As a first timer, trying to get here on a bus resulted in our being late. Therefore,we were escorted to the nose-bleed section in the dark to sit until intermission. The steps were so steep and the lighting so dim,we almost fell. However, once we were able to take our reserved seats, things improved a lot. The King & I never looked and sounded better. After signing up for their e-mails,prepare to be inundated with them, and surveys. I hope there's a better way for the average Joe to experience Lyric Opera, because it can be wonderful.

Do you miss dressing up to go to the theater? If so, go here. People actually still look like they're going to see a show, and not a football game. The acoustics in the theater are incredible and the performance quality is truly world-class.

Saw my first opera there last night! (Thank you, Lyric, for offering a discount to arts educators!!) Faust was excellent - incredible design in all aspects, the performers were superior - especially considering the stamina it takes for a 3.5 hour opera!
They have subtitles above the stage to translate, but I understand some French and was able to follow along for the most party without (definitely appreciated them all the same)

Don't act like you're too cool for the opera. I wouldn't strike myself as a fancy guy, I started going to the opera, because my wife made me. Now I'm glad she did! Those singers are impressive!!! They don't even use microphones and you can hear them clear as day from the upper deck! The opera is just like a movie. There are good ones and not so good ones. Do yourself a favor and go to the opera. Just don't go for the first time if it's a 5 hour long opera!

The opera was great. They appear to have had some kind of problem with a leak in the roof causing some ceiling damage, and a number of seats were roped off.

Worse, there was a light left on behind us that was annoying. We have been there several times, though, and this is atypical. I expect it will be off for the next performance.

It's tragic when an organization insists on accelerating the death of the artistic and theatrical medium that it makes its very purpose, but the relentless pushing of yellowface on their public-facing CTA ads demonstrates that the Lyric Opera is devoted to alienating nonwhite audiences. Please join me in wishing the Lyric all the best in its twilight years! RIP

I went to an opera with my family over the winter season and as soon as you walk in you feel the grandness of the hallway and of what you are about to see. I was just stunning and took my breathe away. I for sure recommend coming here and seeing an opera. But if you are not into them they do have one or two musicals per season that are equally amazing!

I've attended numerous performances at this venue. It has touch of luxury and total class in service and performances. Special effects are mesmerizing.Comfort depends on where you're seated. Leg room in the upper balconies is kind of cramped, but there's plenty on the main floor.

One of the finest, beautiful opera houses in the world--no exaggeration. The productions rarely disappoint, the casts are world class, and the company endeavors to champion this art form while leading it into the 21st century.

Love the Lyric Opera House, so fortunate to have in Chicago. The building is absolutely stunning. Quality productions every season. Eurydice was an amazing opener. Joffrey Ballet is a very nice addition to Lyric Opera. Watching this beautiful production was surreal. A real power trio; beautifully choreographed dance moves, spectacular singing and an exquisite orchestra. Loved it so much.

West side story, performance was quite faithful to the Broadway one. A strong voiced young cast, with all the ballet styling

Great fun with the Sharks and the Jets

One anachronism: a chrome plated semi-auto pistol was used, rather than a period correct blued revolver

Went on a Back Stage Tour of the Lyric Opera and it was very interesting! The tour guide was great and shared history of the Lyric and the building as we viewed the various rooms, including costumes, dressing and makeup rooms, props, orchestra pit and behind stage. I definitely recommend this tour. Also received a flyer with a discount code for tickets!

My date and I saw Carousel on Friday, April 17th, and were disappointed with the sound system.
We sat on the main floor row O right side on the aisle and could not understand any of the SPEAKING
voices from the stage. Is it your improper placement of speakers or lack thereof?
