In Asheville? Your visit isn't complete without a stop at Malaprop's. They were ordering books for customers 20 years before Amazon existed. Fantastic cafe and excellent coffee. You'll lose half a day perusing the bookshelves.
This store/cafe has a wonderful atmosphere. The staff is friendly, and the store is inviting and eclectic. Would love to go back.
Great bookstore. Staff is super helpful and the selection is very good. I pop in every time I visit Asheville.
Locally owned bookstore and a staple of downtown. Malaprops has many sections of books as well as great spotlights on local and regional writers. There is a cafe in the store as well that serves coffee and tea as well as other drinks. There are usually book readings and author signings here as well. The staff is always friendly, kind, and helpful. Support local and get your books here!
Great bookstore! Lots of things to look at other than books, too. Nice cafe. Makes the store smell wonderful.
Best shopping experience of my holiday season. Hyper helpful staff ready to make your season bright. And they even gift wrapped for free.
Loved the event going on with authors and readers. Love the feel of the store. Cant beat that good book smell
Best book store around. Lots of unusual and hard to find books. The little cafe inside is an added bonus to this wonderful store.
A little over priced but good selection and knowledgeable staff
Excellent spot in Asheville with some pretty unique book genres and a lovely little coffee area. They also support local authors and mark books that are recommended by staff. I could have easily spent half a day in here. Great vibe.
A cozy and friendly bookshop with very rich holdings of award-winning fiction and works in translation.
Great bookstore with large selection. Also have Asheville greeting cards and souvenirs.
Great rainy day stop over. Eclectic book selection and a cafe. Friendly staff.
I came for a book signing. I was in the rear of a very long line. Once it started moving, it was very fast.
I will not support a bookstore that supports anti semitism in the US.
This bookstore's layout is inviting and everything is nicely organised. Besides books, it has a lot of cute and interesting stuff. The staff is helpful and professional. A great little place to spend a relaxing morning or afternoon.
I always love coming here when I'm in town. The books are great the people are nice and the atmosphere is cozy. It's a Charming place!
Great set up and had every book I was looking for in stock
Great selection and service from staff. There's even a little coffee shop inside.
You will want to spend more money than you have! Such a great selection and displays a lot of interesting material. Well organized yet organic feeling.
This is the best bookstore I've ever been to. It is enormous and has a variety of different books-contemporary to classics. Plus, there is a stylish bar/coffee area as well!
Love this bookstore. Always have the unusual and it's neat and well displayed.
Very easy process. I called in my book order and paid by phone. Since they have limited hours during the week, they hold the book for you until you have time to pick it up. When you're ready to pick up your purchase, you just call them and tell them where you're parked and they bring it to your car!
The employees are super friendly and helpful with their recommendations and knowledge of the store
Lovely place to stop by for books and a cup of coffee.
I've picked up a couple journals from this store now & love them! They have a nice little coffee shop inside & the staff has always been super friendly & helpful!
Open to those by appointment. Yet other bookstores in downtown Asheville were open, as long as you are wearing a mask.
Great local bookstore. Many national and local authors speak and do book signings here. Staff is very knowledgeable.
We visited on July 4, visiting with some family.
We have always enjoyed the eclectic feel of this bookstore.
We try to support local businesses, whenever we can.
We ordered a decaf latte at the counter, and were served such a bitter drink, that we could not drink it. I asked the "barista" , if he could add some foamed milk to make it drinkable. I couldn't"t believe, when he told me that he would have to charge me for it. After much arguing, he finally added some cold milk, which did not help, and we tossed the coffee. He created a very confrontational situation, that he could have avoided, had he just apologized, and made it right. The young man (a somewhat pale tween) still has to learn a lot about customer service.
Ideal selection for its size - a well-chosen mix of local content, current NYT chart-toppers and high-quality mid-list writers. Genre fiction and non-fiction represent best quality selections, not just most popular. There's a nice selection of reader paraphernalia (book bags, blank journals and sketchbooks, cards, pens, toys).
Though we didn't stop, the cafe seems inviting and the coffee aroma was pleasant.
Great bookstore :) Really laid back and full of awesome books.
Landmark independent bookstore in downtown Asheville. Small, comfortable, friendly.
Awesome independent book store with a great coffee shop and a friendly vibe.
What a fabulous find! It's not just a book store, it's an experience. Any time I travel to Asheville, I head to Malaprops! Everyone I've recommended Malaprops to has loved it.
Locally owned with all the comforts of the big box and more. Shopping with a personal touch.
My son and I walked passed this store and he really wanted to go in and explore. To our great disappointment they would not allow people from out of state to enter; even though we would have complied with COVID guidelines. Apparently germs from out of state are more aggressive than in North Carolina. .
Excellent shop with a nice cafe. The best part about this store is the "Blind date with a book" section, where books are picked by the staff, wrapped in brown paper, with a synopsis, so much fun!
Nice bookstore pleasant atmosphere. Staff is knowlegable and helpful.
THIS is what book stores are supposed to be. Cozy, comfy, coffee, BOOKS! Friendly, helpful staff.
GO here! Spend money! Support your independently owned local businesses!
The most amazing bookstore ive been to, and the coffee was great too.
Great stop to browse get a coffee and read the news
Love this little bookstore. My best friend and I always make every effort to stop by whenever we are in Asheville. Book selection is small but of good quality and the coffee is great!
Lame - they didn t let us in because we aren t NC residents. Don t come here.
Warm and inviting layout. Sizable section for kids 8-12 and young adults. My daughter was in heaven there
So cute and eclectic. Some great original gifts and love the staff selections!
Easily one of the best book shops I've ever been to. Lots of great book club options and staff picks. Awesome blind date with a bookseller concept.
We loved this place. It has a great selection of books. They have a lot of local authors and some small gift items that are great to give to add a local flare to any gift. There is a coffee shop inside that has good tea and coffee and you can hang out there and read.
My wife enjoyed the clearance books. They were very cheap and had a decent selection of them to chose from.
This is definitely an Asheville staple. I great local store in a town that takes pride in its locally owned businesses. I would definitely recommend a visit, even if its just to browse around.
We love this bookstore and come in when we are in Asheville. Beware they are now open by appointment only for North Carolina residents only. I understand their caution but am super disappointed!
very chill place to browse and has a healthy selection of books
Good selection though they have mostly new stuff, if your looking for a older book call ahead to see if they stock it. The mystery book shelf is actually pretty good gives you a random book wrapped up with a vague description to give you a good read without judging the book by its cover.
North Carolina residents only? No other stores in the town are even doing this.
An amazing curated selection of books and book-adjacent novelties that are a joy to explore.
This bookstore has something for everyone. A favorite place for us to stop in Asheville
Booked a reservation for my son and myself yesterday and just wanted to say the experience was amazing. Y all are doing it right and we appreciate it so much! Going to the bookstore is one of our favorite activities and generally go every Sunday. Since COVID-19 we have dreamt of the day we would be able to come back safely. Thank you for making us feel safe and comfortable coming in.
Loved it ! Everything & more in the quality of food, atmosphere & service ! Delicious.....
, For the people watching stay for the books. Super friendly courteous and helpful staff.
