What the restaurant lacks in updated decor, they make up in the QUALITY of their food! While waiting by the entrance and old vintage bar, scores of seafood platters were being distributed to customers. What's impressive was that there was no fishy aroma in the air. Their seafood is superbly & exquisitely fresh! Everything from catfish, seafood gumbo, tail less breaded fried shrimp, oysters, seafood sampler platter enough for two to share, etc...is worth the wait. They also make great succulent steaks and sandwiches (Po Boy). They do not have an assortment of desserts but keep it very simple like their bread pudding. This place should not be overlooked but should be visited at least once if in town! They've established this restaurant in 1939 and it's still going strong! It can get very busy and wait times can vary from 15 to 45 min during the week; imagine the weekends! Bon appetit!

Good food and service, but for Atkins/Keto dieters, would decrease to 3 stars, as limited low carb choices. I had the grilled shrimp salad and it was very good with at least a dozen moderately sized grilled shrimp for $14.95, but it was way too big. Brought 2/3ds of it home. Hubby had the stuffed shrimp - 4 huge ones the size of small avocados with their stuffing, which came with salad and fries. He could only eat 2 of the shrimp. Others had the gumbo and loved it.A large plate of toasted and buttered baguette slices were included with all. DH and daughter loved the bread pudding and Son-in-Law loved the turtle pie (something like that - chocolate with caramel and chocolate chips, with a chocolate cookie crust). Prices and wait time weren't too bad considering it was Mardi Gras.

Worst food ever. The menu has been the same since 1950 and you couldn't find a fresh vegetable in the kitchen if you tried all day. We were served green beans straight from the can. I complained about it and the waiter even verified that indeed they are out of a can. This is inexcusable. Neighborhood restaurant have stepped up their game lately and are really doing great things in the kitchen including fresh veggies and delivered daily fish. Mandina's fish comes straight from the freezer. I think Mandina's just relies on a reputation of being on that corner so long and people just fall in there without even thinking. Really poor quality coming out of that kitchen.

Mandina s neighborhood restaurant, a staple here in the Big Easy. Our family has come here numerous times over the years/generations and Mandina s never disappoints. With family visiting from out-of-town we came for Sunday dinner. A stop More

Whenever I'm anywhere near New Orleans, you know I'll be having a meal or 6 at Mandina's. I grew up a few blocks from here and it's just as good today as it was in the 60's. The seafood gumbo is some of the best in the city and the red More

Called to order for pickup. The person who answered the phone was very rude and said "we close at 8" and hung up. Their Google page and their website both say that they are open until 9:30. If this is the horrible attitude that they have on the phone, I could only imagine how they are in person.

My GRILLED CATFISH meal (came with lightly seasoned Potatoes and Green Beans and the GUMBO were delicious. Nothing too heavy in either direction. Both TASTED LIKE HOME COOKING which is great (but because of that it felt like the prices were higher than needed). Around me other dishes appeared with the same simple visuals and smells of being in a family kitchen. Even moments after it opened during my weekend visit, it seemed almost EVERY TABLE in the main dining area WAS TAKEN. Unfortunately, I got STUCK WITH THE SERIOUS SERVER. Was it because I was dining alone? Half the other servers appeared unsmiling as well and more business-like. Ah well, at least everything was taken care of timely.

Our first lunch in New Orleans. We would have never found this place on our own...our friends took us here after picking us up at the airport.
We had three appetizers: shrimp remoulade, crab fingers in wine sauce, and fried softshell crabs. I had a shrimp Po Boy with gumbo. Bread pudding for dessert. Food was cooked perfectly and tasted great.

It was our first stop after a 8 hour car ride. I was very skeptical even though the reviews are amazing. We started our meal with the crab fingers in wine sauce. I highly recommend trying this dish. Absolutely delicious, and I hate seafood. I had the stuffed chicken breast with green beans and cannied yams. The green beans had so much flavor, the yams where perfectly sweet, the stuffed chicken tasted like Thanksgivings. I was satisfied. My husband had fired shrimp. It was so refreshing having FRESH seafood.

The service is great. We got there a hour before closing and the staff was really accommodating. I highly recommend that you make this one of your stops.

Pretty good, big portions! I ordered a club and it was huge and a side of French fries which came out a heaping basket, and the onion rings my bf and his mom ordered was stacked pretty good, very huge portions for your money.

Good service. Waitress was very friendly and helpful. Everything tasted good. Only disappointment was that everything was fried. However, that is on me for the choices I made. My wife had the creole eggplant special that was very good but super rich. Was difficult to even finish half. Still. We enjoyed the place and would recommend for a good locals restaurant. Their Old Fashioned are real good.

The calamari was excellent.

The calamari was excellent.
However, as for the shrimp gumbo, herein lies the disappointment as this was the first meal in New Orleans and therefore had high expectations. The rice was ok. The tomato gumbo tasted out of a can and the shrimp was small and lackluster. The peas were, well, just peas. Again, as if straight out of a can.
Happy to report, French Quarters dining made up for it.

Mandina's Restaurant is one of my all-time favorite places to dine. The food is always excellent and the service is impeccable. I was in the food and beverage business for over 41 years before I retired. I can tell you all of the best restaurants as well as the worst restaurants in the New Orleans metropolitan area. Mandina's restaurant offers a five-star informal dining experience, to be enjoyed by all. Bon appetit.

I while heartedly recommend this place!
Our first night in New Orleans we stopped in here bc it was one block up from the B&B we were staying in. Just a quick dinner after traveling all day but WOW probably some of the best food we ate the whole week we were in NOLA. So good that, we went back for lunch a few days later. Our server was awesome, he asked us where we're from, talked sports and recommended some stuff. He even explained the menu to me, bc we're from Ohio (lol).
I had the catfish po boy and my husband had a seafood platter thing.....the second time we got a shrimp po boy and split it bc their portions are southern hospitality huge....like our server said "we feed you round here!"
P.S. The beers good too!
Keep up the good work guys, delicious.

Classic restaurant. The portions are huge and mostly excellent. The spaghetti and meatballs very ordinary wouldn't order again. The chicken parm is off the charts good. The service is always good. Very crowded at lunchtime. Not alot of waiting room

In town for the weekend and decided to give this a try. They did not disappoint us! Not only is the food amazing, we feed a family of 6 for a very reasonable price. The catfish is probably the best I've ever had. Next time we come back we will eat here again!

ABSOLUTE BEST fried chicken on the planet!! (Their chicken parmesan is out of this world too.) Friendly, smiling waitstaff and dining room is always clean and tidy. One of my top favorite restaurants in all of NOLA and given the awesome array of food here, that's saying alot!
