor issues with the home since I moved in. But thanks to Dean, and the contact numbers I was given for emergencies, things were taken care of in a very timely manner. The sub-contractors that built the home, under the direction of McArthur Homes, are the ones who take care of warranty issues, and do so in a prompt and professional manner. Because the same contractors who built the home are used for warranty issues, they know how the home was built and know exactly how to fix a problem. On the day I received the keys, both the head contractor and one of the owners were there to greet me and welcome me to my new home. Paige and Jeff sent a house-warming gift. If I ever choose to build a new home again, I would ONLY use McArthur Homes!

Our family had an excellent building experience with McArthur Homes! Each step of the process went smoothly because of their knowledgeable staff. We loved picking out specific colors and appliances in their beautiful design center. Our home was finished before the estimated date and we are thrilled with the finished product. We would definitely recommend building with them to everyone we know.

I recently had two buyers purchase McArthur Homes and Jason Shumway was fantastic to work with. As a Real Estate Agent, I appreciated Jason's quick communication and attention to detail as we worked on this transaction together. Their floor plans are wonderful their finish work is just not acceptable. They postponed our move in several times. One just days before move in. I have tried to hang shelves on multiple walls that are bowed so badly the shelf doesn t even touch the wall on both ends (like a teeter totter). We were promised a flat side yard when we picked our lot and after we moved in they realized they had to put a drain there so it s just a big ditch. They probably aren t the worst but they are certainly not the best.

I told Dean in our walk through BEFORE we closed that I had an issue with a trip hazard between my driveway and sidewalk. It has been uneven since day 1 of the driveway being poured. It is a hazard and an eye sore. No one likes concrete issues, and to have one before we even paid for the home is pathetic. I thought when we brought it up before closing it would be taken care of. Almost 1 year later, several emails later, it is still there and it is getting worse. I should have never closed until the issue was fixed that I brought up before closing. I had the superintendent's word, Chet, that he would fix it. I guess now it is a waiting game to see if Mcarthur will make right.

Had a chance to tour the model. Loved the open floor plans! Very comfortable layout with lots of light!

Where to start. We've been our townhome for three years. From the beginning there have been issues resulting from shoddy and rushed workmanship. The bathtub in our master was installed at an outward slant, causing any and all water that runs down the inside of the shower to constantly drip out resulting in water damage on our floor /baseboards. We tried to prevent this by caulking around it, bc they didn't caulk the baseboards anywhere. When the carpet was installed ,they left tacks on the stairs that cut my three year olds hand open. When we asked them to fix it, they told us to "fix it ourselves". When they poured the walkway and driveway, it rained, causing the cement to be compromised. They came back a year later to seal it, but it's began spalling regardless. After contacting them about this, they said it's been three years, and not covered by warranty. Which is true, but they've already previously acknowledged their screw up, and essentially put a band aid on it and washed their hands of it. Overall, a horrible experience. When you build with McArthur, you're not getting a long term quality house.

I purchased a new build from them that was already almost complete at the time I went under contract. I was only able to choose a limited amount of design services, because most were done.
Every person I worked with along the way was beyond friendly and helpful! My home actually appraised for more than my purchase price (SCORE for me!), and the attention to detail is phenomenal. When I went to my final walk-through, the gentleman I worked with had already noticed several things to fix that I don't think I would have noticed on my own. Special shout-out to Paige, in sales, who responded to all my many emails about all the questions at all hours of the day and night! I would use McArthur Homes again and again. No nightmare build stories here!

McArthur Homes was great to work with. We had very few issues and when the issues arose, they fixed them promptly. I highly recommend McArthur Homes.

They did an amazing job:) i would definitely recommend building a home with them. Everything was done in the time frame they gave us. I really like my construction manager. I think his name is Collin ;) he super cute btw.. and Julie the design girl was so fun to work with so nice and friendly. The owners of the company are so nice and caring.

We just built our second home with McArthur homes and I would recommend them to anyone. Their floor plans are smart and modern and flexible and every single person we worked with along the way couldn t have been more accommodating or fun. From the initial walk into the model home, to the customization, to handling the inevitable speed bumps that arise, they were understanding and friendly and helpful every step. We even got to move in six weeks earlier than originally anticipated and who can complain about that?! I know that every home builder will have someone who was dissatisfied, but in this case, it s not us. We have loved working with them and while I hope this is the last time we move, I d look for them again if we had to.

There were are few things in the beginning that was caused because of miscommunication, but thats part of being a first time home builder and understanding the process and making sure to ask all and any questions regarding your home. Always verify, never assume that something is included and you will be fine. McArthur was awesome and very professional and they made the process smooth. The building process was awesome and we were able to see everything from the bottom up.

Be careful with mcarthur. They will nickel and dime the hell out of you. They took $500 bucks from me and weren't willing to work with us on anything. DONT EVEN ASK FOR ANYTHING SPECIAL! They won't work with you. Beware.

McArthur Homes made our first home building experience amazing! Our first contact with McArthur Homes was with Jason Shumway. Jason made us feel so comfortable. He was eager to answer all of our millions of questions. Honestly if it werent for our first contact with Jason we probably would have waited to build.
The whole team at McArthur have impressed us with their knowledge of the building process and the enthusiasm they shared with us as we watched our home becoming a reality.

My wife and I had a great experience building with McArthur Homes. They had a perfect floor plan for us. We had great communication with them throughout the building process, and questions, comments or concerns were always addressed quickly. Construction was completed on time and we feel we got an excellent quality house. All the finish work looks great. We really love our home and we are so glad we chose McArthur Homes to build our home for us.

Everyone my husband and I worked with while building our home with McArthur homes was absolutely wonderful. Everyone was so nice and friendly and responsive to all of our questions and emails throughout the whole process, and Paige Anderson as especially wonderful. We are so in love with our home and couldn't be happier to have purchased with McArthur!

My wife and I own a townhome in Herriman that we built and moved into in December of 2017. I felt I needed to share our experience. The actual process of building was great. We worked with Jason, the preferred lender was great and overall we were very impressed with McArthur. Then the first time we wanted to use our A/C, it didn't work. It blew warm air in fact, McArthur scheduled the company who installed the unit to come out and fix it which seemingly they did. It worked all summer last year just fine. Now, this month, of course after the 1 year home warranty expired, as it started to get warm again, we turned on the AC for the first time a couple weeks ago and again, it's not working, blowing warm air again. I had 1st class Comfort Heating and Air come out and do a diagnosis and come to find out the "fix" from last year was nothing more than a band aid. In fact the installation of our unit was done so poorly that the service valves had burnt which caused the massive leak of coolant. At this point our only option will now be to replace the unit and coil which will be right around $4500. The whole point of us deciding to build with MacArthur was to avoid these types of issues as everything is nice and new and not have to deal with the types issues you would find in a pre-owned home, but now we have to pay $4500 out for a new AC unit in less than 2 years being in our home.

We absolutely love our house!!! Every time we walk in the door, we breathe a huge sigh and tell each other how happy we are that we built with McArthur. Not everything went 100% smoothly while building but 98% of it did and whenever we brought up an issue it was taken care of promptly and professionally. We have talked with multiple people at home improvement stores and various locations and they have all said the same thing, McArthur builds houses right and don t skip corners. Building with McArthur we have gotten quality at an affordable price. We would recommend them to anyone. From the Sales team to the construction manager they have been fantastic!

I could not be happier with my first home purchasing experience. The process was really easy and everyone was very helpful. My home was even finished a week ahead of time. Most importantly our home turned out great!

Wow I have had so many problems while building my house with McArthur Homes. I am building out in Herriman and it is a joke the way they treat home buyers the second they get their non-refundable down payment. I have had so many problems that I decided to contact the owner Dave McArthur. I was told by the owner that I have unrealistic expectations. It is extremely weird that the deadlines they give me are unrealistic expectations. They are weeks behind their deadlines with no excuse to why they are behind and their only response is that it is unrealistic expectations for me to expect them to meet their deadlines. Them telling me certain things would be done with my home and when they weren't I had unrealistic expectations for them to fulfill their end of the agreement and actually build the house they said they would build. WORST HOME BUILDERS EVER!!!!! DO NOT BUY A HOME FROM MCARTHUR HOMES!!!!!!

WORST HOME BUYING EXPERIENCE. They treat you like gold and tell you all the amazing things possible while you are checking things out. Once they get that NON-REFUNDABLE!!! deposit, good luck. I just purchased at Herriman Towne Center and I will never buy another MacArthur home! The finish work is spotty, they NICKEL AND DIME EVERYTHING!!!. They use the ABSOLUTE CHEAPEST material they can get their hands on. If they can eliminate something that isn't required by code, they will to save $20 on a $300k home. The carpet upgrades are more expensive than just going to a carpet store and buying it yourself.
They know you won't walk away once they get that check from you. So beware, because once they do. You are dead to them. You will only get, "well that is how it works". from them. Build Holmes, Garbett, or Edge.

We love the floor plan, and McArthur was great to work with throughout the process. We've been moved in now for over a month, and everything turned out just the way we had expected. The quality is excellent, and we moved in within a week of the date they quoted us. Would definitely recommend McArthur Homes to anyone.

We are in the beginning process of buying a town home through McArthur homes. Our town home is currently under construction. So far our sales agent, Spencer, has been nothing but professional.

I love McArthur homes! They are so helpful and really go above and beyond to answer questions and help you feel at ease with everything! We were working with another builder and about to close in a house but I was having so much anxiety about it all. It is worth losing my deposit to work with a builder I feel I can trust. We bought a house with McArthur 10 years ago and were sad when we had to move for work. I'm excited about the prospect about working with McArthur again!!

I just went through the model home at McArthur homes they are fabulous well-made detail oriented and the real estate agent there name Kira Anderson was very kind and passionate about her work and she was knowledgeable about all the questions that I had I would recommend them highly

We had a wonderful experience touring three different models. We were very impressed with the craftsmanship of the homes and the way the space was used. We have just purchased our third McArthur home. After living in and purchasing multiple homes in our married life, we decided that we wanted to downsize in preparation for our empty nest years. Our very first home we built was with McArthur. Then we purchased a pre-existing home that was a McArthur home. We knew that their homes were quality, as was our experience with them.

The floor plans they offer are practical, thoughtfully designed and utilize every nook and cranny.

Jeff , Julia, Chet and all of the crew of McArthur were great. Our concerns were always immediately addressed and the solutions were more than satisfactory. We even closed early, which was awesome!

After 14 moves and building multiple homes, we don't plan to build/move again. However, if we were, McArthur would be our first choice. They produce a quality product and truly care about their clients. Hands down, this was the simplest, most enjoyable experience with a builder that we have ever had.

We looked at several other builders before we came to McArthur. I wish I would have went to McArthur first. What stood out for me were several unique features of the home that other builders do not have. We were also quite pleased with the employee at the design center. She was very knowledgeable and accommodating. Overall we had an excellent experience working with McArthur. The neighborhood area McArthur selected to build in is also beautiful. We love our new home!

tl;dr Two stars because we're happy to finally be in our home and (hopefully) past dealing with McArthur; also the sales agent in our area was pleasant to work with. The negatives outweigh the positives, though, and I did not enjoy lining their pockets in gold. My advice: seriously look at other builders before deciding on McArthur.

McArthur would like you to believe there is something special about them and their homes; there isn't. The experience was worse than building with Holmes Homes (which should be telling considering the recent publicity Holmes has had). Why?

1. They were over a month late on the completion date. Okay, things happen; we understand. But once they knew the completion date was going to be missed, getting a new completion date was impossible, and the next dates given were missed also. This makes it incredibly difficult to plan around getting time off of work, oh, and the rate lock for your mortgage.

2. Our front yard has a severe slope, which we were (to a degree) aware we would need to deal with, fine. So, in an effort to work around this, we asked to keep some large boulders that were sitting on our lot. We were told that was not a problem, and that they would be sure to note that they were ours so others that were interested would not take them. With the understanding that we would have those, we made plans to use them in our landscaping to ease the slope in the front yard. We came to checkout the house a week or two later, and the boulders were gone. They'd been moved up the street and given to another customer, who happened to be a... squeaker wheel than us (there's a lesson in there somewhere). This is going to cost us a not-insignificant amount of money to have a landscaper acquire boulders and transport them to our lot.

3. We initiated the contract with their preferred lender (yes, not a direct McArthur employee, however, they are surely an agent for McArthur if we're being told, and are given perks, to use them) under the impression it would be beneficial for us. We shopped around and found the fees were higher with the preferred lender and decided to use a lender of our choice. We informed the preferred lender that we had chosen another company to work with and were immediately berated with messages from this agent. He was rude and very condescending, making sure (like in any bad break-up) to tell us we won't find anything like him and that we're making a huge mistake.

Need more reasons? Okay...

4. In their meetings, they like to spotlight hard/difficult conversations that their agents dealt with the past week... Well, my wife and I asked about the premium for the lot we wanted because it was higher than the rest that were available on the street. We were hoping to bring this in line with the rest since the lot wasn't all that much larger (at least, it didn't seem enough to justify the additional cost). Of course, being powerless in this situation, nothing happened. Found out this conversation was highlighted in their meeting (we're young-ish and naive, I promise this wasn't a difficult conversation). But we also asked about the estimated cost for lots behind ours (which are nearly double in size). We were told they estimate selling them for around a $40k-$60k premium. Okay, well, those were definitely out of the question. We moved forward with the lot we now have. Come to find out those lots are now selling for $5k-$6k premium. I won't say what we paid for ours, but it was significantly more. A drop from 40k-60k to 5k-6k cannot be attributed to a market fluctuation at this point in time. This is simply a case of us being worth more to them now than in the future. I think I have a sign on my back that says 'CHUMP', but I haven't found it yet.

I have more to say, but have run out of characters. Oh well.

Very organized and informed process all the way through. All of the individuals involved in the process were great to work with and very responsive to questions or issues. We're very happy with the final product.
Overall, a great building experience. Would recommend McArthur Homes without hesitation.

McArthur was wonderful to work with from beginning to end! We love our home, and they are always happy to answer questions and help whenever we call on them. If we were ever to build a house again, we would go with them in a heartbeat!

our mcarthur homes experience has been a great one. granted, this is our first time building a new home, everything that we've read oline on what to expect made us feel pretty prepared for any outcome.

we had been looking into the three builders in rushton meadows and really went with mcarthur homes because of jason. he was very patient and really went out of his way to answer our questions and let us know what'd it be like to build with them. he was there every step of the way.

in terms of the build, we were let in on every stage of the build. everything was explained thoroughly and really felt like nothing was made a secret. we always came around to check on how things were progressing and the materials they used. everything was sound and spot on in our minds. even at the final walkthrough, we had to REALLY make an effort in picking at things for them to touchup.

every deadline was met, and our house was even delivered to us a month ahead of schedule. you'd think that you would need to make sure things didn't get sloppy because of the fast times, but everything went great.

We had a very tight time crunch to get into a house before our baby was due and we lived out of town- we had a week to find a home. Luckily McArthur had a spec home that was just starting to frame and would be complete with plenty of time to settle in before the baby. Even though selections had already been made for the home, as a spec home, they allowed us to make and change all selections that weren't structural. They understood our time constraint and set us up with a last minute appointment in the design center with one of the executives. Everyone we worked with was awesome! Jason, Julia, West, Colin and Dean made a fabulous team together and worked to make sure we were able to pick out all of our selections in the design center on time. They were great with working with us on every aspect and extremely understanding. We've never built a house before and they made the process very easy. We also found a few things in the final inspection which needed to be fixed and they made sure they were fixed in a very timely manner. I would definitely recommend them to anyone and would build with them again!

Great floor plans but not great finish work. Several bowed walls, and uneven ceilings. I'm talking bowed to the extent that I'm not even able to hang shelves on the wall because both sides of the shelf don't touch the wall (it's like a teeter-totter). Poor quick work in the unfinished basement that we found will only cause more headache and money to get finished (especially in the plumbed bathroom, I'm talking about having to redo the plumbing they did). Very inefficient air conditioning unit which I feel runs way too much throughout the day and causes high energy bills and energy usage (we even try and keep it very conservative on the temperature during the hot summer). Air conditioning unit itself is also sinking in my backyard and causing strain and pressure on the line that goes into the house (we found to be a potential $5,000 fix if broken or damaged). I've had to twice now dig out under the unit itself and put rocks and wood to support it and stop from causing too much damage. I'm shocked a builder would not put an AC unit on stable ground. I get it, ground settles over the years, but when it comes to an AC unit, I'd think they would do better to make sure it was on solid ground so it wouldn't sink over time and cause damage and potential harm. In our particular floor plan the master bedroom is above the garage and the floor/ceiling between the garage and bedroom I don't think was insulated properly. It's very hot during the summers and very loud in the master bedroom if someone opens the garage or is loud in the garage. As a builder I'd be sure to put extra insulation, etc. between the floor and ceiling of the garage. It's technically an exterior wall. Also, pieces of the exterior rock from our home is beginning to fall off from the house.

Overall, not a great experience, but not the worst.

McCarthur homes has been unbelievable. We looked at many new and existing homes before we chose to build with McCarthur. They were highly recommended by our realtor who has worked in new construction for years. She was right...their craftsmanship was far above the competitors. Jason Shumway, the McCarthur rep has been so patient as we navigated the home building experience. He even showed up at our closing to help us celebrate the transition. Truly, one of the nicest guys! And Julia McCarthur, from the design center is so eager to make you feel at ease. I consider them both friends and now that we have been in our home for a couple months...I love running into them! West, the superintendent is quick to respond to any issues that may have come up. He was so careful with us at our 4-point walk-through. Then Dean, the Warranty Guy, so attentive. We never felt like we weren't being heard or cared for. We feel like everyone who has worked on our beautiful home has had our best interest at heart. Thank you McCarthur team!!

I have built a home with 2 different builders. The first was a good company to work with and I have no complaints. The second was McArthur, and I have to say they are a superb company to work with.

The selections process was smooth, well organized, and fun. They have a great showroom with great options and are committed to helping you understand the choices and have a good process to submit your own ideas if you want something outside of the standard choices. They are also very understanding about how important these decisions are for some people and give you all the assistance and attention you need to meet your selections deadlines.

The thing that impressed me the most is the fact that they've got the communication thing down. I was never in doubt about who I should contact about a particular issue and they were responsive and helpful each time I reached out with a question or concern.

We've just moved in recently and so far the warranty process has lived up to all the good service we received before we closed on the house and moved in.

If you're looking for a builder in the areas where they are building I can definitely recommend them to you.

Paige Anderson in the model home office makes you feel like her best friend every time you see her and responds to emails/questions SO quickly. Some of the rest of the team, however, could work on communication with the buyer and with other staff members. Some of the detail work could use improvement when finishing homes, but overall happy with our decision to build with McArthur.

We built a mcarthur home in south Jordan and love it, closed ahead of time, the warranty is spectacular and the service after closing is as outstanding as it were when building home process. If you are upgrading your selections make sure to take items I.e tile, carpet, granite to different areas of the design studio under different light unless your having fluorescent tube lights through out your entire house.

recently moved from Vegas with my son. Ive had a hard time finding a townhome with a yard, garage, basement.
When I found this MacArthur home in Herriman that had all I was looking for I was ecstatic.
I was told by Jeff and Paige that I coulnt buy a home until the next phase was released. Once released, they would send an email, and the first person there with a $250.00 check would get the first pick.

Fast forward 1 month. After planning my day nearly everyday, to be near the area in case the email came out. I had a with a check in my car, my mom, my realtor also had a check in preparation of the email.

Today, I get the email. Im ready, Im across the street at the park. I drove so fast to the office I nearly caused an accident. I rush in the office and I was told, I am too late.
Literally 2 minutes from the email coming out and people were camping out in the office with inside information.

I was mislead for one month. I waited for this day and was punched in the gut.

Just be honest with people and dont toy with their emotions. I will never do business with this company and would never recommend them to anyone.
