In Asheville? Your visit isn't complete without a stop at Malaprop's. They were ordering books for customers 20 years before Amazon existed. Fantastic cafe and excellent coffee. You'll lose half a day perusing the bookshelves.

Locally owned bookstore and a staple of downtown. Malaprops has many sections of books as well as great spotlights on local and regional writers. There is a cafe in the store as well that serves coffee and tea as well as other drinks. There are usually book readings and author signings here as well. The staff is always friendly, kind, and helpful. Support local and get your books here!

Excellent spot in Asheville with some pretty unique book genres and a lovely little coffee area. They also support local authors and mark books that are recommended by staff. I could have easily spent half a day in here. Great vibe.

This bookstore's layout is inviting and everything is nicely organised. Besides books, it has a lot of cute and interesting stuff. The staff is helpful and professional. A great little place to spend a relaxing morning or afternoon.

Very easy process. I called in my book order and paid by phone. Since they have limited hours during the week, they hold the book for you until you have time to pick it up. When you're ready to pick up your purchase, you just call them and tell them where you're parked and they bring it to your car!

We have always enjoyed the eclectic feel of this bookstore.
We try to support local businesses, whenever we can.
We ordered a decaf latte at the counter, and were served such a bitter drink, that we could not drink it. I asked the "barista" , if he could add some foamed milk to make it drinkable. I couldn't"t believe, when he told me that he would have to charge me for it. After much arguing, he finally added some cold milk, which did not help, and we tossed the coffee. He created a very confrontational situation, that he could have avoided, had he just apologized, and made it right. The young man (a somewhat pale tween) still has to learn a lot about customer service.

Ideal selection for its size - a well-chosen mix of local content, current NYT chart-toppers and high-quality mid-list writers. Genre fiction and non-fiction represent best quality selections, not just most popular. There's a nice selection of reader paraphernalia (book bags, blank journals and sketchbooks, cards, pens, toys).

Though we didn't stop, the cafe seems inviting and the coffee aroma was pleasant.

My son and I walked passed this store and he really wanted to go in and explore. To our great disappointment they would not allow people from out of state to enter; even though we would have complied with COVID guidelines. Apparently germs from out of state are more aggressive than in North Carolina. .

Excellent shop with a nice cafe. The best part about this store is the "Blind date with a book" section, where books are picked by the staff, wrapped in brown paper, with a synopsis, so much fun!

We loved this place. It has a great selection of books. They have a lot of local authors and some small gift items that are great to give to add a local flare to any gift. There is a coffee shop inside that has good tea and coffee and you can hang out there and read.

My wife enjoyed the clearance books. They were very cheap and had a decent selection of them to chose from.

This is definitely an Asheville staple. I great local store in a town that takes pride in its locally owned businesses. I would definitely recommend a visit, even if its just to browse around.

We love this bookstore and come in when we are in Asheville. Beware they are now open by appointment only for North Carolina residents only. I understand their caution but am super disappointed!

Good selection though they have mostly new stuff, if your looking for a older book call ahead to see if they stock it. The mystery book shelf is actually pretty good gives you a random book wrapped up with a vague description to give you a good read without judging the book by its cover.

Booked a reservation for my son and myself yesterday and just wanted to say the experience was amazing. Y all are doing it right and we appreciate it so much! Going to the bookstore is one of our favorite activities and generally go every Sunday. Since COVID-19 we have dreamt of the day we would be able to come back safely. Thank you for making us feel safe and comfortable coming in.
