Beautiful venue with stunning music. A must see in Chicago.
West side story was fabulous. The ushers were very efficient.
Great performances and great old building from bygone era.
Had a great time at the opera, very clean. Reasonably priced parking is very close about a 5 minute walk.
Love working here and attending events. I recommend attending Lyric Opera of Chicago Events!
I took 20 high school orchestra students to see Faust. For all of them this was their first opera. The students not only enjoyed the production but had a great time chatting with some of the (mostly older) season ticket holders who welcomed them to their first Opera. This gave all of my students a positive experience that they will remember.
For me, ordering tickets with the Lyric was very easy and accessible for our groups. LeiLynn was so helpful and kind to us during our visit. Thanks Lyric Opera of Chicago!
Wonderful building, lovely performance of La Traviata. The costuming was amazing!
The New Year's Eve event The Roaring Twenties my son is a DJ and he entertain music for all the New Year partyers it was very glamorous and had a flavor from the past
As sad as I am to give this review, as the performers were very talented, I cannot say that I enjoyed my experience. Now, maybe it could've been better if I was an individual visiting, but I was part of a high school field trip. From my experience, I can say that this is not a good place for students to go.
First, let me say that the people here in general aren't as nice. We come from around Metro Detroit, so you'd think we would have worse service than in Chicago, but I guess not. The staff had a distinct attitude, and seemed to treat us poorly because we were minors.
The first distinct incident was when a song finished and a 9th grader from our group got up to use the bathroom. Once he entered the hall, a staff member said to him, "what the hell are you doing out here?" and sent him back. I thought this was supposed to be a formal place, and swearing at a 14 year old isn't too formal. The second incident was when my friend began to cough and went out to get some water. Instead of giving him a nice "what the hell are you doing," like the previous student, they treated him worse. They denied him from entering back into the theatre, and held him out for what could've been a half hour of the show. He was eventually let back in once a a staff member with an ounce of kindness found him, but he missed out on a lot of the show.
So, overall that trip had left us with a sour taste in our mouths. The staff was downright aggressive, our classmates were treated terribly, and the drinks were overpriced. Waste of money.
Went to see La Boheme and the performance and production were truly world class. The building itself is incredible inside too!
The place is beautiful, but we are very crowded and we do not see the scene: the chairs are aligned. Pity
Sadly, last night's experience at Mme Butterfly was very disappointing. Our seats were in RR - and the sound was very muffled, to say the least. Further, we were told the performance would end at 10:15, as we had to catch the 10:35 train back home. By 10:20 the performance was still running, so - missing the important last 5 minutes - we needed to leave.
Top flight productions--musically, visually, theatrically.
I enjoyed Dead Man Walking and had a nice dinner on the 3rd floor!
Still one of the most beautiful theatres. We saw Barber of Seville. Wonderful and Hilarious production.
Such a beautiful place and the opera "Carmen" was so well done that it brought tears.
I have been regularly attending Lyric Opera of Chicago since 1966, and every time I am there is a special occasion for me.
I no longer live in Chicagoland, but fly in for performances. And each time i do, i am transported back to 1966, when i saw my very first opera there at the age of 7. I was hooked for life.
The opera house is a local as well as national landmark, the stage has had many great artists walk upon it, and the theatre itself is a beautiful example of Art Deco style.
It should be on everyone's list when they visit Chicago!
Great auditorium and acoustics, loved the Sound of Music and the internal architecture of the building.
Nice original decor, EXCELLENT sound characteristics
We've seen a couple of shows here and really enjoyed them
Beautiful venue right by the river. I attended the Transformers movie premiere, and the orchestra as well as all 3 balconies were packed. The staff is very easy going and helpful!
Going here is an experience. Don't be afraid of opera because you think it's boring or you won't be able to understand it. There are English subtitles easily seen above the stage. The theatre alone is worth going because it is absolutely stunning. Go to at least one show. It'll be good for you!
Lyric Opera House is one of the premier Opera houses in the country for a reason. From the world class musical leadership of Sir Andrew Davis to the creative genius of Renee Fleming, the phenomenal set designs, flawless costumes and the greatest voices and musicians who perform each and every show.... season after season. Then, add to it the historical and architecturally significant building, the service-focused staff who ensure your every need is attended to each time you visit, and the amazing patrons who make pre and post performance people watching almost as much fun as the show itself! Finally, I've been a subscriber for years and have had seats in many locations throughout the theatre. The seats are all quite comfortable and fairly roomy, and there is not really a bad view in the house. This is certainly worth experiencing!
One of Chicago's finest place to visit, great date night
I came here for my first opera experience and I'm a fan! The facility is so beautiful, and the seats are perfect. You can't buy a bad seat at this place.
Incredible performance of Les Troyens at the Lyric. Overall, the staff were incredibly friendly and the venue awesome, making my first trip to the opera entirely worthwhile.
I enjoyed the play very much.
They were playing West Side Story.
The question to the opera house stuff ... Why is it so cold on the balcony? Few days ago we saw Don Giovanni and were literally freezing during the first act, then had to grab our winter coats from a check room. The impression of the opera was ruined!(
Attended the Three Queens performance with my wife. Very enjoyable night and liked the free instant photo of us in the lobby. The sound and theatre was fantastic. We would return again for another performance.
Seen Jesus Christ Superstar tonight and it was a wonderfully fantastic experience at the Lyric Opera House! All the employees are top notch!
Great productions, professional theater and opera. Beautiful place.
I heard an extraordinary presentation of Porgy and Bess on WQXR. It was sung with such passion that I was almost brought to tears. :I just loved the performance.
Beautiful building, truly a gem of the city. The staff is very courteous and the quality of productions is world class. I wouldn't mind if the seats were a bit more comfortable.
We went to watch West Side Story.
The Lyric is Nostalgic and Beautiful. A must see location if you're ever visiting Chicago
The history and magic of the Lyric is undeniable, even if the theatre itself is a bit weary. Watched a brilliant performance of Norma with Sondra Radvanovsky in the lead. I could not think of Callas performing here in 1954. Wonderful experience, albeit pricey.
I subscribe, so of course this review will be positive. In fact I come down from Milwaukee eight times a year to enjoy the productions. The quality of the singing, the productions, the staging, and the stage direction is generally excellent. Not always, but almost always.
I've sat in the balcony and I have sat on the main floor and there's no comparison. If you can afford it, I strongly urge the purchase have a main floor ticket.
Lyric Opera of Chicago is one of the best opera companies in the United States. I feel fortunate to live so close.
I loved the overall experience. They close the doors and don't allow anyone in or out during the show but do give a midshow intermission so that you may use the restroom or buy drinks. When the show is about to start or intermission is almost over there is a warning sound and the lights on the wall start to flash letting you know to return to your seats. The facilities were clean and they have plenty of workers available for assistance. We took in a small group of elders and they have main level facilities reserved for them and they tag the walkers and all assistive devices and take them directly to their seats when the show is over.
Beautiful theater, wonderful acoustics, excellent show but they could hire another bartender or five. The line was so long and so slow that many customers went back to their seats afraid to miss the show after intermission.
Gorgeous and excellent as everything I've seen there (barring "Doctor Atomic" what a flop). Will be back again.
Seats maybe could use an update. Just a bit worn.
JC Superstar was incredible. Still singing songs in my head!
Every performance is Top-Notch. Can't wait to see Cinderella.
It is hard to say anything bad about this institution, except too many people like it and it is expensive
Nice, historic venue with solid views to the stage from the upper balcony. I was just there for an Alabama Shakes show and was impressed by the layout of tbe place and how personal lt feels
Not the best place for a big company party. Absolutely gorgeous, though!
Such a beautiful decor, and the shows they have here are wonderful. I wish I could come more often but my wallet doesn't permit it.
Beautiful voices, wonderful Opera House (my favorite) and an opera we had never seen before. All made for a fun evening.
Hellodear ,
Please did you receive the previous message i sent to you ?
Best regards,
Evam Mark Esq
World class opera. $20 student ticket days for students, so I can afford to see every show. Clever stage directions and fantastic prop designs keep old classics as impactful and absorbing as when they were first written.
Great venue. Comfortable seats. Way overpriced refreshments. The sound system needs some work. It was intrusive to the show.
I love the lyric Opera, it's a wonderful place for a show and a beautiful venue. You can't beat the quality of show at the lyric either. I saw Carmen and was blown away by the stunning quality. It's one of those inherent Chicago places where you have to go at least once or you haven't experienced the culture of the Second City
Very nice atmosphere was very comfortable very clean everybody was very friendly
Always enjoy a night at the Opera...Particularly with Dinner
Such an amazing show and venue. The stunt for the climax was amazing! A huge 25 foot banquet table tipped up into the air, the actor slid down the table. Then the actor and table were swallowed into the floor, like they were never there!
Gorgeous theater and play The Light of Pizza was great
Very good opera house but not as good as the world's major theatres, like Covent Garden or Bayerische Staatsoper.
