Full service book store with coffee bar inside. This store has everything a book lover could want.
Love this little bookstore, cozy good selection of books
Good coffee, good selection of books at a faur price, planty of places to walk around. Highly recommend.
Good selection of books. The employees are a bit snooty and pretentious when you ask a question, but overall not a bad experience.
An extremely cool bookstore! Asheville has a gem in this great book facility. I hope they will soon receive my new book, BUILDING A BETTER RUNNER for sale. Shop local!
Independent and great!!! Must go when in Asheville. There's a Cafe too.
Met author Rasha here. Great atmosphere. Friendly staff!
Awesome atmosphere, great selection, even signed copies of books.
I avoided the actual bookstore as I was moving my things across country and trying to not add anything else; however, I did eat at the cafe and must say that it had a great cappuccino and croissant. I was there with family, who did spend time in the bookstore area and absolutely loved the selection. The feel of the place is also very comfortable. Definitely a place I would find myself frequenting if I lived in the area.
I'm partial to bookstores that have access to snacks and drinks while I read, so I love this place! they have a wide selection, good staff recommendations, and a really cool bookshelf that has books packaged and wrapped so you can't see their title, only a few words to describe the type of book. it's good for getting out of a reading rut and trying something new!
So sad that malaprops supports Anti-Semitism!! Never shopping there again! Shame on you!!!!
We occasionally buy books for our grandchildren here. We can always count on the good advice given by a knowledgeable staff member.
Very Asheville bookstore that has a cafe with great coffee, and lots of great books in many genres. Atmosphere is great as well, and it's located next to several other great attractions. If visiting, it is reccommemded to park in the Rankin Ave parking deck as it is the closest public parking that isn't a metered space.
This is one of my favorite book stores ever. Fantastic people who love books work there.
Super cool place. Loved the blind date with a book idea.
A collection of books and magazines can be found at this alternative book store that are just not found at the big box book stores. Trust me!
Independent bookstore, well-chosen books by diverse staff who love books, good coffee - my favorite place downtown for years.
Independant bookstore with a great selection and Cafe.
One of my favorite places to stop in while visiting Asheville. So much to discover, and they seem very in tune with their community, offering book clubs, signings, events etc.
Lovely set up and staff, although the prices were a bit high.
Iced coffee was great and had fun browsing. The kids books need to be restocked, a little low when we were there.
Great locally owned bookstore. Friendly, knowledgeable staff, many activities for avid readers. Don't miss it if you love books. And the coffee shop is an added bonus!
Great bookstore with so much variety and a cozy feel. Have a coffee shop & free wifi. Coffee shop a little small but that is ok...it is a book store after all.
A lovable bookstore with a great atmosphere for reading
Not bad, nothing else to really complain about it. :)
Went for a book signing event. Well organized and pleasant staff.
Great bookstore/coffee shop/ gifts. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. A must-see when in the area!
Not the place to go if you're looking for a romance paperback.
A real old fashioned book store. Friendly staff. Staff picks to help you choose.
Long time part of Asheville, good for a stroll, a bit pricey
It is always a pleasure to visit the store. The staff is friendly and helpful as it should always be.
Excellent vegetarian options that spark the tongue with all kinds of flavors.
Really nice little book store! Staff is nice and helpful. Really good selection of books in all genres. They even have a cool blind date with a book section! Cafe is really nice too, I recommend the chai tea latte!
I love hanging out in this bookstore and exploring all their sections. Albeit it smaller, it has a wide variety of different genres and I'm really excited to try a "blind date with a book," where a book is merely described on the outside wrapping paper and you purchase, then unwrap and read.
They are only allowing residents of North Carolina to enter the store... Lost some sales.
It was a cozy small bookstore in the city. A nice little find. I didnt deal with the staff but the selection was good.
Fun and unique place to have a drink or a cup of tea and shop for fun and unique books! Friend said Coffee was not great.
This bookstore is everything you wish bookstores still were. Malaprops has a fantastic selection (kids too), staff who love books, visiting authors, book signings, coffee and it's right in the heart of Asheville downtown. Always a good New and Notable selection, interesting staff pics, and their "blind date with a book" thing is fun- staff selections are covered in brown paper with some descriptive words on the outside. You buy the book without knowing what book it is you're buying. A model for what a modern bookstore can still be.
My wife and I have been visiting Malaprop's for years. Every time we pass through Asheville, it is a mandatory stop. We have been to indie bookstores all over the country, and this is one of our favorites.
Simply put: solid, good-sized collection of books; super friendly, engaged staff who all seem to love what they do; and an awesome location right in the heartbeat of Asheville.
Thanks for doing what you do, Malaprop's!
Such a quirky little bok store with a homey, independent vibe. Love the collection of books as well as tickets and fun collectables. Always a favorite stop while in Asheville.
Book cost the same as barns and nobles but they have a wide selection of fun gifts and stationary. I always want to spend an hour in there at least. They always have authors coming though. Also during this hoilday they where offering free gift wrap and I think that is the cutest.
A locally owned book store. It was a great place in the past. Indie authors are no longer welcomed on the shelves which brings this place to the same level of every other book store. Through the years the people working in the coffee shop have been unfriendly and sometimes rude. This seems to be a requirement for working in the coffee shop. I use to love it, now, not so much.
One of the best bookstores you can visit. Good selection of best sellers, unknown treasures and regional writers. Staff is very helpful and the atmosphere is very laid back and cozy. Buy something to read and then grab a coffee from the coffee bar and relax.
Really nice to see a thriving bookstore that isn't big box. Cozy yet has it all
I love Malaprop's. One of the best indie bookstores around, right in the heart of downtown Asheville.
Charming store with great contributions from the staff.
Great selection of books, good coffee, helpful and friendly staff
Super cute local bookstore in downtown Asheville. The best part, of course, the the strong smell of printed paper that hits you when you walk in. There is nothing better than the aroma of the written word.
Great local bookstore with a ton of lit events, including readings, signings, and lectures.
Check out the staff recommendations shelf.
Great, quaint place. It's what you want in a little book store.
The best bookstore I have ever been inside. The staff are nice and knowlegable. The selection is also excellent. They have numerous featured sections which make the store feel unique. Highly recommend.

One of my favorite shops in Asheville! Nothing beats the feeling of a local bookstore, except the feeling of a local bookstore with a cafe in it.
Friendly staff, a decent selection, and a great downtown location - I love going to Malaprops when I have a little extra time.
Lovely indie bookshop with a great selection of notebooks!
Great book store... Stop in browse a while find nice gifts. Thetes a counter offeteing coffees or teas cakes n cookies. You can plug in your computers to Wifi too.
It's the Shop around the Corner from You've Got Mail. This landmark bookstore and cafe continues to thrive in the heart of downtown Asheville despite the presence of discount stores at the mall and online. It's a destination, a must visit store.
Ordered a signed copy of Wicked Bites. The book was supposed to be addressed to me but wasn t. The top of the book spine is squished and has a folded line across the top of the cover. :(
Small bookstore in downtown Asheville. Has a cafe for coffee drinks and light snacks. Has a good number of author events.
The staff was friendly and they have an awesome selection of books and other fun nicknacks. Will happily return whenever in the area.
I heard about this bookstore from a friend when I was living in California. When I made it to Asheville a few months later, this was the first place I went. I returned every afternoon for the next 5 days of my trip. Could not get enough of their atmosphere and beverages. My only regret is not getting to try them all. The customer service is excellent as well as their wit in naming their products.
A business that ostensibly strives to educate and increase the wisdom of its clientele, , has totally failed by promoting the upcoming event with Jeff Halper
His book is a shameful lie full of misinformation, racial bias and antisemitism.
By hosting this author you are helping to spread hatred.
Cozy local bookstore with a wide selection and inside cafe. I especially liked the little trinkets they had for sale (bookmarks, pins, etc). Employees were very nice and more than happy to help me find what I was looking for.
How fortunate Asheville is to have a gem of an independent bookstore such as this one. Books are only the beginning of a pleasant and productive visit to this enchanting place. Kind, knowledgeable, and helpful people are the best part of dropping in here. Socially conscious, responsive, and responsible, the good people working here certainly know all about the literature they recommend but more importantly, they truly care about everyone who walks in the door. Their care shows in the way books and materials are artfully arranged along with messages from and to their community. Writers and readers will love wandering the aisles in this store. After discovering books you wouldn't typically see on Amazon or in Barnes and Noble, visitors can get a tasty treat and walk next door to enjoy the Open Market, the Earth Guild, or Woolworth Walk.
We used to come here every time we visited Asheville. Never again. Apparently if you live right across the border in SC you can t enter their store. It clearly states on the door that you can only come in if you are a NC resident. I asked why and she said this is why . I was confused and I said because Im from SC and want to support a local bookstore by coming in and buying books? She answered yes . So because I m from SC ... isn t that discrimination? My wife and I are big readers and we go to every bookstore we find. And we always buy a book. My wife won t even buy books from Amazon. Good luck surviving without support from your neighbors.
